So a few days ago my galaxy s2 shut it self off and wouldn't start again. Wouldn't charge the battery, just sat there with the empty battery symbol. I by passed the battery and directly wired a cut usb cord onto the battery terminals. It worked! But now wont boot past the "Samsung Galaxy s2" white on black logo screen. I have reflashed the PDF, PHONE, and CSC though odin with 10 different files I found around these forms and across the internet. Nothing made any difference and it still sticks on the logo screen. Anything else I could try before sending it away? :/
Also I never installed any custom ROM or firmware on it, it was totally stock. I am also with Bell in Canada if that helps.
If you've already tried flashing stock firmware via Odin, probably not. Does it successfully flash in Odin, I.E do you get the green pass box & the phone auto reboot ? If not, copy/paste (or type) the details from the 'message' section in Odin when it's doing the flash here.
Yep every time I have done it it has said passed and my phone has restarted.
I followed this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458,
And did everything including flashing the bootloader, except using the .pit and re-partitioning because I'm afraid I will hard brick it, but it still had the same result. Won't boot past logo and wont go into recovery only download.
Why did you flash the bootloader ? You don't normally do that save for very specific situations.
OK. So you followed that guide using files from Samfirmware. I have absolutely no idea about files from that site or how they work/what to do with them as I've flashed anything from that site & doubt I would.
Given you can still get into download mode, only thing I can suggest is to download a stock rom from Intratech's thread from here & flash in PDA section of Odin if links work, if not, download stock firmware for your carrier/country with the PC version of Checkfus & flash that in the PDA section of Odin. In both cases, only one file and no mucking around.
I flashed the bootloader because that very official looking guide told me to lol
"Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!
You deserve some cake afterwards, and some rest
Now, if your problem is the NAND rw coruption, and wasn't fixed by the above fix, then follow these steps :
5) Download the Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
6) Successful? Nice, hope is still present.
7) Flash the recovery package, following steps 1-4 This should fix your issue. If it does not, then :
WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues
I hope that this guide was helpful, and if it was, hit the thanks button! "
Because my phone did not get bricked by trying to use custom ROM I feel its different then everyone else's problems here. Maybe its a bad app, is there a way to hard wipe my phone from where I am? Thanks very much for responding btw.
Guides don't necessarily work the way they're supposed to is all I'll say.
No, your problem is not different to every other case like this we see here maybe 20 times a week. A bad flash/not being able to get into recovery/can get into download mode is a bad flash/not being able to get into recovery/can get into download mod.
You're not going to wipe it without getting into recovery. You could try and flash a rooted kernel that has recovery (CFRoot ?), but frankly best advice I can give you is to do what I suggested in my last post.
You're welcome
Ok I got check fus and found the firmware for my phone. I'l try using it to flash in ODIN but it does't seem like it will be any different then the other 10 firmwares I have tried
When you flash it, make sure you're plugged into a powered/mainboard USB port on your PC, make sure Kies/it's processes aren't running in Windoze Task Manager (if they are, kill them. You need the drivers that come with Kies to use Odin, but they mess with each other if they're running @ the same time), ensure you're running Odin as admin, and use the USB cable which came with the phone if you have it.
I did exactly what you said, still stuck in bootloop.

And still can't get into recovery? Usually a full wipe will alleviate a boot loop.
If you're now in boot loop, the ROM is corrupted, think of it as a Windows loading forver. Just push a new ROM compatible to your device, I recommend stock for now, and see if it will boot normally.
I only experience boot loop once during my CM 7 installation, I reinstalled the ROM and everything works perfectly.

You obviously did not do what I said.
I said "If you did everything and it didn't work, proceed to flash the Kernel and/or the bl".
You did 't use the .PIT and re-partition. If you use it, it'll fix the phone.
Have you flashed the kernel?
Plus, you have a soft bricked phone, period. The only different thing from others is how it happened
Flash the kernel. And then the recovery package. Without the .PIT. If that doesn't work, use the .PIT.
Just a FYI : I once soft bricked my phone when flashing a stock ROM. So yeah, soft bricks happen with almost all ROMs that are messy.
I did flash the kernel and the recovery package. At this point I haven't voided the warranty and I'm scared the flashing the .pit will do so. But I guess if that's the only thing I haven't done and you say it will fix it I will. I should use the one from the recovery package right? It will work on my Bell Canada I9100M?
Are you able to enter recovery by pressing volume up + home + power?
Have a read of my Helper Post...
Happened to me yesterday. Follow this:
1. Get Siyah kernel in .tar and flash it through odin.
2. Enter recovery and go to mount. In there format /data, /system, /cache, format all. Reboot recovery.
3. Search for a wipe script in xda forum ex: sgs2 rom wipe or something like that. Put it in your phone and go to recovery and install it.
4. Boot in download mode and flash latest version of stock rom downloaded from sammobile.com
Thats how I soved mine. Good luck.

