Lumia 800 wear and tear - After 3-4 months of use - Nokia Lumia 800

Just wondering, how's everyone else's lumia holding up? I've been using mine for about 3-4 months now (I have a black one) and here are the things i noticed:
Chrome on the back is without a doubt scratched.
Black body has begun to have a shiny "sheen" to it. (body oils/in out of the pocket?) edges are especially getting shinier.
Screen has some play in it: it can shift from side to side a lil bit.
Anyone else noticing these traits? I dont use a case.

My screen is totally scratched, but everything else works fine for me. Battery is also good. 3 Days of using isn't a problem.

My screen is scratched as hell. But thats my fault for taking it on holiday and playing fruit ninja on the beach.
Sand beats Gorilla glass hands down.
Back chrome is also scratched despite having it in a snap on case from new.

...really? I've had mine for a few months and it's in perfect condition. Back chrome is like new and screen is great. I've had it in the included case since day one.

Mine is holding up perfectly (got it the 15th of january I think.. or a little bit earlier actually..). No scratches on the screen, it is in perfect condition. I do however have som skratches at the metal plate on the backside in the middle, but the chassis itself is almost untouched from this. I do however have a bump on the lower left corner of the chassis since I lost it in a concrete floor, but nothing serious and it still looks fantastic.
All in all, perfectly.. or much better than my old HTC Desire HD at least. I was amazed when the Lumia survived with just a small bump from the fall from almost 1.5 meters into concrete. I am pretty sure my HTC would have died instantly.

Mine is holding up fantastically.
The only 'damage' is from a pretty hard fall that it took while in the silicone case. Tiny chip out of the corner near the audio jack. There's also a very small, very short scratch on the glass, above the display, from the same fall. With a very clean screen and the right light, a few scratches can be seen that look like hairs that you want to blow off.
Aside from that, any time I think there's a scratch, it just turns out to be a blemish that rubs right off.

Had mine since December and it still looks like new.
Lets be honest, if you have a Nokia Lumia and its damaged at this stage, any other phone you would have had would most likely be even worse.

Yeah the Lumia is definitely better built than the HTC phones, my HD7 was a mess after a few months but my Lumia is still like new.

Same here. Still looks great. Chrome plate on the back has a few micros scratches, but thats it.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Mine's also in perfect condition. I bought a pair of XtremeGuard back/front clear protector and put a piece of clear tape over the chrome camera part

My power button does not work as of today. I have the factory case on my phone and dropped it from about knee height (while I was sitting in a tiny chair) and the power button ceased to function. I am incredibly angry because I'm in Beijing and it's an import from HK.

Mine, 3 month old, is in prestine condition apart from a few microscratches in the chrome cameraplate. Always naked.
(On A side note I managed to bring a drowned 800 of a colleague back to life. After it had been dropped in a pool of water on a Saturday I got my hands on it on Tursday and it was litterally dead... No pulse whatsoever!
I thought it was gone for sure so I thought it would be good pratice to take it completely apart. While I had it complety disassembled I carefully dried away the remaining water (yes there was still water inside it) and left it to dry a few hours.
Then I reassembled it and to My surprise I got a small beep when I connected the battery, so my hopes where going up as I finished the assembly. I then connected the charger but it was still silent.... No reaction.....
But then after 5 minutes on charger I saw a battery icon and after an additional 10 minutes it actually booted.... But then rebooted, and rebooted.... About 4 times and then it settled by itself. Then I could start to explore the phone and it was a mess. Partial old data was still there and some apps where partly gone. But a simple hard reset brought it back to life this is two weeks ago and it is still running flawlesly, much to the surprise of both me and the owner of the phone.
He did everything wrong after the initial accident, trying to start and charge and left it assembled. For 3 full days.
I was quite possitively surprised of how well the modules was fitting together again after the operation. I is quite obvious that Nokia has many years of top notch industrial design behind them. )
Very sturdy design!

