Woot and your x 10 is rooted
Use at your own risk
can anyone confirm thnis.. this looks damn esy
yup, it works ! ^^ , tks anyway!
i already rooted my x10A to the 23 rom, which version does this root ur X10 to? and btw anyone tested this on the X10A?
let me know!
thanks
Will it work for x10a???
Could this be the holy-grail (from a user standpoint at least) of rooting? I'd love to hear comments on it's success (I'm already running 026 rooted, otherwise I'd try it).
As much as I appreciate all the work the X10 root devs have put into getting root on this phone and providing a solution for we lowly masse: I'd love a single-step solution. Seeing solutions for other phones like the one-touch root for the Galaxy S and jailbreakme.com do make me a bit jealous.
I am on rooted 026 too, otherwise will have a try.
Anyway, if it is true, that would be great for it is easier to do. Could any dev check and see if this way has any inspiration to your work.

From a quick glance at it I'd say it's the X10 mini exploit packaged and automated into an apk. Since the exploit appears to be a generic userland exploit it would explain how it works on so many devices.
Is there a way to unroot?

The apk has a unroot button too so that you can reverse the rooting process before you return your device to se for whatever reasons
i was so excited that i reflashed and rerooted with this.
works a charm. fantastic!!!
the superuser is not working. whats the fix?
mine works perfectly with superuser privilege
i used another one from the other thread "X10Root" and it works perfectly. rooted after clean update via seus. now on R2BA026. it includes superuser.apk. i think this one doesnt.
tested, and proved to work perfectly. really convenient.
There is one big problem with this root method, I can't get ADB to work. Operations are not permitted :/
Right heres a really stupid question--Will this work with the Apps Installer app or no I need the SDK from Android.Im totally new to Android and just picked up an X10i.This root seems to be the easiest so far--Stuck on Vodafone Ireland @ Rf014 (I think) so I need to root and upgrade to a later version.
I'm scared to trying this should i give a shot?
works fantastically on my 26
its the apk built from xperia mini root method
it works well with xperia too

Let's root this!
root sony s1 tab.
yea root this tab i really want root
I think we can start with automated ones like GingerBreak or Superoneclick! I will test tonight...I have been looking over the web about what actually rooting process does to the device and what files it will be adding or deleting and permissions but no luck so far!

Root Attempts so far...
Hi All -
I've had this tablet for a week, and have tried every automated rooting method available, after getting ADB to work on Windows:
SuperOneClick - freezes on step 6 using either method
Gingerbreak Local App - Hangs
iconiaroot.apk - Hangs
Transformer (via BRK or LiveCD methods) - does not detect device
Samsung Galaxy root update.zip - Fails integrity check, does not even attempt to update
Problem is no other bootloader or APX mode driver (MTP USB DEVICE) I've tried has picked up this device - either fails or says device cannot start (code 10)
- No APX mode like Transformer
- Most of these automated methods are not meant for Honeycomb 3.2, or even Honeycomb at all
Might try tonight flashing the xoom pre-rooted ROM, but that is not a true root of the S1, plus I'd miss the remote app - only the best app for the device - every single component I have working including Aperion SoundBar and AppleTV.
I'll keep trying, as I want this to replace my rooted xoom
Any thoughts/ideas - send them my way for experimentation!
~CJS~
I wouldn't get too frisky trying to access the bootloader or loading roms on it. As far as I'm aware there's no SBF file to return it back to factory. Def dancing with the devil!
We need someone with a developers version of the Sony S Tablet.
So, I finally got my Transformer Prime TF201 after long waiting.
Sadly I am not able to root it due the latest update from Asus (.21).
Since my tablet is unlocked/virgin, I would like to offer my help finding a new way to gain root.
Since I am new, I am not allowed to post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526487, so if somebody could let them know, that would be great.
I have quite a lot of experience with Linux administration/configuration and software development.
So do you have a new exploit?
Do you have a working proof of concept?
If any of the answers are No to above, dont bother, everyone else is in the same boat.
Still waiting for the exploit. If you have found it, I think you can discuss or PM to Mod to post into the DEV forum.

I have a virgin Transformer Prime and wanted to offer my help in the hope it might be helpful. Reading many threads here about it I got the impression that most of the devs do not have anymore an unlocked device.
Clearly I do not want to unlock it right now. But am willing to test/try out experimental stuff.
I read here very recently, by a dev I recall, that since the unlocking tool is available and once unlocked you can get root, you have that option. They continued saying no dev wants to burn an exploit just to have it shut next update. You have to pay to play, meaning sacrifice support from Asus by unlocking.
I tried to find the post and supply a link to reference but failed on my mobile to find it.

