Yes it works on Wind Mobile - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Field report: my Galaxy Note i717, unlocked with a code from UnlockUnit, rooted, flashed with Tmo_SGH-T989_KID_radio_ATTNOTE.zip produced me a bit above 2MByte/s download speeds at the Vancouver airport on Saturday using the Speedtest app on Wind Home. Yes, it does work. Unbelievable.

hmm... it would have been nicer if you used search and posted it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547114

T-Mobile Radio Question?

Hey guys I'm have trouble with a radio that is for T-Mobile not. I have the At&t Galaxy Note. But I have T-Mobile service. Any other Modem I flash (icsblaze or KID) works fine.. But the [RADIO][MODEM] TMO Galaxy Note UVLG3 I flash kills my phone.. makes it slow and hangs a lot.. Other people have the same problems also.
Here is where I got it from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842207&page=13
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
You already have two working modems and you're flashing one that doesn't work.
Yeah. the T-Mobile 879 rom is super fast that's the reason for changing.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone trying to use the actual T-mobile Note (SGH-T879) on the AT&T Note (i717) are having problems with slow downs and freezing constantly. It sounds like you just simply like the ROM better....? So if that's the case, why not just use the T-mobile ROM, with the ICS Blaze modem? Quite a few people seem to be doing that... Me, I use Dark Star ICS w/ the ICS-Blaze modem and am perfectly content for now...
I don't care which rom I have. I just want the speed of the 879 modem. Lol.
Yesterday on my SGS 2 I got speeds over 20 mbs. I would like to have that on my Note

The 2 Notes have different antennas. That's why the tmo modem will not work well on our att notes. The closest I have come is the blaze modem- great DL speeds- redzone- 10-12, poor UL speeds- .2-.4. I'm in No. Jersey. I am trying out straight talk for the month with the att sim. The speeds are poor as compared to t-mo. No better than ATT on DL- 1-3, and poor on UL- .5-.7. So I am going back to t-mo and porting my # to google voice. I will deal with the poor UL speeds is return for the $30 plan
try blaze
try the latest blaze radio with the backstair vi rom, for me in miami i get average 3-5 mbps download. I also have this on my phone, it maybe a placebo effect but for me i think it made a huge difference.

effective radio and rom for Los Angeles
I'm in the Los Angeles area. Would anyone recommend any radio rom combinations for the note i717 on t-mobile that has been effective for the Los Angeles area?
Thank you in advance.
Just want to share this tweak by Rob4828- doubled my upload speed and raised my DL's to 13-15 mbps. On Blaze.
works on touch wiz roms- need to redo with every reboot.

I9035 4G reception Quality/ issues?

Folks,
I went to a Telstra shop (Australian 4G network provider) and was testing the 4G capabilities of the device. Having a HTC one XL to compare and an SII 4G, I noticed that it took a lot longer to connect to 4G. When it did connect we could only run speed test once on 4G and then it would not reconnect to 4G, always sitting on 3G. It was not a reception issue as the other 2 devices next to it were working fine. We placed the phone in flight mode, turned off data, 're enabled data, etc and nothing would get it back on 4G. There was only one SIII to check or compare so I am curious if others have the same issue? I can confirm it was running 4.1.1. I wonder if other i9035 users experience the same thing or its just a Telstra / one off device issue?

Not sure abt telstra but my virgin S3 4G always stick to 4G whenever available

They are meant to automatically connect back and forth from 4g to 3g where evere there is the coverage. There might be a setting, I am using Vodafone at the moment as my number has been with vodafone for ages, and I am not that worried about 4g untill the coverage becomes much larger, by then Vodafone is going to jump in the game anyway Early 2013, so will see how it goes, might jump into telstra or optus, I am pre-paid as I love to have the choice and no lock-in contractss
I'm on Telstra in Melbourne and can confirm the data speeds are fantastic and don't have any trouble getting on the 4G network. Infact, when in a 4G coverage zone it is always on 4G, doesn't 'step-down' to 3G or HSDPA+, Just sits on 4G ready and waiting.
I got 2.8MB/s down and 2.4MB/s up from my work on Collins Street.
So couldn't be happier.
And once I rooted and removed all the bloatware, runs perfectly! Really couldn't be happier.:good:
One thing I noticed is this modem is better than the standard S3. I get better 3g signal now inside my place than before.
At Sydney airport.....first taste of 4g. Wow! It's fast.
I have done a few speed tests of my data and it has always been good. The other morning I was at Skippers airport on the way to work and I thought I would give my speed a test.. 48mbps, I was shocked (in a good way..), I did not know those speeds were possible.. I need a speed app with a higher speedo as mine stops at 20mbps.. So old school now with 4g around..
Max I got in the city was 50mbps (bear in mind I only did two tests). My speed at home using my Optus ADSL connection (with Optus) my speed was under 2mbps.. Crazy difference..
Attached is a pic of my speed tests, the last two are the really cool ones.. I will have to test the speeds at Skippers when in the airport again next week.

