^I'm guessing you tried that. Either you did or you are about as lazy as me ;D
Do it at your own risk. I've soft bricked several phones and hard bricked a Galaxy S, but its worth it to me.
I also see you say you have a "ROM Version". I have yet to install a rom that wasn't rooted.
i think he applied a stock update. in germany the sensation was released with android 2.3.2
@trekdrop: if you are able to read german i have used this howto:
http://www.brutzelstube.de/2010/htc-desire-rooten-grundlagen/
its for desire but i think you are able to adapt it for your needs...
jep i am lazy...
but not this time i am looking all over the net.
and i found something i think its my ROM version
it only came out in Holland (i think) and thats the problem

Hi all!
I am new to the HTC Hero. I want to root the phone, but I dont know which tutorial is the correct one.
I got my phone like 3 weeks ago with the buildnumber: 2.73.405.5 FW: 1.5 (last update from HTC i guess) android 1.6 I guess
Now there is a tutorial which seems to me, like it is too old and I cannot use it anymore.
I am just afraid that I am using an old tutorial where I could damage the phone or the bootloader or whatever.
Could you help me decide which one is the correct one?
Thank you already!
I used this method
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/
It worked like a charm. It mentions in there that if you have 2.73.xxx or above, you need to downgrade, but with 2.73.405, you should be good. My phone was something like 2.73.665 when I got it, and I downgraded to 2.73.405 (THIS procedure was a chore and took me hours to get it right) but from that point on it was easy as pie.
Hi all,
this my first time writing on the xda forums though I visit it often. I came across a chunghwa Taiwan ROM for the HTC hero. My question is can this be used in Singapore. I am a HTC hero user in Singapore. Or should I wait for the OTA update to be launched locally.
Thx to all in advance.
you should read :

Well, thanks for that help. But, I currently do not want to root my hero coz its still under warranty ( may sound lame sorry). I am taling about an official ROM that I found on the xda forums. The prob is that its for taiwan and i do not know if it is safe for me to do here in Singapore. Will cause any compatibility issue.
Ps: I am planning to root in november wen my warranty ends.
Thx
If you ever wish to root, DO NOT INSTALL THE TAIWAN UPDATE.
DO NOT INSTALL ANY 2.1 OFFICIAL UPDATE FROM HTC
[/shout]
Basically, if you do, your plans for rooting in November will be spoiled, as once you install it, you can't root
im from singapore too... trust me just root it... wasting time for waiting officially update in sg is hell zzz... i usually using this 2 rom i most prefer is sense hero *speed, stable & theme* by stickman or villainrom *speed, stable & OTA* from team villain. this 2 is most best recommanded foc rom. as for register memeber for modaco rom *speed+, stable+ & support* using online kitchen also would be prefer. ( i no $$ to register T.T ) <<my personal opinion>>
Does that mean that I can no longer root my phone if i get 2.1? Is there like any security patch that comes together 2.1? Thanks for the info guys. I guess I will just root it. but Is there any issues related to privacy or security risks related to rooted ROMs?
Thx
You can make a goldcard for your phone, then root it. That way you can revert it to its original state for any warranty repairs.
Also, atleast here in norway, if there is a hardware warranty issue they have to fix it, even if its rooted, provided its not a direct result of rooting (Battery drain / overclocking).
Hi guys,
ao which rooted ROM do u guys think is the best for My HTC hero. Will there be any privacy or security related lapses in rooted ROMs? I have heard of VIllainRom. Is that the best possible?
Well, I can't exactly say I'm impartial, but if you are after live help etc. then villainRom may suit you with the irc channel. As for security, I am just as confident with it as I am with HTC stock ROM. I use it myself, as do many thousands of people.
If you are after villain, you can find most stuff either here or at www.villainrom.co.uk
But half the fun is to play with different ROMs and pick what suits you
Nandroid and enjoy
Hi all
I have recently bought myself a HTC Hero / T-Mobile G2 which I have been wanting to get for ages, I bought it from Ebay and it came with Firmware version 2.1-update 1 which I understand is Froyo?
Anyhow I was wondering if someone might be kind enough to point me in the right direction of how to root my phone, I have tried searching but the amount of entries are overwhelming and to be honest I am not sure where to start. My ultimate goal is to have it rooted and then have the ability to have apps installed to the memory card...
Also once rooted what is the best 2.1 rom to flash the phone with?
Thanks for any help in advance, it is very much appreciated!
Kris
Android 2.1 isn't Froyo - Froyo is android 2.2.
Check out this software universal androot and use that. Though there isn't a documented guide (that i know of).
My sig has a newbie guide which might work on 2.1 (unconfirmed) which you could try. If not you need to wait for http://villainrom.co.uk/ to bring back their 2.1 root guide and use that.
Thank you for your help
I am now on VillainROM 12 and am loving it!
Thanks once again...
Just so you (and others) know. I've now updated my guide to be super quick and it uses Universal Androot now too. Finally a documented method to root which uses this program.
I decoded my phone two days ago, but it wasn't through an IMEI calculator, the guy used a VBOX or something, the idea is that he told me that I can't change my rom, which sucks. I just want to know if that's true, or the guy just didn't had the mood to explain things to me. I searched the net, but I couldn't find an answer and I don't want to risk it, because the bloody thing cost me .
Kernel vs is 2.6.32.9
Android is 2.2 vs. V10C-oct 2010.
If you guys could help me with some info, it would be great.
Well...I don't know what the guy used or why did he tell you that u can't change your rom ...
but, since, you have 2.2, I bet you can root it , install custom recovery and then flash a custom rom over your current one...in fact, I'm quite sure of it
Give it a try...you won't regret it...at least I didn't
EDIT: Oh wait....10C is 2.2.1 which is unrootable ( uptill now )...
So, your only option is to downgrade it to 2.2 ( v10B ... I think ) via KDZ tool and then root it.
I see, so there's no danger of "re-locking" my phone then? .
And one more thing, because this phone is kind of new (my first android) I got to ask (I'm sure I can find some posts around here somewhere and I will search, but I just need to know what to look for first ), Is there anyway that I can back-up my current rom? (just in case things go south)
Well
As far as I understand things, the only way you could reactivate the network lock would be by undoing whatever that guy did.
That could happen if the unlock method he used implies modifications in the ROM area of the phone, but if this would be the case, unlocking would be so easy, just by using an LG official ROM update and so rewriting that portion of the code.
But I think that the network lock might be in the Radio ROM.
So maybe you are safe to upgrade/downgrade main ROM of your phone, but for safety you should not update the Radio ROM?
Anyone else has ideeas?
Also, this kind of supports my theory: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711750
Don't know of any locks .... (currently using optimus one)
But...try downgrading with official LG Rom using KDZ tool and then IF it locks up ask your friend ( who unlocked it before ) to do so again ... maybe it'll work but, no promises.

