Seems like a ridiculously good deal ?
for those with one, do you think this phone is gong to stand the test of time over the next year or so ?
I'm about to leave Sprint for AT&T because of the Nexus S 4G fiasco, and want some input...
Thanks
This is like asking a room full of Muslims if Allah is the one and true God.
A search would have led you to numerous SGSII vs whatever threads where you could have gleaned that many in here find this to be probably the best current AT&T offering at this time.
Thanks. Doing it today.

Great phone, great devs, great community.
Its good to see ATT isnt just trying to waste all the money they are putting into the NCAA tourney.
Advertise... Give a time limited special... and get new customers.
This at $9.99 is better than any .01 Cent offer they have had.
Vivid at $99.99 would be a good value if you are in an LTE area.
As someone who paid $199.99 for their AT&T Galaxy S2 when it came out, yes $9.99 on contract is a steal.
$200 was very worth it too though
Is there a huge difference between this and the Skyrocket ? Will HSPA+ still be as fast as that ?

LTE is really fast. And really noticeable. But personally, I'm a bigger fan of the sgh-i777.
Both web-surf and battery-drain faster with LTE.
AT&T LTE is not everywhere.
$10 for this SGS2 is a deal.

Done it.
Ordered it today.
Looking forward to rooting and Custom ROM'ing it.
I would wait for a new phone.
Please tell me these are refurbished ones for $9.99 and not a new GS2???
I just bought my refurb in February for $9.99 and Im gonna be pissed if ATT is giving out the new ones for the same price!
Although so far its thee most awesome smartphone Ive ever owned regardless.
I got the 10$ refurb the other day and I'm lovin it. Only took 2 days to arrive.

Thanks for posting! I had just ordered and received my phone last week so I called AT&T today and they gave me a price adjustment. This was a good deal at $99.99 and it's an even greater deal at $9.99!
I got mine in mid January. I traded in my Iphone 3gs for $100, the phone was $99.99 and got a %15 employee discount. I pretty much only had to cover the taxes...
Chuck! I would have known they will go down that low, I would have waited for a few more months...
I wonder why they suddenly went so low...

Getting a new phone for my birthday, on the 27th. I either pick one now or wait for something else, which would be the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Now, if I pick something now, I have no idea what I would get, but I really wanna wait for the Galaxy S2. That being said, I can't get it if it's not coming out for like 6 months, but if it's only gonna be like 2 months, then that's okay.(For US that is...I would buy from UK but price are showing $650+)
As for the price, I don't have any upgrades available, but since it's my birthday, parents will pay for around $150. I start work tomorrow at Target(starting pay at $7.50 too!) and so I hope to save for that, but I don't know if I'll have enough if it's gonna be like $600.
So what do you guys think about the release date and price?
Everything is pointing to within two months
As for a US-Specific version? Who knows. ATT could drag their feet on their model.
The US models are typically cheaper than the international models though- the original SGS was the same way. International version/unlocked rates are $100-200 higher than the Captivate here in the US.

Well, considering it's a quad band device I'm hoping the US carriers don't demand changes.
My captivates screen just cracked(nasty fall) no insurance so i got att retention to give me an early upgrade and have the htc inspire for $75 with a 2 year. I will have another upgrade in april i plan on using for the SGS2 but who knows if it will be out by then. If it isnt then im selling my inspire useing my upgrade on a iphone and then reselling it and bam should have enough for the god of all phones the SGS2.
well thats my plan anyway

I wouldn't waste my time with feature-deprived, carrier-bloat, delayed-updates, contracts, or any of the headaches that come with the US cell carriers.
I will personally never buy a contract phone again. You lose all leverage against the carrier. For example, my family has reduced price cable and free movie channels because we threatened to switch providers.

