If u try the method posted above the one i gave then u can't move app to sd,can't install big apps from market, can't restore from titanium backup on XXLPJ
And i think the apps u moved to sd will be corrupt

But if u are rooted then backup using titanium backup from market

i installed it and all is working great but one last question what is a good speed to overclock it to??
Overclocking varies from phone to phone due to manufacturing variances in the CPU. Some CPU's can handle being overclocked to 1600 or undervolted to a certain level, others can't. You can only find this out thru trial & error.
There are plenty of threads on here about overclocking which can give you pointers/levels you can safely start with.

Install siyah beta kernal,by rooting from the method I gave before, download its cwm recovery zip, power down phone, press and hold power+volume up+home key and leave it when u see galaxy s2 logo
Then go to install zip from sd card, press power key, select internal SD or just SD card if u have the download zip in external SD,then select the file install and reboot
Use set CPU to overclock
Increase it to 1400 and try if its stable and if its stable then test 1600 if its stable,if phone freezes or reboot then stay on 1400
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
it crashed at 1600 lol so ill stick with 1400

Hi guys i've customised sony ericssons before but i am a total noob when it comes to this. Can somebody help me I am running on 2.3.3 on my new galaxy ace phone. As far as I know its not rooted I bought it from the shop, I want to overclock from 800Mhz to the possible 921Mhz, and I would like some better visuals. Can somebody help me choose a good rom and give me a quick guide on how I will install it without cocking my phone up ?
Many thanks,

I'm sure you are aware of this, but overclocking is a big no-no. Overclocking should only be done if you want to push your device to the absolute physical limit, not to improve performance. A lot of people (including me) reported random reboots and shutdowns and touchscreen malfunctions, even when using a 804MHz clock speed.
If you want performance, the safest way to go would be applying (and flashing) tweaks. I use GadgetCheck's V8.5 Turboboost along with Slaid's FastMOD. It's cool and the change is quite noticeable.
Okay, enough of the OC rant.
Firstly, you need to install a custom recovery. For the Ace, we have ClockworkMod's Recovery, available in two versions: 4.0.0.9 (official support) and 5.x.x.x (non official, but it works just as well).
Secondly, BACKUP your device with CWM Recovery, just in case anything unfortunate happens. If something ****ty does happen (and trust me, it WILL happen), you can just restore your backup you made earlier.
Now, you just need to choose your preferred ROM. Here some of the most used ROMs:
1. Custom stock ROMs.
They are mostly stock ROMs with a lot of visual and perfomance tweaks. It won't outperform CM-based ROMs, but battery life is [relatively] excellent.
2. CM7 ports
Currently, we have 3 (or 4 was it?) CM7 ports. The original port of CM7 was compiled by Behrad (he's not developing for Ace anymore, unfortunately) and is quite old. Another one by Grif_07. Those two are based on CyanogenMod 7.1 and are quite awesome and stable. Then there's a newer one by Axel based off CyanogenMod 7.2. Seriously, I don't notice much difference, except for a slight improvement of performance.
CM7 ports and ROMs are also famous for their miserable battery life (on the Ace, anyway. I don't know on any other devices).
3. Ice Cream Sunday Final Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
This ROM is renown for it's absolute blazing speed and lightness. I can't even comprehend how Jusada managed that. Even without flashing tweaks, it's still lightning fast.
But performance requires sacrifice, and ICSunday Final is no exception. Although it has some fancy transition animations, it's barebones, meaning that non-important apps are removed. These include the default File Manager, DSP Manager and the Spare Parts utility for Android.
4. GingerCruzt 2.3 Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
This is quite a semi-antithesis of ICSunday. It's not as fast, but it's really, very, extremely beautiful. Apart from that, it has some Sony Ericsson features such as the Bravia engine and xLoud. It's also not barebones, so most of the default apps are still there. Developed by nims11.
5. Infinity ROM Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
A newcomer (released, like, three days ago). If you thought GC2.3 was beatiful, wait till you see this one. Developed by the same developer, it's ungodly gorgeous and I love it half to death. Unfortunately, the reason I'm not using it right now is because it's too transparent. Not 70% or 75% transparency, but full blown 100% transparent, which causes some text difficult to see.
Okay, I may or may not update this post with links, but hopefully I will.