My Own - Purchased Nov 2011, No Case; No skin..
Good lord, I can't top the last story - phenomenal recovery!!
On mine..
RM-801 Unlocked
I use a holster case, but no hard case on the phone itself nor do I use the sleeve that came with the phone.
Screen: Microscratches but these are only visible when I use a damp microfiber cloth to clean it every few days. When I dry it, the scratches are no longer visible.
Back chrome - scratched to hell, but NO damage on the Zeiss lens! I do try to lay it down on a microfiber cloth though when possible..
Damage:
TWO falls when I was screwing around taking pictures. In both cases, the screen assembly separated slightly disabling the proximity sensor (disastrous for phone calls!) so got my Torx screw driver and Krazy Glue out and followed instructions someone has on YouTube - and both times the phone has restored completely perfectly.
Thank GOD..
* Glass didn't shatter either of the two falls - the corners on the polycarbonate body are just a bit chewed up especially from Fall #1 which occurred on concrete.
* Note that the little door that all the 1st reviewers were worried about has never come close to snapping off even during the fall events. The sliding door with the SIM Card came out both times, but with no damage. .

the back metal chrome was scratched on week 1 but its the same for all polished metals, I buffed it back out with some metal polish and a cloth, as far as I can tell 1 month in its still good, and judging the fact the phone was launched into space and came back to earth and working proves testament to it integral robustness and interoperability of environments.

The chrome on the back is heavily scratched of course.
I have 2 very very small scratches on the screen because of two falls. Both are very small though and I never ever notice them unless I look for them.
The biggest damage is on the body. It happened when I dropped my phone from 1.5m and it hit the ground extremely hard at the corner of the phone where the 3,5mm jack is. The 3,5mm jack held up luckily enough considering the fall it had which can be seen on the image below.

Other than that it is totally mint! The build quality is excellent.

Really? I have had my DHD for over a year before switching to the Lumia 800, it is still in near-new condition. How do you find the 800 battery in comparison to the DHD? I am finding the 800 to be considerably worse...

That story about bringing back the drowned Lumia back to life is amazing. Goodjob. Anyways, has anyone with an oily phone tried cleaning it with 99% alcohol to see if it gets rid of it? Also you guys could try for a brushed metal look on that chrome piece on the back if the scratches bother you. Like this:

I post the last photo showing the original screen protector on my phone only to prove that i installed my screen protector by myself without a single air bubble up to my friends can't get that there is a protector on my screen and what happened with the Invisible Shield was not due to lake of experience
if you are going to buy Invisible Shield u have to know:
Invisible Shield Disadvantages
1-it is not 4 ur phone.
2-it collects dirts.
3-it peels off.
all of that = UGLY
The only advantage 4 me : it makes ur phone less slippery in ur grip ( BUT to consider to buy on every month )
I have a TP2 with a shield on it. The Zagg Corporation is based in SLC, Utah which is very close to me. I have a shield on all of my things and it is one of the best products ever made. You or whoever put that on does not know what they are doing! FYI the shield has a lifetime warranty. You do not keep buying it!
You cant be serious. Do you sell the generics on ebay?? There has to be more to this because the cuts are insanely worng on that thing!! You sell the generics on ebay and are looking to boost sales? Thats all i can figure
Anyways, was going to actualy order 2 of those for the tilt 2's but now i need to do a little more research. By the looks of it, it seems you are very rough with your phone, but thats not really what this is about. Bubble wrap might be a better wrap for you LOL
Anyone else with the product - IS IT really cut as bad as THAT ????
Nope.
I've had my shield for two months so far and it doesn't look anything like this. First of all it was cut ok - it fits my unbranded TP2 precisely. Second - I haven't got a single bubble, only few little marks in places where phone has been hit hard. And I'm not writing this because I'm a Zagg fan - I'm not. I'll be changing the whole phone casing for black/red in some time and I'd like to try Bodyguardz now.
I have the budyguardz on my Tilt it turn to yellowish after 3 months.
I just purchased this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280410139530&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT for my Tilt 2.
It stated that it will not change color over time.
Hopefully it is true.
I have had multiple full body invisa shields for multiple phones (tilt, iphone, fuze) and I have NEVER had one look like this after 2 weeks. That looks more like what mine have looked like after about 8 months. You obviously did a HORRIBLE job applying this to your phone. Where did you purchase yours? Mine fits just as it should. Anyone thinking about purchasing one please disregard this "review" of the product. My Fuze looks just as good as it did on the day I bought it after switching to my Tilt2 and removing the old skin.
In wrong place