Heres why i Think contracts give you more benefits and leverage.
they dont want you to cancel in contract or not they will still do the same to help you. ATT bloatwhere is the worst tho.
-Never get angry
-be kind to the rep(treat them how you would like to be treated)
-tell them you dont want to leave att but you dont really have a choice if you cant get your issue resolved.
-if the rep still doesnt budge tell them you want to cancel service. this will get you transfered to the save team a.k.a retention. Now these people have the power.
-once you have retention online chances are you will get what you want and more trust me.
I used to work for att. I know all the ins and outs. Retention department is key. ATT gives credits like nothing. when my captivate just broke I got them to give me my upgrade now instead of july waived upgrade fee(which is BS anyway) and $30 off my bill for the next 6 months (180) not to mention when i left them i had my friend/coworker put the best company discount on my account which happens to be coca cola. so I also recieve 28% off my primary line and I believe a smaller percentage off data planes. it saves me $50 plus every month off my bill. Just gotta know how to work the system. I dont know why they are so generous but i tried doing things like this on my fathers vzw account and they will not budge. I love ATT and wont part with them. I have another upgrade on another line come april this year which will be used for galaxy S2. much rather sign a 2 year and pay $200 over $800 for international version when im gonna just root it and put my own rom on there any way.
If anyone is having trouble with att. PM and I will give you some advice.
they did crack down on the company discount thing tho you do have to show proof i am grand fathered in tho.
ill be happy to help
Err, guys? Has anyone else noticed that Wikipedia lists April 1st as SGS II release date for the US?

I got my GF an Atrix on release day to replace her Nexus 1. She used it for a week and absolutely hated it (lots of problems) so we swapped it for an Inspire. So far she's fine with that.
We'll know more at CTIA but it may be pretty late in the year considering the previous Galaxy S US version was also announced at CTIA only to be released in July for T-Mobile.
I am guessing 1st week of May. usually 4 to 6 weeks behind Europe They will pay 830 so minus VAT 581 USD
Figure I could help some potential buyers out.
After reading on this forum that Target Mobile had the Galaxy S2 for $99 I decided to go to the store last night and check it out. Sure enough, they are $99. The saleswoman then asks what kind of phone i currently have/whether i am eligible for upgrade/etc.
I tell her that yes i'm eligible and I have a Captivate. She says "cool you should be able to get $95 on a trade-in"...
me: "uhh, really?" At this point I don't really believe her at all as I've never heard of such a thing with these phones and even if they do trade in i have no reason to believe they'd give me $95 for a used ~1.5 year old phone.
So she says "let me check it out on the CPU". She plugs in the info, comes back, and says "yep, you can get $95 for your captivate, and get the galaxy s2 for $5+tax.
My jaw probably hit the floor, after picking it up I ask her to show me the dotted line and I'm in.
So...for all you cappy owners, hit up Target Mobile!
Was you're captivate rooted or romed?

Trade-In
I sold my cappy on eBay about 6 months ago for $250.
Right now they are selling em for about $200 bucks.
If your cappy is in like new condition with retail box,
no cracks, chips, scratches and all accessories which
it came with, you can get an easy $200-$225 bucks
even now on eBay.
So $95 bucks trade in is not a good deal at all unless there
is something wrong with phone.
hmm interesting. Mine had quite a few chips on the back. It was laggy as hell and was rooted so i'll take $95.
In store only man. Online is the full $199.99.
Edit: Target deal.

I sold my captivate for 200 also. Targets are now buying your old phones. obviously at a lower price but the thing is whether or not you want to deal with trying to sell it on eBay or Craigslist. Then you have to ship it or meet the person. It can become a hassle. I would of done the same thing knowing I could get a gs2 for 5 bucks right then and now. Not having to deal with or waiting for someone to buy my old phone. Great job in getting the phone for 5 bucks.

Sell the iPhone 4S and buy the galaxy s2. I was able to sell my 4S for 580 and I often got 550 offers. I bought my Galaxy S 2 at 400 bucks.
i would trade it if I were you....unless you want to try to sell the iphone. it should sell for quite a bit.
Just make sure that the GS2 isnt scratched/dented/chipped and in perfect condition... otherwise sell your 4S and buy a brand new GS2.
Yeah the guy said its a few weeks old, and it had a screen protector + case on first day so no damage. Which I believe as my 4S is from launch and also not even a scratch even though its all glass.
That is true. I put my 4S on ebay actually with a buy it now of 550 and nothing 4 days later =/. Also they don't even sell the SGS II here (washing it away with the LTE markets coming and the skyrocket). Also having to go through paypal and ebay taking money from me selling, and then buying is kind of a drag. Along with the fact that I would need a phone right away, don't have any other AT&T phones to use in the mean-time. I think I'm just going to do the trade, the guy lives close to me and were meeting at an AT&T store in order for me to get a regular sim as the iphones use micros. Can't wait to root the hell out of it.

