I have a Nexus one that is rooted and running CM7.
Last setup I used S2E and Link2SD to get away from memory limitations. All apps linked via Link2SD to Ext3.
I made a change that resulted in a number of apps disappearing and now I can not get RECOVERY to open (unit off, power and trackball to bring up white screen, BOOTLOADER then to RECOVERY to flash ROM, GAPPS, etc).
I have tried to flash using TERMINAL EMULATOR but always fails with errors.
The phone does start up and works but I can not download any Google Plays applications I have in my account (tried to download Titanium Backup to reinstall that way, would not work. Tried to download ROM Manager to get to recovery that way, would not download).
I use a MacBook Pro.
Can any one provide a road map for me to get this back in order?
My plan was to go to RECOVERY and flash CM7.
Thx
David

hey guys, so i was playing with titanium backup and i accidentally deleted google talk, which interfered with the market, and i cant download anything from there anymore
i am running on stock 2.1 rom, but it is androoted
i tried pushing the googletalk.apk into system/apps but it wouldnt let me, it said the partition is read-only
can someone please tell me how to reinstall google talk back?
oh and apparently i dont have a recovery image because i flashed clockwork and amonra with rom manager, but now i cant get rom manager back on through the market
and i do have a nandroid backup of when my phone was normal, but i cant flash cuz i dont have a recovery image
what should i do now?
thanks a lot
First things first... the recovery needs to be fixed.
Dl fresh copy of chosen recovery put in proper place
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxx.img
then get into recovery and reflash the rom you have. Don't wipe but clear dalvik/cache just reflash as long as its the same exact rom you had before.
im running the hero on fastboot usb, and running fastboot from cmd from the folder its in, and when i type erase recovery it says "erasing 'recovery'...FAILED remote: not allow
did you try any other executables -- we need to confirm you have a good setup. Can you do
fastboot reboot bootloader
and if it reboots when it comes back
fastboot erase recovery
if it erases - great - if not -- keep going (pick amon-ra if you were using cwm before just for this)
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
and if it flashes... great -- if not -- Plan B
Boot into the ROM and try to reflash Clockworkmod with the ROM Manager. If that fails -- then when in the ROM - run fix_permissions and just try to get it in working order. Be careful though -
if that still fails Do you happen to have a recent nandroid? Boot all four partitions in - recovery system boot and datauser and that will give you another shot at recovery.
Thirdly why dont you just extract the same gapps file that you last flashed... and just restore it piece by piece. If you only dissed Gtalk then put it back where it needs to be and reboot. Thats yet another way.
oh nvm i fixed it, installed rom manager and a few other apks through adb install, and through terminal emulator flashed clockwork, then flashed stock ROM
thanks for all your help!
Deleted Android Market with Titanium Backup.
I accidentally deleted Android Market app from my rooted Samsung Galaxy Pro using the Titanium Backup! I need it back. Any suggestions?
I tried downloading an apk file from somewhere, it installed but force closes every time I try to update something or download a new app. Says something like "com.android.vendor" has stopped.
Yes, I'm a noob and stupid coz I didn't watch what I was deleting.
I would like some help.
WHY DID THEY HIDE THE CAMERA TOGGLE BUTTONS???
I am stuck in a ROM.
CM-7.1.0-Backside-IHO-KANG.... that boots with a I.H.O animation...
I think it's evil. There was no Market APP on the phone? Pushed Market APK via SD card and it just force closes. Pushed ROM Manager via SD cardand it just force closes. Apps from other sources are enabled.
Without these apps I am stuck.
Recovery mode pretends to let me select options, but it always just loops and doesn't allow me to select any files to restore. A battery pull is always necessary.
Even recovery.flasher.v1.3 isn't recognized.
CM7 and MIUI were always smooth.
Any suggestions?
Never heard of the ROM you tried to flash and we don't have a miui ROM. Wrong device forum? For market try flashing gapps but seems like your recovery is borked so I can't help you there.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
To use Market you must have the GAPPS framework. This is a flashable zip that installs almost all Google apps on the market as well as their framework.
Edit: I saw your recovery problem, if the zip fails to flash, download the program I've attached (It's an .exe, just rename) and any recovery image you want (Must be *.img, if it's a zip, extract it), connect your phone in emergency mode (Power + Volume Up + Back), make sure the program recognizes the phone and, select the *.img in the "Recovery" field. Press "Download" and wait untill the phone reboots. After that you should have a fully functional recovery.
I'm stuck where even recovery flashers don't affect recovery mode. It just returns to a bonked recovery mode in which I can select something, but nothing happens once the option is selected.
I am still unable to flash GAPPS or anything to this phone.
Right now it's just bare bones and I can't un Market or ROM Manager to make it a functional phone.
Try to install the latest official firmware (Search the dev section for 2.3 KDZ)
Very fine ROM , but you need to flash the Gapps Zip, either the 6/16 or 8/20 version. It will have you log in to your Google Market and downloadd your Titanium Backup / Restore to retrieve all of your Apps. and Data (DO NOT RESTORE ANY SYSTEM FILES). Enjoy.
never heard of this rom. some details?
CM-7.1.0-BACKside-IHO-KANG
Alcohol can be a mind numbing good-time.
You know, I just rediscovered them camera toggle buttons that I used a few months back.
The ROM is fine. I just drink too much...
Hi,
I have a rooted (using Indirect's method, I believe, with help from Albert W.'s video) Nook Tablet 16GB. I'd like to try a custom ROM and installed GooManger (1.2.1). I can download a recovery file (openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1 -blaze.img), and it says it installed it, but when I try to boot into recovery ("Reboot recovery" option) it just reboots normally. If I try to browse compatible ROMs, it says "No roms were found".
Googled but could not find an answer. I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction!
Thanks,
Pat

