I have been reading in the forms that this is an issue. I too am experiencing the heat issue, yet I don't see any fix. I read that the screen and/or the radios are the issue.

Mine gets a little hot at times too. I just pulled mine out of my pocket to show a friend and my screen was on and it was pretty warm, more than usual.
yeaa it gets really hot. i can't even play any hd games. the phone might over heat and crash
I had 14 hours of use today and over 4 hours screen on time. I think the higjest one got was 95 deg
I have the extended battery if that matters
Yeah, she gets a little warm. Anecdotal evidence says that the phones that get way hot (130-150 during games, 120 ish during regular use) have a hardware problem... I have read from a lot of people who have been that hot and say the trade-in was better.
Also, the extended seems to dissipate the heat better.
As for me, I didn't have much of an issue until after the first OTA. Now I top out around 125 when playing heavy games or surfing hard on 4G. Not happy about that, but I don't think it's hardware in my case. I need to get an extended anyway....
Its because of a CPU issue where the CPU runs at the highest clock speed instead of scaling like it should while the screen is on. I have this problem as well and my battery is absolute **** now :|

I downloaded the non root version of 4.0. I am going to flash the pre-rooted version of 4.0 and will use set cpu to optimize my battery life until the problem is solved

But I did have almost 5 hours screen on time :-\ didn't feel that hot. Really like having ics but that's getting pretty warm
i am using "easy battery" to help me keep my battery life and kinda keep it cooler. i recommend to return to stock os and wait until the official upgrades are given out.
When I first got this phone it actually ran hot, so hot that I can actually feel the heat on my leg when I put it in my pocket.
When I upgraded to the current leaked RUU, the heat problems went away.
I have zero heat issues on my Rezound, I still haven't gotten the new leak yet, waiting for a ROM that makes me really want to do it.

Everyone will install the ota the same way the leak was installed. The ota will include new radios and a new boot loader version. They always have. Easy.

correct me if im wrong.
i thought u would not be able to get your phone back to stock after flashing the leak . and the official update requires ur phone to be stock. something like that
" correct me if im wrong"
.........................................
maybe the official update will fix the problem
You could run the RUU again and you would be back to bone stock, albeit a leaked "official" stock, but still stock. You would have the stock recovery and be locked again.

I don't think it's the CPU. Same cpu problems in the last couple of leaks and phone is running a little warmer on current leak. I think the radios are cranked up, pulling more power. My phone only gets hot when on 4G.

Bought my galaxy s3 last monday with the anticipation of lte. I live in Decatur right outside of Atlanta, and I work in Buckhead, northern Atlanta. My galaxy wont connect to lte unless i reboot it, therefore im taking it back to best buy and hoping to find one still running 4.0.3. ive had nothing but issues since updating to 4.0.4. I know i could root the device, but when i purchase a new phone, i prefer it to work as expected, without having to hack it. I expected lte issues as ATT and Verizon both had theirs, but everytime i call Sprint they give me the run around and wont fess up to having lte issues. Hoping the 4.0.3 software didnt have the connection issues that 4.0.4 does along with the terrible battery drain.
If you guys have some ideas of what else to do to suffice for the time being i would greatly appreciate it. I did find a few posts about the lte issue with sprint, and im glad im not alone, but how is everyone coping with the battery drain and the connection issue without having to root?
All s3s come with 4.0.4 standard.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah the sgs3 was launched with 4.04 there was no 4.03. Unless you're taking about a small OTA update ? Best thing you can try is a factory wipe as that solves things usually. Give it a shot although you'll have to reinstall all your apps. But since you may be returning it you'll have to do that anyway.
I say factory wipe it and before installing everything see if connection issues resolve.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Did wipe twice with no luck. I swear mine came with 4.0.3. I remember seeing it the day I got it. But had an update 2 hours later.

I dont think the update caused the connection issue but I do know that it made my battery life even worse. I swapped it out for a new device today and come to find out I was wrong it does come with 4.0 .4. I apologize for my lack of knowledge I know everybody on this forum is smarter about android and I am just looking for some answers to help solve the issues at hand. hoping that this device will connect to lte without the issues that the last one had.

