"Screw you guys! I'm going home"
I believe this sentence should express what I'm feeling right now.

Some creative facepalms around. But nothing for a lose-7-3-at-home-to-Nottingham-goddamn-Forest. Not enough hands.
OP - there isn't a best ROM, and there are no short cuts. Read, flash, try, repeat as necessary.

I wanted to know which ROM are u using and do u enjoy it. I don't know which should I use cause it's so many of them and I don't know all ROM's features. If u aren't gonna help u can rape your neighbour's dog and if i'm so annoying and it's so hard to help a guy who don't know much about android. If u want to bully just do what I mentioned in previous sentence.

Well, im not going to act like a douche like some people, so here is my thoughts on which of the current rom's are rocking.
Im currently using Lightning 2.1, LitePro is now back and it is rock-solid in stability, for me at least. Its very blue-ish on the theeming, quite light and zippy. It doesn't have any super-duper fancy tweaks or features but it really doesn't need it.
Funnily enough, when this rom was based on gingerbread, before the creator temporarily left, it was my first actual custom rom and i really enjoyed it then as well.
I had just tried Batista's Snake Rom, ICS-build, it was stable and had some nice visuals, it also seemed responsive enough, but the latest updates have caused an increase in bugs. So i went back to lightning rom.
I had tried the miui rom before, and personally i didnt like it, its a bit too flashy.
I have also tried UltraToxic Rom, which was an unoffical extension of lightning rom back at Gingerbread, and was reasonably good, it was just like lightning.
In my opinion, i would recommend LitePro's Lightning Rom, its not too far from stock, its fast, zippy and damn stable. It looks nice as well, its not Over-Done, which is good. The battery life is also pretty decent.

My neighbour has a cat. And not a very sexy one either.
EVERYONE didn't know much about android once. Read the stickies and FAQs. Check my sig. It's there to help people like you.
I'm on SLIMROM. See my sig. I like it. You should try CheckROM, very noob friendly. I think you'll like it. And then, as said, read and try.

I can understand that you wish for peoples opinions but it is an extremely repeated question and there is a heck of a lot of roms out there.
Language like that isn't appropriate either and doesn't do you any favours, anyway, hope my opinion above helps.

Problem is simple. No one knows your taste. No one knows if you prefer touchwiz, roms like cyanogenmod, or even pure ICS. Even if we all had the same taste, one rom that works greatly on one phone may not work as greatly on another phone. Only way to know the best rom for your phone is to try them all and see how it goes.

Thanks to people who told me what I need.

Facepalm indeed. But if you are asking for a opinion, not a definition of the best ROM, I would strongly recommend Slim ICS if you want AOSP experience, for Samsung ROMs, wait the new version of Sensation ROM by Crysis21, because I tried every other and they are garbage

Wow, I hope you guys can help me, I'm a noob and want to change my ringtone to "What is the sound of one hand clapping.mp3" I used to have "A tree falls in the forest and no one is there.mp3" but I couldn't always hear it. Can anyone who has tried it tell me what the former sounds like? Can it be heard over the voices in my head?
Thanks!

every rom is different depend on what you looking for. All the chefs have their own strength and weakness. The most popular roms are RRE and Energy Roms but that don't mean they are suitable for you. So try it out yourself and find out which rom works out for you.

No, no you misunderstood. "The forest for the trees.tsk" is a theme, not a ringtone. I used to have that but I preferred "Through the past darkly.tsk" and "Blinder because I choose not to see.tsk."

Dude, you're getting the right answer from mutantblack, that is - there is no right answer. You do have to try them and figure it out for yourself. I've tried several and each has something I like (and something I don't), so I couldn't answer which one is "BEST" for me, much less for you.
double post, sorry, i´m also a newbie.
I think i´ll go to the beach, enjoy the sun, and see wich one´s better, maybe i´ll have an epifany.
Are we really having the "you will have to see which one is best for you" conversation again? I am surprised this thread has not been closed...at least people went for humor instead of flaming the poor poster. Who is going to start the "remember we were all noobs" conversation in this thread?
P.S. "A tree falls in the forest and no one is there.mp3" is not a good ring tone...I keep missing calls!
---to the poster...start reading...it took me about 2 weeks of solid reading to get my mind wrapped around the XDA experience. If you read enough most if not all of your questions will be answered.
XDA, like all forums, list their threads by last updated. So the more popular roms will usually always be on the front page. There are a handful of awesome dedicated chefs that crank out updates every few days. There are also a handful of decent chefs that post their rom when they find a good one.
Personally I would start out with a FULLY loaded ROM (like EnergyROM) and use it for a week. Then move to a barebones ROM such as Da_G's variants and use his for a week.
By then you'll know what you features and apps you really miss so you can find a rom that more suits your needs.
The goal is to have everything you want but nothing you don't. You'll never find a rom that is perfect, even if you make it yourself. I've gotten really close a few times but then something bigger and better comes along.
This is why flashing your phone is like crack.