I think you're trying to use the wrong recovery file. Try downloading CWM or TWRP from the links listed in the first post of this thread -- I've used both with no problems on my NT.

Removing CM9
HELP! I installed CM9 on my nook tablet 8gb and I am not happy with it. I want to take it back to stock so I can load CM7. HOWEVER I cannot find a single website with this information. I keep trying to power it off and then hold the power and n to no avail. The cyanoboot menu just loads and I cant load any of the ROMs. Its really pissing me off and I would like to just get rid of this os. Can anyone help?

You don't need to go back to stock to downgrade from CM9 to CM7. All you need to do is boot into recovery and flash the new ROM. With that being said, it would be well worth your time to start by installing Titanium Backup and backing up your system before you do anything else... That will let you restore any apps you've downloaded and want to keep (along with their settings and data), which will eliminate one headache after you flash the new ROM...
Review this thread from Lavero.Burgos about installing a customer recovery on your tablet. You've already got one installed if you're running CM9, but the thread has got lots of really good info, and if you have the Clockwork Mod 6.x recovery installed, you need to replace that with Clockwork Mod 5.x to flash CM7.
Next, check this thread from Celtic Web Solutions. The link to the internal CM7 ROM is in the first thread, along with the instructions for installing this ROM to your emmc (internal) storage.
Now, when you start you tablet, instead of holding Power + n to boot into recovery, wait for the Cyanoboot splash screen to open (the one that says CYANOBOOT, not the animated CM9 splash screen), then press and hold the n button until the boot menu appears. From here you can select to boot normally into CM9, into your internal recovery, or into a recovery.img loaded on your SD card. Select one of the recovery options, and you should be able to do a nandroid backup of your device, then install CM7. Since you're changing to a completely new ROM, I strongly recommend that you do a factory wipe/reset as well as wiping the cache partition and Dalvik cache.
NOTE: There's a big difference between an Titanium Backup backup and a Nandroid backup! You'll want to do both as you go through this. Titanium Backup will take a snapshot of your apps (including the settings and data associated with them) that you can restore after installing the new ROM. Super helpful, since you don't have to re-install everything from the Play Store, nor do you lose data like savegames, etc. Nandroid runs from recovery mode, and will do a complete image of your system, including the ROM. It protects you in case you run into a major problem while flashing a new ROM -- it's saved my life a couple of times...
This worked for me.
Took out battery for about 5 minutes, insert batt, Hold vol up + power to get into download mode. Use a $5 jig from ebay/amazon if you want to force download mode. This phone is almost impossible to brick. Only physical damage can brick.Since this is an old phone the issue for recovering from a soft brick is really non availability of required files.
When you have a soft brick like this ..ie., stuck in 3e recovery. Even if you odin back to stock you cannot get into recovery (stock or cwm). You are permanently hardware locked out of recovery. Once stock odin'd to eclair or froyo phone will boot up into that rom fine but you cannot get into recovery and you cannot root. At this stage odin Darky resurrection which is available in tar/pit format. It is a rooted kernel/rom combo. Since iam a new user forum did not allow me to paste any external links here. Google for "Install Darky ROM 10.2 Resurrection" and pick first link.
