Sorry if the title on this question isn't clear enough, hard to give a short clear title.
Since I've installs ICS on my Samsung Galaxy S II, I've been repeatedly annoyed by it that every single time I connect my Bluetooth keyboard, the OS automatically switches my virtual keyboard to the Samsung virtual keyboard.
The problem is the Samsung keyboard screws up everything I type on my Logitech bluetooth keyboard. I want to use either 'null keyboard' or 'hacker's keyboard' which are two virtual keyboards I installed that work great with my hardware bluetooth keyboard, but every time the keyboard sleeps and reconnects, the phone swiches back to the Samsung one.
I can't even disable it because the option to disable is locked out.
I have root access to the phone.
Thanks to anyone in advance.
mine problem as well:
Tab 10.1 + ZAGG keyboard case
default samsung kb is just stupid
prefer "hacker's" or "smart keyboard"
but tab does not support language switch unless it's "samsung keypad"
The Samsung keyboard I cannot help you get rid of unless you switch to CyanogenMod 9 which is what I run on my Galaxy Tab 8.9.
However if you can confirm if the language switching key on the Samsung keyboard has scancode 191 or 368 (or something else) then I'll try to make sure that the next version of External Keyboard Helper Pro will switch language using that key.
Either use the debugging option in External Keyboard Helper or this app to read the scancode of that key: https://github.com/chrisboyle/keytest/downloads
Thanks, any clue how to just get the OS to stop the auto-switch to the Samsung keyboard? Disabling it is just an option. If we can just stop the auto-switch upon detecting a bluetooth keyboard that'd be great.

The only way to stop this notification is to remove or disable all keyboards except the one you want. I get the same issue on my S2 and it looks like Samsung have locked their keyboard into the OS pretty tightly. I'm thinking Cyanogenmod or ParanoidAndroid or similar is our only option. Still looking but not much info anywhere.
Installing Keyboard Manager hasn't helped, even though it has an option to persist its own notification this app has no effect on stopping the default notification in ICS.
I must say the samsung keyboard is very annoying. Why they won't let us disable it baffles me, and why they forcefully make it take over every time a bluetooth keyboard is connected confuses me even more. The samsung keyboard has absolutely terrible support for bluetooth keyboards. Null Keyboard, Hacker's Keyboard, and Swiftkey 3 all properly support bluetooth keyboards connected and work great, but the Samsung one terribly messes up typical characters on a US layout keyboard, things like ' " ! ~ ? / \ [ ] $ # etc. all appear as accented or utterly wrong characters.
Possible solution to suppress Samsung keyboard
I understand this is an old thread, but I came across it when I was looking for a solution to suppress the Samsung keyboard for similar reasons as listed above. Maybe what seems to work for me can help others with similar issues. I have a Galaxy S III with stock JB 4.1.1 (rooted), so not sure if this solution works for other Samsung phones and ROMs.
I managed to prevent the Samsung keyboard from automatically being selected when connecting with a bluetooth keyboard (Logitech) by simply freezing the Samsung keyboard app with Titanium Backup (requires root). After rebooting the phone, the message that for using a bluetooth keyboard I have to select the Samsung keyboard does not appear anymore and the keyboard is not listed anymore under "Language and input" in Settings.
To further automate the selection of the right keyboard app (External Keyboard Helper Pro in my case) when the bluetooth keyboard connects, I am using a tasker (Llama) and Secure Settings to automatically select the right keyboard when the bluetooth keyboard connects/disconnects. This works well so far.
Best solution anyone could come up with so far. Thanks laanrobe.

Thanks for your time.

