What are the development plans for CM7 and CM9 for the Nook Tablet?
(and yes, after searching through the NT forum first I was unable to find the answer to this question - please don't flame me if I missed it somehow)
I ask because my time is limited and I feel like I must choose one path for the sake of efficiency and expediency.
Therefore, if CM7 isn't going to progress past Alpha and is just going to get folded into the CM9 project then I would rather jump into CM9 Alpha sooner rather than later.
However, if CM7 is going to continue to progress (adding in Bluetooth support, FM support, further bug fixes and general stabilizing, etc.) then I'm going to stay on the CM7 "horse" and ride it until CM9 is equal in terms of stability and feature support.
And, as always, a thousand Thank You's to all you Rock Star developers who have saved us from the brain-damaged, "Android Lite for Techno-Dummies" that the Nook Tablet ships with stock!
(If I had more money and less bills you would ALL get donation after donation for all your hard work)
Based upon the posts I've seen on here as well as similarities with development on other devices I've seen on xda...I believe the cm7 alpha final is pretty much polished as much as it will be by the current devs and they are now attempting to focus on cm9 to get it just as polished if not more. Sure there will be other individuals that will put out their own roms/mods based upon the alpha cm7 that may or may not be better than the original cm7...but (and correct me if I'm wrong) the alpha final cm7 is one of if the last cm7 roms we will see put out. CM9 on the other hand while runs pretty good currently....still has quite a bit of work for every day to day use (in my opinion). It IS constantly getting worked on and more and more news from the 3.0 kernel to the current 2.6.x cm9 comes out everyday it seems. The biggest bit of advice if you're not a developer...patience. The devs here don't really make any substantial money doing this...this is a hobby for them. If you ARE a developer...help a fellow developer out! Share what information you gather...this isn't called xda developer...its xda developers!

There are two teams, one working on cm9 and one oncm7.
Of the two, thecm7 team is farther along and, personallyi expecta 'beta' version soon.bluetooth is a long way off because there is no key known to turn it on.
The other team, was farther along, but decided to update the kernal to 3 which is taking longer, in facti believe they are farther ahead than the kindle fire group,

