This seems to be a problem that all galaxy phones are plagued with. Thought I would bring it to the attention of the people here to see if anyone can figure out some sort of solution.
Here's a description of the issue:
When the phone is mounted in the OEM car dock with a 3.5mm aux out to the cars stereo, no call audio can be heard. Call audio only comes through the phones speakers, making it very difficult to hear the conversation. No matter what settings you have, this can not be changed.

Does your car radio have Blue Tooth?
That is how I got around the issue.
I dont use the car dock but do have the headphone cable attached to my head unit and the call audio comes through my speakers. Not sure if that helps....

Hi all,
As my car doesn't have a CD player (don't laugh) but has a tape drive I bought a sony cassette adapter with a 3.5 mm out put jack in order to use my HTC touch HD to play music through the car's speaker system. This works very well indeed. An added bonus was that when driving along and someone rang me, the music stopped and the phone rang, I andwered it and was surprised to hear the caller very clearly through the car's speaker sysytem. Here's the problem though the caller could bearly hear me at the other end and commented that it sounded like I was underwater. Now I have thought about how I might resolve this by adding the supplied HTC headset into the equation, purely from the microphone point of view and not putting in the ear piece if that makes sense. The obvious barrier here is that there is only one 3.5mm output on the HTC and wondered that if I bought an adapter that effectively allowed two 3.5mm inputs to share the single output on the HTC I might resolve the issue.
Any advice would be welcome.

I recently purchased the official Samsung Active Holder for my SGS2. Nicely routed the charging cable, then bought a kit to hook up the aux-out of the SGS2-charger to my radio. NICE! Music from my SGS2 through my radio while in the charger! Navigation-instructions as well!
Problem: Voicecalls still play through the phone-speaker :-( (can't hear a damn thing of what the other is saying when going 150 eehrmz 100 Km/h)
Searched somehwat, and several people reported this for several phones, however it seems the problems/solutions are phone-specific as well.
Does anyone know how to get the phonecalls routed through the AUX-out of the charger as well, just like all other audio of the phone?
Does your car have Bluetooth? If so then pair your phone, use bt for voice calls and aux for the rest.
Not sure if Bluetooth affects what happens through aux though...

Unfortunately: No. Used a special box to emulate a cd-charger on my old Renault Tunerlist radio, to get a double tulip in... Bluetooth was just one leap too far ;-)
Ah, I guess I'm just too spoiled with my car's A2DP streaming audio

Or something like that. Pair your phone, slap it on your visor and use that for calls.
That one's just an example, there's a huge selection of these bluetooth car speakers.
I have the official Samsung cardock, and connected it to my car radio (the cardock has a 3.5mm jack output). Nice, now I can listen to the music on my phone over my carspeakers!
BUT:
Whenever I make or receive a call, the sound of the conversation keeps channeling through the phone's own external speaker. Disabling the phone's external speaker (either during the call or beforehand) does not fix it. It just néver get's through the 3.5mm jack output to my car stereo. Annoying, since my car is pretty loud when speeding.
[Q]How to channel the audio of a voicecall to the jack-output? Does anybody know of a fix for this? I have looked around-and-around-and-around, and have asked this before. Just can't believe I'm the only-one that is bothered by this!

I have a std aux input into my car stereo. Plugging a stereo 3.5 lead from the phone jack into the stereo aux I can listen to all sounds from the phone over all car speakers including calls... Just like when a headset is connected. Calls go over car speakers and phone mic picks up voice.
It would seem then that its the official samsung dock being treated different to a simple direct lead connection.
My only gripe is during calls the phones mic works but thinks its on a std call and is a bit weak. Wish I could force the mic into speakerphone mode or the levels associated with that mode anyway. Btw... Turning on speakerphone while lead is connected stops the output over the speakers.
I have a trrs mic / stereo splitter adapter and a seperate car 3.5 mic but again the mic levels on the phone in headset mode need boosting.