So take it back like you title states and just get the iPhone then, I'm sure you'll be happy. First you state the update is causing connectivity problems now its battery? My S3's connectivity is perfect as where my S2 sucked, don't know what to tell you, maybe you are in an area where LTE signal is hit or miss, seems to be an issue not only with ATT, but also Verizon.

Why would the OP even get an iPhone, that doesn't even get LTE! I'm on Sprint too, and I don't have the connection issues that you seem to be having. I've heard that the LG2 radio update was causing some problems for people though.

I used to have an iPhone. I prefer Google phones. Had a g1, evo, photon, one the galaxy. Swapped out for a new galaxy and it connects to lte but now I have a new problem. Battery life is worse than before and the bottom of the phone stays hot. Updated software, updated prl and profile. Any ideas? I doubt mean warm, this thing flat out gets hot. And one it takes forever to charge. Bern on the charger since 10:30 this morning and now I'm at 81% and it's 3:40 pm???!!!

Perhaps it's the phone itself...
I'm on my second phone so far and this one perform much better then the first one. Granted I didn't mess with this one at all, other then did root and restored most apps from TiBackup, but the battery is at least twice better, no heat issues.
I'd would swap it to a new one first to see if it's any better.
Yeah I'm definitely going to have to take this one back. Took it off the charger with 75% and it crashed down to 0% in less than 2 hours with no accounts syncing except google, and this was after a fresh wipe. Also getting overheating warnings on the screen after it charges for a while and the phone gets super hot. Even the screen on the front side gets hot now. All this came after I updated it this morning. Next Galaxy I swap it out for tomorrow, I'm thinking about holding off on the updates until I can find a good changelog, and known issues that come with them. This is my first samsung, and I hate that its off to such a rocky start. I know I could root and possbily fix these issues myself, but this is the whole reason I bought insurance. That and stock ics offers me everything I currently ask of android.
Will a full root come to the dna with S-off etc ? I am thinking. With it's HUGE screen and TINY battery that it was a bad decision.I just got it today.. Is the battery all that bad ? (partial power user) I can take it back within 14 days Let me know what you think

It doesn't work directly anymore, you have to use Jcase's exploit to make the HTC website think that the DNA is another phone. Then after you unlock the bootloader you can flash a recovery and SuperSU or Superuser.
You just can't obtain S-OFF yet.

This is pretty hard I rooted my Thunderbolt and it was a breeze I don't get how to do this LOL
The exploit is fairly complicated. Myself, I'm holding out hoping that maybe it can become slightly less complicated. Imo, the phone is awesome even on stock and until there's more development I don't see a need for my usage. The battery is pretty awesome btw. I get 4.75 screen on time. Trying to tweak it to make it to 5 hours.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
What are you guys talking about? Its just typing (and in fact, really just copy/paste) in a bunch of commands into a CMD prompt. Easy breezy, takes 10 minutes or so if you know how to follow instructions.
jcase has already said that he has no plans to create a "1-click" method...
IMO, if you are not comfortable following directions, dont know what ADB is, etc, perhaps you should not really be rooting your phone?
And the battery is just fine. I'm having no issues getting through the day with a single charge. The only way I could see the battery become a concern is if someone is streaming Netflix for 2-3 hrs a day. Then you probably wont get through a full day on 1 charge.
I think the main concern is the risk of bricking if instructions are not followed properly. That + other roots have been fairly straightforward so we're spoiled I personally haven't rooted mine yet either, though I do plan on doing so soon.
To the OP: the battery life has surpassed my expectations, and I'm easily lasting an entire day with my DNA. I use my phone all day for texts, web browsing, and phone calls, with around an hour of my commute being underground with no signal. Even with all this, I never need to charge it before bedtime. So yeah, I'd say this phone is definitely worth getting, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the battery's performance.

I'm on MeanBean .5 and my battery life, albeit not better than MeanRom, is not that bad. My internet usage reading is 8%. I usually don't leave my 3G/WiFi on all day and I only turn it on when I want to check something or get a MMS. I guess that's why my battery life isn't nearly as bad as yours on MeanBean.
So sounds like your battery life is about the same? Are you using the new kernel or the old one?
Yeah I would make that assumption. I'm using whichever kernel Mikey included in the Rom, which I'm assuming is the JB kernel because the ICS kernel won't work. I try to stay away from other kernels because the kernel Mikey includes in his Roms is usually tweaked to work specifically for his Roms.
Disable Google now, don't fill up every home screen with widgets, reboot and give the kernel a day to settle. That should improve your battery life to almost ics levels

I don't use Google Now, nor do I use any widgets other than weather. Hmmm...
Anyway if Google Now was the problem where would that show under battery usage statistics? Anyone know?