Now you have rooted kernel and nice rom but still no recovery. From market download some apk installer that works with darky. I just searched for apk installer and picked the first one. Just downloading rom manager may not work since rom manager does not support older versions like eclair/froyo anymore.... Google for "com.koushikdutta.rommanager.apk" and download this apk from some cyber graveyard..Install this apk, open installed rom manager and select reboot into recovery. Now finally i had working recovery and could flash any zip , wipe format etc.. Good luck.
tip: odin must be setup (select files, uncheck boxes..) before getting phone into download mode. Otherwise odin will get stuck. Just re-start all over if this happens.
Hi! I've just rooted my device (Nexus 5) with Chainfire auto setup and I've downloaded Superuser by Clockworkmod. When I opened it up, it showed a message saying that I needed to update the SU binary, I went back to the Play Store, I read the description and I found a link, that allows me to install it from a recovery files. Once I downloaded it I opened the app again using the recovery files, Android crashed and rebooted itself, but during the boot it showed a dead android image (the one with the red triangle). I've turned off my device (Nexus 5) and then I've reboot it, now all works fine. I'm terribly scared, what the hell happened? It's my fault or Superuser just crashed?

You didn't do any damage to your device. What it seems like is that you only have root access and not a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod or TWRP so when you went back to the app it went to boot you to recovery to install them and it rebooted you to the stock recovery which does not allow installation of files that aren't signed with a specific factory key. You should be able to update the binary with the normal install mode on the Nexus without issues. If you want a custom recovery, there are various ways to do it, but the easiest would be with the GooManager app (free in the Play Store) where you grant it SU access, hit Menu > Install OpenRecoveryScript and let it do it's thing. Then when you boot to recovery, you will have a version of TWRP. This is a great custom recovery. Touch based, Fast. Allows you to back up all the important parts of the phone so you have a system backup - called a nandroid (which you should do and save to a safe spot) as well as install custom versions of android, themes, kernels, and all types of other mods as well as a way to do a complete factory and /sdcard wipe if ever needed.
Thanks GOD!

That's why I love XDA Developers, because there are people that knows what they are saying! Thank you so much. Now I'm wondering if I should install a recovery mod as you suggested. Do you think I have to install Tasker as well? My first idea was to install Xposed modules, after rooting my device, but when they say "be careful it could **** UP your device" I wonder "Why the hell you should say that when I want to install them?", so I still think about that. Thank you again!

Tasker is not necessary for any of this. Tasker is for automating your phone to do certain tasks under specific conditions you set up. Such as setting your phone to turn on wifi based on location. You certainly don't NEED a custom recovery, but if you like to play with your phone, then it is a great way to be able to make a complete backup to restore in case of emergency. When you install and activate the Xposed framework, it will also create a zip file on your storage that will disable it while flashed through a custom recovery. If things go super wrong, you can also restore the phone via PC using fastboot tools and factory img files from Google. What I like to do is:
Download factory img files and set up adb and fastboot
Root
Recovery
Nandroid
Backup Nandroid and complete storage to PC
Flash whatever roms or mods
If it completely bricks and you lose access to storage then restore system from PC then redo recovery, copy files and nandroid back to storage and restore backup
bam - back in business.
