phone constant reboots - HTC EVO 3D

Well I got myself into a real pickle here. I was trying to get the newer OTA with my unlocked rooted 3D I tried everything I have here on how to do it but now my phone just reboots itself after it get to the sprint screen sometimes it does make it to where is show the info bar at the top with the time but reboots soon after. I have tried a stock recovery and a new OTA RUU using hboot and the PG86IMG.IMG which did install at hboot but I still have the same issues. Any ideas on how to at least get back to normal?

What hboot are you ? Also what software are you on 2.08 ? You are CDMA I am guessing? If all else fails man boot into your recovery and wipe just not your SD card and go back to hboot relock your phone and use the latest 2.17 ruu exe.. Works every time and then root again and your set... This info is for CDMA only Not GSM>>>

THanks reaper. I was on hboot 1.5 and CDMA sorry for not stating. I ended up just taking it back to sprint and they gave me a new phone which I am actually happy about because of a few blemishes I had on the phone. I think I will wait till after ICS and see if they can get it rooted. I really only want the ability to wireless tether.
Again thanks for the reply

[Q] Possible to hboot downgrade after ICS rom?

Where I'm at:
Relocked from HTC Unlocked method with fresh 2.17 Image with Hboot 1.50 S-On
Sprint CDMA Evo 3D Hw02
Where I'm going:
MeanRom ICS .6 with Hboot 1.40 S-Off
Having a bi4ch of a time trying to brick my phone for the hboot downgrade. I've read that I can flash MeanROM if I use ext4 recovery with it set to smartflash for dealing with phone that is hboot S-On. I'm wondering if anyone has tried hboot downgrade AFTER going to ICS?
I'm wondering if I can run ICS for a few days, back it up, flash back to 2.17, relock, and resume the quest for S-Off?
Just getting sick of attempting to brick the phone and only getting dim slow blink light instead of solid dim light. 20+ attempts, and counting. I've tried using slower Class 4 microsd. Counting to 5. Counting to 4. Pulling power as soon as "Updating" appears. Pulling as soon vertical progress bar shows. ,etc.,.. No joy.
I'm going to keep trying.. Any advice appreciated..
Update: Wouldn't you know it.. The very next attempt after I post this.. it bricks. Son of a B.. This phone is out to make me crazy.
Still curious if anybody went the ext4 recovery route.. did ICS change your Hboot version and prevent hboot downgrade after ICS?

You can flash any ROM with any Kernel with unlocked hboot 1.5 S-on, other recoveries can also flash meanROM if you use PC to boot recovery. 4ext recovery does not require PC to flash to boot partition. And yes you can use ICS ROMs just fine, but do not flash the firmware as there is no way to revert back to the one you currently have. Flash only the ROM and see if it works for you, if not, just flash gingerbread ROM again. I 've only flashed the stock ICS ROM and it is working fine for me.............................................

HTC EVO 3D Rogers OTA Update On Rooted Phone?

Hello everybody
The new ICS update for the ROGERS EVO 3D just came out yesterday, so I restored my phone to the original firmware (via restoring the backup I did in the recovery) and then proceeded to download the OTA update. After it finished, the phone rebooted into the recovery (i have 4-ext touch recovery) and started installing. After it finished, the phone rebooted and then got stuck on the white HTC screen. I managed to enter the recovery again and restore the original firmware again. What is that I'm doing wrong here? Here is some helpful info:
Rogers EVO 3D, GSM version
Unlocked bootloader (HTCDEV method), S-ON
carrier unlocked
HBOOT 1.49.0008
OS is rooted
I'm in the same boat but I'm not able to do a recovery. I went through the update process and when the phone rebooted it got stuck on the white htc screen. I can get it into the bootloader menu but when i choose recovery it starts but then i get an error with a pic of the device and the red yield sign. If i choose factory reset it just gets stuck at the white htc. I read some other posts and I saw that having an unlocked bootloader may cause issues with updates so that may be your issue as for me, I'm not sure what I can do. I may just need the actual update file to redo the update but I'm not sure where to find it.
Same here, but I don't get half way through the ota update before I see the red triangle and exclamation mark. Phone will boot into stock recovery (which I would assume you need instead of modded recovery) and the update starts, but doesn't complete. I pull the battery and the phone boots up normally. Just can't seem to get through the update. Could be something to do with being s-off I would guess.

Same problem but whit s-off
I have been predicting that this would happen... ICS failures with non-standard HBOOTs. Good luck.
Probably will have to wait for an RUU or custom.
I'd recommend using the GB ruu to get you back to full stock. Always found Rogers ota updates (possibly all carriers?) won't install if you're rooted or using a custom recovery.
I had to install the ruu via renaming the rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip and copying it to the sd card so that the bootloader would auto flash it. Running the ruu exe tossed up all kinds of errors.
It will put everything back to Rogers stock. After that just setup wifi and do the 2 Rogers OTA updates.
Once in ICS, it's easy peasy to get recovery and root back.
Also, for what it's worth, Go Backup is awesome for going rom to rom and not needing a full backup. Use it on rooted rom, then use it to restore after rooting new rom. Will do all your apk's and everything.
1st post here after years of lurking. Yay.

