ICS Passion v13 - Can't Install Google Plus (Insufficient Space) - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. I've installed ICS passion on my phone and am unable to install Google plus.
I keep getting an insufficient space error (see attachment), but all my partitions seem to have a healthy chunk of free space.
Code:
/dev/block/mtdblock2 250.0M 206.6M 43.4M 83% /system
/dev/block/mtdblock3 17.5M 2.3M 15.2M 13% /cache

/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 1.8G 880.0M 1009.8M 47% /data
/dev/block/mtdblock6 172.0M 98.2M 73.8M 57% /datadata

/dev/block/vold/179:1
12.8G 9.0G 3.8G 70% /mnt/sdcard
I haven't run in to issues installing other apps.
2. I have a large number of apps installed on my phone and as a result ran out of space in /datadata. I moved a few of the larger directoreis to /data/data2 and symlinked the directory to /datadata. Is this the usual way to deal with running out of space in /datadata?
Thanks!

I have noticed in the past that google+ takes A LOT of space for some reason (when I noticed that, it was well over 200MB - more than 2x what you show as available in datadata)
I usually install/restore and then immediately move it to SD when I flash a new rom, although that doesn't really help your current situation.

Not sure why the XDA app won't let me edit my previous post to add a picture, but whatever.
after thinking about this for a while, I think that perhaps the large space requirement was a result of G+ and the automatic picture uploading feature.
I could be wrong, but it does reserve a lot of space over and above what any of my other apps take.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium

Figured it out. I had a symlink in /datadata for the google+ app to /data. This was tripping up market.
Removing the symlink fixed the issue.
Thanks for helping.

[Q] Insufficient space - heeelp :)

Hi guys,
I have 8GB memory card. I have three partitions (swap=512MB, ext and fat - volume sizes recommended by recovery). I have a lot of software installed. My problem is I had facebook installed. Suddenly newer version appeared so I tried to update. However I have been informed I have insufficient space. So I uninstalled previous version of FB. Didn't help. I uninstalled another app as well but again it didn't help. How can I solve my problem? Thanks!

maybe a good idea to backup the sd card, format, then create larger partitions?
although I think it is possible to expand the volumes, how safe this is, I don't know

Your problem is that your cache partition is full. Currently your cache partition is the internal one (mtblock4) which is limited to 130M, you should look into a cache2sd solution. I am not sure how to do this on cronos, in Villain there is an update for this.
Try asking in the cronos forums they should be able to help you.
You could also try to wipe the dalvik cache (from the recovery), first boot after this will be slow but it might free up a little space, although I would guess that even if this works its just temporary until it fills up again....
thanks guys for suggestions...

Increase SYSTEM PARTITION on GT-I9100

Hi guys !
The system partition on SGS2 is 512MB and i would like to increase it to 1GB aka 1024MB.
Is there any way to do that without destroying all the partitions on the device ?

what? by default out of 16gb it has 2 be 2gb internal storage and rest is internal sdcard, is ur phone really GTi9100
the SYSTEM partition is 512MB not 2GB
Same problem here, but I want to increase my app-storage (from 2GB to 4GB). After a while of googling I could not found any way to manage these partitions seperately.
BUT: There are PIT-files, which are used to set the values of the system-partition. There are 3 different PIT-files, one for 512 MB system-storage, one for 513 MB and one for 803 MB. I think, that's the only way... But at first, you have to found them via Google
Unless you really do your homework and know what you're doing, I would strongly advise NOT using Odin to re-partition with PIT etc.
High success rate of many screwing up and hard bricking.
Just warning........

Earlier this week I thought of a good way to do this, safely using LVM and the spare partition. I messaged gokhanmoral and he liked the idea and said he would look into it this weekend. So hopefully it should be possible soon.
Merging the /preload and/system partition is a good idea to get a full 1gb system partition. Though there is no need of more than 512 mb in s2 as of now it would be handy when jelly bean gets released.