See my sig and then decide if you really want to overclock
Do NOT overclock. I repeat, do not overclock
Not stable on 921mhz.
Everyone cool down.dude in ma opinion try ics final which has Oc kernel from beginning .but if u want to try another rom which don't have oc kernel flash ketut kumajyas Kernel patch. Remember oc kernel will only work on cm7 based roms. To change frequency go to cyanogen settings > performance than first try frequency of 844 as min and max both. never ever check the box restore settings on boot. Now on each frequency do tests like playing games to see your phone is stable or not. When you got the frequency on which your phone is stable check the box restore cpu settings. Now you have perfect oc
If I helped u in any means hit the thanks button..........

It depends on the device. My phone can handle overclocking up to 840MHz or so, while my mother's phone (also SGA) can't even handle an OC kernel, even though it's not OC-ed.

I have managed to install Clockworksmod recovery 5 and I have backed up and saved the backup file to desktop.
I want to install ICS Final and in the instructions it tells me to:
You need cwm5 installed, then wipe system, partition and davick. . . .then go to mounts and wipe data, system and cashe.
then install zip
after install, go through set up then set oc if you use and any other settings then reboot.
I can find the option for wipe data/factory reset

Are you trying to partition your SD card through CWM? If so, don't click on 2048, but on how big you want your ext partition to be. If you don't know what ext partitions are, you better just skip that part.
Yes, flash ICSFinal through the "install zip from sd card" option.

Wohoooo it is time for Odin flash.
OK solution-simple you can't use that backup. Go to sammobile website from there you can download latest firmware of your area(continent) and download a cooper. Ops file. There is a guide in sammobile on how to use Odin flash. Read it carefully if any problems then ask here. All above mentioned files can be found in website.
Reason -u can't use backup bcz stock rom flash our system with rfs format and ics with ext4 format. So backups doesn't not change system type.......

At first I thought that overclocking is cool and good but it just uses power and my sgs2 is fast enough underclocked to 1ghz, though if your phone has some lag, maybe then u should overclock slightly, but if it's lag free, I wouldn't recommend to overclock

Hey,
I installed cyanogenmod 9 on my gt-i9300, the installation went smooth, but then I had the great idea to install the Ninphetamin3 kernel as well, it turns out that they are not compatible with one another(or I did something wrong), now the phone starts up and keeps looping at the cm9 boot animation. I have no back ups on the internal sd card as I did these two actions at the same time, and the phone cannot read my original stock rom.
I might have accidentally deleted them in my haste(tried following a youtube fix that did not work9
question…..Can I put the cm9 rom and gapps on a micro sd, then plug it back into the phone and reinstall it this way?
btw this is my first android mobile, and I am using an osx system to root and any information on how to fix this problem via an osx system will be greatly appreciated.

Did you try wiping cache and dalvik cache?
99% of the time, wiping cache and dalvik cache will solve your bootloop problems and force closes.
Hey
Yepp I tried all of those, still no luck, will try with the micro sd later about 2am here in sthlm and I need some sleep before the old job...
I will update to say how it goes...
Ninphetamine kernel is a Samsung kernel, it is not compatible with CM9.
Why don't you just reinstall CM9?
hey,
That is what I would like to do, but I flashed cm9 with rom manager, and since my phone is stuck looping and the boot animation I cannot reco it from there. I tried doing it from clockworkmod recovery and cannot find the rom in the file system either....so my plan is to pop a micro sd into my computer transfer the files onto that, then pop it into the phone again and attempt to do it this way... Hopefully it can be done.

I transfered the cm9 and gapps onto my ext sd card using a laptop, then back into the phone. I reflashed and basically I have a phone that I can use again..
One more thing I noticed since reinstalling the cm9 rom
I got everything back but when I go to the play store on my computer it no longer recognizes my mobile, but
if I access it through my mobile it does is there any explanation for this?
Not a big deal but it would be nice to reinstall apps and some paid apps again without having to pay for them again..
any ideas?
Perhaps something to do with the baseband on cm9?

