[Q] 1080p flash videos on ARHD ICS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I am currently using Android Revolution HD 6.5.1 XE on my Sensation and I have several major problems:
1. I realize that 1080p mkv videos that my phone can play smoothly on Gingerbread (including Youtube HD 1080p) now become laggy. Even with SD videos (fully HW accelerated), sometimes the playback is choppy as well (I use MX player and Dice player). Can anyone help me confirm whether you have the same problems? I believe ARHD ICS does not have GPU overclocked as on Gingerbread, hence the choppy video playback.
2. On random occasions, I cannot get any sound on any applications, but notification sounds and stock music player are working normally. I can still listen to music through the stock player but cannot get any sound for videos. Everything will return to normal when I restart the phone.
3. Wifi randomly turns on by itself. The last time I check, this problem seems to be unsolved, but I may be wrong.
Any kind souls willing to give me some directions to solve the above problems? ARHD Gingerbread ROM does not have any of the problems above, but I don't want to go back to Gingerbread.

[Q] RUNNING UnNamed Rom v1.3.0 on i777-Video playback Problem

I'm currently running my phone SGH i777 on Unnamed rom v1.3.0, i'm experiencing some problems on video playback on my current rom. The video stutters while playing less than even a second but happens quiet constantly on the phone. I wanted to know is the problem with the hardware of the phone or does the problem exist on this rom.?

No problems here - but it depends on the video. Video that uses certain features that are part of H.264 High Profile can do weird things.
I am on UnNamed 1.3.1 and hadn't tried video playback since I installed so I pulled up Mobo player and tried some movies on my SD card. Movies with dolby digital and two channel AAC would sometimes close as soon as they started although they would play after I tried a few times. Video without dolby digital seemed to play first time. I looked at the Mobo options and turned on "soft decoding". I haven't got a close since then. Video playback is very smooth (32GB class 10 uSD card). My videos were encoded in Handbrake as H.264 using the AppleTV2 setting. I only use AAC for movies that don't have much of a soundtrack.
These were videos .mp4 that i downloaded using tubemate and played them on my phone..In software decoding mode the're working fine in HW dec mode stutter while playing, so does that mean that the default video player on this rom is unable to play back these videos with the support of the hardware..?

[A] Choppy Video Playback

First thread and post! Hello everyone!
I have not found the solution to this problem on any thread on any forum yet, but here it is (with some back story)!
I had just got a Tab 10.1 P7510 (wifi only retail) running Honeycomb 3.2. To my dismay, video playback was choppy no matter what format I wanted to play, no matter what player I tried (MX, Dice, Mobo or whatever it is, native Video, etc).
I read here and/or elsewhere that Touchwiz was the culprit.
I read here and/or elsewhere that videos not encoded by a strict set of rules was the cuplrit.
Poppycock! I can play all the same videos on my Casio Commando in MX and on my kids' Archos 101 Gen8 tablets without a hitch using the stock video player. FLV, H.264 MP4, Xvid/Divx AVI, MP3, AAC, AC3. Doesn't matter! However, any video format I played on my SGT was choppy.
I was thoroughly frustrated by this point, as you can imagine.
To get around Touchwiz I flashed CleanROM Rewind 1.0 (HC 3.1). Problem solved! Except now when my Tab would go to sleep, waking it up presented scrambled video output, requiring a cold boot. I flashed CleanROM 1.2 (HC 3.2) and so, back to choppy video.
THE PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
The problem, as I serendipitously discovered it, was HARDWARE rendering! All I had to do was turn on software rendering in MX and suddenly my SD videos are playing smoothly, regardless of how they were encoded.
I didn't bother with the other video players because they did the same thing as MX, so I safely assume that those players have the option to switch between HW and SW rendering.
I hope this helps some folks out there!
As an aside, thanks to all of you in the Android community for helping me solve most of my other problems!
EDIT: I only had to enable software rendering, not turn off hardware rendering (I don't think you can disable HW rendering). In the case of MX Video Player, it appears that it will use HW or SW as it sees fit.

[Q] Fix stock video player???

Recently updated to ics rom, however, the stock video player no longer plays avi files as it did with gb rom. I have flashed several gb roms since (full wipe each time) and still won't play. I've tried several stock video apks from this forum too yet still no joy. I have read that Samsung have stopped supporting sum codecs on ics update (Galaxy nexus owners are having similar issues). I'm back on gb rom but avi is still not playing as I'm getting the 'unsupported file' message bearing in mind the same file played fine prior to ics update. How do I get back or reinstall the original codecs? Flashing gb roms doesn't fix it either!
Probably not the answer you want, but you could do worse than opening your wallet and buying MX Video Player or Dice Player.
I bought both, and have yet to find a file/codec that neither can play.
The stock player (I'm on GB too) borked too often for no reason on too many file types for me. Never tried it on ICS.
iv got mx player, it works when using sw decoder. use to work on hw encoder for both mx and stock player.
I have a couple of videos which play fine in MX with HW encoding, but with no audio. The same videos play fine with perfect audio in Dice with HW encoding.
Codecs are fussy buggers. I do all my own encoding with MeGUI/avisynth - no shortcuts - and still haven't found one profile for all, so I chop and change.
Only bought Dice a couple of weeks ago, but it's overtaken MX as my default player. There's a free version with intensely annoying nag banners if you want to try it.
Thanks for suggestion, but ultimately, I'd like the stock player to be working as it did with gb with hw decode. This ics update has been a disaster on sammys part, ruined the excellent vid player, ruined the phone apk wrt contact options been omitted. Maybe success is getting to them!
What version of ICS fw were you running or what ROM? I have had no problems whatsoever playing videos on ICS using stock. I use my phone a lot for watching videos and need it to function properly as I take the train to and from work a few hours a day. Were you running an AOKP or CM9 based rom?
If you still can't play when reverting back to GB, I'd suggest a full wipe, wpe cache/partition. Then flash a GB stock rom through ODIN. See if that works?
Tried that, still no joy. Was on gb kk5 rom. But now keep getting unsupported file!?

HD video playing errors/troubles

Hey Guys,
I have been experiencing playback problems ever since I got ICS. Playing 1080P videos in MKV or MP4 format was never a problem. Now quickbox and stock player will not even open files like this (1080P clips around 500-700mb). The only player so far which is able to run them is MX player and it lags and stutters (so un watchable). AVI formats work just fine and this sort of playback was just fine on Gingerbread. Anyone know of a solution?
Also please don't tell me to convert these video to 720P or anything else like that etc, it's a nuisance and I want to be able to play all formats (which worked before) on my phone from the get go.
xt910 on 4.0.4 (OTA stock update).

Problem with video playback

Hi,
I am running my SII on 4.0.1 and I am very frustrated with its performance on video recording and playback (the problem existed on the 2.3 OS version too).
Bascally if I try to watch a clip on YouTube (does not matter if I am on wifi on 3G) the movie will start showing nicely but very quickly the sound will continue to run smoothly but the image will freeze and then will jump back to sync with the audio and then freeze again etc. - so you can't see a nice smooth playback. It does not matter if the video is fuly downloaded.
If I record a movie using the camera - I will get a choppy video with freezes. This is really frustrating and I wonder if other have experience the same problem and more importantly if there is a solution for this annoyng problem.
Thanks in advance,
Itay