I'm in the Middle East i ordered it from official agent of ZAGG Invisible shield i am very careful with my phone i always put it in the custom leather case that came with i never put it in my pockets without this case, it my be due to the temperature & humidity (high in my country)i rather this one i don't have any explanasion.
Thats how mine looks...
First shield application however.
And thats after.... um since the tp2s first days from telus
I dont mind tho.

I bought a ClearProtector (unbranded version) and tried to put it on a Tilt 2, and failed miserably. It was the right shape and size, but try as I might I just could not get the corners to fit correctly.
Interestingly enough, ClearProtector is in Draper, UT which is a suburb of SLC, UT. Maybe they share office space with Zagg?
I had a Mogul for which I bought two Zagg Shields because I had to get warranty refurbs. While I was waiting for my second refurb to come in and before purchasing a third Zagg Shield, an associate of mine told me he never applied a screen protector and never had an issue. So I decided to forgo the protector for the third refurb, figuring I'd probably have to get another along the way.
When I upgraded to the Diamond, I didn't bother. I didn't bother with my new TP2. My assistant put the in-box screen protector on, and his screen is less sensistive than mine and it looks less sharp.
Is the screen protector even necessary? I stash mine on a belt clip holder (nerdy yes, but functional) and I haven't had any issues with scratches and whatnot. Is the screen protector a force of habit or a real necessity?
I, too, was once like you.
I had screen protectors on my Blue Angel, and on my Universal.
I then got my Kaiser and had a screen protector on that, but it peeled one day and I thought I'd try without it. I managed for about 6 weeks but one day it fell out of my in-car holder, and landed screen-first on the runners for the seat in the car.
Result? One big scratch on the screen.
Though the phone still worked and the touchscreen was ok, using a stylus was annoying as it would jump over the scratch and make things less fluid.
If I'd have had a screen protector on there, I would have simply had to replace that.
Since then, I'm sticking to screen protectors. It's a necessary evil.
Man the shield in those pics look disgusting lol~
Thanks for sharing. : )
I have always used them with no issues what so ever, and I live on the ocean front! Also, you can remove it, soak it in water, and reinstall it if you know what you are doing. Patience is a virtue when installing it..... I have had one on my Athena too for 5 years now with no problems either!Mine fits much better than the one that you show..... Later
the cuts on the shield are not perfect but provide enough protection to prevent scratches...I got the all body protector and had the screen protector but cleaned with alcohol and damaged the screen protector...my fault though...I am quite pleased with this product..
How come that
Even if i was harsh with my shield (which is not true )
can any one explain to me why the shield did not fit my phone as i illustrate in the following photos:
in this photo you will see that the shield edges not aligned with the phone lines.
and in this one i try to demonstrate how the shield was more taller than my phone as the red line shows the actual extension of the shield before i cut the excess material i also draw the actual position of the hand strap hole which located over the mini USB (the red one) before i made the ugly (yellow one)
You're kidding, right?
Tha shield material is flexible. I think you pulled too hard while applying to the device.
Mine is ok, though I was hoping for a better shield - the most important places to protect are the corners and the shield does a bad job in protecting them.
Also I use the original screen protector, not the invisible shield one because it's not smooth enough to slide the pen over the screen.
So, invisible shield - which by the way is NOT invisible - does protect the device half, but it is cut well for the form of the device.
I had Zagg full body shield on my TP1 and after a few months it actually started peelign as well. The screen part was actually ok, but the back started peeling just like on the pictures above. So I am not surprised.
i actually waiting on UPS as we speak...!!! I originally ordered a bodygardz, after a week went by, they sent me an email stating they canceled my order, but did not provide an explanation...i called customer service repeatedly....alas, I was greeted w/ voicemail...still havent rcvd a call back...will never do business w/ them again....
hopefully this invisible shield works out for me... :-/
I use invisible shield too for the tp2 and I know its pain in the ass applying it but once done properly and after a week (all bubbles go away) it looks worth it and definitely not like the one on the pictures posted here.

