I'm not real sure what your wanting, but you may be barking up the wrong tree. A theme is simply a collection of visual setting changed to match. Depending if your running a custom rom or not (assuming you are if you flashed a theme), you can change this, but I doubt very seriously that you will much or any performance gains. What we could do is start by discussing your issues and possibly recommend changes to help you get things moving smoother.
Make a list of files changed in theme, and replace them with the ones from original ROM.
if you have a nandroid from before you themed--you should--just restore it--
It's not your theme that's spring down your phone. Look for other issues.

I want to un theme as well. Not for performance reasons, just cause I'm bored of it and want the old look again atleast my app icons, I like the rest of the theme. I did not do anything special before installing this theme on Saurom ROM so no Nandroid. How can I get back to stock theme??? I have looked everywhere and no luck getting any useful info.
Making a theme revert instructions:
Take the ROM zip, and the theme zip on your pc. Make a copy of the theme and rename it revert(or whatever you want)
Now, open both the ROM and your newly made zip with 7zip
put the windows side by side
Ignoring the "meta-INF" folder go into each folder of the revert til you get to the apks, doing the same with ROM zip, til your open to the same place.
take all the apks that match the ones in revert from the ROM and drag and drop them into the revert... Thus overwriting the ones in the revert presently.
Do this for each folder with apks in it(again not touching the meta-INF folder)
After that's done just close it up and transfer t0 phone and flash in recovery.
Thanks so much man, I'll give that a try. I'd like to leave everything the same except the app icons. I really like the rest of it as is. Thanks again!

just do i use my recovery image to install a theme? like rename theme to update.zip, power on holding home and end, click update.zip....
so im pretty sure about that but...
my rom/radio will still be there untouched right?
like this will only replace the image files or w/e is needed to make a theme?
thanks a bunch!
edit*
unlocked hero, modac. 2.9, not the permanent recovery image!
There are 2 ways to flash an image. When you go into recovery and choose "Flash update image" you will probably have 2 options.
1. Apply sdcard: update.zip
2. Apply sdcard: choose zip
Method 1. Move zip file unchanged to SD card and choose 2nd option then browse for the correct zip file.
Method 2. rename image file to update.zip , upload to your SD card and choose option 1
It doesn't affect your rom/radio etc.
Always best to do a nandriod backup before installing a theme, so that if you decide you don't like it or it doesn't run smoothly you can then do a nandriod restore which will put everything back to the way it was before you installed the theme.
thank you very much!

i beg to differ. the rom is affected, as parts of the rom are exchanged with the parts modified to create the theme.
basically the images that are used to create the gui are altered and then repacked. if you extract a theme update file you will find several apk's of system apps inside, extract these and you will eventually find the images.
usually to create a theme the original app from the rom is used and only the images are altered, not the application code, so it won't make any difference for the functionality, but it leads to themes being tied to one version of a rom, and working only with that rom version.
thanks, yea i wasnt sure if i clicked update.zip, if it would erase the whole rom, and only put the alteered stuff on... leaving me without a functional rom
ahah but now i get that it only erases the parts being added!
thanks

That's basically what I meant about functionality and images
if either of you know anything about creating themes could you check over into the dev section and answer my questions?

Beyond my knowledge. But if I was to do a theme I would download a theme and have a look at all the image files and work from there
and your a genious.. lol it looks like someone who knows what there doing put together an apk with all the images, so all i gotta do is edit the colours.. then update it like the person who updated that theme did! thank youu
Ok, I'm going around in circles trying to find out if I can theme a rom. I've done themes, icons, UI (just the images, not the xml's or codes) I would love to create my own theme for a rom, but how does it work?
I wanted to create a rom but its difficult when you're not a code person. but I am good with photoshop. Can somebody tell me how to start a theme. There are so many good ones for other phones and I would love to create a nice one for the Eris.
what i would do is grab one of the themes that are available and take it apart and see how it was done, but best of luck man,
I personally have not made any themes but i do like to tweak things where i can, and that would be a step i take to figure something out.