Alright thanks a lot
Just an update on what I did. I was able to reload the stock gb rom for rogers using the exe file, then I went through the 2 updates that came up when checking and ics is now up and running on my phone. However in my attempts of trying to fix the original problem, I managed to re-lock my bootloader before flashing to stock rom and I had s-on the whole time. hope this help.
i switched to stock like.. a week back?
jus got ota on 4th
i WAS rooted and using juopunutbear's hboot *u can jus get the hboot from their website*
so i jus flashed back stock recovery.. and updated.. and success.. lost root though.. and i was back to stock bootloader..
used the PG86IMG with juopunutbear's bootloader and 4ext recovery.. and flashed cwm supersu.. v0.91 i think.. i dunno.. latest one.. and bam.. im on stock.. rooted.. and works perfectly..
Possible sollution
Maybe try flashing one of the customized ROMs that are based on the latest OTA update. I'm sure Anryl's newest rom is blazing-fast and stable. You can find it in the gsm android development forum and flash it via recovery. Make sure you have the latest 4ext recovery installed, though.
where can a i find that stock rogers rom i modified mine and that might be the reason i get a security failure in hboot. s is on. when i run the ruu file in windows to downgrade i get error 155. when i run the the update from about phone. it locks up with blue android guy and yellow exclamation mark. i remove the battery and she boots fine with no changes.
I am trying to do same. Get stuck on HTC screen. I have S-ON. Was on cobra 2.4 prior.
If anyone can give details on how to fix it, it would be great! Please no saying "install exe". I need to know which exe etc.
just wanted to tell everyone that in order for the ota update to work properly, you need to be running stock unrooted firmware with a locked bootloader. Just relock your bootloader, reinstall the stock firmware, upgrade to ics via ota, then re-unlock and re-root.
Hi
I have a HTC EVO 3D from Rogers that was got messed up during changing networks... rooted the phone for no apparent reason... to now get a update for it for ics from the provider and it bricked the phone.
It's stuck at HTC boot screen, can get fastboot USB from bootloader. recovery gets a ! in a triangle and factory reset doesn't work, freezes at splash screen after restarting the phone. Was stupid not making a backup or searching for programs to back it up before I went ahead and clicked update
It has HTC boot-loader 1.49 s-on but is rooted.
I am looking for clear(fix my evo for dummies) step by step instructions with correct installation for my model of phone, HTC EVO 3D Rogers GSM, or anything that could replace the os to get my phone to be useful again I'm currently using my backup phone a HTC G1 HTC ftw
Try kingcobra's rom, ota from rogers will not boot due to the fact that your phone is rooted, kingcobra's rom is based on rogers ota, flash it and leave it.

Go to the gsm development forum and download the RUU for the phone, and restore it to stock unrooted OS. Before you do that though, make sure that your phone's BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED. Look up how to re-lock your bootloader. After you relock your bootloader, you can proceed with restoring the phone.
Soooo.... basically, what I'm getting from this is, if you like having a locked bootloader, CWM and root, don't bother trying to install this OTA update because it's a headache. Agree?
The phone's not mine, it's my wife's, and she doesn't want anything special or like the idea of me messing around in her phone.
I was about to install this late last night, just about to hit that button, then I thought, "what about the bootloader? what about root? what about the fact that it's now unlocked and being used on a carrier other than Rogers?"

tampered hboot?!

how does this happen? solutions? im also not able to flash an ruu for some reason...stumped and have been working on this for an hour or so

Tampered is normal. Did you try flashing it with a ph98img, or as an .exe
It happens after you unlock and install a custom recovery I believe. Are you re-locked when you try to ruu?

Yeah make sure your bootloader is relocked
i was in the middle of doing s-off when the phone froze and corrupted the mem card...so i tried redoing the whole process over and i havent been able to get past the hboot...im still unlocked and have access to recovery and hboot but i cant flash a rom and boot into it...i cant run an ruu but the phone is not technically bricked...its an odd predicament...i just flashed a rom and i still cant get it to get past the hboot
Have you tried re-locking the bootloader and then run the ruu?

i was hesitant to do anything else aside from the things i mentioned incase i was unable to get those back...gonna let the phone recharge and try again later tonight...any ideas are welcome in the mean time...and ill go ahead and relock it and try later

just run the latest ruu in hboot if you are s-off it will make the phone like it was from factory.
if you are s-on but unlocked you will need to do the "fastboot oem lock" then runn the ruu.
in both cases the ruu will nuke the internal storage. first pass with install a new hboot and stock recovery along with 2 other items, then the phone will reboot into fastboot and install the rest. i recommend that you have a 60% or more battery life.