Case Mate Pop! Evo 3D Kickstand Case

It's $20 on amazon. The forum won't let me post pictures of it or links.
Does anyone have one, how sturdy is the kickstand, kinda looks a little flimsy to me? Also, can it withstand being dropped, saying on the corner of the phone? I know they make similar cases for other phones, and could only find a couple of youtube videos, but the guy didn't have the phone in the case nor try the kickstand out.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I went out and got it. It does cover the speaker, but it doesn't muffle the sound at all, or make it lower. The case is a pita to take off though, but I'm not planning on taking it off and on. I couldn't find a case that was a hybrid and had a kickstand besides this one. It has a raised edge over the front screen, so you dont have to worry placing it front facing on a surface. The cameras are also sunken into the case, so those will not get scratched from setting it down on it's back. The kickstand works in all three positions. So if you want to charge it while watching a movie you can. The kickstand may feel flimsy, but it locks into place and does the job. It has rubber at the end on it to make sure it stays put.
Overall it's a great shock absorbing case with a kickstand. I had a speck candy shell for my iPhone, and it saved my phone numerous times getting out of cars and trucks with my phone on my lap and forgetting about it and it hits the asphalt, and I'm confident this case will do the same.

This case from CaseMate blocks the speaker on the back
I got this case for free at the place I got my 3D cause they took days to get me a replacement handset. I've used it once and will never use it again. It is hard to put on and a pain in the ass to take off. It latches on to your battery door like a pit bull and contorts it when trying to take it off. The kickstand seems really frail too.

It REALLY was a major pain to take off. Impossible for someone who plans on swapping out batteries a lot. And it also made it extremely difficult to turn the phone on and off via the power switch. I'm sending it back.
I'm going to get this one when I get refunded for the Casemate.

Yeah, I don't plan on swapping batteries. I rather have something that's going to protect my phone from drops, seeing how I do that a lot when getting out of the car,
i work for sprint so i get to test cases and other stuff out all the time. this case is sweet looking on the phone, although its a little bulky. as stated before on this thread, its a pain in the a** to take off and its a pain to turn on and off via the power switch. the kickstand is very very flimsy as well. too bad cuz this is the sweetest looking case out there with a kickstand.
comes in black also.
I ordered one and it showed up today, I'm definitely a fan. I had one of the cheap snap together cases, and sadly that actually scratched the phone cause it didnt fit tight enough to keep dirt out.. this is so much better. feels so much more solid in my hands, and well protected. swapping batteries.. yeah it makes that a pain. but it's a price I'm willing to pay. And the kickstand seems flimsy but it does the job, I have a hard time believing it'll be a problem cause it's actually so flexible, probably pretty hard to break it.

Yes there is. the rubber is very soft on the inside so I got a razor blade and cut the section out rite over the speaker sound is a lot better now.