Hmm... So maybe if I use a splitter to merge the signal from both the cardock AND the phonejack...

Just note I do not 'need' the splitter to make it work. Without a splitter it works just fine using car speakers and the phones mic (as the aux lead is std audio lead only - not including the third ring position for the mic).
I just got the splitter to use a seperate external mic in the car. The splitter simply has all 3 rings to make phone think its a full headset connected like the set that comes in the box with the phone and splits audio and mic into 2 seperate connections. This way I then take the std aux lead from the audio split to the stereo for listening over the car speakers and use the mic split for plugging in any std 3.5 external mic.

I understood that, it's just that I would probably need a splitter in my specific situation, since all my music gets played through the cardock by default as soon as I plug in the phone... It's possible to disable this automatic switch of audiorouting when the phone get's plugged in though, but somehow it just doesn't feel right to NOT use the audio-out feature of the cardock
Hi there. On my previous Galaxy S I simply had a holder for my car (no electronics) and used the phone's hands free capability whenever I wanted to speak to someone. It was fairly quiet though especially when driving around.
Now that I have a Galaxy S3 with an unlimited data plan I've started using Google Music for my music (instead of my iPod) through the headphone socket into the car stereo. This works fantastically!! I'm also able to get navigation instructions through there too. But when I try to speak to somebody (and I can hear them through the car stereo which is what I wanted), they can barely hear me, unless I pull the headphone jack out of the phone. At which point obviously I go back to using the phone's too-quiet speakerphone.
Is there anyway to have the phone's audio out through the headphone socket and have the mic work? Or maybe get an external mic somehow?
I've also recently bought an Infuse car dock as it's been reported that the S3 fits this perfectly. This provides usb charging and audio out through the dock, however it seems that it's for music/nav only... calls can't be routed through.
Any ways around this? How do you guys do your hands free in the car?

i have kind of the same issue....i got teh infuse dock and i have bluetooth handsfree in the car...seems i cant get the audio through the dock while connected to the bluetooth...and if i have it only on the dock sound the mic because it sits when the phone connects to the dock it muffles the sound pickup from us....be great if there was some way to have it all calls through bluetooth and music through the dock!!!
but dont know if thats possible...
also i downloaded "dock sound redirector" which puts calls&Music through the dock DarrenCarnall. if that helps you at all.

I have similar problem.
Phone audio connected to hands free car system and media audio connected to the car radio using a2dp to aux converter.
When i use (stream) the media audio output (internet radio or navigation instructions) the hands free connection drops.
This means, hands free disconnection occurs when streaming music or voice trough the audio media output.
Before i had the HTC one x and there was no problem.

Has anyone noticed terrible noise when using an S3 docking system or cable to output both Audio and Charging?
- extreme hiss and random noise, machine processor noise, crackle etc. (only if charger is plugged in as well)
- after 2 seconds of no sound, you can hear what resembles to be an AUDIO gate...that kicks in and mutes the noise until you trigger your next button sound.
- Even if you listen to a song, and think it doesn't happen while listening to a song...IT'S still there...fighting the song and causing degradation in Audio quality.
- not too mention, phone calls will NOT route through the USB jack, and music and navigation type stuff.
- if you unplug the charger, the sound cleans right up and sounds fine. It's the combination of having the audio and charging outputs all in one.
- ground loop isolators do not help
I have a background as an audio technician and some electronics skills and I did hours of testing and modding...unfortunately! All failed. I own an Ibolt car cradle (which I did most of my testing with), a KiDiGi desktop docking cradle, and I even hand made a cable that could trigger docking mode. All three of these scenarios FAILED with the NOISE factor.
I have resigned to thinking it is a hardware design bug with the S3. I have modified my Ibolt so that it sends out audio from an extra cable that plugs into the Headphone Jack...which as a bonus, as sends Dialer audio.
(I just realized that this is the i9300 thread, and I have a i747m but maybe this thread could help all the same)
I've had three S3's and used USB audio out to my car stereo via 3.5mm. None ever generated any additional noise.

