Its easy.
Just add a new apn (like HSDPA) and change to it. Search for other apns in the international note forum. It works for me.
Haven't tested if it loses LTE but you can always switch back to the default when not needing tether.

All att phone come with tethering manager that checks your account before let you tether. International phones don't have this limitation.
Without rooting or paying for the tethering plan, you may be limited to apps like Koush's Clockwork Tether.

How old is that 'used'. Tethering manager is first introduced in Froyo about a year ago. The built in Android tethering feature will always call tethering manager first to check your account before let you user it. It didn't matter which
Apn you use. The only way to get around it is root and remove tethering manager.

Put step by step on how to do it.
I suspect it is also reporting your tethering to att if tether manager is active...only time will tell..you will get a warning first...then they will change your plan

ST runs on the t-mobile network. You need to flash a compatible modem.

Straight talk runs on either. Depends on your area. You're most likely at&t seeing as 90% of straight talk is.
Straight Talk leases their services. The reason it's slow, it's NOT hspa. It's 3G and that's most likely the best you'll get.

OP, are you being throttled? Seems ST possibly throttles on 100MB a day and 2GB a month. That would leave you with H+ and horrible speeds. Contact ST and ask them to reset your network.
They used to throttle me ALL THE TIME! Good price but **** service. Went back to AT&T so I can use MY data how I pay to use it, not how they want me to.

No I'm not and like said I'm using the same sim I had on my my last ph which was an inspire and never had any problems with speeds only now that I'm on the note I also can't send pics mms actually the only rom I was able to send mms was liqsmooth but the apn settings were a tiny diff most only allow int,mms or int+mms on liq it had where u could input your like default supl mms or whatever

At any rate I read somewhere else online that it can also depends on the radio you have which I don't know much about I do know about rooting and flashing custom roms what I have never done tho is changed out radios or kernels on on that site somebody said something about UCl F 2 I have looked online and have not been able to find a downloadable 1

Flashing a modem is easier than flashing a rom. Get the modem.bin on your sd card, boot into recovery, flash the modem.bin using CWM/TWRP (no wiping needed), reboot, check for correct APN settings (some roms don't include APN settings).

If you have really slow speeds then you are either being throttled or you are not filling in the APN correctly. Does not sound like a modem issue. What speed does your notification bar show you connected as? How about settings > about phone > status >Mobile Network Type: ?

How about a screenshot of the status page in settings? APN looks good. Speed test sure looks like you are throttled. For chit and giggles try removing the proxy and port from the APN and see what you get. Not the MMS proxy and port.

the features i need is

has anyone ever done this and can they confirm it will work like a normal plan should?
I use straight talk from wal-mart on my note. Before that I had a iPhone on ATT prepaid. I'm not sure if they have 4g on pre paid...

I also have straight talk and I'm running jellybean on it and everything's pretty chill so far.. but just like any other carrier, be weary of speed caps cause man, ain't nothing really "unlimited" on any service lol smh..

You can use any GSM carrier with a sim card.
That Pay-as-you-go data is pretty expensive, isn't it?
Anyway, if it's at&t you don't need to unlock the phone.
You don't need to root the phone.
But you will need to flash a ROM so you can change the APN settings (the "pta" APN is usually the only setting the stock ROM let's you use). But before you flash the ROM see if you can add the APN for that data plan in the ROM you have now.

I have an at&t Samsung galaxy note. I have an actual plan && i think its way too expensive. Did you try the prepaid service through at&t? If so, did it work?
I have my note 2 rooted and currently on the net10 service. My phone got turned off from Verizon. I have all of my features data,MMS,phone. Only when I am on 4.2.2 roms and below. As soon as I hop to 4.3 things start going wrong. Like no texting. I'm just wondering if anyone can relate to this and give me a idea of what I should do. I had to have tried every APN out there, so o turn to my peers for advice :3

When I was messing around with a prepaid SIM I know I also had troubles with 4.3. Try getting the build.prop from a TMobile or ATT Note 2 AOSP ROM and using that over top of what you currently have.

I use my i605 on a GSM network as well. I had issues with 4.3 working properly so what i did was this..
I know your problems might be different but maybe this might help and i s a simple build prop edit

Installing an ATT rom worked for me as well.. not sure GPS works though. Didn't try

Doesn't work. Someone is just rehashing what worked on older galaxy phones. I think it worked for S4 and they just assume it will work for Note 3.
This isn't the first site to post this. I believe it requires being on 4.1 if I remember correctly. Check the domestic unlock thread, I believe someone posted the same thing there. @Epix4G, you even commented the post in the domestic unlock thread

Did u set apns data will not work until u set apns also pls share how u unlocked it if I could unlock I can make the rest work also u should get hspa+ not just 3g

Hey,
The unlocking was done by one of the mobile repair shop in my home town through an unlock code. As per apn settings I was unable to make any changes to the apn at all.

Apns are always changeable root the phone edit apns-conf.xml make mnc in apns matches for the gsm carrier u useing delete telephony.db and reboot but u shouldn't have to do that after sim unlock is done and usa gsm block removed u should be able to set phone to gsm in mobile networks settings and edit access point names and get signal talk txt and data with no problems what gsm carrier are u useing. Did u try dialing ##3282# select edit enter spc go down to more then go to lte apn setting

There is nothing when i go to the apns. When i click the settings i get an option of restore default settings only nothing else.

If u edit the apns-conf.xml using mnc that matches sim card and go to that menu restore default u should be able to see the apn u edited