If you open it all the way, it locks, then you're able to stand it on it.
Ive had this case (black) for 2 or 3 weeks. Its very tight on the phone, I like that it fits well and wont fall off. I do usually have to use a butter knife on the bottom (no buttons to ruin) to pry it off. I love it. Ive seen it in Black White and Pink. Got it on ebay for $20. The kick stand is kinda flimsy, but hasnt fallen off yet. Hope this helps.
It is a great case I have had mine for a few weeks the only problem I have with it is it will block a little bit of the 4g signal. I have tested it its not a big issue but is ur signal is week it will kick u off 4g

I got one a couple days after it came out and immediately returned it without taking any pictures of it. The proximity sensor stopped working while in the case but worked once taken out, there were tiny scratches and residue of some kind on the screen protector. I've spent a lot of money on a lot of cases over the years and I think this is the most disappointed I've been. For the price I was expecting more, I feel it's definitely over-priced. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

I don't need a waterproof case all the time, just for certain occasions. I ended up getting one of the RedPepper waterproof cases for less than 1/2 the price and I'm happy with it. The only draw back is you can't access the s-pen. I stuffed it with paper towels and left it under water for 10 minutes and they were still dry.

I got my case yesterday after waiting almost 4 weeks. I use the proximity sensor to wake up my screen and I've noticed that with most apps that the proximity sensor fails, but there are couple apps that works with the proximity sensor even with the obex case on. Right now, I'm using the obex case with no problems at all including the proximity sensor working just fine.
Touch sensitivity is also very good. This is with using a glass screen protector (feather) along with the built in screen protector. If fits perfectly and doesn't interfere at all with the sensitivity. I was going to take off the screen protector because I've heard that it will interfere with the sensitivity, but I have a thin glass one and it's working the same as before the case was on. I think it can work with thick glass (over .4mm) screen protector as well, but problem is I don't think it will fit within the case since it's already a tight fit with even with a thin one.
Anyway, a very good case IMHO. Only con is the horrible backorder status (you'll probably have to wait a while for Seidio to ship it) and the price is still overpriced no matter how good it is.

Thanks for the review. I am still in the air on water proof case.... I just need something water resistant for swim and fishing season. I dont plan on taking it in the water... but be close to it with a phone is always bad.
I did find this in my search.... makes me wonder.

If waterproof is a necessity, I would plunge for the obex. I did the water test before I put my phone in the case and it's pretty flawless. Some water will seep in through the port area, but the actual inside is very dry.
I can't really say for sure for other brands as this is my first waterproof case, but I would be cautious of other brands especially nameless ones. But like you said, if it's just to cover from light water or splashes, I would say go for a case that just covers the whole phone (including ports). Just make sure not to drop it in water. ]
Also, I know that I said the price is a con, but in the end, that's just subjective so take that with a grain of salt lol.
As requested by the OP, here are some pictures. Please forgive me for the incredibly crappy quality as I took these pictures with a 4 year old Xperia device. The camera is not too great on it unfortunately.
Hopefully someone does it a proper review and provides better pictures than I do. These pictures really don't give justice to how sleek the actual case is.
I'm glad someone is having better luck than I did with the Obex case. For $30 I'm completely happy with the RedPepper case, I've tested it again for 20 minutes (instead of 10) underwater and it's still dry inside.
How deep in the water did you go? Will it just float? What about a toilet fall?
Any practical test? Not just a glass of water or bowl.

The last time I tested it I was ice fishing on Monday (with it 70 degrees out, in shorts and a t-shirt), I tied some extra line to the lanyard, weighted it and left it in 3 feet of water for 20 minutes total. This was just with paper towel in the case. I'll check tonight and see if it floats with the phone in it. I'm not willing to drop my case in the toilet, sorry, I'd want a new case afterwards.

You did enough to convince me. Im totally sold... now to just wait for the case to hit 30-50 bucks. $80 is too large. I'll get a cheaper one till then.
As for a toilet fall... i'm looking an impact before water submersion is all. Most of the time it hits the inner bowl first. BUT who text will standing over the toilet... i would never admit to that one. Same thing with the swimming pool... slip, side of the pool... bounces into water.

You'll be happy with the RedPepper case. I mostly got mine for fishing and swimming. If it gets wet it will only be for a few seconds anyway but I wanted to test it to see how waterproof it actually is when left under water.
Seidio case is getting sent back. 3 ft of water about a minute water inside..... Such a bummer... all seals check and left it in a bowl of water for 15 minutes when i first got it no issues maybe 3 feet was to much for it....