I just had to post this question because whenever I go to the development thread its like christmas with all these roms. Now, it seems as though none is being worked on except for "workshed, tenzo, tazz" and some others. but roms like "xtrsense, tenzo xtrcmix, zenexp, energyexpress" nothing have been done for a couple of months.
I know its hard work and definitely appreciate all the work that goes into the building of these roms. I hope to see updates soon.
ROM developers are people too!
After a while they decide to get new phones, and they start doing dev work on those phones. Or maybe they lose interest in the whole scene. Some of them continue to do dev work even after they no longer own the phone (hip hip, hurrah!). Over time though, there are fewer of them because no new folks are buying the phone.
All things considered, it seems that ROM devs stick around when they get positive feedback and develop a community of internet friends; they don't seem to be here just for the coffee - but they probably wouldn't mind a beverage every so often!
Send your favorite ROM dev some love today!
I also think that the state of Eclair and Froyo are relatively stable these days. That said, Zach.xtr has promised a coming upgrade to xtrROM in that thread.
As for Froyo, I am guessing a lot of the energy of the CyanogenMod team are directed at Gingerbread, so here's hoping that there are some exciting new things coming in the next several weeks or months.
I have nothing but respect for the work the devs are doing for the benefit of us Eris users, and I'm so thankful to all of them that I'm not stuck with stock Eris right now.
I am thankful to that I am not stuck with a stock eris, not that anything is wrong with stock but being that I have my eris til June its nice to be able to enjoy it.
Well most of the dev's can't really do much after a point. Once a ROM is fully working... where do you go? Gotta wait for Google to release updates.
Trust me, when 2.3/30 are full released the forum will be very active again.
I see. Seems like everyone is stuck on the gingerbread thing. Its cool. I like my eris and now with all these phones coming out seems so tempting to move on. But, The stock eris was boring but thanks to launcher pro we can mod and change things. so its almost not necessary to root, but I love the roms with different UI's.
Lots of thanks goes out to these Devs for creating these roms that can run on the little Eris.
I was hoping "energyexpress" would be updated. but its ok.
[Discussion][Poll] Do you think we need "ROM Categories" for Gingerbread releases ?
Hi all, building upon a conversation started on this thread regarding the different Gingerbread ROMs that are being currently tested/released by our much appreciated developers, I'd like to start a discussion and poll to get your opinion about the need for "ROM Categories", that is, a small group (probably 3 or 4) of "Guidelines" so developers could focus their ROMs to target specific group of users or usage of the ROM, something like:
- Performance: Getting the most juice out of your phone and getting the best score for benchmarks, but perhaps with the sacrifice of stability and/or certain functions of the handset and battery life.
- Gamer: Focused on the best graphics and GPU performance for best results in games and graphics apps, but perhaps with the sacrifice of battery life.
- Stability: Stock-like ROMs that covers ALL the functions of the handset with the best battery life and stability, but with the added value of certain tweaks that gives you that "something extra" to justify rooting your phone and installing a custom ROM so you can enjoy those (I pretty much fall into this category)
(Those are just the few that comes to my mind, I think that if this proposal actually goes through the actual categories should be agreed on by the community)
I base this proposal on the following:
1.-) I've been testing many ROMs over the last few days and I've noticed that even though there's been many developers that have released custom ROMs over the last few months, only handful of them (those guys that we all know and love) have kept working on refining their work as the different Android versions had passed by, so at this point (with the official release of Gingerbread for the P500) I think it would be possible that developers could work together and focus their work with specific goals, like having a well polished ROM for each category and keep developing those. The idea is not to pretend that developers wouldn't have freedom to do their work exactly as they want to, essentially because they are doing this because they enjoy it, not because we're hiring them to do it. What I mean is that if developers "categorize" their ROMs then either themselves (or new developers) could easily spot what categories are being underdeveloped, and make the decision like "hey... nobody is doing anything for "X" category, so I'm going to do something about it". At this point they could agree to either work together for specific goals, or work individually knowing that one of them is working on fulfilling the need on a specific category.
2.-) As far as I can tell Gingerbread 2.3 is the last official version that LG is going to release for the P500 line, so I believe that once developers get to stabilize their custom versions of it (ROMs and Kernel) the P500 community will start to fade away as we all (developers and users) start to move on the newer handsets, so I guess that probably the best legacy that we can all leave for this community would be a handful of custom ROMs that we could keep using on our phones depending on the type of use that we give to it, until it's time to move on to another handset.
3.-) Having specific categories could help a lot when it comes to testing (and gathering results of those tests), essentially because most of us on the "user side" would surely focus their testing upon the way that they use their handsets, and that would translate on more people doing the testing for a handful of ROMs, instead of everyone testing everything (which usually translates into nobody testing anything).
Well I guess that's enough to make my point, the rest is up to you all to either vote and give some comments here or just say: "Hey n00b, what the #(=$/# your're talking about dude!!!" LOL, don't worry I can live with that
We should definitely have this.

Well actually we do have a thread like this. The repository sticky on dev subforum. It has all the roms, kernels, guides, mods etc sorted nicely with short and informative descriptions ( Repository ) and since ciaox started to maintain the thread it is always up to date with the latest stuff. If you got any suggestions or something for repository to become better you could just post it there.
I am looking for a custom HC or ICS ROM without Sense and a few other customizations. I posted a job in the Job Market but have't had anyone contact me yet. I used another ad as my template but have no idea what most of the qualifications that I listed even mean but I figured that they are relevant. (lol-I can follow directions to root and flash, but that's where it ends) I'm not sure what is possible in terms of my wish list, but we have to start somewhere. I just sourced 40 HTC Flyers and have my work cut out for me having these ready in the next couple of months.
The dev community for the flyer/view is small (but dedicated!) here. You might do better to either place a bounty on it, so others could help, or maybe contact the cyanogenmod team to see if a donation/support pledge would spark interest in a port of cm9.
I'd love to see cm9 on my view.
edit: I see there is a bounty thread here

If you want a ROM without Sense, DeSensified HC is the best solution for know (still some Sense elements but it's pretty clean), Chaosz-X, I and many others are trying to get an AOSP ICS working, but it will take time to get it stable. So until that dream comes true I recommend DeSensified HC.

I've used CM ROMS before and yes, they are always good quality and stable. This "bounty" thing that you speak of...first I've heard of it. I'll look into it. Thanks for the tips!

That is what I running right now and considering that the developer says it's his first ROM, I am impressed. It works very nicely so far. I did have a wifi repeated disconnect issue but was told by another user that it's a HC thing and not the ROM. It was suggested that I assign a static. Did that and seeing how it goes. On another note...I wasn't aware that offering $ for a ROM could possibly get me into some heat here so I edited my post. Someone clued me on that and I am grateful. It would suck big time to get banned from here. This place is such an awesome resource. Feeling "bafoonish". Anyway, I have a little more info than I had an hour ago, so thank you both for putting in your 2 cents!

