Updating Atrix 3G to Gingerbread Questions - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently acquired a motorla atrix 3g (Dominican Republic), the phone is currently at android version 2.2.2 and I would like to upgrade to Gingerbread but when I try to find updates from the phone it points that the phone is up to date, this is since the carrier (Claro Dominicana) has not yet released GB for this phone. I would like to know the best method to do upgrade to GB preferably without rooting the device.

Unlock the bootloader, get a recovery, flash a rom

[Q] how to update vibrant to 2.2, which is unloacked and being used in india?????

i recently bought a vibrant from my American friend, its unlocked as i can use my indian carrier for calls... but my kies says unsupported phone, and i want to update it to 2.2 foryo.... plz help
Vibrant does not have an official froyo that's why kies says that.
We have some Froyo ROMs on the development section but I believe they lock your phone again. I am not certain about this but I would double check.

[Q] AT&T vs Bell hardware

I ordered via AmazonWireless's "Replacement Phone" option to get one to Australia and received is about 1.5 months ago and its been okay so far.
I'm on Telstra (Australia) which primarily uses 850MHz (UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+).
As there has been leaked Telstra ROM, I'm wondering if there is actually anything different between the devices other than the ROM, and if so, if I can flash the SBF from the Telstra/Bell devices onto my Atrix without causing issues.

After reading some of these threads it seems that the Telstra SBF is incompatible with the AT&T atrix. After my own experience with flashing this to the Bell Atrix, I've come to the conclusion that there seems to be an American version of the Atrix as well as an international version. This is because the Atrix can either be recognized as NS Olympus or SE Olympus through RSD Lite. Since my Atrix, as well as other who have successfully flashed theirs with the Telstra SBF have the SE version, it seems that this may be the only one compatible with the Australian firmware.
If you ordered your phone through Amazon, it is likely that you have the NS version. You can verify by downloading RSD Lite, plugging in your phone while in RSD mode and seeing what shows up on your computer.

[Q] Atrix 4G Stock 4.5.91 ---> Gingerblur

Hi, I just bought a Motorola Atrix 4g , and presume that it will be shipping with the newest stock update. I have been searching everywhere on how to do this, but can't find anything, fit specifically to my needs. I need directions on how to put my unmodded brand new Motorola Atrix 4G with stock update 4.5.91 to the latest update of Gingerblur. Thanks, I'm new to the forums, but I understand technical stuff.

Will an update sim-lock my phone?

Hello, the thing is that I have a Motorola Atrix 4G from Claro, Nicaragua with Froyo. Claro doesn't have released the official GB update. So I was wondering, is there any other way to update to GB? The phone is locked, I just can used with Claro network, and I don't want to pay to unlock it. Will a custom rom totally lock the phone?
Thank you!
Generally It shoud not .
update
Hi there, i agree the update should not simlock your phone to a specific network again, i have a Desire Hd that was originally on the Orange uk network, i currently use the vodafone uk network and have a had at least 12 different custom roms each having completely wiped the phone before install. hope this helps.

[Q] AT&T Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update for a X10 Unlocked By AT&T

My friend had the an unfortunate but common experience with his X10.
Its an at&r version, and he finally got the 2.1 update only to see "X10 gets gingerbread" plastered all over every android news site. After calling at&t and Sony Ericson, and after being transferred to manager and manager, they emailed him instructions on how to "unlock" his phone to get the gingerbread update.
In the instructions, it tells him that he needs a sim from another carrier. The problem is, in our area, only at&t and Verizon are prevalent. From my old Nokia days, I thought an unlock code was an unlock code. You unlocked the code and then were free to use it on any sim supported carrier with a device with compatible frequencies. I've never actually heard of an unlock that required an alternative sim to complete the unlock process. Nor have I heard of a phone that after it was unlocked, would receive an update.
Is this true? If it is, we have no chance at doing this the legit way. Which method of root, and which ROM would give us the easiest time, and the closest to stock experience. He isn't necessarily the techiest, but loves Sony. Were not necessarily looking for the most features, but would greatly appreciate if he could upgrade to gingerbread.
I'm not an expert by any means, but I have rooted, flashed, and installed ICS and customs rooms on my Transformer mainly using Clockwork Recovery. I've also rooted, flashed a custom over clock kernel, and pushed modified files over ADB on my AT&T Galaxy Note, released a mere fees days ago. This should give you an idea of our experience level.
There are dozens of Roms and sites with tutorials, but they're all convoluted and don't take into account the presence of other methods and rom to explain why their's is better. They also don't tell us when they're outdated.
So, to the point, and to sum it all up: does this sum unlock allow for a blessed OTA update? If we actually need another carriers sim, were out of luck. In that case, which method and rom would be easiest to root, and then flash. Is a from like cyanogenmod (seemingly the go to for handsets) available? I don't have a Rosetta stone for X10 roms , recoveries, and root methods.
Thanks very much.
At&t has no plans on releasing 2.3 I have no idea what an unlock code has to do with an update.
I upgraded my att stock x10 2.1 to 2.3 without a problem. I flashed using the North American 2.3 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733 You'll have to look at all the pages to find a working download.
I also got the flash tool from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
If you need a guide on flashing your phone look at this thread
