Hello,
I own an international SGS2. I'm new to custom ROMs and CM9 was the first one that I installed on my SGS2. It was a nightly build from 03.22.2012. It runs very smoothly, except for one detail: when I lock the screen, it takes like 3-4 seconds for it to wake up after I press a button. But while it is charging this doesnt happen; it responds immediately after I press a button. Any ideas on why this is happening and/or how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
PS: Ive tried many things, like uninstalling apps, changing launchers, different wallpapers, a few lockscreens, different ways of screen locking (face unlock, none, slide, etc..) and it happens no matter what I do!
Does ttöhe lag present even when you lock your phone and then right after that unlock it again?

If I do it fast it doesnt present. But if I let like two srconds pass, then the lag presents.
Any ideas??
Anyone?? :/
it takes time to wake up from deep sleep
thats why cm9 has amazing battery life
Thanks for your reply.
So this happens to everyone with CM9?
I don't have it I'm on latest build and I have horrible battery life

Is there a way to make the home button respond instantly?

It has something to do with the Voice control samsung built into the phone, people were saying you can freeze/ delete the app and your home button will be instant, i can personally vouch for this because I'm using CM7, a rom that doesn't have the voice control and my home button actually is instant.
it something to do with the processor and power management.
The delay is present in CM too but not as bad

I thought that had to do with the wakeup "lag" i.e. just waking the phone up from sleep, if you are talking about that yes its present in CM as well. I thought he was asking about home button when exiting out of apps and such, as i noticed a slight delay in that when i was using the stock rom.
I've froze voice commands with Bloat Freezer and this hasn't made any difference :/
Since KG1 firmware, home button lag has been solved. Home button acts normal now.
The OP hasn't explained what his problem actually is, so there's no point telling him to freeze apps!
@jameslfc5
Do you mean it takes a couple of seconds when the screen is off and you wake the phone with the home button, or do you mean it pauses when you're running an app and you press home to go back to your home screen?

It responds instantly when connected to a charger. So it must be software related. I haven't found any 2.3.3. or 2.3.4 ROMs that remove the lag entirely. I'm sure someone will figure it out though.
When connected to charger the phone does not sleep. So no lag.
I have same problem as OP.
Note - it's not the wake-up delay, which is also annoying. It's the regular "go back to home screen" delay when using the phone.
I'm running Cognition 1.31, and problem was present on Stock ROM, VillainROM, Cognition 1.15 and 1.31.
I had voice control only on Stock ROM, and don't have it now - no difference. Delay is about 0.5-1 second.
Super annoying. Makes it feel slow. Was not present on any of the SGS ROMs.
+1
I just think of an iPhone... it's better in only this thing
CM7 fixes it. I think I know what you mean, I had it in Cognition 1.31 and litee'ning rom. Now I don't or don't even notice it.

Yeah this is my exact problem I don't think removing voice command has helped to be honest

Did this actually get fixed in 2.3.4? The home button lag not the waking lag.
Nope.

if u r using CM then there is no home lag.
THe wakeup lag is still there but i would say very minimal
My Thunderbolt is rooted, and I have tried several different ROMs (some AOSP even) and different kernels, and still I get this strange problem... I use WidgetLocker and fairly often when I go to unlock my phone, the touch screen doesn't work. I have to turn the screen on and off several times and sometimes that works, but it may take up to several minutes for it to finally register my touch. I even sometimes have to pull the battery because after ten minutes, nothing is responding. At first, I thought it the ROM/kernel - I used BAMF in the beginning and that is when I noticed it. Then I switched to ShiftSense, and I barely noticed the touch screen ever failing on me, but the lack of GPS locking and accuracy made me switch to NonSense, which I enjoy but again the touch screen not working at the WidgetLocker lock screen comes up again. My other theory was maybe the HTC Ring Lock Screen gets in the way, so I downloaded NoLock and disabled it, but that didn't work. Then I tried use the WL HomeHelper, but that didn't work... I tried different settings, but no avail. I really enjoy WidgetLocker and I want to try to keep it, but I am not sure what other things I should try to fix this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
widget locker did that to me several times so I gave up on it. Its definitely a problem with widget locker and not your phone or ROM. It freezes. I even set it to unlock with long press of back button and that would freeze as well.
my phone does the same thing, i think its a problem with our phone and gingerbread. it happens less with froyo. I believe its a radio issue.

I have used widget locker on over 10 different android devices I've own. I've never had a freeze issue with it. Reason I've had freeze issue starting with low RAM device. Then voltage to low or cpu frequency to low.
Is there a good alternative with Widget Locker? I just love the use of my own custom slider/widgets/custom background... Does any other app do that? I sort of want to try another app and test to see if it is in fact my phone/RAM/ROM/whatever or Widget Locker.

take off or freeze widget locker for a few days and see how your phone does. If it doesn't freeze, then you know its the app.
As for the guy that has used widget locker on 10 devices without problems, I call BS, I tried it on stock, and several customs and always had problems.
I sort of like the features of WidgetLocker than my default lock screen doesn't have and the look of it, so if I turn it off, I sort of want to try to find a replacement app in the meantime.
I just wanted to chime in and say I have this issue with my Thunderbolt and Widgetlocker as well. I've found that it usually freezes if I let my screen turn off by timing out. I'll turn it back on and the screen doesn't respond at all. I've found that if I let my screen timeout again while on the Widgetlocker screen, my touch screen will be responsive the next time I turn it on again.