Let's save the pit file flash for last.
People see "PIT" and go like "oh, I gotta flash this".
They must think it's a magic file, or something.

Forgive me for barging in, but if am correct, flashing PIT files is needed only when u have messed up the partitions on ur device, right?
Would that happen if I flash another phone's firmware, like say an i9300?

Yeah, corrupted nand and all.
The thing is that people just love flashing pit files, my guess is they think "new ROM, maybe it needs more room, besides I've unzipped the .rar and the pit file is there. Gotta flash that in order for the ROM to work".
And then.....

Hey Guys,
I was trying to root my phone using the odin stock root method.. I downloaded and started the process.. the firmware update was going and my little one bumped on the phone, the firmware update stopped in the middle. After that I tried putting the phone in download mode again and Odin detects my phone but I am unable to install the firm. Tried different firmware still no luck. It says downloading but nothing happens.
I tried to install just siyah kernel hoping to atleast get into CWM still no luck
I tried heimdall its says no protocal enabled.
I can get the Odin to detect the phone. I am unable to install the firmware?
is it bricked?
Is there anything I can do to the phone to get back to working?
Any help will be truly appreciated guys..

Check the sticky in General, and try ADB to push the zimage.tar to the phone - that should get you booting again, I think, then you can fight with it from there.
Thanks. I will try that...
Thanks for the quick reply

If they can tell you were trying to root or install ANY third party rom/recovery the service center won't even touch it.

he got step by step guide and videos that walk you through it. Rooting from Odin will give you cwm which you will need. Before you flash you need to go ahead and download the rom your going to use on your sd card. That way you'll already have it. After you find the rom you want you need to use cmw to flash your rom. Make sure you do a cwm backup before you flash your rom. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.PHP?t:1532368
That will take you to the at&t sg2 i777 index. It has every rom made for i777. The 1 that I like the most is cm9. It ics running android version 4.0.4 and it silky smooth.lol. If you need anymore help just message me.

Try a jig. I know you can already get into download mode but it is worth a shot. Maybe after the counter is reset, odin might work. Plus if you have to send it in, might as well try to reset the counter.

Thanks getbuzzin, thats the plan as of now.. I had stock rom without root before so if I get the jig I should be able to get it as if it was a stock. So I have a hope to give it to service center.
I am just wondering are there any 3rd party who could get it working? I don't mind paying for this job.. just that this is my only phone need it badly...

I have always understood that if you can get into download mode, you can recover the phone, so I would not give up very easily if it were my phone.
I've read through your posts, and I don't really understand why Odin is not completing the flash. Here are some things I would try. For Odin, use a different usb port, a different usb cable, or even try to flash with Odin from a different PC. With heimdall, did you use the command line, or the front end? You said you flashed from a mac, also try heimdall from a pc using the command line.
The complete package of firmware for UCKH7 is available in the download repository.
If you are never able to recover the phone yourself, you need jtag repair. Mobile Tech videos can do that for about $50 or $60.

Thanks creepyncrawly. I am not going to give up yet. I don't another computer with me, will try a different cable and PC later. I have also ordered a jig so will try with that. I have no idea why its not completing, I know the firmware is complete download because I have used it before. Thanks for all your support will keep trying before sending it for repair. Glad to hear if samsung cannot do it I will be able to get it done else where.
Hi creepyncrawly
I am guessing the phone got disturbed while loading the firmware at very early sstage. I haven't tried repartition using the pit file or trying to pramfile or something. Do you think I should be giving that a shot. I don't want to screw my phone anymore so wondering if this is really worth a try?

