[Q] Disable non-stock camera shutter sound - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I can't get third party camera apps to turn off their shutter sound. I have tried CameraZoom FX and ICS Camera both of which have a setting that allows your to turn the shutter sound on or off. On my Note the toggles dont do anything - when I take a picture I get an overly loud "Click". I realize that in certain countries you can't turn off the camera sound but I have never had that problem on my GS2 and the stock app on the Note has the same toggle which actually works - when I set it to silent there is no shutter sound. I prefer CameraZoom to the stock camera app but I would like to find a way to tone down or silence the camera shutter sound. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Or maybe someone can enlighten me on how to silence these third party app when snapping photos. Thanks.

There's nothing you can do to turn on/off the sound that I was able to find. Do a search in the forum (I can't remember the name of the sound file exactly) - but I just ended up renaming the shutter sound. I know when I'm taking a picture... and that shutter was so loud that it would make my dog wake up and bark. (He's a few bricks short of a house...)

Thanks. Glad to know I am not going crazy. I have seen threads for other phones about modifying the shutter sound file. Looks like I will be giving that a try on my Note.

Hey. I had this exact same issue. The file you want to rename (I amended it by adding ".bak" to it) is /system/media/audio/ui/shutter_01.ogg

Sweet that worked like a charm..now if only we could do the same for the notification sound that comes on in the middle of the night for "Phone fully charged. Please disconnect." Wakes me every time! I'm trying a few sound files but its a bit harder to test, as you can imagine. Any ideas?

Bingo.
To remove the notification sound for when the battery is fully charged, I renamed the following file: /system/media/audio/ui/TW_Battery_Caution.ogg , using velveteen71's method.
[Need Root Explorer, of course]

[Q] Can anyone solve my really odd camera problem?

Okay... seems like a minor issue but it's driving me nuts. I have no idea how long it's been an issue. I just found out today when I needed to take some photos in a quiet setting.
As long as my "Capture Tone" setting in my camera app is checked (allowing the shutter sound) the camera works fine. But when I uncheck it (to silence the shutter sound), the camera will not take a photo. Just in case, I tried in all resolution settings.
When I uncheck that setting and then go touch the "shutter" button to take a photo, it acts like it is trying to take the picture, then makes a strange click that I can actually *feel* in my phone, then it just goes back to the live viewfinder view as if it's ready to take a photo without having taken the photo I just attempted to take!
Then if I go check the "Capture Tone" setting, everything works fine! Any ideas how to resolve this or what may have caused this issue?

That does seem odd. If you're bootloader unlocked with CWM, maybe give the droid 3 camera a shot. The checkbox worked, and took a silent picture for me..
the camera settings in build.prop can be modified, I believe they're towards the bottom. There is a setting for the shutter tone there, I would mess with that. make a backup first.
I dont have this prob on Alien#4, I disabled shutter sound on day one and have taken at least a hundred pics since. Before Alien I had experienced the strange internal click vibration you spoke of, but not since.

[Q] Camera autofocus 'click'?

I'm not sure if I've just never noticed it before but after muting the camera shutter sound by turning the ringer down before opening the camera app, I now can hear a slight 'tick' or 'click' when I tap to focus. It's nothing like the 'clickity clicks' my OG Droid used to make when starting the camera BUT it does concern me a bit. I baby my phone/ haven't dropped it or had an impact etc.
[Q]: Does anyone else out there in XDA land hear this sound?
Thanks,
Derek
SEARCH!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361406&highlight=camera+clicking+noise
I feel like it's the normal sound I'd expect from a focusing lens... every digital camera i'd ever had made that noise...
I did a search but apparently I either didn't use the right key words or am totally incompetent (which happens after a few... )
Thanks.
The search here really isn't that great. I alwts use Google to search xda and its a million times better

Huawei Medipad X1 - How to silence the camera?

