Right
..a phone with 600 MHz processor and 168 MB RAM gets official cm9 support but not ours...
But we have unofficial which is going great

Seriously . Sony Ericsson does support external development .

uhm, yeah, Samsung is open to external development, and sent 5 galaxy S phones to Cyanogen to make the mods for the phone, it is just their focus is their high-end products but I dont have anything to say about their support on boght phones.

Who dafuq is president of samsung? Why can't he be more open minded sheesh. And anyway, I think coolya did not want to do it since he said it would really be a pain porting it especially camera, like maclaw's team right now

If I remember correctly, then it was Samsung who sent new Galaxy S models to the developers of CM in order to speed up the process of releasing CM to it. And it was Samsung who hired the head developer of CM. Plus when you compare it to HTC for example, then modding and flashing custom ROMs on a Sammy is much much easier.

I've rooted lots of different phones and i've got say that samsungs are the easiest and ODIN is a very nice tool in case something goes wrong. The worst phones for rooting seem to be huawei's. I spent 5 hours on trying to root a u8800 and failed (2.2 was easy but 2.3.5 latest was impossible to me, tried all the root tools and even manually but zergrush would not apply). Rooting a samsung takes what... 5 minutes if you're lazy (gingerbread). Even motorola xoom takes 10 minutes from stock HC to fully functional custom ICS.

In specs the ace is better. In reality iphone is smother, maybe not faster but smother. The wifi on the iphone is shockingly slow. But what you you really need to consider is do you want open source or not. You can jailbreak an iphone but its not great, you'll never get the same as android. Iphone is for showing off, ace is for funtion. I have both and use my ace. Every now and then i boot the iphone for games, but thats getting less and less.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
The 3gs has ARM V7 which makes it faster really.
But in terms of operating system android is for the adventurous.
My girlfriend has the 3GS and is always complaining about the lack of functions compared to my Ace.
Since she had a HTC Magic before, she knows of what Android is capable and is always saying that iOS runs smooth, but is for idiots.
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
ace wins hands down......iphone 3 has no chance heres proof http://www.compare-cellphones.org/Samsung-Galaxy-Ace-vs-Apple-iPhone-3GS..
and as for iphone 4s then if you have an updated ace like 2.3.4 or 2.3.7 then the ace also easily beats the iphone 4s(ps my friend had a 4s but after i updated my ace he was so humiliated he went and bough a galaxy s2 just to compete with me lol)
...and the winner is.. tanrararan..

Hmm, yes, the options you get with this open os are great! But,someone said it already, the iPhone is for dummies, anyone can get it and use it without lots of action.
The Ace came with stock Rom and yes, it was useable but not really rocking. You have to read and learn till you get what most of us here have now ... a rockin Ace
But that's not Samsung's work,it's the work of the great Developers on this OS.

that's good news...it means that samsung is considering ACE a strong card...that also means that is doing well sales wise... that means that as long as ACE is a good player in mobile business then developers will continue messing with the phone... that means official cyanogen and maybe one day ICS on our ACE!!!!
in the UK the ace is quite popular and they have sold quite a bit especially on three. Its Samsungs highest selling mid range device

I've had mine since Sept. I cannot understand why they are so popular. Low ram, low Res screen, low onboard memory. It will struggle badly for firmware updates and 95% won't get official CM9 or ICS. I bought a ZTE Crescent today. Much cheaper at £99 and already find it much better. ICS being worked on and phone has only been out here two weeks.

And Sense is 100x bloatware, it is not in any way faster than SGA, our stock bloaty firmware is much lighter than HTC Sense
And not to mention the battery on that phone is much lower than SGA

[Q] beginner android phone, galaxy ace or wildfire s, or another one?

hey guys,
i'm currently doing some research for the 14 y/o brother of a friend, whose parents have just allowed him to get a smart phone.
i only ever bought nexus devices and would recommend him the nexus s, but unfortunately his limit is ~180 euro and the nexus s is ~270 euro here in germany. thus i need some advice.
he can't decide between the galaxy ace and the wildfire s. which one would you pick? i'm looking for things like easily unlockable bootloader, stock android and cyanogenmod support. but those things seem to only be found in older, cheaper devices.
what would you say has the best bang of the buck and is future proof and could possibly get cyanogenmod support?
thanks,
x
I would go for the galaxy ace because it has more development.
Sent from my HTC_A510c using xda premium
yup, that's my observation so far. there's even an unofficial cm7 port for it.
until i can come up w/ an official supported device in the price class, i'm gonna tell him to go for the ace, or if possible pay 100 bucks more for the nexus s.
Yeh galaxy ace if you want to root it, wildfire s has not been cracked open yet so has very little support

I would go with ace.
However i found only one issue where you will need to remove the battery to get it back to work. When you enable the wifi and leave the phone idle for a long time, the screen goes blank and none of the button seems to work. You will have to pull the battery to fix it.

S2 is old yet much mor superior for me than others. Note may have higher clock and better resolution but it's just too bulky. The HTC One X didn't put much of a good fight either. It's stuck with almost the same level in my eyes as the GNexus since they have no SDCard support which is really a must for me. As for the Iphone4s it's good and all but it is apple and I despise apple cause theyre closed source and everything needs to be paid and it's really expensive. So yeah SII is good.
yeah about the OP, I have the same question (or at least I think so) Im planning to buy an SII here on the US directly from sammy so its unlocked, I'm wondering if I can put my sim card for the philippines. IMO It will work since my sister's phone bought from the phils worked with a telus sim card. I dont know the case for SII though

I'd want to take it everywhere with me, and yet would feel very uncomfortable about it being in my pockets. I'd have to always think about having a jacket or something to put it in, and then constantly worry about it falling out or getting crushed. I like to at least have the illusion that I am 'free' of my phone....sometimes.

It would be the end for android or maybe not yet since Apple items are expensive
The flipping lawyers would all be flocking to the poor-house or more likely sueing apple to put a stop to such restraint of there lucrative trade.

Why Sony phone with same hardware will have ICS?

Sony ST21i reportedly rocks Android 4.0.3 ICS and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset with a single-core Snapdragon CPU clocked at 800 MHz and an Adreno 200 GPU - just like the one found in the Xperia X10 mini, X8, Galaxy Ace and others.
The Sony ST21i display is a 3.2-incher LCD of HVGA (320 x 480) resolution, but lacks the BRAVIA engine. A 3 MP camera that does VGA video recording is supposed to sit on the back of the compact droid.
There's no info on the pricing and availability of the smartphone just yet.
