[Q] Total Newbie - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Root the phone - is this effectivly hacking the phone to improve it?
ADB driver - Following from Doomsday V4 script, its says install the adb driver but what is this
Does rooting it mean i dont have to upgrade to V2.1 from PC companion
Finaly, The phone is locked to vodafone, how can i unlock it and do i need to unlock it before i root it.
Thanks for all the help in advance

posible but if you want to flash custom roms it might require the latest android version.

no need to SIM-unlock it. you can root with sim locked phones. but again there are problems if you want to install custom roms.
btw, welcome to the android world and minis planet.

Adb (Android Debugging Bridge) is the way that your phone communicates with your pc. It is one of the programs included in the android sdk(software development kit if i am not mistaken). Many script that devs write rely on this program to communicate with your device. This program uses the debugging option to communicate with the pc.

[Q] need help on updating my x10a to 2.3.3

Hello, I am very new to smartphones and I need some help about a few things. I tried to find some answers on the forums first before posting, but the amount of new information is quite staggering and I got confused in no time. If I missed any important information for newbs like me please direct me there. I do have good knowledge of PC and programming in general, but so far nothing at all about smartphones.
I have an unlocked Xperia x10a, not rooted, originally from Rogers in Canada now using Fido. I'm running Windows XP SP3 on my PC. I just found out that a month ago Sony Ericsson released a new android update for it that's 2.3.3, but mine is still 2.1.1 and PC Companion says there are no updates when I checked today. Does anyone know if it's officially available in Canada yet?
1. "Carrier-Free"
While I was reading the Sony Ericsson blog about the 2.3.3 upgrade, I noticed it mentioned that the device must be "carrier-free". Is this where "debranding" comes in? I found a link to a website about it:
An easy guide to debranding your handset
but most of the recent comments on there are saying it no longer works. The author made and update that mentioned another way of doing it entirely using the PC companion's "repair" function. Can anyone confirm if that's still a safe way to do it? If not, what's the most common and safest way to do it, and is it absolutely necessary for getting the upgrade?
2. "Flashing"
Is it harmful to my phone by any chance? I'd rather not touch it if there's a good chance that it will break my phone. My understanding so far is that if I want the update or to root my phone this is required? Is the Flashtool found HERE still safe to use today for updating to 2.3.3?
Sorry for the long post, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Thanks in advance as I try to cram the beginner stuffs in.
Using flashtool is probably the best way for you to get Android 2.3 on your phone.
All you have to do is download and install flashtool on your computer.
There are a numerous number of guides on here that can help you.
Sent from my x10 Platinum
Simplest way to do is root your phone using flashtool, then ask permission and install Xrecovery.
Then flash your decided custom 2.3.3 ROM via Xrecovery.
All you have to do is read, read all instructions related rooting 2.1 and flashing new rom on X10 android development carefully.
Just ask me if you need some help.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yay the 2.3.3 update was released on PC companion today for my phone, so I guess no need to go through the flashing process now
But I guess I will still try to root the phone after the update finishes, so I can get rid of those annoy carrier-bundled apps that keeps running no matter how many times I try to stop them...

[Q] Trying to uprgade Beetel Magiq

I am trying to install Android 2.3 in Beetel Magiq. This tablet is basically Huawei Ideos s7 ( not the SLIM one). Currently its on Android 2.2.
If anyone can advice which ROM will be good for this upgrade, it will be great.
Can Cyanogenmod 7.1 be installed on this? Anyone tried?
The Beetel Magiq is not rooted. So you cannot upgrade ROM. Any effort to root the phone will brick the phone since there are no proper tools available to root this phone. My Beetel magiq II was bricked by my attempt and presently with Beetel for service..!
Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
Dear Devs/Geniuses ,
my bro too has bought beetel magiq 2 and is looking for rom upgrade, any updates on it, I know there are lots of geniuses out there busy with some or the other dev. but I would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on it.
Thanks in advance.
Rooting Beetel Magiq II
Hi friends just rooted the Beetel Magiq II. Had asked beetel customer care for usb drivers they said they don't have drivers. I took it as challenge but with risk to root my device.at the outset let me say that do whatever with your own risk I am not responsible if your device bricks (hard or soft).
Steps for rooting
1) first you would require drivers for the tablet as beetel has not provided with any CD for drives. So you have to download the drivers for the same. Since you all know that it is Huawei Ideos s7 tablet,we will download the drivers from huawei website. it is ~13 mb file. download and extract the file at location. attach the ideos tablet to pc or laptop. it would ask for driver location so access the folder that you created and depending on your system XP, W7 or vista. Alternatively go to device manager and it would show drivers not installed for ideos tablet just right click and select update drivers it would ask for location and according update drivers. It is important to update drivers before rooting.
.
2)Then download Super One Click Root Appv.1.9.1 and save it on your desktop.)
3)Now go to phone settings and enable USB Debugging.
4) Once this is done, launch SuperOneClick.exe by double clicking. Now click on Universal tab on screen
5) Now simply click on Root tab and wait for the process to finish. It will take some time so hang in there. In between it would ask some options click on right options, which would be easy.
6)After the rooting is complete, click Allow Non Market Apps if you need to.
There you go! you now have a rooted handset ready to accept any custom ROM.
7) download root checker basic and check to confirm that your device is rooted on not.
Hope this would help you
regards

Instead of asking random one to unlock it why not flood sony's forum instead asking about it while stating that sony allows this already for sony mobiles.
nothing gonna happen here because people here can't wave their magic wand and unlock the device.
Please check this tread it realy works on 4.1.1

Root and unlock bootloader success for Huawei U8686 Prism II
T-Mobile branded Prism II (Huawei U8686) purchased with bootloader locked. Rooted using Cydia Impactor from Ubuntu Linux host computer via USB ADB connection. Bootloader unlocked from same host computer using required code from manufacturer. Huawei has a form on their website for bootloader unlock code requests but the U8686 is not included. I searched the world wide web and found a success story about contacting Huawei for the bootloader unlock code. Here's the (template) email request:

[Q] gt-i9300 ROOT on 4.3 with linux ?

Is it possible ? Since framaroot and towelroot didn't work and I only have a Linux computer and no Windows avaliable. I couldn't find the solution online and I know there are a lot of skilled people on here . Hope someone can help and hello everyone !
I've never personally had to use it as I've either used my windows computer or windows running in virtualbox(also another method you could try), but there is JOdin3. It's an opensource java implementation of Odin. So get yourself a root zip and try it out!
Thanks a lot ! Could someone write a quick guide for debian linux as I dont wanna brick my phone ?
There are several guides for windoes which thanks to JOdin3 would work the same, there are also video guides available for JOdin3. Is there anything specific you are unsure about?
Ok i downloaded the cf-autoroot zip for s3. So now lets say I flash it . Do I need to install a custom recovery, unlock the bootloader or something else in order to install a custom rom like androod revolution hd ?
Bumpity bump?
You would have to flash a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM in order to install a custom rom, yes. Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy and forgot to check back in
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will**automatically "OEM unlock" and*wipe your data.
Should I be worried about this?
