My first guess with crashing launchers or FC launchers is usually looking at installed Task Killers or RAM managers as either of these can play havok on the launcher. If you have neither of these installed I would then install a power control widget on the desktop to toggle wifi with. See if this crashes the launcher. If it does, then I would do a factory reset. Infact, unless its being caused by a ram manager or task killer, I would do a factory reset regardless if the widget trick works or not. If it continues to happen, I would swap at ATT store if within 30 days, otherwise contact samsung.

I am running the stock ROM, with stock apps, which one would think are tested to be compatible with each other. But we know that's usually not the case.
I have Lookout running. Ah ok I remember, and this might be the culprit, 3G Watchdog is also running. I also enabled System Power Saving.
I had already factory reset thinking that would help, but I installed 3G Watchdog..
Thanks for the tips, I will check and see if it reacts the same way with power control widget.

You never know what could be the culprit, I'm surprised all the time when I finally run down a app that's causing odd issues. Sometimes it's something I've been using for years that all of a sudden starts acting a fool. Good luck and be sure to fill us in on what the solution is.
Fresh factory reset. Nothing installed or configured other than my google account. Wifi not toggling, at least its not finding anything to connect to and disables it self.
I forgot about it. But then tried again later on the train. Again same results. I go into wifi settings and toggle. Sure enough it turns on scans, finds nothing and disables it self. I try again. The phone becomes unresponsive. Vibrates turns black and reloads launcher. Again fully stock with shell still rooted.

I hadn't checked my data connection in a long time since i use wifi. There is no data coming or going and i suspect that EXTENDED CONTROLS WIDGET is the culpret. The problem is the app will not uninstall. I have tried everything to no avail. I just get a message saying "uninstall not sucessful". Since i have tons of hours into this phone the last thing i want to do is reset.
DO NOT install EXTENDED CONTROLS....its buggy and it sucks, tho it is beautiful.
Anyone with any ideas on how to get it off my phone?
Thanks

Go into [Settings > Location & Security > Select device administrators] and make sure you have Extended Controls unchecked first.
Update
OK. I FINALLY got rid of EXTENDED CONTROLS by downloading AUTORUN MANAGER. Extended Controls had 7 backround processes running which is why I could not uninstall it. Autorun Manager (donate version) allowed me to stop all of those processes and then finally get rid of extended controls. Great program tho it cost me over $4. Worth it I guess.
Unfortunately, data is still not working, although when I turn data off and on the up & down data arrows now appear, but they are greyed out, so the phone is trying to talk to the network, but not working yet. Earlier in the evening I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T rep who reset everything.
So I am not sure what else to try.
Thanks for the admin tip.
I am open to any and all ideas (((
Hi, all. I've had my Atrix for about two months and I love it. But I've had a problem since day one.
On occasion, the touchscreen input driver will freeze for a short period. I'm not sure about the frequency, but my guess is it happens once an hour, and the duration of the freeze tends to be between 0 and 10 seconds. The state of the screen input, at the instant the freeze begins, will persist throughout the duration. So if the freeze happens when I am touching it, it will continue to register the touch until the input mechanism returns to normal.
For instance, say I'm typing on the virtual keyboard and the freeze happens at the moment my finger happens to be on the backspace key. Even after lifting my finger off the screen, the backspace button will stay enlarged and I'll witness the cursor clear out all the text in the window. Touching other virtual keys during this period has no effect; there is none of the expected haptic or on-screen feedback. At some point, the touch interface will wake up and I can perform an "Undo," or else re-type everything.
Things I've tried:
Updating to the latest Atrix firmware
Various virtual keyboards. It actually doesn't have anything to do with the keyboard, because it happens when I'm doing other activities, such as paging around the home screen launcher or engaging with other apps.
Looking at the Watchdog app immediately after a freeze occurs, to see if something is hogging resources. Since it never reports anything out-of-the-ordinary, maybe it's something with the input driver.
Regardless of what the Watchdog said, I tried various ways to help performance, assuming it could be due to the device running out of memory or the CPU is getting too hot or overloaded. Whatever is the case about the use and misuse of task killers and system apps, the freezing behavior was going on from the moment I got the phone. Regardless, I uninstalled any third party apps I don't use and rooted the device so that I could install various memory management apps (e.g. disabling various 3rd party apps in Autostarts app, SetCPU app configured to max at 900 Mhz, Autokill app setting the system to be more aggressive about keeping unused apps out of memory, used supposedly best practices with the Advanced Task Killer app).
Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have some hardware issues. Looks like you have tried just about everything on a software level.
Maybe try flashing it back to 1.57 manually then OTA it back to a fresh stock 1.83.
If the problem is still there then get it replaced if you still can!
If your not familiar with Flashing, Go Here--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
Thanks, I will try to get it returned, and if I can't then I will try flashing it.

