I get your drift, and I can see how something like that could be really popular. I know some folks are really addicted to these social games where they take turns and play with someone. Taking that idea into a romantic direction would work, I'd think. Something on the order of "Draw Something" or "Words With Friends" that was password protected and was on the order of "Truth or Dare" or something like that might find a huge market...particularly if you could attach audio or pictures. SMS just isn't a perfect substitute because it doesn't bring in the "game" aspect or provide the same kind of "rules" or "choices".

thank you for thinking outside the box to see the kind of app i'm looking for. we do the "texting" thing. i'm looking for something different. something that could promote new ideas and things to do. something that takes some of the control away.
App for Couples
There is a new app for couples out that could provide you with something of what you are looking for.
Search iLoveNote on Google Play for Android Devices. The App is awaiting release in the App store for IOS devices.
I was also looking for a similar app. I found an app so I want to make happy to my girlfriend with my performance.:

So alot of people ask to use my Samsung captivate cause that see it as a coop phone. I don't mind letting other people play around with it but I just hvlave things on it that are private to me.
So my idea is to:
Use a different launcher
A different browser
Set up a custom app drawer
Not include messaging or contacts or anything
Well that's all I have. I guess if this helps anyone or if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Im suspicious of things you can buy jenga for 10p today but i can't understand why it wants phone call permissions? Why would a game want to know my phone number and call status? I can't think of a single reason, is there one?

Might have to do with this:
In Android Market Jenga Goto News Tab --> in "What new in this version":
"CHAT"
"Send a text message to your opponent with each move in an Online game"
Fair enough, i would just use the internet, not sure my what partner would need my phone number. Plenty of games use the internet without needing to know who im currently phoning, i think I'll leave this one!

Android apps that have silly requests for permissions is the worst aspect of Android.
I rooted and installed lbe security which allows me to block some permissions after the install.and asks with a pop up for requests at other times.
You have reason to be suspicious.
Good reason.
But most of it is just collected and used to better advertise to you.
Welcome to the cloud.

I agree,
you have to be suspicious.
Even better than LBE (and the best if combined) is CyanogenMod with the possibility to block ALL the permissions (have to consider which you block btw => FC's)
But games want to know your phone status to be able to pause when a call is coming in, I guess... Not sure though.
Muta
Ah will try that nut pants!
Ah yes, phone interruption, that will be it!

Any you don't like i guess as long as it doesn't break the app
So i saw a single player game that wanted my Gps...why? And can it access Gps history?

just root your phone and download denied permissions
How is an app that has automated settings for denied permissions going to help ME understand wich permissions i can block.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
The same goes with me...
You can block anything that a phone may not support (any developer that makes an app that crashes because you have no internet should not bee installed)
I remove everything I don't like (which is everything) and bring back what I'm willing to allow if it FC's.
Google needs to have developers give full reasons for required permissions.some developers already do that, they are the ones I support.other I email to ask and i am fully willing to rate badly if no response.
Some one should start a Android full disclosure group to work together to get the info every one wants.
And get start up control (or something like that) you would not believe how many apps fire up when you get a text or change your network connectivity.
If any one knows of a Android security website or forum post it here.I have not found one worth reading.
You suggestion seems like it could benifit loads of people. It seems like you already have a good grasp what 2 ask the developers for. Maybe you can make up an format for me and others who are willing to email devs to get some awnsers.

I've had my i9100 for 5 months and just rooted last month. Before that I was on windows mobile, after10 years using a wm phone I bailed on ms forever because of all the unacceptable "features"of windows phone. I believe in security and being anonymous as possible to big corporate interests.Android being open source was my only choice as apple is closed and militant about it, even more so than Ms. (and imagine my horror to see all the permissions on my phone)
But to be honest I know much more about what I don't like than I know how to fix it.
I do know that Google makes more money from advertising and knowing the actions and preferences of its users than any other company in history.the app developers make as much money or more from advertising than from selling their apps.and in sure some make money by learning what you like and don't.
And almost none of them will abandon that source of cash.
When ics is out and ready for my device I will go to cm9ics and it's security options built in the kernel.
I hope some one builds a locked down Android that randomly fakes all the privacy questionable permissions so all apps work.but I don't think that will ever happen. None of the big movers in the phone market want that.
As for finding out why a developer asks for a permission just mail them and ask.if you don't like the answer uninstall and rate it why you removed it.
some times permissions are there for options that you may love like your keyboard needing your contact list so it can spell your friends names. But is there really a reason for that keyboard to have internet access?
Carrier IQ brought into the open just what your phone might do with it you knowing.sadly most phones don't need an extra app to monitor your every move.
Don't even get me started on the"cloud" and all the bad things it represents.
as I learn more I'll share more but right now I feel like a very big man in a very small boat fishing for information in a very big sea.
Good luck out there
I totally understand your feelings. And agree on most of it. I wrote an essay about digital privacy a few years back. The thing is i know my every digital move is being monitered and stored. I think your best option is to build a cutom rom .. maybe 1 wich feed the apps with bogus information. That way you can get the apps you like help the developers get random data/ advertising revenue and stay anonimous.