Eddie...can you confirm these points:
1) You have a usb cable or dock that comes out the bottom of your S3, and it splits into USB for charging....and 3.5mm for audio? (NOT THE HEADPHONE OUT)
Is it a cable or dock and would you mind tell me the name of it?
2) What do you plug the audio into?
- stock car audio input
- front aux input on a car deck stereo system (stock/aftermarket)
- rear aux inputs to aftermarket stereo
- other?
3) with the steareo turned up fairly loud, but no music playing, do you hear any noise when you click buttons (assuming you have audio enabled for button clicks in Android settings) When pausing between loud music, do you hear any white noise, machine noise, hiss etc.?
4) What is your S3 model? (i9300?) and what OS version.

I've used the Samsung Infuse and also iBolt docks. Both have the split USB cable for charging & 3.mm audio.

I don't remember any noise when clicking buttons?
But we're talking about AUX input which is analog, so when you turn the volume up with no music playing, you'll always hear some "soft" occasional clicks & hiss.

AT&T GS3 with various ICS ROM's. I don't use AUX anymore because my favorite ROM (AOKP) doesn't have audio out capability when docked.

Thanks for replying Eddie. I am so sick of this troubleshooting this crap sometimes. I am very happy with the S3. It is a giant leap forward from my HD2...in most ways...but not all. I am suspecting the USB audio out on my S3 has a defect.
Right now, in the car, I have resigned to using the USB for power and the Headphone jack for audio send to the AUX input of my Sony car stereo on a custom wired Ibolt docking cradle. I still get some PROCESSOR noise when pressing the buttons but it is about 5% of the intensity of using the stock wired Ibolt, or KiDiGi desktop dock...or my hand wired Ycable. Without the USB charging wired up, there is NO NOISE whatsoever with either method.
Digital Output
Reading many threads last night, I discovered that with some roms/kernels, it is also possible to output pure DIGITAL audio from the S3 USB port into a select number of little affordable boutique like amps which decode and amplify the audio and power spkrs and headphones.
My first S3 had some weird noise when using bluetooth. So I drove over to my local corporate AT&T store and let them know. They walked out to my car with a demo S3 and we tested it and it didn't have any noise at all. So they swapped out my phone for a new one and I've been happy ever since.
Maybe you could try that?
Regarding boutique amps... this guy in one of my threads was talking about that. I didn't understand half of what he said.

Yup that's it. There are a few examples on youtube. Interesting how it's this TRADE SECRET feature. I mean, I have not seen this advertised anywhere and the places on the net where I found examples....the guys talk about it as if it's this common well known feature. Apparently, next to having one of these setups, the Iphone4 has the the best rating for sound/volume/curve output...almost neck to neck with a dedicated DAC...I think they call it!
I bet if I spent another $100+ bucks for one of these amps, and ran it in my car through a power Inverter (12v to 110v inverter), that I could run the Digital signal out without the interference of my USB analogue out issue. But, I am past that now.

Arkanius...are you saying...
1) You had the same terrible noise when charging in a car.... with usb audio analogue into aux input of car stereo?
2) and that you hooked up a DAC to resolve the car noise issue? If yes, would you mind sharing the DAC model with us and the cable used?
Although I may be digging up an old thread, it may be worth looking into (Currently majoring in Electrical Engineering and having completed two signal analysis classes).
themadproducer, were you able to get a spectrum output of the noise? If it just a set of static frequencies, a cascading array of notch filters may work out
EDIT: reading your mention of the USB charging, its quite possible that if the voltage converter is of cheap quality, the transistors involved in the voltage conversion from 12.0-14.0 Volts DC down to ~5.0 Volts DC may be giving off Radio Frequency noise, with the noise being picked by the audio cable due to physical proximity, akin to cross-talking in network cables ( a form of mutual inductance)