Does that mean if I restore the stock rom(no intention) that the store would recognize the phone again?
Just use your computer and flash stock rom to your GS3, that's how i solved similar problem with GS2 when it was looping.
Odin is fairly easy to use, tons of instructions online, finding right stockrom online might be time consuming.
Backup your phone ALWAYS! With cwm, i have big list of backups always ready, everytime you messing with new roms, kernels or what ever changes you make, it's worth the time, trust me.

Use galaxy s3 toolkit to backup your firmware to pc,look in development section.
And ALWAYS backup your imei nr(EFS folder) use K-TOOL from market(free) or EFS pro(pc)
ViperRez 1.0.3 won't download apps from market or links on the internet. Anyone have a fix?
Anyone?
Well, we need some more info.
Like a screenshot or an explanation of what happens.
Ok. Well I press download. It says 'starting download' but then I go to downloads and it says processing for like 20min. So I go to market and try to download chrome and the processing bar, not the downloading one that shows the percents, just keeps looping for another 10min. I know my Internet is fine, I've tried wifi and 4G and I know they both work because I'm able to access xda. Is this a known issue?

It's acting like your sd card is unmounted or is mounted to the computer.
I would back it up and format it. Is it not downloading the zips or not allowing you to see them in recovery.
What radio version are you running? You wiped system partition and data before installing the new rom?

No it can mount the sdcard just fine. The problem is it won't download the zips. I can see ones on my sdcard that I have already downloaded in recovery. My radio is 2.20
Edit: The zips will download I just need to reboot. Is there any fix for this. I don't want to have to reboot every time I want to download an app. This hasn't happened on any of my previous roms.

No, it won't start the download till I reboot.
Just flashed vigor360 and I can confirm that my download is working.
Refreshed and now download works...weird...
this rom is awesome
I was coming on to tell you how great this Rom is. A couple bugs that I won't go into detail for but I am able to download perfectly and I didnt know if telling you that I am currently unlocked but "s-on" would help. Don't know that much about rooting but it's working fine for me. This is by far the best Rom I've flashed.
I managed to compile twrp for the SGS3 GT-I9300. I loved this recovery on my SGS1 (until I couldn't get it to activate on devil kernel) and my Galaxy Tab 10.1. It has saved my rear end several times while testing the A1 kernel. With its on recovery terminal I could dd flash the stock kernel. CWM Touch is nice but I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE the blobs backup format. It makes it darn near impossible to save nandroid backups on your computer. I can understand the logic behind the blobs format but I still hate it. Also, I think it's a shame that the American/Canadian Qualcomm SGS3 has TWRP but the international power house doesn't.
I just downloaded the twrp source a few hours ago so this is TWRP V2.2.2.1. Unfortunately, the external SD does not mount but I did manage to get adb to work. I think that you could always adb push a rom zip in the event you cannot boot, forgot to make a nandroid, and forgot to have a "just in case" zip. Also, when rebooting, YOU MUST CHOOSE REBOOT SYSTEM. If you just poweroff, it will reboot into recovery the next time. If you forget and choose poweroff and it reboots into recovery, just choose reboot system and everything will be fine.
Attached is A1 (the character my A1 kernel is named after) holding my I9300 showing the recovery. The source is also uploaded, which includes files that I've changed in case anybody is interested to know how I did it. There is a rootzwiki page with instructions I followed. Just a few minor deviations from the instructions. I did "make recoveryimage" instead of "make amp amp..." that they recommended. And the obvious deviation, our device is called i9300 not tenderloin. That's the HP Touchpad.
I flashed the latest CM10 nightly from it, the latest siyah kernel and a touchwiz zip and nothing went wrong. Also tested backup and restore. Went fine.
Here is a youtube video demonstrating TWRP on the Galaxy Nexus by some random person on youtube.
Credits: team win, siyah kernel developer (recycled your zip to make the recovery zip). None of the code is original from me. I only tweaked the recovery.rc to enable adb.