Screw-ups, Updates, Reviews
I'm actually an Eris user, a friend of mine just got a Fascinate and I'm trying to help him get started, the Eris thread has a post along these lines and it really helps with keeping track of what options there are. I have no intention of actively maintaining or monitoring this... that being said, if I've mis-credited anyone, if you do not want your ROM listed here, or if you do and it's not, feel free to PM me and I'll correct the issue. Also, not to overstep my bounds, but I would love it if a Moderator could well, hijack this.
There seems to be some interest in end user reviews of ROMs. So I threw a poll up to see what kind of spread there is in the usage (cred Fappy Jones). I ask that if you do vote, leave a review of your experience and why you chose the ROM you did, even if its just because its the first and only you've used. Please though NO FLAMING, critiquing is one thing, but be respectful about it, a lot of time and heart is invested in these ROMs.
I think this was needed, great job. Would be great if it was maintained and stickied.
I will post this on our forums. .. good work.
Posted from my Galaxy S Fascinate. Visit us at ModADroid.com.
Awesome man this was very needed, this should for sure be stickied.

It would be cool if someone could do a review of each basically stating basically the pros/cons of each one or just what makes it unique from the others.

Thats a great idea!! especially since im debating which one i want!
Well from experience with both Deodexed and JT's Rom's they're both really good. So it's tough to say which is the best there, but i'm currently on JT's. Only because i'm debating on going back to a Voodoo kernel.
But yeah a survey or poll of which Rom user's like/use the most would be a great idea.
I am on black hole right now, was on the Zinc for a long time. Right now all pretty close, all matters on theme you prefer I think.
Black hole does not show verizon in market, not sure about Zinc, didn't pay attention.
Coming from a D1 user and constantly pushing new Roms, I would love to see devs getting their own sections like droidforums does, so easy to follow devs that way. Not meant to offend by that statement.

Then post some screen shots, end users are the testers for custom ROMs. You're using Super Clean and want screen shots from other ROMs, there's probably someone who is using another ROM that wants a review of or screen shots from Super Clean.
What are you using to install? I use Rom Manager. When I downloaded Super Clean it gave me some theme options, one of whitch was "Revolution w/circle battery." Running it right now. Love the circle battery with percent aswell.

You know, I generally try every ROM out there, as a gesture of respect to the time the developers put in. I'm too lazy to make my own, so I respect how long and realize the effort that goes into creating a decent ROM. However the name alone is enough to put me off this ROM as CrippleB also stated. It's not a particularly decent name.
Now. As a developer placing his ROMs up for public consumption you are either going to have to learn to live with criticism and learn FROM criticism, or you're going to be a very angry person.
He wasn't saying, 'Jesus this ROM sucks. It's horrible! You're an idiot!'. he (as am I) was saying, 'I don't want to run a ROM with the word 'douche' in the name. Perhaps you should rethink your naming.'
YOU evidently took that as 'hating' and 'flaming'...which it wasn't. You seriously need to adjust your attitude and control your temper if you're going to put up public ROMs. Based on your attitude towards criticism alone I won't be trying your ROM. Other people may feel it's ok to be pissed on for making a tactful comment, but I don't.
Good luck with it.
That makes sense I guess. I can see how it can be offensive to the right people.
The fact is that the name refers to a slang term for well you know douchebags.
The name has nothing to do with menstrual cycles therefore it shouldn't offend anyone
I guess if you aren't familiar with the slang term it could be offensive in a way.
Either way the name Will stay the same. If it does have issues here no worries.
There are plenty of other places people can find it.

[Q] LG P500 Stock Apps and Widgets and How can i OC?

Hey everyone!
I flashed CM7 on my P500 stock 2.3.3! Had a few problems with GSM but at the second try i found a solution!
So now im ready to mess around a bit with my phone
And what i wanted to know is, since CM7 doesnt come with stock widgets (Messaging and many more) does this forum has a thread about this stock widgets? Im not worried about stuff like Market (already have a way to get that!), but i would really like to have those widgets from stock ROM (more concerned about the messaging widget!).
And the other thing is OC! Yeah, i wanted to know the advantages and disadvantages of doing it, how to do it, and with what i should be careful when doing it! Hopefully someone replies and helps!
Btw im sorry for all this questions but im not really an expert around here and im just trying to learn bit by bit!
So Thank you very much in advance for all the help you might give! Been here for less than a month and been loving all the help everyone has giving! Great people over here!
PS: I searched for the stock Widgets for P500 and didnt found anything but i believe you guys can come up with something!