Something else to keep in mind is that MeanROM included Mikey's custom kernel, which was a big contribution to the fantastic battery life.

Someone on another forum suggested turning off location history in maps helped a lot with their battery life...
And someone else suggested a simple factory reset after flashing the ROM...(I know this helped out with a previous phone I had - it was burning battery like cray and running hot, and factory reset cured everything.)

Anyone else getting sluggish performance after the update? I never had any performance issues on 4.1 but some apps are really slow and jerky now, even some of the regular system animations are slower.
Also, is it just me or did the developer options disappear from settings.

Yeah, I had to Factory Reset twice to get rid of the lag, and it didn't completely resolve it. It's like even some of the core apps aren't optimized. Weird. The stuttering animations really make me pissed
If you want developer options go to settings, about phone, software information, more, then click on Build Number a bunch of times and it re-enables developer options

No problem here. I did notice that my phone was running hot after the update. I ended up powering it off for a few minutes. When I powered it back up, it ran at normal temperature. Or maybe it just cooled down.

HTC M9 disassembled
Just got mine. Any questions?
Hi all. So I just picked up my AT&T HTC One M9. If anyone has any questions about anything please let me know. Ill be happy to try to help.
It is currently stock S-On and bootloader locked and I am going to keep it that way for now but if there is anything you would like to know just ask.
Ok so a few things I have noticed after using it for about an hour.
1. It does not get hot.....it is actually much cooler than the laptop I am currently using.
2. I love the look and feel of the HTC keyboard but it doesn't change im to I'm.......I hate that!
3. There are a ton of available themes. They all say free, so I assume that in the future some will actually cost money.
4. It is definitely not as slick as the M8.
5. The camera hump on the back is perfectly placed to give a bit of leverage in holding it.
6. The placement of the power button sucks, I always hit the volume thinking it is the power button, even though the power button is textured.
7. LAG......NONE, ZERO, ZILCH. Smoothest phone I have EVER used.
8. There is a personalization option to keep the soft buttons hidden!!!
From where?
I'm confused if its available now online or if its just a pre order. And if it is available now I would rather pick it up in stores so I could have it faster.
Bought it from a guy that got it at the pre launch event in Los Angeles the other day.
What's the Antutu score? Does it get hot when you run the Antutu benchmark?
One for the long run: how does the battery life hold up, and in particular: what SOT are you getting out of it?
It did get a little warmer while running the benchmark. But no where near enough to be uncomfortable.
Not sure if the OP got the unlocked version, but does it support AT&T LTE?
No sorry mine is the AT&T version so no way to test that. I would assume so though.
ohhhh its amazing i will try it.
A reviewer complained about the device getting hot while watching videos. Can you confirm?
Also I thought the software was detecting benchmark apps and putting the chip at 100% when running them. All other times the chip is throttled. Do you think that is the case?
I can't decide on the M9 or the S6 that are branded by ATT as I'm just going to renew my contract for 2 years. I think with the M9 on ATT you will be able to root, unlock the bootloader, etc. An ATT S6 won't be able to do any of that from the past ATT Galaxys. Does that seem about right?

I can't tell if it is detecting benchmarks but the phone is lightning fast all the time. I did run the GPS yesterday for about an hour straight with the screen on and the phone definitely got hot. Not to hot to hold but enough to tell it was hot.
I will say after a couple of days use the battery seems pretty bad. I can't tell screen on time because I can't find it in the settings, but it will not come close to a full day on a single charge with heavy use. Probably close to 6-7 hours of heavy usage in my opinion.

Like I said there is no way to see screen on time, maybe there is some special app tat will do it but it has been removed from the system settings.

everybody usually uses gsam battery monitor on the htc one m8 and it gives you all the details. just screenshot the main page when you download it.
This is pretty light/average usage, also left off the charger overnight.

So the phone sleeps pretty well? What's the drain over night?