thanks. I wanted to theme like the phone dialer, calculator, and maybe the drop down screen. Is that possible?
You can theme phone, kb, notification panel, etc...anything really
To theme the "system" stuff you need to modify framework-res.apk (can be found in /system/framework)
To theme anything else you just need to modify the .apk files, i.e. to theme the phone dialer you need to modify phone.apk and contacts.apk
To theme anything you will need to change the file extension to .zip (.apk changed to .zip) and then extract the file so that you can explore what is inside. Most image and xml files are stored in /res/drawable-mdpi
Once you have modified .png and xml files you will need to zip the file and then sign it so that it can be used on android. There are a number of tools for signing .apk files, just google it.
Hope this helps a little...
First and foremost, before installing this ZIP through Tenfar's recovery, you MUST have GingerBlur v4 already installed!
GingerBlur files/instructions can be found HERE!
* Please DO NOT ask for assistance with rooting or installing GingerBlur in this thread, follow the link above and ask there!
**THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED BY ME (ON MY OWN HANDSET) USING GINGERBLUR v4 (4.1.83 based)**
This theme is a compilation of graphics both original by me and from MANY other themes including:

ShadowFrost
URBaN
ProDX Red
Criskelo ROM for I9000

[EDIT] Running this with GingerBlur 4.5 - working great with NO issues..
Nice work man!! This looks great!!
Thanks! I JUST finished updating the OP with install instructions and I also attached a RAR file with the dock/icons to use if you wanted to make LauncherPro look just like it does in the screenshots.
Also, while I like red and/or blue themes, my wife likes purple so I'll probably be working on a GrapeBlur theme next.
If anyone tries pushing these files to a release other than 4.1.57 (such as Adeo or Gingerblur based on 4.1.52) I would be interested to know the results!
Looks great sir, thanks for the work.
Looks great man, thanks for putting this together. One question though, is it posible to make a blue theme as I love blue!
Thanks for great work! One question though, any errors during the deodexing process?

I had one error, I think it was on PhotoEditor.apk and PhotoEditor.odex. I've seen or used a built-in photo editor so I just removed those then restarted the deodex process for apps and it completed successfully.
just tried deodexing and yes, getting the same errors from the two apks as well. Ok thanks for the heads up will try again
Successfully applied the theme!
Found 1 bug. The clock in notification bar is black in mine instead of white. Any idea why?
This might be a nobrainer but, if I change the icon files inside the apk and then push it to my phone will it still work? In this way will I be able to make my own 4.1.57 themes?
hey.. i am sorry to ask this how am i suppose to install the grapeblur and the launcherpro.. i have no idea .. i am soo sorry to ask such a dum question.. but this is my first time with an android
okay I may be kinda slow how do I make use of the launcherpro files?
hey how would you install cherryblur in the first place.. i have my phone deodexed and all but having trouble knowing how to install cherryblur...
Beautiful theme and I love battery icon... what clock app are you using?

You added a few icons to the /drawable-hdpi directory. Do you actually use them via the xml files, or are they just remains of whatever framework-res.apk you used?

yes
just get framework-res.apk, back it up, open it with winrar.
drag and drop the files, of the same name, that you would like to replace into the open winrar window. choose normal and 'add and replace', then close the window to save. replace the one in system/framework with your modified version.
Be sure to set the priviledges correctly after you copy into system/framework.
They should match the original, full read and user write.
Thats how I made this.
Edit: Every time I replace the framework-res.apk I lose my google, twitter, and facebook accounts. Anyone know why, all I'm doing is replacing images.

oh nice!
Yea I did the same. Just used 7zip instead of crappy winrar. Didn't check for permissions though, I'll do that tomorrow.

That is Beautiful Widgets in the Android Market. I forgot the name of the actual skin I'm using with it though, I'll reply to your PM later this morning.

The instructions are on the first page, but you need to be at least somewhat familiar with adb.