Thanks a lot guys, it worked, I downgraded to 2.2 and rooted it. The phone is still unlocked, no problems, he probably rewrote the radio and (I assume) he just didn't bother explaining .
Much appreciated.
I've been reading forums and searching forums all day, but can't seem to find a definitive answer to whether I'll be able to root my specific version of tablet or not, there's so many different types, build numbers, UK versions/US versions my head is close to blowing! Any advice would be soo much appreciated.
I bought a tablet off Ebay, a GT-7510 (US version I think, although I live in the UK) which came with Honeycomb installed. I then updated OTA to ICS 4.0.4, but it seems pretty laggy in general compared to the other Galaxy tabs I've seen, now I'm at the point where I'd like to root it and try some custom roms to see if they're any better than the stock ICS rom.
Here is the info for my tab which I think is relevant:-
Android Version 4.0.4
Kernel version 3.1.10
Build number IMM76D.UELPL
I've found so many different methods of how to root certain variations, but can't be certain if one of them applies to my tablet, whether I'd have to flash it back to Honeycomb, whether it only works for UK or US versions etc etc, that I've given up searching and thought I'd start my own post, and hope that somebody could tell me whether I can definitely root my device, and which would be the best method to do it? I have no warranty on my device as it's a refurb, so rooting doesn't bother me, but I'm worried about using the wrong method and bricking it.
Really hope somebody can help me, thanks very much in advance for any advice.

For the P7510, rooting it is dead easy - just download a recovery and flash it using ODIN. See the rooting guides here. Honeycomb doesn't complicate things at all.
Thanks k1mu, when you say honeycomb doesn't complicate it at all, some of the guides I've read specify that they're for honeycomb installations only, I have the stock ICS rom which was installed OTA, is Android version not an issue anymore, and the guides will work no matter which version you have installed? Also, my tablet is a GT-7510, not a P7510, not sure what the difference is, if any? Sorry if I seem dumb, just want to be sure before I go ahead.
Thanks very much for your help.
Just to update for anybody searching who is as confused as I was, I got root access using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029664 from user Jovimon.