Wow! Did a full 1.17Gig backup in like 10 seconds! Awesome, man thanx a lot, I hated backing up because it took ages especially heavy ROMs like ARHD and the like but now it's a breeze!! One question, am I able to restore CWM backups with TWN?
Excellent interface backed up and restored no problem .
jje
Works really well.and love the options it has.much more interactive and useful than CWM imo.sorry please dont mind me no disrespect to the fellow developers.
Thanks subbed

Dont give BS m8, it took 7mins to backup ARHD ROM. HOw can you backup almost 2gb of rom in 10secs?
BTW great recovery, much better than CWM been using for ages. Thanks.
Edit: Tried installing few zip mods although it says files installed but there is no mod done.
Finally ported to int. S3 ! Thanks AAccount ! This recovery is way much better than CWM.
Nice work mate, I was waiting for this.

Either I'm doing something very worry but it is about that and 2gb is not almost 1.2 gb, 1.9gb is almost 2gb.

I have done all the things in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632730
Everything "seemed" fine until I tried using WiFi, I actually have to hit the wifi button and then restart my phone for the wifi to actually work, weird...
Besides that, the phone has just been restarting itself and it's happening more and more. And lately, it's wicked slow with just about everything I try to do... its just super glitchy. So I thought that maybe starting from scratch would be the best way to make things right, and then re-root...
But doing this caused many questions while reading through the forum and I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction...
I guess the most important questions are:
Do I wipe the phone and do a clean install, going back to stock first?
If so, because I have followed the instructions in the link above, what are the exact steps so that I don't brick it?
Should I just buy a new phone?
If I did a clean install and then re-root will it run better than it is now?
I have many more questions but I think answering these first will help out a lot...
Thanks to whoever can help me out...
Android Version 4.3
Baseband Version I605VRUEMJ9
Kernel Version 3.0.31
Build Number JSS15J.I605VRUEMJ9
Edit: I installed the new Dodol Launcher and miraculously my WiFi is working again! So I uninstalled the Nova Launcher... I am happy that I can toggle my wifi settings once again =) But I read something extremely upsetting about 2mins ago in regards to the people with unlimited data which I have, and that is, we cannot use third party apps to tether the hotspot if we did the 4.3 update!!!??? Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that I couldn't tether because my phone is somehow screwed up, not because they blocked me from using it...

I would Odin back to stock.. Just make sure you don't Odin to mj9..BC then you will be locked.. So Odin back to ramc3 and then run casual and reunlock.. Sometimes a clean slate helps.. But it maybe the phone for whatever reason..
Never experienced any issues like that

Thanks lacoursiere18!
After I get back to ramc3 and reunlock do you know how can I stop the OTA from popping up and trying to get me to install it? I want to be able to tether a mobile hotspot, so I need to stay on this one (because of the unlimited data), I think...?
On another note (no pun intended), I was starting the backup process and noticed that the phone has 10.3GB of internal storage, but when I add up all the folders it only amounts to 2.24GB! Does that mean that the OS is taking up 8GB!??? It just seems like a bit much and I can't see anything, there were no hidden folders or system files that I could find either... weird...
To stop the nag on the update use titanium backup to freeze SDM 1.0

Try backing up your data and then reformat it through your phone settings. If that doesn't work you might want to reflash the ROM. Or go into the settings and remount it that way. But if it worked fine before you flashed the ROM I would reflash....

Ok. When I flash does it matter if I leave my sd card and simple in the phone? (The last time I took everything out)

I had no luck with the memory card back up because I had to format my sd card as expat for version 22. Do you know of any way I could email the developer of my Rom to see if there is a fix or update on the way to fix this. It says I have to wait to have 10 posts.

It has to be the something to do with the format of the memory card and the ROM. My twrp recovery reads that all of my stuff is still there. It's just the version of the ROM that doesn't. Any ideas?