I can only tell you what I would do if it were my phone.
Without some firm idea of what the exact problem is, it only leaves guess work. As you suggest, the flash could have been interupted during a particular part. You don't mention in the OP, but did you watch and make note of the step by step printout in the text box in Odin? That would be helpful to at least point in the right direction.
There is some risk when flashing bootloaders and param files, and also with repartitioning. Not sure exactly the risk levels, but mostly I think the problem is when a flash gets interrupted. So, if you flash something like param.lfs, it should be fairly safe if you are careful and have a good cable and connection.
Again, if it were my phone, I think I would try flashing individual parts to see if one of them is damaged before I tried to flash with the PIT. I'd probably start with param.lfs. But I would try everything available before I gave up and spent money getting it repaired.

I am still trying, won't give up easily. I have ordered a jig today, will get them in couple of weeks.
Tried doing just the param through, not able to push it again, getting error saying can't communicate through com port. I am highly doubting my cable could be problem now.
I have asked for a cable from my buddy, would get it tomorrow will try flashing with that.
Will try to flash again once I get the jig.
if nothing wokring then will send it to service.
Between can someone point me how to upload the pit file. I can't seem to find a tutorial for that.
Do you have Kies installed on your Mac?? Heimdall never worked for me until I uninstalled Kies. I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago and finally got Heimdall to flash my phone back to stock. Hey guys,
I'm trying to flash the S2 back to UK Factory kernal as I want to take it back for a warranty claim.
I've unrooted the phone so far, but bnow want to restore the phone with a stock/factory kernal, however the links for the factory kernals in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 don't work. I keep getting messages that the files have been removed due to copyright violati ions etc...
Can somebody please help?
Cheers
Try here, if not Samfirmware, if not you'll have to flash an entire stock rom (which is what I'd probably do regardless if I was returning a phone for a warranty claim).
Thanks for the links MistahBungle, but what do you mean by 'flash an entire stock rom'. Is it not sufficient to just flash with a kernal from the links?
How difficult is it to do the entire stock rom? I'd rather be safe than sorry, if flashing the entire stock rom keeps the warranty inatct...
cheers
here you go stock rom ,kernek and modems
I mean, instead of flashing just the kernel, flashing the entire rom package (which also obviously contains the kernel). You don't absolutely have to do this, it's just what I'd do (just my personal preference).
It's no more difficult to flash a whole rom, just the download will take longer as it's a couple of hundred MB Vs a few MB for a kernel.
Do whatever you're comfortable with ;-)

:S connected phone in dowload mode and ran Odin, downloaded firmware file from site that apk_xiz suggested (downloaded one that had XX in the region, as that should be the one for UK?)
Loaded tar.nd5 file in pda on odin and hit start and the the phone just stays in downloading and nothing happens now?? Odin says all hread completed suceed 0 and failed 0?
Can somebody please shed some light
Check Windoze Task Manager & kill Kies/related processes if they're running. If they're not, go thru as many of the following steps as you need to:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again. Also run Windoze Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. And if it doesn't work first go on the 2nd PC, go thru the above steps on that PC.

Thank you so much guys, think Its going back to stock now, still downloading as I type...
I've noticed though that the bianry counter states 3 downloads :S I take it I need to buy a 'JIG' tool to reset this counter back to '0'?
Or can I just do a factory erase/reset by holding up menu and power then selecting restore/erase option, would that reset the counter too?
Yep, buy a jig on eBay (costs a couple of bucks), provided you're not running the 'new' bootloader, the jig will reset your flash counter.
If you find the jig doesn't work, you have two options; flash the 'old' bootloader, or use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.
But don't worry about that now, get your phone working, buy a jig (even if it doesn't reset your flash counter, could come in handy if you can't get into download mode someday for whatever reason) & see how it goes.
no you won't have to buy any zig to reset your binary count just root your phone and download triangle away and you are good to go .
enjoy
Okay, phone is working again with stock firmware...
Now, I already had a battery temprature problem with the phone, it didn't restart without plugging in with a charger when you would power it down... But now after restore, it keeps telling me that charging has been paused due to high voltage and the battery icon keeps flashing in the top right corner on the screen?? Should I just leave this one for the warranty then?
Seriously, you've messed with it enough, haven't you ? ;-P Send it in for warranty, add that problem to the list of other stuff you tell them about.

As Apk_Xiz, said, you're going to have to use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter if you've flashed an ICS stock firmware. Go to that thread he linked to if that's the case, read the instructions & go for it. But if you've flashed a Gingerbread stock rom, yeah, wait for the jig & reset it then send it off.