This tool was only made to make it easier for everyone to root. I did not come up with the root methods, I just made the tool based on an existing root method. What people need to understand is that, from a dev perspective, with an unlock available it really doesn't make sense for a dev to work on root for this tablet for a few reasons...
1 reason is that Asus seems to be the most frequent updater of any OEM I've ever seen. There is no doubt that they read how we got root and intentionally fix it in the next update or two. This leads to problem number 2... using a root exploit that gets fixed and then becomes known and leads to other OEMs patching and making future devices harder to root.
I understand that people may think "oh well, burn a root exploit, we just want root!" Sorry, devs aren't going to think of it that way when you have an unlocking method. That's just that way it is. Honestly, don't ever expect root on .21 because it may never happen.

And a similar statement prior to that one.
-viperboy- said:
I've said this before but I'm not sure if you'll ever see a root for it because you can unlock. No one wants to work on a solution that is going to get blocked in the next update and burn through an exploit. Unfortunately, you have to pay to play. If you want root right now, you need to unlock the bootloader.

But aren't they android exploits, not Asus? Your comment doesn't make any sense to me. If an exploit is released, it will be for specific version(s) of android. Even if ASUS patches it, the exploit is still IN android. Nothing is 'burned' until Google patches it.
My comment is only based on the quotes provided by someone who I assume knows volumes more than I. That means I know little but try to help, by posting, when I feel I can help.

I suggest we set up a bounty for root. I would donate a bit to the one successful in rooting the latest update. Anybody else in???
Well, I can explain you why I think I NEED root access:
I have a Nokia N9 as mobile phone. It seems only to be able to provide Ad-hoc wifi tethering. Now, as I understand, Ad-hoc tethering got removed from Android 4, and the only way to get is back is by tools which use root access.
Without internet connectivity my Prime is worth only half
But since I only have it a few days, I do not want to void 24 months of warranty just because Google dectates it.
Please proof me wrong if there is another solution. I also tried Bluetooth DUN, but the phone seems only to provide OPP . Also USB networking seems not to be supported by the Prime.
Secondly, I WOULD LIKE to have root because there are many cool and useful tools which need root.
I am a Linux user for many years and feel very confotable in the command line.
Having a Linux device but not having the root privileges over it is just a shame.
I am not demanding for a rooting tool. I am at home in the Linux system, so any cryptic instuctions would be enough for me.
I also would pay for a working tool/instructions!

What?
Update to .21 and try again with that tether... Don't forget to backup su.
I have already the .21 build, else I would have root by now
But I now seem to have successed!
When I use the JoikiSpot on my N9 with no encryption, it seems not to work. The Prime always onlay sais "saved". Now I tried it with WEP128. This is almost a useless encryption, but now the Prime is able to connect to the internet.
So I am very happy right now
As a site note: with an iPhone 4 as tethering device, it works also fine without any encryption.
Not sure if this option can work for you like it does on my LG Revolution, but get WiFi Tether and set the profile to LG Optimus and SoftAP. My (rooted) Revo then acts as an AP, not AdHoc.

The N9 and N950 (which I use) are not Android based, but Maemo/MeeGo. Thats a great Linux based Operating system for tablets/phones. Sadly Nokia and Intel droped it, so it has no future. How ever for me its the right thing, because I now have a Linux based mobile phone with root rights with which I can do almost what ever I want.
Sadly JoikuSpot does not provide many options for tethering settings.
i dont know if the guys over at androidforums can help since they dont have a prime. they rooed our samsung prevails tho and one of them ported cm7 and cm9. im not sure if they are willing to help tho.
I don't know if it would work, but OTA rootkeeper is able to keep root and bring it back after updates : I have a prime rooted after update with it while still locked - for now. Anyway, my point is rootkeeper seems to backup some files and then restore them after the ota update. Would it not be possible to find what these files are and mount a script or instructions for anyone having .21 unrooted prime ? People could simply download OTA Rootkeeper, get those files, put them back in their proper place in the prime's folders and then restore and be done with it.

Its correct behaviour. Thats because of sony.ro.build.incremental lowest valu ('1'). You can update (downgrade) to 3.2, then again update to 3.2.1,
and then to 4.03
Or change value to higher to get ICS update.
OR BETTER - wait for me (or other users) and we will give proper,
easy, step by step instructions.
I want to make ICS rom capable to use for every region
br
condi
Thanks for the quick reply Condi!
If that is normal behaviour, I might just carry on, and move through all of the firmwares, keeping them rooted along the way.
Will let you all know how it goes!
If someone can upload US firmware with is tablet.
EDIT : I wait for your tutorial condi ! You have time today?
i have a 16gb 3g italian tablet, if i change the region to us, and upgrade, and the change back the region to italian, will i lose the 3g support?
I'm in India, so I'll let you know if anything shows up over this way.