When you long press on any of the icons in the dockbar of LauncherPro you should see an option to change the icon. You need to have the icons/dock I attached saved to your sdcard ahead of time so you can choose "custom" for the icon and select the graphic you want to use.
For the dock you go to Menu -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Dock Background
* Pretty sure that's correct, but my phone is in on the charger in my bedroom where my wife is sleeping so I don't want to accidentally wake her up.
Ive Noticed that the DX2 Has number of atrix ports and a couple of roms.. Any how i would love some more support than CM7 for the photon. I know we only have a handful of wonderful devs for the photon and they can only concentrate on so much at once.
I am wanting really bad to contribute..Can some one show me where to brush up on my skills I am wanting to attempt to Dev. I know IT HAS BEEN ASKED i just want to go to the right places...Just seems like there is not enough interest in the photon in general.. I have all the free time in the world right now...
Id like to thank all the wonderful Devs in the photon forum and for making CM7 boot!! Some good ISH!! i cant wait!!
If you want to make a custom, stock-based ROM, it is fairly easy. A number of us on the forums just think that it is not very necessary to have so many ROMs when there is little-to-no changes between them.
Anyhow, the basic gist is like this:
Find some app/theme you want to include into a ROM. Extract the ROM (.zip), and then place those files into their respective folders. Generally, themes are in framework-res.apk files and go in /system/framework. Apps usually go into /system/app. Keep in mind if you want to port a theme, you will have to resize the images and rename them (usually), which involved extracting the .apk, modifying the necessary files, and then pushing them back into an unextracted copy of the .apk (to deal with signing issues). When you are done with your modifications to the ROM, highlight/select all of the folders and files (usually META-INF, system, boot.img), and compress them into a zip archive. Bam, new ROM made.

Thanks BRO!!!! And Thank you for all your hours and dedication you have put fourth with school and all!! I would not of held on to my Photon If it weren't for you!! Honestly!!!
If you guys want I could upload my recent creation.
Its yays deodexed rom with the alien theme embedded in. I can't seem to get the blur launcher to work though and I could slim it down. Remove ringtones notifications and apps if ya'll want...its nothing special just themed no special tweaks.
Don't think you can add tweeks without unlocking the BL...

Hello,
I own a ZTE Crescent- Rooted/CWM recovery running CM7.
I was messing around with using CM9 and I like it but it isn't up for the kind of usage I'd like to use it for so I went back to CM7. One thing I really liked about CM9 was the pattern lock dots- On ICS they are a lot thinner and look slicker, whilst on GB they are thick and bulky and I dislike them.
So my question is; Would it be possible to flash a zip in CWM to change the pattern lock dots on my device? Or any other method?
Thanks,
Curtis.
It's certainly possible. You need to edit framework-res.apk. Within the apk, the images you want to edit I think are in /res/drawable-hdpi/(possibly in other drawable-XXXX folders as well). You need to edit/replace the following files I believe:
btn_code_lock_default.png
btn_code_lock_touched.png
indicator_code_lock_drag_direction_green_up.png
indicator_code_lock_drag_direction_red_up.png
indicator_code_lock_point_area_default.png
indicator_code_lock_point_area_green.png
indicator_code_lock_point_area_red.png
Not completely sure, you might be able to do it fairly easily with UOT Kitchen: http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/ (I can't check now as the kitchen is full, so I'm not sure if it supports theming the unlock pattern or not). If not, you can use apktool to unpack the APK, then edit the images you want changed, then repack it with apktool.
The other option is to use MetaMorph. It's an app you install on your phone for theming. Then download a lock pattern theme like this one: http://droidpirate.com/2011/01/15/metamorph-lock-pattern-liberty/, unzip it and replace the images inside with your own, then re-zip and use MetaMorph to install it. (Probably simpler than using apktool to manually edit the APK).
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!
I've gone with the metamorph option, seems much easier to do and I've used it once or twice in the past so I have a general idea on how to use it!
Thanks again
I couldn't find a theme for what I wanted- None even came close for Metamorph, so I decided to try and make my own. Unfortunately; I'm now stuck.
I copied the files you mentioned from the CM9 rom to the CM7 framework apk. I have the original CM7 framework app with the new icons in and a zip version of the framework with the files also in there. Now what should I do?
If anyone with more experience wants to take over then here are the files.
APK:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5IQUxhoTn2XVVJiek01OGRNek0
ZIP:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5IQUxhoTn2XWnRGVDhIdzRsa0k
I'd say the easiest way is to grab the metamorph theme I linked above, unzip it and replace the images inside with the ones you took from CM9. Then zip it back up and install using metamorph.
Trying it now, phone has just rebooted, time to check lock screen.
Edit-
Nothing has changed.
Hmm. I have no idea then, sorry.