I have this same problem ONLY when in the Google Search app. It doesnt matter if I open the app with an icon or the search hardkey, it hangs for several seconds when i try to type my first word. Im using Swype.
Noticing some unexplainable lag just now myself; ffs..
Are you perhaps noticing it while you're connected to a pc via usb? Mine is certainly acting up while on usb connection. I also just re-installed Watchdog tonight.. Try removing that & reboot and see what it does.
No, mine is definitely lagging when I plug it to a usb..
So I updated the market to the newest version and occasionally when I open the market it tells me I have to have background data enabled. Problem is I have background data enabled. I can open the browser and everything else works but when I try to open the market and keep getting this error.
Is this affecting anybody else? Anyone have a solution for this? Thanks.
Rebooting the phone seems to fix the problem but it's real annoying to have to do that.
I have the same issue from time to time, Using task manager to force close market usually fixes the issue
I went back to the original market.
The new one wouldn't load last nite and is not all that much better for the hassle.
I'll wait until they get it worked out.
I noticed when the low battery power saver kicks in it disables the background data. Whenever you pull up the market with a low battery, you’ll get this warning. A quick enable cures the issue.
You can adjust the power saver behavior or disable the feature entirely.

Well this happened to me, except that the market still says background data needs to be enabled even after I've enabled it. I even installed 2 apps from the market in my desktop browser.
Killing the market fixed it though. Seems like the market app just got stuck thinking it was down and didn't refresh or try again.
Aside from using a task manager and rebooting my solution to this is just go to Settings -> Manage applications -> market -> Clear Data
it seems to work hope it helps
Hey guys, I don;t really use GPS on my Galaxy Player 4'', but I have notices that it will all the sudden display the GPS icon in the notification area even when it is off. I have disabled GPS and the "Use wireless networks" option, but the icon will appear at least once a day and won't disappear until I reboot the device. It just keeps blinking over and over until I reboot the device.
I have noticed it drains my battery way to quick when that icon appears (uses about 10% when the deviced is locked), which is crazy because it uses about (2%) battery power when it is locked during the night and the player does not shows that GPS icon in the notification area. I have killed pretty much every single application I have been able to kill to find out what app is trying to use GPS, but the icon won't go away no matter what process I kill. I use juicedefender and it has really improve my battery life, but when that icon appears, my device still will waste about 10% battery power even when it is locked with no apps running. Cannot explained why this is happening.
Has any of you had this problem?
Thank you
Try reseting to factory default, my batttery life on galaxy 4.0 is incredible.
I've had the same problem on my 5.0. I figured out it was an app that was constantly trying to get a gps signal. Simply going into the app and the exiting out seems to solve it however. It still happens but going into the app and exiting out helps. I would try to figure out which app is constantly trying to connect and if you don't use it very frequently uninstall it.

Difficult to pinpoint this app.
Do anybody know any way to log what app is using (or trying to use) GPS?
I noticed this happening today. I have my notification bar hidden, so not sure how often this happens. I could make it go away by turning on GPS and GPS Test, then back off. I checked for apps that might be trying to find a location in running services, killed a couple "maybes", but the icon kept blinking. Only app I installed today was Simple Calendar Widget, but didn't see anything in it's options that would be pinging location...
I have Power Tudor that shows how much juice apps are using while you monitor them, the only app there that looked like it could be was something like "system_1025" or something like that.... nothing I could find to stop it.