I was able to use the interface of the Blueinput.apk (from Teksoft) by installing it under the alternative keyboard method of moving the apk from data/apps to system/aps and then reboot. You should be able to select this "keyboard" on long press. Assuming you have already run the program with BT on and your keyboard paired and connected, (and in my case my Mogo BT mouse) you can type with your bluetooth keyboard.
The mouse has no cursor and is a bit jittery, but it works. My mouse functions as a three button mouse and the center button backs you out of a program to the home screen.
BlueInput force closes
Sorry to revive a slightly old thread, but I figured it would be better than starting a new one.
I tried to do this with my gtab on TnT Lite 3.1.1, but BlueInput force closes on me when I try to launch it, press the pairing button at the bottom when an input box is active, or access the keyboard settings in the settings menu.
These are the exact steps I performed:
Downloaded BlueInput version 1.7.202 from www .teksoftco. com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid&tab=download
Copied the blueinputandroid_signed_1.7.202.apk to my /sdcard/
Opened Root Explorer
Copied /sdcard/blueinputandroid_signed_1.7.202.apk
Navigated to /system/app
Mount R/W
Pasted blueinputandroid_signed_1.7.202.apk
Longpressed blueinputandroid_signed_1.7.202.apk
Permissions
Checked: User Read+Write, Group Read, Others Read
Mount R/O
Restarted gtab
Opened a text input field (Google Search widget)
Longpressed text boxt -> Input Method
Selected BlueInput
Pressed the pairing button on the bottom left (BlueInput icon)
Force Close
I've tried this with bluetooth off, bluetooth on but not paired, and bluetooth on and paired but not connected (Apple Wireless Keyboard).
Would anyone happen to have any tips as to what I've done incorrectly?
Thanks in advance.
Hello
I just installed 3.1.1 for the first time last night. I also just installed Blueinput from my saved APK. I ran it.. it loads fine. I then did the fix by moving the apk to /system. Ran it fine. Turned on Blue tooth. Paired my Mogo mouse just now. Went into a dialog box. Long press and select Blueinput as the keyboard (it does not render a dot in the box, but it activates it as the keyboard). Mouse works fine. I assume my keyboard will work as well. Not sure why you are getting FC. perhaps is is an old version or something. I am running BlueInput 1.6.131
@joncwchao
Did you also install the ap? I got the fc folling your steps, then i installed the app...
Did you try to install it normally first to see that this new version runs? If not, try to get the previous version install it normally, make sure it runs, then move it to /SYSTEM/APPS. Then reboot.
EDIT: I downloaded the new version 1.7 and confirm it works. I am typing with it now.
What Bluetooth Keyboard are you using? I had the Microsoft 6000, but it would not work. It would show up and act like it was working, but would only make a clicking noise. No letters would show up. Now I am using a USB keyboard which works pretty well. Thanks!
I am using a DEALEXTREME apple BT clone. Works great. Small enough but not miniture either.
Whoops
Yeah ok that was my mistake, I was moving the installer .apk instead of the installed app .apk.
Both the 1.7 and 1.6 versions work.
I'm using the official Apple Wireless Keyboard, which I got for 65.99 (WOO $4 savings on boxing day sigh).
Is there any way to make it so that it DOESN'T come up with the text input box taking up the entire screen every time I press on a text input field? I know that this BlueInput fix is (hopefully) temporary since bluetooth will be rolled into the custom firmwares eventually, but it's a little annoying lol.

Whenever I connect my mini bluetooth keyboard, a mouse pointer comes up in the middle of the screen. The keyboard doesn't have any controls for the mouse (I think) and there is no way to get rid of it without disabling the bluetooth keyboard.
Does anyone know of anyway to disable the mouse pointer or hide it somehow? I am on 2.3.3
Screenshot of pointer:

EDIT: Changed ROM to Exynos Extreme 3.2, mouse pointer gone now
Yea, I have the same issue... Anyone know of a fix?
Not a fix as such ...
I have one of the cheap EBay bluetooth keyboards but I don't have this problem. In other words, my keyboard identifies itself to the phone just as a keyboard, your one obviously claims to be a mouse as well.
I'd say you have 2 options:
Maybe, just maybe, somewhere in Settings -> Wireless and network ->Bluetooth Settings under Bluetooth devices, you will be able to modify the settings for your keyboard: Press and Hold the device and click on options. I have a tickbox for "HID device" only - you may have something else for pointing device?
Maybe your keyboard has a mouse-type device on it. Assuming there isn't a obvious d-pad somewhere, maybe it's a 2-key combination involving the use of some "magic" key along with the arrow keys. If you can figure it out, then just move the pointer out of the way, and you're good!

Unfortunately I only have one profile in the bluetooth settings as well. There is a D-pad on the keyboard on the WASD keys but when using them all it does is cycles through the context menus.
Is there an app that would allow me to control the mouse pointer by touch or by binding the directions to keys on the keyboard? I've searched but found zilch
I have exactly the same problem on a galaxy s 1 with gingerbread and would love to know of a fix. I tried to find an app to move the pointer to the right edge of the screen but I couldn't find anything.
I have the exactly same problem as you all. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 on it and a keyboard which identifies itself as "Bluetooth mini Keyboard" (cheap from ebay). It works as it should, but there's this annoying mouse pointer in the middle of the screen and I have no idea how to disable it -.-
I guess I'm just going to have to invest in a decent keyboard/controller until this issue is resolved, does anyone know of any good ones specifically for NES and PS1 emulators and the like
I've fixed this now, if anyone is having the same problem I noticed the mouse does not appear when using the Exynos Extreme ROM.

