[Q] Copying FLAC files to phone - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Loving my Xperia S but one niggle I was hoping someone could assist with (new to Android too).
My music is all FLAC and I am using PowerAmp to play these files on the phone. I'm manually copying the files to the internal memory using Windows 7 explorer and when I copy these FLAC files I get the warning below:
"Your device might not be able to play of view this file"
I can tell it to copy anyway but I suspect that this is also the reason why I can't various software packages to sync FLAC files to the device either.
Is there any way to tell Windows (or the Phone) that it is compatible with FLAC files?

If you are syncing, it's better to convert the file format to the compatible ones. If you are just copy pasting, then it shouldn't have issue.

holy ****, i posted in the wrong thread

I want to sync as FLAC rather than transcoding

FLAC and Sola
Can the phone play FLAC using the default player or do I have to use an external player?

Just skip it. Sometimes Windows says this even if the phone/device has native support of the codec

CyanogenMod supports FLAC out of the box. If you want to play FLAC files on stock firmware, then I'd recommend JetAudio player (there is free, ad supported version on Play Store). Also in this case, ignore the "Your device might not be able to play of view this file" warning

Use sd card mounter for Xperia t,look for it on the forum. You will be able to mount as a normal mass storage device, not a mtp,so no restrictions about copying some files. Btw, I play my flacs on poweramp too,on my Xperia u.

How to play mp3 and movie files with windows media 8.5?

Hi
I wonder if anyone can tell me... how to play mp3 files and movie files say avi , mpg etc with the new windows media 8.5? I don't seem to be able to use the xda to play a simple mp3 file after I use activesync to transfer the file into the xda. It may a be simple software problem or do I need special codecs for these files to be played?
Sorry if it is a silly question.
Cheers
Hi, if you have the pocket pc 2002, and windows media player 8.5, you should be able to play mp3 files without any issue.
Try downloading a small mp3 file from the net to check. sometimes, if you dont have an SD card, and only a limited memory, and you try and copy a large mp3 to your xda, it cuts off half way when you run out of storage memory. This leaves your file corrupted, and hence you cant play it.
Close all your running apps. Adjust your memory settings, to increase storage area. Choose an mp3 file that is much smaller than available space (eg. ringtone from some website) and copy that to your xda.
Thanks
Hi
Thanks very much for your reply. Thot nobody is interested to answer a silly question like that. Indeed I think the mp3 file I tried to play is corrupted. Got windows media player to play other smaller mp3 files after your advice. However, can windows media player play mpg files at all? Always seem to get message that the movie file cannot be played.
Thanks again.

Hi
cant remember if media player 8.5 can play mpgs. However if you install pocket divx player, you should be able to play most file formats. Ofcourse it wont play all mpgs, or all avis, it depends on the codecs used, however common ones, especially divx are playable.

Just to let you know, Media player 8.5 can't play mpeg.
PocketTV is another alternative.
movie file size
HI
Thanks for info. Installed both pocket tv and divx and both are great. Only thing is size of movie files are too big. I have tried using VirtualDub to play around with movie compression but still hasn't found the optimal size to reduce a movie to be sensible for use in pdas. What is the screen size and how else besides the screen size can one use to reduce movie file size?
Cheers
Some good guides here:

Hi
In virtual dub, you need to ensure that you are specifying a codec for video compression AND audio compression.By default virtualdub does not compress the audio, hence the file tends to be quite large.
You may want to install some more audio codecs to give you a better compression. Try installing the WMA codecs, or get Windows Media player 9 on your system.
WMA codes
Hi
Thanks for replies. I have Windows Media 9 on my system; how to use it to get the audio compression with Virtual Dub?
Cheers
Vic
in the audio menu on virtuadub, you need to select Full Processing Mode. Then the compression option will become selectable. You can then pick an audio codec. Be aware not all audio codecs will be available on your xda. Use Windows Media Audio codecs, have a look at:

If you can share the file I can take a look at it and tell you what might be going on. MP4 files USUALLY container AAC audio, but not always. There are a few esoteric audio types that can reside in an MP4 container that may not play with the stock player.
You can also try an alternative player, like Rockplayer for instance....
I dunno how to Share the file
I'll try the player you mentioned