I don't think there is any notable disadvantage to overclocking. I suppose the phone is draining the battery a little faster when in use. But aside from that, I can't think of any reason not to do it. The phone is just going to crash or reboot if clocked too high. I'd say start with an overclock of 729 or 748, test for stability, and go up or down to the next step after you've determined if it is stable at your starting point. Games, benchmark/stress tests and the camera app could all provoke a crash if the phone is unstable. Don't tick the "set on boot" option in CM7 until you're satisfied that you have a stable overclock.
I don't know how to answer your other question. Are you asking about apps or widgets? AFAIK, the stock messaging app was included with my CM7 ROM. You can see it listed here (mms.apk) as one of the stock apps. I just needed to install gapps (Google Apps), and I had all of the basic, stock apps that you would expect the phone to have. I don't know what "stock widgets" would refer to.
Well you answered my question about the overclocking! I was concerned that it would overheat my phone and could burn a circuit or w/e! but if it just shutsdown then thats awesome! Would advice me an app to do that? Is No frills CPU a good app to overclock?(the one terratrix adviced) Probably gona check out some videos or threads to see with which values i can start with or which ones are the best for my phone!
About the other question, i was talking about widgets! the app thing i got it done (installed gapps for market and stuff like that). But what i was talking about is this particular widget

So if anyone could help me getting this on my phone would appreciate all the effort!
These things barely get warm -- like around 30 C. I really don't think that overclocking them does any harm at all. CM7 includes settings for overclocking, as terratrix mentioned, and that is all that I've ever used.
Maybe someone with a stock ROM can help you with that widget. I couldn't find it anywhere. Of course, there are also messaging widgets in the Market. FWIW, I also found this.
So the OC doubts are solved!
But is there a way to get that widget on my phone? i have my 2.3.3 stock ROM backep up, just saying in case it helps! Would be great if someone could help me with this!
Thank you very much all that helped
Try using Titanium backup to backup the stuff you want from your 2.3.3 stock rom and restore them again when you re-flash cyanogen. And yeah there really is no harm to over-clocking (I mean, you're not going to use your phone for 5 years are you?)
Great idea but i think its not necessary to flash my stock ROM again! i can probably just flash the widgets i need or am i wrong?

[Q] Differences in types of Roms.

Can someone tell me the differences in the various types of roms for ics. like the stock ics rom , cm7 ics rom , cm9 ics rom and miui ics rom. and also which one is better and best
CM9 ics is smoothest but fm radio, video recording or hdmi isnt working. Stock is not that smooth but everything is working, also miui is based on stock (i think) so not that smooth but working everything, you could try new aosp 4.0.4 wich is not based on stock or cm9, aosp 4.0.4 haves everything working but hdmi and fm radio, but its smooth as cm9
Ah man, not another the best/better rom thread....
Basic difference is based on stock or based on custom code, cm9 for example. Which means, some of roms will run on locked bootloaders, and some of them will only work with custom kernels which require unlocked bootloader.
All those info are written in each rom's first(few) post(s).
Now to explain why I wrote that in first part of my post. There is no best and better rom, it's up to personal experience. Some rom's can be faster, but with no extra options, so as you can see, someone will go for faster, someone will go for extra options.
Go and read and try, find what's best for you.

i am as off now using Ka18which is based on stock havnt gone to ka 19 since it has many issues and just waiting for that to b resolved. but i wanted to know if its the best or not.
like i am more into customization and looks . i would prefer something where i can customize and at the same time i want it to be smooth and not hang in between.
in ka18 the net is too slow for me all the time. while all work well.
fm radio is not imp to me and hdmi also is ok as long as it doesnt decrease the quality of the display in phone. so would u suggest using cm9 or aosp 4.0.4 and which rom do you suggest

ya i know there were many posts before but i was never properly satisfied with all answers there and all that i read. i have so far only tried the based on stock roms. looked in cm9 and all but many times let it go cos data is not working in many and thats something very imp for me. i dont mind the rom not having ne extra options as that can be added. as of now the kernel also i use is night elf rc3 which seems to be fine even though i have issues with data and wifi disconnection often. based on speed which would u suggest?
I think it would be beneficial to be able to read a list of some of the more popular ROMs and some of the highlights from each one. Does anyone know if there is such a compiled list?
I would love to have the ability to over/under clock and a little more customization would be great too. So I've decide I will root my SGS3, just not sure with what ROMs yet. I realize that the best way is to probably try a lot out, but with my job I don't have a lot of time to do so.
I also had some question as well. Can you use TacTiles to set the cpu speeds (under/over clocking)? I would love to have it set to under clock when I get to the office since I don't use it much there and would love some extra battery life during the day. Are there certain ROMs you can do this with, or will any work?

Not that I recommend flashing roms for Galaxy S3, seriously why would you do that?

I've been using MIUI V4 (V6 Supercharged) with alliance kernel mod and found it to be very smooth without overclocking.... And yeah everything is working fine(oh! there was a bug in compass... but little bit of searching gave me the fix in the same thread).

Because I don't like Touch Wiz, that's why. And I would love some more customization and better battery life. I came from Blackberry which had tons of custominzation options stock. Now I have to download a dozen apps to get that much customization. A little bit annoying, but for the most part I'm liking the rest of the android features and def the speed.
OP, two things:
1) The best way to get an understanding of any ROM is to flash it and try it and see if it works for you. Everyone is going to have a different opinion and no matter how much reading you do on it, it is not going to replicate the actual experience of using it first hand.
2) DO NOT SPAM THESE FORUMS WITH ONE WORD/ICON POSTS
Thank you,