Bojanglez, I'm thinking the same as you - the only reason I rooted 3.2 was for the init.d support to run scripts for SD cards. Now that ICS supports that, is there any reason to root?....
Probably, there's always a good reason for it - CPU Master is as good excuse as any!
Anybody know if the Hotspot is disabled in ICS as in Honeycomb?

I can't get the update here in the UK yet anyway, so I will wait and see how it goes here.
If I can get a rooted version as quickly as the official I probably will, but I'm not sure I can resist the temptation just to upgrade if it becomes available before.

Likewise - the temptation to just go for it is great - BUT - we should be aware of the kernel situation (.10) that stopped some users from rooting. Best not to be too hasty, Condi might well present something to keep root. He usually presents something awesome!
Does anyone actually have this yet?
Hey everyone! New here. I just got my new ZTE Majesty from Straight Talk yesterday and I hear its a relatively new phone out on the market. But, ever since yesterday I have been trying to get this darn thing rooted, but I have had no success. I've tried Motochoper, z4Root, SRSRoot, Unlock Root and a few more I can't remember. I don't get what is up with this phone, but it seems almost impossible. It's like there is something missing. I can glitch z4Root to get it to stay for a little bit... but it's barely functional. It goes away anyway.
I am running Android 4.1.2, if that has to do with anything. If anyone needs more information to help me, please do ask. I've been at work over this for the past 26 hours and it's making my brain melt.
Thanks so much. And again, if this is in the wrong section, somebody please move it. At least that way I know I'll get more hits on this problem! =)
Bump!
I'm really sorry for bumping, but I have to try to keep this at the top and not hidden away and forgotten. I have tried a few more methods (probably more dangerous methods) that also didn't work. I have posted elsewhere about rooting this phone but I haven't found anyone who can do it. Thanks so much. I know there is someone out there who can help! =D
ZTE Majesty Z796C
For the simple face that this phone came out in Sept 2013, it's no wonder why an exploit hasn't been found. Also, to complicate things, it's running Android 4.1.2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've found, this is a particularly difficult one to crack. I found a video online but the root doesn't stick. When it reboots, it's gone. Very frustrating. If anyone has anything, please let me know. Can't stand not owning my device...
BTW, it does indeed have dual core processor at 1.2 GHz.

You're talking about that Chinese root, right? That one come's SO close. But yeah, after it restart it goes away. But I have it to where before the root process ends, it sticks... but it doesn't work properly and doesn't say your device is properly rooted. Then once you restart it, it goes away. I'm trying to keep this topic as active as I can because I know someone out there is wanting to help me =D
UPDATE: I have tried the Chinese root method, SMSRoot, OneClickRoot, Klingo Android Root, SuperOneClick, RescueRoot, Poot/Ministro, z4Root, Framaroot, and even UnlockRoot Pro (a friend of mine has it). None of them Root the phone or root it permanently. It's as if the phone removes it purposely after reboot. I even tried manually rooting and no dice. Please Obi Phone Kenobi, where's our only root?
Yeah those are all the ones I tried too. I did post this on a lot of android forums but I still can't get anyone to help. This phone is about 2 weeks old and should have a root by now. If you do find a root though, would you post it here? I've been searching since the 13 for a root XD This forum may be the only chance because, well, it's a dev forum!

I just ordered one of those phones since it is on the Verizon network and that does work in the mountains and I am going to NC from Miami, I need a good throw away, anyhow......
I like to root them. My MetroPOS GS3 is rooted and I can hot spot it on 4G LTE if I need to
Even thou this would be at 3G speed, I still want to be able to hot spot 'em
so if anyone does find a root that works.......please post it here.
Also if it can be one-clicked because I use a Macbook Pro on the road, and I don't have bootcamp/Win7 on it like my iMac here at home. (That or some way to make it work thru a Mac to root it)......thanks :fingers-crossed:
So has anyone got a good root for this yet? I've been asking around but no progress. I wish I knew the problem.
It's as if 4.1.2 intentionally rejects the root and uninstalls it upon reboot during the boot process. I tried looking up the exploit from other ZTE phones, but I believe it was fixed...

Yeah. That's how it seems, especially since I can get Kingo to root it and if I unplug my device from my PC right before it finishes to tell it to shut down. But it works very temporarily (like, super temporarily. Titanium Backup doesn't work and I can't install a hacked Google Play). Root checker says it is rooted, though. But only until I restart.
Any way to downgrade this to 4.0 at all?
Crazy ZTE
Wow do they really have this phone locked! I've tried everything under the sun to ROOT this device....NO GO!!!!.....Man this is kinda fun. I really do like a good challenge...

I just tried it and it doesn't work. They trolled me lol. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it because I could have made my phone unrootable by trying so many different methods on it. I would honestly SEND my phone to a professional rooter and get them to make a method for it.