MP4 wont play from SD card
Ever since i rooted my Samsung Vibrant T959, I am unable to play MP4 video files from the SD card. If I move the file to the internal storage it plays just fine. I have a 32gb SD card and would rather save the phone memory for my APPS. Any suggestions? I have tried the original root (android 2.1) not sure what the official name for it is, CM7, and currently I am running Bionix v.1.3.1. I have tried multiple MP4 files. I backed up my entire DVD library so i have multiple MP4 to choose from. I have tried about 15 different movies so far. The only videos i can play now are certain AVI files. Is there anything i can do? I have tried RockPlayer, MoboPlayer, Tried to Drag and Drop, and I have tried to use Double Twist. Files will show up in my browser, but when i select them it says unsupported file type.
MX player. If MX doesn't work for you then you phone is having issues with such a large exsd.
thank you for getting back to me... I just tried to download MX Player and it does not give me the unsupported file type message, but now it just says unable to play file. I have a 16gb card i got with my HTC HD2 (also rooted and running android) that is just floating around my house somewhere, i may try to put that card in my vibrant and see if I get any better results. Thank you again though.

FLAC Support?

I highly doubt there is, but I was wondering since root has been achieved, if FLAC support can be possible or does the ROM have to be recompiled to support it? I know 3.1+ supports it natively, but since the bootloader is still locked at the moment...
I use poweramp to listen to flac formatted music on my phone running GB. So you could give it a try on the NT and see if it works.
i use power amp on my nook color running stock 1.2 fw rooted... so power amp should work for flac files on the nook tablet.
I know poweramp works and plays the FLAC files, but I'm wondering if it recognizes FLAC as a music file. From what I remember when I had an Inspire 4g, android won't recognize it (unless it's cyanogenmod) so you don't see it in the music library from android or poweramp (unless it changed and they made their own library reading function/database).

Use the folder view instead of library in PowerAmp.
All my flac files show up in poweramp library. They are sitting in a folder on my sd card called Music.
there is also an app on the marketplace called extended media scanner. the latest power amp also can read FLAC via its library, independent of the Android OS.
I am using power amp on the nook color, with flac. one piece of advice i have for using the older version. put the flac files on your SD card rather than the EMMC

[Q] problem transferring music

I had this problem with my S2 as well; I connect my phone with usb debugging checked and copy paste all my music from the music folder on my PC to the music folder on my SD card.
I keep getting the error, " sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file"
Is there anyway to fix this or am I doing something wrong? The music is in mp3 format.
Can somebody please help me out? Thanks
Usb Debugging has nothing to do with normal file transfer.
What type of file extension are you trying to copy? Normal mp3 or some less common and/or proprietary format such as aac, flac, wma, ...

they are all MP3 format
Try copying your files to the phone throug Airdroid or another file transfer app.
Alternatively if you're rooted, you can use the Easy UMS app to mount your external sdcard on the computer.

I am rooted, where would I find the easy ums app? For now i will try using airdroid
So i copied and pasted my music to the sd card. Now when i try to play files, some work and some still give the same error message. Also when I click on a song, it automatically starts shuffling through the list but only stays on each song for a second. Im stumped!
I tried Isyncr and Isyncr wifi, both did not work. It shows that it has transferred 500 files but when I go to the music, theres only about 25 files there. The Isyncr process took about 25 minutes and it showed every song that was copied. But when i looked in the music and syncr folder, there were only about 25 songs, I dont understand why the rest were not copied????
It's to do with the media scanner not running. Download rescan media from market and run it and then give it a minute and try going back to music again and they should work. I don't know if there is a bug in the firmware but it's annoying.

Yes, I have exactly the same problems for a few of my mp3 files.
I maybe due to some permission issue with the files? Strangely, I can play
all the problematic mp3s directly from the file explorer but not from the player
or any other media players including winamp, real, BS Player etc.
Anyone got a solution for this?
Do the mp3 files have the same properties regarding bitrate...maybe it cannot play files with 320kbps or more or files vith VBR(varibile bit rate)

Well, no, they are all either 128k or 192k.
I also converted some flv files to mp3 with Real converter, the player also cannot play these converted mp3.

Some MP3 can't play Live with Walkman

I have some issue with MP3 files. I copied some music albums to my Live with Walkman SD card. But when i try to play it with Walkman media player, it display files are corrupted. I disconnect my phone from the PC after all the files copied. Also i can play these files on my PC Windows media player and VLC player. ( I mount SD card and I directly play these files) Are there any way to fix this issue?
Have you tried it with any other third party app in your phone? Or again copy the files to your sd card, it might be really corrupted.

check in file properties what the sampling frequency is. I remember it used to be a problem in my good old W810 if it wasn't 44100 Hz.