Yes, you can brick your device. I said which one is proper for your phone to avoid any errors while flashing 16Gb model of i9300. But if you don't have a knowledge about pit's and you even don't know which one to use than better live repartition options to someone else or don't touch this at all for your own safety. But stop asking if you are not listening the answers.
You asking about .pit but I suppose you have no idea which type of Rom it should be flashed with if you are trying to resurrect your phone.
i9.0.1.3k galaxy imperator
I9300XXBLG8_I9300OXABLG8_I9300XXLH1_HOME.tar.md5
This was the firmware grabbed directly from KIES during an update, so that would be same CSC, I9300OXABLG8.
And yesterday i reflashed the same firmware with the mentioned .pit.
I won't say that i'm sure it will work for you, since i'm not in a position to be sure, but it seems the only difference between us is the color of the phone.
Also i had messed up my partitions, but CWM was working for me partly. So slightly different situation.
Personally i would try to reflash CWM first. And if it doesn't boot in recovery still, then try to repartition and flash the original firmware.
By the way, just to correct myself, mine is also 'unbranded'. I meant it as in 'from uk' in the previous post
How about given ppl some info, like how and why u SEMI-bricked your phone.rom, kernel and what did u do to try to solve it..repartitioning is the last resort to turn to.
First try and flash a recovery(cwm) with odin(eg.with "toolkit v5") and flash a rom from that.
If that doesn't work, then flash the 3 files PDA,modem, csc from odin(when finished flashing, the phone will boot and this can take 10min to boot).
NOW if these attempts fail, then u can try repartitioning..
But why are u flashing your 600$ phone without reading on how to repair a soft-brick.it is very easy to repair after some reading.there is detailed info everywhere on xda.
Just Google: flash with odin,galaxy gs3 soft(semi)-bricked..
So the key to repair your phone is google...
Guys I already have tonnes of posts by me for the same purpose. I have tried every single thing that could resurrect this phone. I haven't flashed the PIT File yet. And yes i don't know much about it but I have been searching the XDA forums and I found no solid answer. Many people ended up in bricks and got there motherboards replaced by Samsung just by flashing the wrong PIT File. That is why I asked this because I don't wanna risk my phone. I have even tried replacing the NAND Memory (Consider my old posts). This too hasn't fixed it.
I'm not a noob that much but I do know somethings and don't know some too!
Thought I'd add to this rather than start a new thread...
Could do with a bit of advice...my phone battery died overnight and when I plugged it in to recharge and start it up again it wouldn't get past the Samsung start screen...
I managed to reflash it with the latest 9300 stock and then flashed again with Miui India...
Everything ok until it started restoring my messages when it decided to reboot and now it cant get into anything other than upload mode...
The PIT looks like it needs flashed...I've a UK i9300, 32GB and could do with a pointer or 2...sammobile.com is down at the minute (bad gateway), is there anywhere i can get the firmware to try and to fix it?

I had the same thing. Phone was charging - next minute it was stuck on boot screen. Tried everything to restore but nothing worked. Like you would only boot into d/l menu but Odin wouldnt do anything. I took it to Sammy service centre who diagnosed dead battery. Completely dead - no cells working!. They said they would replace battery and reflash but today now saying they cant do this and phone is getting sent to samsung now. No doubt in my mind that this is all caused by catastrophic battery failure but I bet its screwed the mobo also. My phone was rooted but running stock os. Fingers crossed they repair or replace.

For anyone reading this unhelpful post, DO NOT TRY FLASHING A PIT, it will brick your phone.
For some reason Odin doesn't work well if you use PIT with one-part rom. I had a similar problem, my friend flashed rom for totally other phone but luckily he had an /efs backup and working download mode (flashing normal rom failed with anything else than bootloader, probably changed partition table).
Pit and 1-part rom didn't work as well, so I went back to 4.0.X and flashed 3-part rom with a pit file... and guess what. It worked, it literally bringed back whole the system, only /efs content was missing so I restored his efs backup and revived his phone.
Luckily one of my polish folks prepared such 3-part rom.