Great to hear that there is a fix for this...
But as that ROM is for SGS2 owners I just wounder if anyone got
rid of this issue on a SG I9000?
Would be great with an easier fix than flashing with a specific ROM,
evnt though I think I'll do that if that's the only route to go!
(running DarkyROM 10.2EEF ATM)
Thanks in advance!

Apparently the mouse pointer is hard coded with samsung roms. There are a few non-samsung roms out there that have a pointer.png in the framework.apk that could be edited, but unfortunately samsung roms do not have this png. I've scoured several apk's in the system folder and none of them have it. I've also searched and installed every possible app in the market that may have been able to move the pointer, but none of them worked. They were mostly wifi apps to control a PC mouse.
I've been trying to resolve this issue for weeks and have come to the conclusion that no one knows or cares to take the time to figure it out. I even got in a fight with someone because he felt I was the only one with this issue and was complaining that there wasn't a fix.
There's a bunch of bt keyboards out there that cause the mouse pointer to appear, so there's a strong chance that someone with some technical skill will be able to resolve it someday...probably after the "official" gingerbread release. In the meantime, try to find the cheapest bt mouse you can get your hands on and move it out of the way.
Anyway to disable that annoying accent character popup when typing on a bluetooth keyboard?
I'm using a TP with CM7 3.5 with a Motorola BT KB. I'v googled this to death and haven't found any solutions.
I tried null keyboard. Don't work.
Can't find anything in settings.
Anyone know?
Thx
I have the same issue with the motor kbd. I believe the issue is in the kbd software not the tp.

I called Motorola and Logitech (I have both keyboards and have the same issue with both) about the popup boxes. Both companies told me that it is a function of the operating system and is not hard coded into the keyboards. They said we should look into a software solution as the keyboard does not have the accent popup feature. Maybe this is a thing for the devs.

I just noticed you get a accent box popup when long pressing the on screen keyboard.
There has to be some way to change this.
thabksssssss
I installed the Go Keyboard app and no longer get the accent box popup.
I just wish there was an app that would get rid of it. Or someone figure out how change the setting in Android.
I like using the BT KB with null keyboard. Which has no onscreen keyboard.
When using a BT KB with go keyboard, holding the shift does not capitalize letters. You have to tap the shift key once to capitalize. You can't hold it. I emailed the authors to try to get them to fix that.
I tried a few other addon keyboards and they all have that stupid popup.
My wife's android phone with a physicial keyboard phone gets the same accent popup.
The BlueInput soft doesn't have that problem.
I think you needed to pair the keyboard with their software and not with the buildit android one, but after that it doesn't show the annoying pop when long press on the keyboard keys.
I use it with one of those mini BT keyboards and works fine.

YES! This works properly! Thx a LOT!
BlueInput doesn't work reliably. Mouse would not work with it. Uninstalled.

Only tried with the crappy keyboard, but good to know that it doesn't pick the mouse.
I'm guessing the batteries in my mouse were almost dead. Even without Blueinput installed, mouse would not stay connected. I'v only had this mouse since Saturday. It came with Everready Energizers. This Motorolla mouse has an indicator that is supposed to flash orange when the batts are low, it didn't. So I thought they were still good.
After reading some reviews on some BT mice, some said the batts died really fast. So I installed some fresh duracell's today and mouse is working fine. I'll keep the switch off when not using it this time.
So I reinstalled Blueinput and just connected the KB through it. Left the mouse connected through android. I'm pretty sure the mouse would work through Blueint now with the fresh batts.
Just got myself a new BT keyboard with an integrated mouse, as you said, when paring/connecting using the BlueInput driver the mouse doesn't work which kind of sucks 8)
I found some another driver does appear to work fine (at least it allows me to use both the keyboard and mouse at the same time without the annoying "accent" popup window.
BlueKeyboard JP

Still need to test a play a little bit more (see which layout fits my keyboard) but I think is more usable with this driver than the original/build-in CM7 one.