Yeah I already got it up n running...between being unlocked and having a slightly dead battery I wasn't even being given the option to run an ruu...its running now but I still need to do s-off again, and of course my sd card is corrupted so ill work on that tonight
The same thing happened to me, glad I found your thread! Were you trying to s-off on the official ICS? That's what I was trying. I ran the .12 RUU and had unlocked, rooted and was trying to get S-off. I did the wire trick I was getting an HTC logo instead of Jbear logo. Right now I just relocked and it's running the RUU so I hope I can get back up and running.
I guess I should have just S-offed before running the ICS RUU
Edit: I am back up and running!

Hey, I didn't have to do this, but if you noticed, controlbear makes backup copies of stuff like boot.img (forget what else) and puts them on your computer. If you crap out you ought to be able to fastboot flash boot [bootimgfilename.img] and be able to boot up your phone. I saw where one person did this to get going again after a failed soff.
Yeah well happened in my case is that I was already s-offed and then I flashed the ruu to go back to stock...then I relocked my phone cuz I'm having an issue with one of the pins on phone (the terminal that connects to battery).so I was gonna get it exchanged, I wanted it to look absolutely stock...so the "relocked" status wasn't good enough, so someone suggested doing s-off again so it will show locked in hboot...well that's where everything went wrong, the phone froze at the wire trick and then the entire memory card was corrupted which is normal...so when I went to redo the whole s-off procedure again I kept rebooting into the blank screen with the arrow...could not get past that, so I resorted to putting my real sd card in...I had no backups for that card cuz that one has my actual personal stuff so I figures it'd be ok since I used a spare to do s-off anyway...well upon powering on the phone it was also corrupted...so Ive actually given up on s-off and getting my phone restored and replaced for a while...I don't know why s-off has always given me problems I've watched and read every vid or post about s-off and am in no way tech illiterate but I've always had problems with s-off (i lost all my pics and documents the first time I did s-off even thought I backed everything up cuz the only way to get it right was to eliminate every file in the folder and rerun it again cuz it didn't back up my sd correctly If at all)...its beyond infuriating
well that didnt last long...i just unlocked and s-offed my phone again, only to be returned to s-on and fully locked (indistinguishable from brand new in box), as i originally intended...im gonna miss this particular phone but it has to be done

Bootloop city.

so my wife got a replacement evo being hers had a few. issues. came with 1.50 hboot. i did the downgrade method to 1.40 phone constantly reboots or bootloops at times. i figured well maybe was a firmware issue. so when sprints firmware leaked. i updated it all even bootloader. its now 1.58 hboot. shows locked but s-off. i still have 4ext recovery installed on it. i have tried to flash the stock rooted rom. the phone boots after sits idle for a litle while it will go into boot loops. im at my wits end here. thinking it maybe hardware now. want others opinions. before i flash stock non rooted and bring it in for service. any thought?
You could try to unroot and go back to stock to see if the bootloops stop.
Man i love FrootLoops.. oops.. crap, i read the title wrong..
ON a serious note, do what coal686 said, go back to factory stock and start from scratch. Take out as many of the variables as possible.
so how do you suggest i do that? there is no ruu for the new ota update. im on newhboot. so im lost as to how to attempt to relock to stock for service.
so i ran the pg86img for 2.17 everything down graded fine. then rat the ota update to ics. updated to ics 2.89 fine. weird thing is it still shows s-off. only thing so far sense has froze on her twice. but the reboots have stopped. waiting a day to make sure. then ill unlock if i need to.then stock rooted for her.

You don't need to unlock as s-off is better.

HTC Evo 3D HBOOT 1.58

Hi everyone!
Here is a situation.
I have two Evo 3D, both with same problem. They reboots after HTC logo.
It happened after OTA update to ICS 4.0.4.
All processess has passed fine until reboot.
So now i have two Evo with HBOOT 1.58, S-ON, UNLOCKED bootloader and bootloop.
Ready to listen any ideas or suggestions. Maybe someone know solution...?
P.S. I has try to flash device with PG86IMG.zip with different versions, 1.13, 2.17 and 2.89.
With 1.13 i get error. Firmware is older than installed in device, and get back me to menu.
With 2.17 after pass checking of zip file again i'm in main menu.
2.89 pass all checks and flash fine until reboot... then reboot forever (((
I think downgrade bootloader would help, but how?
Because here is a problem... i can't turn on device.
Thank you!
I just want to get this cleared. Did you say that your phone reboots in the middle of you flashing an ruu? It shouldn't be doing that in bootloader. Well in any case if what you are saying is true then your phone just became a very expensive paper weight. Your bootloader got corrupted when it rebooted during the flash. And your cannot turn on? Have you tried pulling the battery out and placing back in and seeing if you can get into bootloader? I don't know what you did but your phone should not been rebooting in bootloader or recovery mode. There was a guide that could've saved your phone but seeing how if you cannot turn it on in bootloader, there isn't anything anybody can do.
I hope you will have luck to get into bootloader because it will be sad to say EVO 3D died :/
But when the bootloader is coruppted then like JSparta says.....It will be just an expensive paper holder :/
Did u succeed?