I've heard of many having text to speach and I've looked to see if we have it stock. Either I haven't looked well enough or I am a little sleep deprived and need a window to lick. If anyone knows if we do have it and how to activate it, please be kind and fill me in.

It is usually a little microphone within the keyboard. Press is and watch the magic happen..
yep just tap the microphone icon that's on the keyboard and that will tell you when to start speaking. are you that got to put this message in.
okay I take it back it that messed up on that last sentence. what I had said was I use it to put this message in.
Swyping now... I like it but you definitely have to edit some of it and add punctuation, but fine for an informal text if you're driving or have your hands full.

I've used Vlingo, it works really well for in the car, reads off the incoming texts for you.
You can also turn on the screen reader in accessibility if you want...

Unfortunately, Vlingo has issues on the Rezound. They told me they are working on a fix....
I use gosms it has this feature also just touch the text you want spoken and select the option. May be a way to enable to do it automatically but havnt looked yet

Thanks. I wasn't asking for more windows to lick, but thanks for the job offer..
I was not aware of the screen reader either. See, I knew I didn't look hard enough.
This forum is so much nicer than the thunderbolt forum was. So far people seem nicer and less judgemental. Must have been a prerequisite to buy the Rezound.

Enhanced Caller ID reads texts, email, gmail and gtalk, plus caller ID. It reads the email content (or as much as you want). It has a quiet time feature which I need, plus a while lot more options. It lets your customized ringtones play if you have one set for someone in your contact list. It's a great program.

I am just starting to learn how to develop apps for android. I want to start by making some nice easy apps and work my way up to harder stuff. Im having trouble thinking of apps that would be easy to make. I don't really care if they are usefull or reallistic.
Could developers post some app ideas that are good for learning perposes. I figure this will be usefull for others who are in the same situation as well.
It would be helpful if you put a general difficulty level and any hints/suggested research topics.

Look for some tutorials for a to-do list, or a currency converter.
Probably the best thing is to think about a "real" application and then try to implement it.
There are a lots of problem that you could find (connections, storing, parsing..), but they depends on the application.
Thanks thats the kind of stuff im looking for!
Keep them coming people. I would like to see this thread become a resource for people of different levels as well.
I'd really like someone to develop a calendar app where I can swipe down the hours on day view to set my shifts. I get 20 different shifts a per month, loading them individually into stock calendar on my phone is laborious. If I could press on 6am and swipe to 4pm, this would be great. I have searched high and low on the market for this function.
If this is something that you're interested in, let me know and I can expand somewhat.

Business Calendar has the swiping action in its Add Event screen.
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.
Thread moved.
There's a 'hello world' app tutorial, in coding one simple code.example I'be seen is making tthe screen print "hello world", I assume this is a similar concept. Theyvare in the Development and Hacking section.

Hey All,
I know this is a weird question but I don't know where else or who else to ask...
Play is having a sales and one of the things I would like to order is sketchbook products which is on sale for 25 cents.
It isn't compatible with my Note but will be with my 10.1 when it arrives so I would like to order the program now to install later.
Play won't let me, even if muck in system.
Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks!

Normally....
the play store will respond to your app requests if the DPI on the device is changed to reflect the DPI value of the device it was intended for...
I dont know how much button time you have had with DPI changes, but this is the short method for getting the PS to see a device...
Also, the PS is dependent on your software version, and will not let you pull apk's built for JB, if you are running ICS etc.
there is more info I'm sure, and hopefully we can get more users in here with some experience to chime in for you..
It's really a trial and error event...and sadly, I suck at it...LOL.....g
Theres a thread i think under developing, that tells you how to download incompatible apps