Tmobile here I come

After bricking my note I called att used early upgrade to get s4 while my note gets fixed, jtaged... log story short I compared att and tmobile and realized for my wife and i we are paying $150/month att and tmobile should be $75/mn after 15% work discount. So I called att cancelled s4(thank god still boot loader locked, and htc one better).
The reason i share all this with all of you is I believe some of you may be in same boat. I came to at&t for lte. I'm paying premium for that service. From research I've done I can pay half as much on tmobile for speeds around 10-25mb. That is to much savings for me to pass up on. I'm buying nexus from play store from now on and staying on tmobile.
BTW: my nexus was $349 for bigger memory version, s4 would have cost me $200 plus 2 years at $75 more which would have been a $2000 phone!!!!!! Nexus 4 is 90% or more as good which much better roms and support!
Edit: wanted to add.. two new phones on att plus 2 year agreement is $400 phones, plus $1800 more than tmobile. Two nexus $700. Tmobile savings over two years $1500.

For my part, I say Thank you for this. I'm on both networks right now, owing only to a remaining AT&T contract, and T-Mobile's network, service and support are significantly better. T-Mobile's CALL CENTERS still suck, but their online "T-Force" support team is superb... absolutely superb.
Thanks for rubbing it in guys! I'm stuck like chuck with att. I live close to lake erie and Tmobile doesn't work here. Att barely works here at all but they gave me a Microcell which hooks up to the net and gives me 5 bars signal throughout my house. I wish Tmobile had something like this. I've tried getting a friends tmobile phone onto my microcell but no go.

That is some VERY good information !!! Thank you VERY VERY much!!!!! My contract is up in October and att will probably be kicked to the curb!
I'm curious though, will my phone battery deplete with no cell signal, only wifi? I don't want it searching for cell signal that's not there draining my battery.

What Is your T-Mobile data speed?
To the other guy, T-Mobile does have native voip calling. I seen it while researching. They use an app to call and text over WiFi should you be unfortunate enough to be in an area with no or poor service.
I'm excited for nexus 5 which will be same time I'll be converting over. Till then Jamie keeps my note fresh and fun!

FYI the "Wifi calling" feature is only available on branded phones (i.e ones with T-Mobile logo/apps pre-installed). So if you get a Nexus 4, it does not have it built in.

There's been a few t mobile uvlg3 roms that have the tmobile wifi calling app built in. Same rom from tmobiles original note. Used it and it worked fine.
I myself have setup google voice to use wifi, and cellular over grooveip( google chat) and pbxes.org if need be. That's since I use google voice as my main number though.
Been T-Mobile since forever. The fact this og note will get LTE on T-Mobile excites me even more.
On the blaze modem I've got 10-15mbps.
On the stock att modem, I pull 6-10mbps on tmobiles refarming.

4g/lte speeds seem slow.

Maybe it just seems this way or I haven't tested with my GS4 in the same spots, but jesus, I can't get over 4meg down.. I always get 15-28 down almost everywhere I went and tested.. I'm gonna ask my dad to do a side by side with his note 2, if his is significantly faster, which I have a feeling it will be, I'm gonna have a bone to pick with T-mobile.. I won't accept this phone

I got some good speeds here in honolulu.
Here in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, T-Mobile's LTE download speeds are great (anywhere between 15 and 30 mbps), but no matter what, upload speeds will NOT top 10 mbps. Normally it'll jump above 10 then immediately go back down to somewhere around 9.5 mbps and stay steady there. No idea why, and it doesn't appear to be device-specific. It did the same thing when I had a GS4 GPE, and it does the same thing on my Z Ultra GPE. Makes no sense.
The same thing happened to me when I went from the S3 to the S4, it dropped about 10mb for a few weeks and then was right back up in the 40's and 50's. Now, coming from the S4 and now using the S5 I'm in the same boat, getting 28mb down and about 6mb up. I'm not really mad at all considering I just downloaded Wolf of Wall Street in 20 mins. Are we as consumers getting that impatient? I remember how stoked I was to see 3g when I had the original Mytouch.

I really really sad though because my office literally just moved a mile and since I have been here the fastest I've gotten down is about 20 and up at most like 7. Its really sad too because I am near the Portland airport and its a dense area that should have fast coverage
I live by the Portland airport also and only get about 10-15 download. Ill have to check the coverage map.