Works well. I have seen this before. Not sure why I didn't try it. Maybe I thought it was Japanese only. IDK. Tried so many.
Are you getting this when clicking on an iput box?
The setting of "selected keyboard" is not found.
It still works everytime. Just weird.
Oh I figured out that error. I had to actually select the kb in Bluekeyboard JP settings. I didn't select it before. I could see it there. I though it was already selected. It wasn't.
Another thing I noticed. When you select your BT KB in "Connecting process" in Bluekeyboard JP settings, everytime you click on an input box, there is a message box saying "connecting.. don't touch the keyboard yet". The KB still worked while that message was displayed.
I got rid of that by unchecking "Connecting process" in settings.
So now it works with no message boxes.
Blueinput JP FC's on every boot...
I normally use Hacker's Keyboard and change to the BT one when I connect the extenal keyboard,
just done a quick reboot and no FCs.
Still I think is good enough for me, I read somewhere than since Android 3.1 the keyboard is handled a litlle diferente (no more bin files for each keyboard, just plain text) so maybe whenever ICS is out we can have a better option 8) (xmast wish hehe)
Bluekeyboard JP works perfectly on CM9! No more FC's. Reconnects nicely.
I mistakenly called it Blueinput JP a couple of posts above.
I'm trying to pair my bluetooth keyboard, which worked perfectly under Gingerbread, but will not pair under ICS. Basically, the keyboard will not go into pairing mode until I give it a pin, and ICS won't give me the pin until the keyboard is pairing. Is there any way to tell ICS what pin to expect before trying to pair? This is the sequence I am doing:
1. Put keyboard in discoverable mode.
2. Select the keyboard in the bluetooth menu.
3. Type in a pin on the keyboard and hit enter.
4. A dialog comes up on the tablet telling me what pin to use to pair. (I have to type in the pin in the keyboard for this to come up)
5. Pairing fails after about 1/4 of a second.
Anyone I have the same thing. Get a pop up for a quarter of a second that has a pin but I can't enter it or even read it and then fail.
Please been looking for a solution for a while.
HP Touchpad CM9 4.03
I've downgraded to cyanogenmod 7, and am purchasing a case with a built in keyboard that hopefully does not share the issue. I think these are the only two options.
Bluetooth keyboard in ics
Hi all, I hope I'm in the right area, I have android ics, when I go to pair a Bluetooth keyboard, I put the keyboard into pairing mode and then search on the phone. The phone finds the keyboard and sais please enter the pin code on the keyboard, and press enter, wichita I do and the message on the phone disappears and the keyboard seems to be pairs, but when you look at the keyboard the pairing light is still flashing. The keyboard works great on my partners...dare I say it iPad, but I can not get it to work in ics. I've tried blueinput, blue keyboard jp ,but neither of these program's seem to help. The can see the keyboard but don't seem to connect to them. Any help would be appreciated. To me it seems as tho the keyboard is not receiving an acceptance message from the phone to say connected.

I would venture to say this is a device specific issue. I'd recommend going to the forum for your particular device and replying to a six month old post there that is vaguely related to your issue.
I have looked through the forums, and havnt found anything that helps. I have tried different programs and possible fixes. To no avail. I have a generic phone with ics so rooting may not b an option. One thing i have noticed is ics automatically generates a bluetooth access key. Is there a way to change this to manually choose or enter a pass key. I think this may be part of my problem. Or possibly fix the issue i have. Any thoughts.

I just purchased a Zaggkeys Flex keyboard for a friend that has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I followed the instructions and paired the keyboard to the device, but it will not type when I press any of the keys. I paired the Flex keyboard to my Samsung Infuse 4g and it worked without any problems. However what I noticed is that when I connect the Flex keyboard to my Infuse it automatically switches from the Android on-screen keyboard to the Samsung on-screen keyboard as the input method and then it works. However when I looked at the input methods on the Galaxy Tab the only option available is the Android on-screen keyboard. The tablet is rooted and is running Cyanogenmod 10.1. I am not the one that rooted the tablet and I am wondering if the person that did deleted the Samsung keyboard or if this happens with Cyanogenmod 10.1 or if this is even the problem. I also tried using apps like blueinput and bluekeyboard, but when trying those I received the message that HID is not supported by the device which I don't believe is correct because I have seen many posts stating how easily this keyboard normally pairs with the Galaxy Tab.
Please let me know if you think it is something with the way the tablet was rooted or if it has to do with Cyanogenmod 10.1 or any other problems that may be causing this issue and any solutions you may have. Or at the very least is there anyway I can get the Samsung on-screen keyboard back onto the tablet to see if that is the problem?? This is very frustrating especially since this keyboard was supposed to be a graduation gift. Please help