Same problem here, I stopped using widget locker and just use the sense 3 lockscreen now.
I just wanted to put in my two cents - I was have the same problems with WidgetLocker on BAMF Forever (1.0.7 & 1.0.9). I found another thread on here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151269) that someone with a BAMF Sense 3 ROM and a custom kernel was having the same issue. Someone else suggested upping the voltage on the kernel to 368 or changing the kernel. It didn't work for him, but it did for me. I'm not using a custom kernel, but there is an option to change that in BAMF Settings. I've been running it at 368 for several days now and I only had one lockup (but that was shortly after bootup and the phone was probably busy doing other things in the background). HTH
Hi guys,
I am currently on Checkrom v4 with darky kernel. Most of the time, when i open the phone from a sleep state or screen of state, the screen will not respond to unlock gesture. I have to turn the unit off for at least 2 times before the screen would eventually respond. Sometimes, when turn it of again, the will just turn black but with button lights open. Then after i turn it off again, the screen will eventually light up and respond.
I also have experience this with other samsung roms such as criskelo, batista which is why i always flash back to Cm7 wherein I don't experience this. BTW, i also dont seem to remember experiencing this on CM9... your thoughts would be appreciated... TIA
yeah buddie.i am facing the excact the same problem.............
dont know how to get rid of this........
Maybe it's kernel related?

This used to happen to me when I had a screen off profile enabled on SetCPU. If you're using SetCPU, try disabling it to see if that solves the problem.
I think i've found out what's causing this... it's the touch screen tune app... after.I removed this, it seems to be not freezing upon wake up of the device... HTH

What govenor are you using?
I'm new to the SGS2. Coming from my old SGS1 running ICS I couldnt go back to gingerbread.
Leaked ICS on SGS2= No custom kernels BUT!...
With root access and NS tools app you can tweak stock "Ondemand" govenor. Its at 100000micro seconds which is 10th of a second stock sampling rate. This is SLOW. Couple with waking from sleep and known On-demand delay issues I think this might be the culprit... Cant wait for sources
ok, so I read around the web and xda and didn't found any reasonable solution to this frustrating bug...
when the screen is of, it takes around 1-2 seconds to wake up...regardless if I press home button or power button...
I tried stock rom, flashed another samsung based, AOSP, AOKP and the lag is present on every rom...even with a fresh install, restored apps, installed everything manually...
tried removing sd card and still nothing
is anyone experiencing this also? is there a fix?
please help out, it is driving me crazy!!
btw can this be used to fix this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655
What's so important in your life that you can't wait one second?
Install an app to keep a wakelock and you'll have instant-wake. But get used to plugging your phone in.
BTW, linking to a kernel for the Samsung Vibrant and asking if it will help ... wow.
why the flame? no one is born perfect, not even you
it is annoying because the sg2 is the one of the best phones out there with impressive hardware and it sould be without bugs like this...
I linked that topic because there is something about this lag that may be helpful...
btw, xda search engine provided the link
JKAY's framework v 14.0
have you tried JKAY's new framework for ICS v14.0 .. it has a lot of new options and settings to personalize or S2 just the way u want it
including it has 2 precious options :
1)fast unlock ( can be found under lockscreen options >>set common options )
2)fast lock ( can be found under set misc settings )
I found a topic related to this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29994420#post29994420
so even though JKAY has this feature, it is not a fix but a battery drain...
the app softlocker cures it but does use a little more battery
I have zero lag at all.. You can try my setup in my signature if you care that much

When I press the home button/power button on my Galaxy S3 it takes 2-3 seconds before the screen turns on so i enter my password or pattern. I don`t mean turning the device on, but rather from having a black screen in "sleeping mode" and press the button to open the phone. Can someone help me by making it faster?
I didnt have that problem with my HTC Desire or any other Android mobile i had before.
I did a factory reset but still the same.
I have same problem. I tried different ROMS, kernels. Problem stays. Even I revert completely to factory state.
Delay on phone waking up is a known issue. If you mean lag when your screen is on and you press the home button, go into s-voice settings and disable the top setting.
I ment the wakin up thing ... it worked fine the past 2 weeks i had the phone but i noticed this thing today ... is there any solution for this ?

What roms have you tried so far?? I'm currently on Paranoid Android v2.18.1 and I'm experiencing no lags at all. I've also tried some other roms such as Wanamlite and Checkrom. Both of them worked perfect for me.

What about you otheres ... do you have the same problem?
any help?
try installing app called SoftLocker FREE from play store .. it worked for me
This has been evident in all Galaxy S models - you're going to have to get used to it.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
This lag is evident and it is usual because pur phone will go into 'deep sleep' mode to save extra battery juice and you certainly want that don't you? Since you are on stock ROM then you got no choice but to 'bare' with the lag. Unless you go custom such as Resurrection Remix ROM with have absolutely no lag. Paranoid android doesn't have the lags too.
Try it out yourself mate.

the app i posted earlier - SoftLocker FREE disables 'deep sleep', so there's no need to go custom. it works also on stock roms. I use it and the difference in battery drain isn't noticable at all.
Oh ok, I didn't know that cause I'm on custom

I used to have lag problems before rooting but ever since I rooted and flashed Omega 27.2, no lags whatsoever. What's strange for me is how we all run into varying issues when we are sharing pretty much the same hardware.
Just my thoughts.

I've found that turning the ripple effect on the home screen off helps a lot, reduces most of the lag I was experiencing.