My Phone Fell Today

I reach rehearsal a little late and was hurrying to get set up and put my 6P on my keyboard and completely forgot it was there. About 5 minutes into the rehearsal the vibrations from the bass in the rehearsal room and my playing seems to have caused the phone to slowly move about until it fell [emoji15].
After all those bend tests and scare tactics I'd seen here and on reddit I swore the phone was done for. It took a 4 foot drop onto a thin carpet. I'm not sure which part of the phone made impact, I just heard the thump and had that sinking feeling because I'm usually WAY more careful than this. It's always these kinda scenarios where I'm late or rushing when my devices get dropped. Anyhow, long and short, the phone is perfectly fine. Not a ding or scratch to be seen or felt. The device didn't bend or implode and all components work exactly as they did before.
Decided to write this post so those worrying can relax a bit. The phone is as durable as you'd expect it to be!

With all the kids sitting on their phones, and slamming the 6P on tables to break the back glass, you'd almost expect it to implode Thanks for sharing this, and glad it's ok!
I noticed a microscopic scratch on my screen today. I've been pretty careful with the phone. Never put it face down or in pockets with coins/keys. So just an FYI it probably is pretty easy to scratch the screen if you're not careful with it.
Glad everything is OK!
Dropped mine 4 times now and it's fine

Coins and keys will not scratch glass. Metal is softer than glass. Get some silica (sand/dirt/etc) in your pocket or a surface that you put the display side down on and accidentally grind it in and that definitely will.
Edit: that said. I keep my phone pocket clean and empty. If you drop your phone on concrete or pavement or the ground, DO NOT WIPE THE DISPLAY OFF! Blow the dirt off first before you cause friction wiping it. Then very carefully remove the rest. Make sure to keep your pockets dirt free. Shake them inside out if you suspect you got dirt in them.

gorilla glass 4...harder to shatter at the expense of some scratch resistance
http://www.evolutivelabs.com/blogs/news/17122293-gorilla-glass-3-vs-4
First drop test of my phone last night. Using a clear case and have a Slickwraps with a glass screen protector. Dropped it off my lap getting out of the car onto the top of the phone and fell face down in the rocks. Small chip on the screen protector and no phone damage. Very happy.
Yeah, mine fell out of my lap onto the concrete from my truck about 2 days after I opened it.. No marks in glass but the metal on edge is a little scuffed. I hate cases since I love the way this phone feels in your hands but the scuff bugs me everytime I touch it lol

I lucked out when I dropped mine. Completely naked, it bounced off my cat's water bowl and landed on the tile floor screen up. No physical damage at all!
(This was one day before my Spigen Ultra Hybrid case arrived - it's been in the case ever since)
lol at people rejoicing because their 6p didn't break
Never dropped my phone...until today I did it twice. Luckily I was at work where I keep the felt back case on it. One was 5 feet up on a hard floor....the case protected it perfectly. That being said...once my dbrand skin arrives ima have to be more careful. I always use tgsp though.

A screen protcetor will prevent your phone from scratching and dropping, why not?

I had mine in my back pocket and sat in a folding chair. I only weigh 146, so it's not like I'm all that big. The back edge grazed the back support as I sat down. I heard a sickening crunch and when I looked at it the back of the phone the glass on the curved section had snapped. I wouldn't worry about the front of the devicedevice, but that back glass is not too impressive. I feel like that curved section didn't have enough support. The curve also likely contributed to the weakness. I now have a case that covers it up and I have no intentions of ever selling this device, but it is still pretty sickening. I've never cracked the glass on any device I've ever owned. This was the only disappointment I've had with this device, especially since I'd had it for less than two weeks at that point.

Build quality: chipping scratching?