Also use Simple Calendar Widget, but I don't think it's the reason.
Did you use Samsung Dive recently? I did, in order to test the ring, lock and location service provided from within Dive. The service running on device tries to establish a GPS connection even if GPS is disabled. I didn't make a location trace, only a simple location test.
After reboot GPS icon do not show up any more ...
Looks like Google Latitude might be the culprit. Try opening it and signing out of that service. Also go into "Settings" --> "Location and security" and uncheck "Use Sensor Aiding". Once I turned those off the GPS Notification went away.
What does sensor aiding do anyway? Sure doesn't help the Compass!
I had the same issue with my HTC ONE M8 I did the same process as you. Went into my settings found my battery usage and saw what was draining my battery. It was groupon. So I force stopped the app and the GPS notification went away.
Hey everyone,
Has anyone else been experiencing lag on their Optimus G when they scroll through settings, contacts, messages, or apps? On my phone i consistenly get some stutter when I scroll through the settings menus and I wanted to know if this was normal. I am on my second Optimus G after my first one had overheating issues and this one now seems to have some lag issues for some reason. Is this even possible? or am I being overly obsessive over this? I love the phone and if i do take it back it would be for another Optimus G I am just wondering if what I am experiencing is normal.
Thanks for the replies,
yidavs
I do see this once in a while.

Thrown up by my LG Optimus G, why you jelly at my superior phone?
But this isnt a lag per se I guess, its a stutter, I dont notice it when opening things up, it just when i scroll through screen, especially settings, its stutters a bit. I think I am just being paranoid.

That's called ICS. Mine does it too. Haha.
If the phone is charging it tends to act strange. So if it is charging try getting a multitouch visualizer and try using more than one finger, it doesn't like to recognize some taps and multiple fingers. (The best way to reduce this is to use the stock LG cord and plug, I was using an older one and the phone was almost unusable, still sneaks in on the LG ones though).
If this is happening off the charger... I am sorry to hear that, I haven't noticed anything of the sort.
But I am on The Base with Nocturnal Mods (not sure if there are any performance tweaks in here or more just audio/visual candy) and am using a third party launcher.
Well firstly, I am using stock software, so ICS with LG's UI over it with no mods. Secondly, I was able to find a place where it lags every time: when I scroll between the sound and display settings. This makes me think it may only be a software issue and should be fixed with Jelly Bean when we do get it eventually. Although strangely enough, now my battery life is really bad, like it wont even last me a day where as a week ago it would last me a day and a half

Are you using the tabbed settings (I'm not sure, but I think AT&T made this... may explain why it doesn't work as well, you can get the default settings menu by just pressing the menu button in the main menu screen and selecting list view (or whatever the only option there is called).
Also, Are you getting wake locks or anything?
I just today had mediaserver DESTROY my battery (like 20% in an hour) and it was second only to android OS in my battery usage info.
I seem to have fixed it though (it didn't go away with a reboot). I had to freeze media storage, boot into recovery and clear my caches, reboot and restart media storage.
I also deleted a song I had downloaded from a youtube video (it was the only new thing I had downloaded it a day or so and thought the conversion may have corrupted the file which is a suspected culprit of media storage rescanning forever).

Thanks for the settings advise, i did it and now it doesnt stutter when i scroll through it. As for the battery life, I am not sure how to do any of what you suggested. Are you asking whether i am getting any lag when waking up? is that what you mean by wake locks?

I'm glad the settings thing worked.
And for the other things, you would have to be rooted and unlocked with an app manager program like titanium backup pro or ultimate backup pro.
Pretty much, a wake lock is an app or process that keeps the phone awake even when the screen is off, using the battery when it should be sleeping.
If you go into settings>power saver>battery use you can see what is using your battery.
Android OS is high on this phone, then next should probably be screen and so on by what uses the most resources on your phone.
One of the big culprits (at least for me) was mediaserver, it was using a lot of power.
Another possible cause for battery drain on this phone is the way AT&T and this phone handles a data connection called fast dormancy (I believe this is for if you have 3G, not sure tough). There is an app that can fix that, but you have to be rooted for that to work I believe.
And you could have installed another app that is keeping the phone on, even if the screen is off.

Thank you for the advice, today my battery life was better, but looking at the battery use break down my "google services" was the highest. I mean it was higher than Android OS which i have never seen before. Wifi was second which is understandable since I was on my college campus all day and then came Android OS. What does this include and is there anyway to reduce this?