But seriously... if you cant wait, or dont want to do the Ebay/Paypal thing, then trading is a great way. Also, you can try craigslist... no Ebay/Paypal involved there (I advise to meet in a high-populated area... like in front of a Target or Best Buy).
I actually meant to write craigslist in the initial post lol my bad about that. And were meeting at an AT&T store. Guy seems very genuine so I think it should go well. I need to get the standard SIM for the GSII anyway so I told him to meet an at&t store which is about 5 minutes away from me so no worries there.

Sounds good. Good idea about meeting in front of AT&T. I always advise people to meet in a highly populated area if meeting a stranger... no need to create a possibility for a dangerous situation.
Sounds like you will have your phone soon. Welcome to the GS2... you wont go back.
I went to iOS from android, biggest regret. the 4S was so hyped, and the death of SJ made me want it even more considering how poetic it all was. But now a month later I realize that it isn't for me and that flippin' grid of icons ughh
i love my s2, i came from apple so if that helps, if you want a phone that is simple and limited apple is for you, if you want a beautiful open ended phone that you can custimize this is for you. P.s. just sell the iphone u will make so much more, then buy the s2 they are going for 350-400

I've considered jumping over to the 4S for a very long time. I have an IPad 2 that I love just because it was free and its my college book. I think that is enough Apple in my life, sticking with SGS II for awhile, at least until SGS III hits the market.
I say sell the 4s. There are numerous people internationally that will buy the 4s at an inflated price. Use that to buy a new GS2. Also, watch out for eBay scams. A lot of users with addresses in Nigeria are creating fake invoices anf stealing people's items.

Arguably it being pre-rooted and already having UnNamed installed could be worth the money he missed out on. Still, welcome to Android. Converted from the 3GS to an Inspire 4G to a GSII. Both better than my iPhone ever was.
Just curious, what's considered a fair price for a brand new Rezound? We're talking about never been used retail box same as direct from Verizon. Is $300 too high/low?

Man... the reason I ask is because I got a "spare" Rezound from my last upgrade before Verizon started the no unlimited data with upgrade clause. I've been listing it on craigslist for $325 but so far have only gotten trade requests with new and used Nexus. I am interested in cash only - poor grad student - so I guess trading for the Nexus and then trying to flip that won't put me ahead from what you said.
I'll lower the price to $300 and see what happens...

I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

well i already traded in a phone directly through HTC for $100 and its gonna be for a visa prepaid card. plus you have to do this in store and they dont have the 64GB version available at stores. i guess its a good deal for those that missed the cutoff for the HTC deal though.

What did you tell him that you got the $200 credit? I just signed up with AT&T a week ago and I still cant get my 36 dollar activation fee waived

Wow glad I came across this thread.. I'm locked in a 2 year contract with my s3 so this will definitely ease that upgrade fee
If I bought my One brand new from craigslist could I use this to get an S4 or another One?

Cool, so this is retroactive?
I got my One on release day, so still within the 14 days - if I go back to the store, they should credit me, right? I have a Nokia 900 that I would gladly trade in for an easy $100, lol.

An 8525? Wow. That is old. HTC was taking that for a trade in? I wish I would have known. I could have dug mine out of the drawer.
I had the One..exchanged it for the S4 and came back to the One. Anyone that that has the S4, should definitely get the One if you can, while the bootloader is still unlockable
I'd rather go on swappa or any number of other sites and sell my old kit for a lot more than $100 unless it's an old phone. Just about any decent, present day smartphone is worth more than $100. They're just catering to those who either don't know there options or don't want to deal with trying to sell on their own.

You could go pick up a cheap android phone from virgin mobile for $30-50. This would get you $50 off. I'm trying to find out what phones are eligible. I sell my stuff on ebay too, but a free $50 is nice to stick it to at&t

I checked. They showed a $0 payment for an 8525. For a galaxy sII, they offer less than AT&T. But, Swappa is a better deal than AT&T.

From everything I've been told, it's $100 minimum.
Just wanted to say, bought my One two weeks today and went back to the AT&T store to see if I could get in on this promo. Not a problem at all, traded in an old HTC Inspire 4G and they gave me the $100 credit, which by request, they applied to my bill. What's great is, average selling price on eBay for the Inspire is around $80.

i just told them that i see that you guys have the trade in promotion going that you get 100 dollars for trading in your used phone. i actually read this thread wrong which is why i called inthe first place lol. because i thought they give you 100 dollars on top of what they already give you. the wife traded her iphone 5 and i traded a nexus 4. the rep gave me a 200 dollar credit no questions asked. probably because she can't see on her system exactly what phones we traded in.