If everything else fails you can try (on your own risk!) to flash above 3-part rom with a pit included and re-partition ticked. It flashes very old XXALEF (4.0.X) without sudden death fix and should be only used when you really need to repartition your phone. If you pass such flashing immediately flash something newer, f.e. XXEMG4.
I tried to flash resurrection remix rom on my sgs2. But it did not boot after installation.
Now I can't get in my recovery to do a restore. It stuck on the screen which says Samsung galaxy sII
Please help I don't know what to do

Just a bootloop, give this a go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
You will lose all data although, nothing on external sd card will be lost.
Also, how did you flash the ROM? If you followed the guide step-by-step, you shouldn't have ended up in a bootloop.
I wiped all partitions and then flashed the zip file.
Is it with a bootloop that you even can't get in to recovery? I'm stuck on samsung logo, not on RR logo

Ah I'm stupid! You need to get into recovery for that thread! You're definitely holding the correct buttons when the phone is fully off (home + power + volume up)?
I think I will give it a go. But the threat says that you should do it from your recovery, or if you are not comfortable with the recovery way you should do it via odin. I can't get in recovery, so maybe I have an other problem..
I'm honestly a little scared of odin.
once I had to do something with odin, but that failed. so I could not get out download mode..

This is taken straight from my rooting guide. It will help you correctly set up Odin:
First off, you need Odin, which is a flashing tool specifically designed for the SGS2: Just type in "Odin 1.85" without quotations into Google and the first result should display "Odin - xdadevelopers - XDA Developers." Click on the link and Odin will download.
Now before going ahead with Odin, download Kies: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ ,which is like iTunes for Samsung Devices, the drivers are needed for Odin, but when the drivers have been installed, close Kies, right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your desktop, I'll assume your running Windows 7, and go into Task Manager. Now find anything with Kies running in the Task Manager, right click on them and kill them.
Once you have done this, go to "sammobile.com", sign up and download a stock ROM for the GT-I9100. I'll assume you have the international SGS2, just remove your battery and make sure it isn't the GT-I9100G. Then flash via Odin by connecting your phone, making sure Odin is configured like above, and then putting your phone in download mode, connecting it to your PC and put the file you downloaded in the PDA section and flash.

Yes, if you can't get into Recovery Mode, a new flash is your only saviour. When you have flashed the ROM and hopefully everything went well, you can root your ROM by using Chainfire's CF-Root. Then you could restore a backup.
I have also a zip-file of my previous rom on my sd-card. That was codename lungo. Can I flash that zip so i don't neet to re-root lik you said?

Do you know what it is/does? Also, the guide I took that segment on setting up Odin was actually written for rooting your ROM with CF-Root.
Oh, its a ROM. My bad! Well, I'm not too sure. I think if you have a backup of it, that would be safer. Rooting is real easy anyway.
Is Codename Lungo not a HTC Sensation ROM?
Oke thank you.
I will download the stock firmware from sammobile, and try to flash it with Odin. I just want it to work again (root or no root) and not have to buy a new phone

Don't thank me till it's working! Once new ROM flashed and booted, let me know.
By the way, don't use the .PIT file if one is included in the download, if you get PDA, PHONE and CSC, put in appropriate sections of Odin and flash, if just one file, put in PDA section and flash.

You put phone into download mode and flash through Odin. There are many guides on here for directions
Here's one guide. Read the full first page

yeah i know, many guides i have done, walked through, but nothing helps. odin flashes without problem. phone restarts and still no recovery with bootloop... flashed this and that.. and still same issues.
Flash JB leak firmware via odin (comes as 3 parts - Pda, phone and csc). Then see if it boots. If it doesn't, try to enter recovery and factort reset.
Report back what happens.

I've seen a couple of these cases happening lately, my bet is on the bootloader, eventhough I don't encourage people to try flashing it. Or, as always, OP is holding something back.
Neo, I'm not familiar with the ROM being downloaded from a non-stable internet connection and I know you get them from an internet cafe. Now, is it possible that Odin would allow (flash) a corrupted ROM?

I literally did this yesterday. After you flash stock you have to boot into 3e (stock recovery) and wipe data. This will stop the bootloop and you can carry on with rooting if that's what you want.
It's better to wipe dalvik, you need CWM for that, that's why it's always suggested to flash a custom ROM when on a bootloop.

jeah i know but whatever i flash i still have no recovery...
ok now its official. phone memory is problem, i went to service today and they told me that when i flash with odin the values that i flash dont stay in the memory, on the next boot
those values get clear, memory bug of some kind, he said that he can manual and direct approach to the motherboard and write recovery directly but he cant say if it will always
work like it is suppose to.
Hum....I think you're getting conned, as the matter of fact, he must be reading this right now.