We welcome you, the Flyer community is a small but supportive community, and you haven't to offer $ from ROM's but what you always can do is donate money to developers working on ROM's to keep motivating them to improve their ROM's or bringing AOSP ICS closer
Hi everyone! For those that do not know I have been spearheading the cyanogenMod nook color project. I am looking for information on the custom firmware being developed here, whether we are developing Android 4.1 builds and whatnot.
I would like to know if there is any github repos on the nook tablet being maintained, and how kernel development is going. Would also like to know if anyone has the TI OMAP 4 drivers, sound codec drivers for this device. Would like to start rallying up support on this device as I have found out B&N is getting ready to release an updated nook tablet for B&N. Would like to see some development go towards the cyano boot loader and moved out of alpha development.
I think this project would be a great project to get up and going developing kernels for, if its not being done already, and I will try to use my influence on getting a proper nook tablet forum started down in cyanogenMod and start putting some time in Q&A and helping first time modders in there. I think having a proper forum down there would really help kick start this project.
I am really interested in development for the nook tablet because of the fact it uses the OMAP 4 dual layer processor with an included microSD card slot. Looking to pick me up one real soon if I can get a forum down in cyanogenMod started, and I am really persistent and think I can do so with the administrators. Persistence pays off.
Its also about self fulfilling prophecies. If you know you can do so and put it in writing, it most likely will happen for you. Just takes time and persistence.
Thank you and lets get this thread started! Feel free to PM me also.
Posted some threads and personal emails down in the cyanogenMod forums. Make sure to follow up guys. I know the older and serious developers would rather develop and not post chit chat comments in the forums but you do need to promote you work some.
Also leave some comments in the nook color forums complaining about no nook tablet support at cyanogenmod.
/thread.
I would love to see some extended development for CM10, even getting CM9 more stable would be a blessing. Most of the CM9 ROMs out there are Kindle ports rather than ones compiled specifically for the Nook.
That said, I'm pretty happy with what we do have for CM10. I'm using it and it works great, but development isn't progressing as fast here as it has been for other devices.
I'm not sure how to answer your questions about the processor and kernel, as I'm not a developer myself (yet), and I don't know if there are any github repos set up yet.
Hey sounds like your really wanting to do this and I'm super happy to see you help out I've always wanted honeycomb lol. Just a suggestion I have 3 roms for the nook tablet if you want to look at my work well not mine I port but i maintain over 13 roms. Its hard if you need anything just shoot me a pm and if you wanna Gtalk that's cool too. I suggest you get the 16gb if you do get the nook tablet only because of the nook tablet 8gb doesn't have some compatible roms. I will be building from source soon

I have a 16GB NookTablet I don't use very often, I would be willing to sell. I've got the original cable, charger, and box. $100 (shipping included; US only).
Nook Tablet CM10
--Update--
SOLD.
It looks like the developer <Rebellos> has a link to his github repo work in this thread here guys. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480586&page=78
Yes, I would love to see this device take off with android builds. I will keep working on the cyanogenMod team and send them email once a week, will try to tweet cyanogen himself on twitter too. Do not want to spam too hard, lol or they might withhold development out of spite.
With that new B&N nook tablet coming out with them promoting that new touch screen that they are coming out with this 7 inch tablet might be the next big thing for those wanting maximum storage on a tab.
Going to start taking a look on some repos here in the next few weeks for this device.
whats up guys, sorry if this has been answered. im looking for a new rom to use on my rezound. i was hoping someone could point me in the direction of something like miui or similar, something completely different than sense, how ever stability is important to me. i am currently running business sense (sense 4), the latest build. the phone is not a dd i just play with it and use it at work for music and such, i do how ever sometimes use it for photos so the camera working is a must!! thank you!!
CyanogenMod 11 in original development is being regularly maintained. Also check out AICP in the standard Android development forum. Personally I keep going back to Tachyon 1.2 even though it is nearing a year in age I get best battery life and no heat...
There is no "best" ROM, only what is best for you. In fact, "best" ROM threads are not allowed on XDA, as it just causes arguments.
You are best off to try several and see what works best for you. I am under the impression that the camera issues are mostly taken care of, so just try some and see what you get. Omni and AICP would be current choices atm, until @IAmTheOneTheyCallNeo finally releases the next Tachyon version.