35 - 40 here in Seattle.
I have been an ATT user for years - when the S5 came out, on a friends advice I moved to TMOBILE - when I got my S5 and started checking speeds in my house and near work - I was disturbed to see speeds less than 1/2 what i used to get on ATT - at first I thought it was my S5 but when I put the Sim Card in my NOTE 3 -I got the same slow speeds.
I canclled tMOBILE and went back to ATT and was pleasantly surprised to find that ATT Speeds were even faster than they had been before.
Last year, my average speed from inside my houuse was around 6-10mbps -not bad - closer to work I got awesome speeds - almost 30mbps at times - usually 22-25 - very respectible.
BUT, now I am getting 12 to 18mbps in my house - and even faster speeds near work, often clocking in at 35 to 50mbps - ATT seems to have kicked into overdrive here - (Milwaukee) - this is not a commercial for ATT - many of my friends swear by TMOBILE - but I guess they just didn't have the towers close enough to me to give me any real speed - while ATT has become a rocket ship for me - and my S5 is faster than any other phone I have had before -

No one in my office has an ATT LTE phone but we have many times done a speed test with all our of phones out at the same time and the Verizon users get 20-40mbps down and I would always get 20-40 down as well, the sprint person would get like 5 down lol (on LTE too). VZ upload speeds are usually faster that TMO but that really is not a big deal.
There is a difference in the network coverage but I'm not willing to get rapped by Verizons prices for a little better coverage, that is what wifi calling is for. And in an emergency now you can jump on most any network with these phones so that doesn't matter either.
Where i live I do have very good TMO coverage, I completely understand switching because you don't have good coverage at home, that is a big deal.

Something is wrong.. When I was in brooklyn, I was getting 25 down average, in the city I was getting 40-50, was insane.. I'm the OP for this thread and I was worried because I kept doing a speed test and wasn't normal. I just moved into a new place and it just seems to be where I'm at. I see almost 10 or more wherever I go.. the truth is , anything over 4 down and it doesn't matter anymore. besides downloading, videos and all other data required things are just as good if I was getting 4 down or 400 down,

Note 8 reception/speed worse than Note 5 ??

I have the Note 5 and the Note 8, both T-Mobile branded. I haven't tested the wifi yet, but as far as cellular reception/speed goes, the 2-year old Note 5 seems to consistently outperform the Note 8, and in some cases, crushes the newer model. I felt the Note 8 was slower, but I was able to confirm objectively looking at the consistent numbers generated by the speedtest app.
Is the Note 8 cellular reception known to be below average or was the Note 5 a stellar performer? Or is it likely that I have a Note 8 that's an underperforming dud?
Should I bring the Note 8 to a T-Mobile store and have one of the associates run the speedtest app simultaneously with another one of their Note 8s that are on display (with T-Mobile SIMs in both)?

My Note 8 running the speed test app is faster than my rooted Nexus 6 and my S8+. I'd take it to a T-Mobile store and see what they have to say. The Nexus 6 runs around 50Mbps, the S8+ runs around 60Mbps and the Note 8 hits 80Mbps all at the same exact spot.
My N8 is a UK exynos unbranded & my N5 is a Tmobile. At home where I don't get geat reception, my N8 shows lower bars than my N5. But my speed is faster on my my N8. Wifi speed is pretty much the same.
Didnt own the Note 5, but did own the Note 3 and Note 4, about the same speeds on my Note 8 here, all T MO versions.
How do you guys that buy imported devices utilize warranty, or don't you?
Ok... so I played around with another T-Mobile Note 8 and the results were very similar to the first one. The older T-Mobile Note 5 seems to be more capable of pulling in weak signals in a shielded building. However, the Note 8 has a much higher ceiling provided that the reception is good. In the mall parking lot of the T-Mobile store, I was able to download at a speed of 150+ Mb/s on the Note 8 while the Note 5 was limited to around 100 Mb/s.
From what I've read newer faster frequencies are weaker...that's why 5G antennas are being deployed at shorter distances...
I have the unlocked Note 8 version running on T-Mobile, with a family member who has the Mobile version of the Note 8. When doing speed test next to each, the unlocked version seams to be a lot faster. Seems like the unlocked version is using CA more efficiently. While the T-Mobile version camps on Band 12 as primary more often even with a decent band 2, or 4 available. The unlocked version seams to choose, a less overloaded band as the primary band first.
Speed test were around 20-40mb faster with the unlocked version, some areas even had double the speed. A few times the speeds were very close between the two. Might be the radio needs to be updated, or you can try flashing the unlocked version radio.

I recently upgraded from a T-Mobile Note 5 to a Note8. We travel from Greensboro, NC to Harrisburg, PA quite often and I've noticed that on those trips the Note 5 outperformed the Note8 in reception. Couldn't believe it myself.
This is what I'm continuously finding, pretty consistently... that when the signal is strong, the Note 8's speed is pretty awesome and trounces the Note 5. However, when the signal is lacking, the Note 8 really struggles pretty badly. I hope T-Mobile will fix this with their next update. The fact that the unlocked version of the Note 8 seems to pull in signals better than the T-Mobile-branded version (reportedly) means that this should be fixable by firmware.
My speed tests using same location and server are almost the same with my other Samsung device compared to my tmo Note 8. Not better and not worst.