Hello everyone, since this thread was closed, I thought I'd reopen the discussion.
I'm currently waiting for my preorder to ship, but as of right now there is no specified date in Spain (just mid April). So I thought I'd ask you guys:
What do you think of the build quality? Do you see any potential issues in the near future? I saw the video of that guy scratch his G5 body very easily with a box cutter, of course, it's a box cutter! But do any of you think that will actually chip or scratch with normal usage? Like in your pocket, leaving it on the table, in your bag with other things? I do this all the time with my G4, G3, and every other device, but I have never seen such a video that a guy can literally take off the entire layer with little effort.
So people with devices, have any of you noticed or felt like the primer layer is weak or fragile enough to chip, break off, crack or come off by itself with little effort or every day wear? I'm planning on keeping this device for at least a year! (And yes, a case is on its way, but sometimes I do like to move around without a case - after all, these phones are designed without a case in mind...)
Thanks
The coating seems pretty durable, but I always use a skin on the phone so when I go to sell it it's in mint condition when I peel that skin off. I also keep the pocket it rides in free of other objects. I am sure if you took a box cutter to any phone, it would cause damage.

That's good to know. I just felt like in the video it looked like it was very "soft" or malleable. I just wanted to see what actual owners thought about it . I'm excited to get mine!
It's durable so far. been putting in my pocket with keys and no scratches, dents or dings. Dropped twice off the back of my couch last night onto my hard wood floor and my heart skipped a beat - no damage at all.
I prefer no case. The only thing that will really f-up your phone is dust/dirt as it will scratch everything

There are reports in some threads about small drops and keys dinging and scratching the phone.
With that said, it mostly depends on how it falls. I've heard of people's G4 body/screen cracking from five foot drops onto carpet. I've accidentally tossed mine eight feet in the air and had it land face down on pavement without a scratch, and that was using a Rinke Slim case.

From what I gather you need to intentionally cut into the phone in order to chip. Falls may do it too

Also he was cutting with enough force to pretty badly scratch the aluminum itself, I don't know how you could reasonably expect a coating to do better...

And just to add, the phone though light has a solid heft to it (if that makes any sense). All of this talk of it being plastic has me fuming. I tapped the back and sides of the phone lightly on my granite counter top and there is no way in hell plastic makes a sound like that. I tried the same with my G3 and there are 2 distinct sounds...

Haha, very good.
What people i hear are saying is it does not feel like metal in the hand. LG promised, LG lied, we are disappointed, bla, bla....
it would seem that reviewers are adamant we should live in a world where ALL phones are anodised 'premium' flat slabs !!
Some companies beg to differ.
What is so godamn premium about aluminium. Its the cheapest metal to use. Its soft and dents like anything.

How is the leather back on the G4 holding up after nearly a year. Corners still peeling but never went beyond. The leather changed colour. The back on this is harder than leather.
So I appear to have developed a small chip on the top left side. I have been extremely careful with this phone in every way. Always in an empty pocket and set down carefully. Might have to get it exchanged.

See that's the thing, I didn't coddle my G4. I liked the feel of the leather, and I'm absolutely certain that I have bumped into stuff while it is in my pocket, that's the facts of life. You can't really avoid that. What I saw in another review yesterday was that in 8 days the device began to chip at the bottom where the magic slot is located. That's from normal usage. I'm very inclined to give it a shot! I loved and still love my G4, but I'm worried that the G5 might not hold up past a few months without seriously degrading the build quality [emoji19]

I hope you're wrong.
My 2 samsungs are very resistant : the Note 1 has felt 3-4 times, and the borders have just a liitle impact on a corner.
The Note 3 et Note 1 's paint are ok since the first day, no scratches, and the screens are ok too, without protection (just flip cover)
Samsung's phone are strong, hoping my future G5 is too :-/

Samsung were very strong devices. The last two years have been very fragile if dropped. The S7E I have now feels like I need to keep it in a diaper... I could drop my note, note 2 or 4. LG G4 too! But if the G5 begins to chip soon after... For the love of God! Hopefully what people are saying is true: there is a factory that has issues, but it's one of the three that are producing! So that's good...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed [emoji106]