I have a Mediapad X1 7D-501L running a B102 official ROM. The phone is rooted. The camera app has no option to silence the camera's shutter sound. I installed Camera FV-5 and unchecked the "Play Camera Sounds" options. However, a shutter sound is still produced whenever I take a picture. This app used to work fine on my Note 2 and Note 3. Of all the camera apps I tested so far this is the one I like the most, by far. Does anyone know a way to silence the camera for good with having to try other apps? Thanks.
Look into system/media/audio/ui there is a camera_click. Ogg
Rename it or move it. If that doesn't work, you need to create an audio file without sound and give it the same name........
Thanks! For those wanting to do the same, don't forget to restart your phone for changes to take effect.

To add the option of muting the shutter sound in stock camera, you need to edit the build prop as follows:
using any trusted root explorer, find /system/build.prop
Change the file properties from -rw-r--r-- (644) to -rwxrwxrwx (777) otherwise you can't save changes.
open the file and append: ro.hwcamera.sound.muteable = true
save changes, then revert properties back to -rw-r--r-- (644)
restart the phone and a new option to mute shutter sound should appear in the camera options.
Thanks a lot! :good:

Remove shutter sound

Is there ANY way on earth to change/remove the shutter sound on the LG V30? Suddenly snapchat has begun using the shutter sound as well - and THAT makes me SICK!! I have rooted my phone, so if a rooted app is what it takes, that won't be a problem

Bug rundown on stock ROM

So. I've had this phone for less than a week, and the amount of bugs I've found in the stock ROM is just staggering.
Just want to know if these are really bugs from the OS and not a faulty unit. And if so, have you have found any workaround for any of them?
Also, I'm placing here some fixes (if there are). So new people to the phone won't have to go all over the internet looking for a fix.
1) after unlocking the phone with fingerprint, sometimes the brightness goes to about 70% and stays there. Adaptive brightness won't lower it until you manually decrease it.
-My fix: Disabled adaptive brightness and installed Velis from the play store. Configured the brightness pattern and there, problem solved.
2) audio sounds muffled in every app other than phone.
-My fix: A factory reset fixed this issue for me. I believe it's a Google assistant related problem.
3) WhatsApp voice note audio recording quality is poor and volume is low, WhatsApp calls, however sound amazing.
4) (not sure if this is a bug) using hdr in the main camera really messes the image borders. Things appear to be way wider than they are. Using no hdr makes it a little less wide. Which is to be expected from wide angle lenses in phones.
5) when plugged to the charger, the screen brightness goes up. I've noticed that in a dark room, the brightness sensor value goes from 0 to 81 when the led turns on. A design flaw, maybe?
6) Copied text, and dragging folders in Solid explorer creates a ghost image of the thing in question.
-Fix?: Close the app in the recent apps. Thanks to: @fetaiharbin
7) The on screen fingerprint sensor is painfully slow sometimes.
-Fix?: Removing the animation on the fingerprint scan is actually a great way of saving around 1/2s every time. Procedure here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a3/how-to/guide-remove-fingerprint-animation-t3966514
And also, check this post for more tweaks. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a3/how-to/tweaks-features-xiaomi-mi-a3-root-t3976287
Are you experiencing any of these or got a fix for them ? Let me know!
Don't forget the thanks button if this post helped you.
I can confirm 1 and 5 are bugs that were here day one bugs that never fixed. Also I'll tell you another one, copying texts will make them stick to screen.

I have this phone for like 2 months or so, and I do have the 1 issue where the brightness goes higher.
I also have the 3rd issue where instead for example recording the song that I'm playing on my earphones, it records my voice instead.
As per the copying and the text that gets stuck on the screen, you can remove that app where you copied from recent apps, and it'll disappear, but still that sucks.
I've been waiting for Android 10, but it seems that I might have to flash MiUi and give it a try.

Can both of you confirm the WhatsApp recorded voice notes sounding muffled problem?
For me, it's only on the WS voice notes.
Using a voice recorder app I get clear recordings with very good quality. So I'm not thinking it's a hardware issue.
Also. Check the first post for a fix on problem 1.