I dunno how hard it is to merge those 2, but a good dev will have an idea on this
# tapatalked from my core i3 pc #
i recently talked back with gokhanmoral
and made some experiements with vlm
so far what i could get is:
- merging /preload with /cache ---> phone boots fine without any issue
- merging /preload with /data ---> phone boots fine without any issue
- create /system as lv without merging any other disk ---> phone does not boot
- create /system as lv whith merge of /preload ---> phone does not boot
when using a LV as /system the phone simply does not boot while it works fine when using /data or /cache as a LV
what i have expierienced is that when using a LVM LV as /system the phone
goes into black screen but after a bit (~1min) the adb shell becomes avaible
so i had a look into the shell
what i got is:
/system is mounted as the LV, i can see/list all files on it so i guess its mounted right
also seems that all other related services are up and running just the graphical side of the phone does not work
i have no idea what makes this happen ...
probably some software is trying to interact with the system partition during bout up using the /dev/mmc... device which is replaced with the lvm device
well ...
i made some real succes this night i got the lvm thing setup right and booted up AOKP on a 1GB /system lvm partition
the problem was/is simple as it is
samsung stock based roms do not support LVM i think there are some libs or some kind of this missing

Prime is saying I have insufficient storage and won't let me install anything.

Hey guys I feel ridiculous asking this question because I feel like it's something I should be able to figure out myself with some searching, but after all my efforts of trying to figure it out, I'm still stuck. ;P
I cannot install any more applications on my tablet, it's saying insufficient storage. Whether trying to push the install using "adb install" or uploading the .apk to like say /sdcard/ and try installing it from the device, both methods come back with insufficient storage.
The exact error is: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
I currently do _not_ have an external storage drive in.
But this is where I get a little bit confused, if I have all this free space, why would it be complaining about space?

How many apps do you have installed? im not sure if this is the case on the TFP but on my Galaxy s1 when ever i ran into this problem it meant the /datadata or /data/data partion was full.
if you uninstall some large applications does it allow you to install others?
Are you unlocked? if so try wiping your cache partition through CWM or TWRP
if you can install other apps this way root your device and install sd maid and clear your /cache partition
hopefully this helps
I have about 33 apps installed, that's counting maps and gmail and such. Even on the apps screen it says "Internal storage 3.2G used 24GB free".
I noticed that it doesn't have a problem updating apps. For instance it just downloaded the 6mb updated app for facebook and updated it without a problem. It only seems new installations are a problem.
Yes I am unlocked and rooted. I wiped the cache via TWRP but it did not solve the problem either.
I uninstalled a few things and got sdmaid installed, I used it to clean stuff up but it's still giving me insufficient storage errors for new installs that are a little larger, such as titanium backup.
I'm so confused here.
of those 33 apps are any sideloaded and require root?
Yes but looking through them quickly I'd probably guess only 1 or 2. I did not realize the system actually cared how an app was installed.. what effect does sideloading apps have?
Guessing that app is luckypatcher?
http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/transformer-pad-300-help/24847-solved-installing-apps-2.html
found this through a google search
Dont cheat devs on there hard work if that is one of the apps you got
Actually no I've never had lucky patcher installed on the tablet. The apps that I use that have updated "pro" versions I do pay for.. there are only a handful maybe. Rom Manager, TexTab, and mSecure from what I'm looking at.
I don't cheat on the devs, I can screenshot my gogole play "my apps" section if you like.
Good!, i was hoping that wasnt the case, but yeah go ahead im thinking this is a confliction with an APP causing this somehow

can you repartition disk?

I flashed a CM10 rom, and the /system partition has 1.2 GB free, where the /data/ partition is only 468 MB, and I have to move apps to microSD because it was too full.
Is there any way to resize the partition?
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 184.5M 48.0K 184.5M 0% /dev
tmpfs 184.5M 0 184.5M 0% /mnt/asec
tmpfs 184.5M 0 184.5M 0% /mnt/obb
/dev/block/mtdblock2 468.0M 368.4M 99.6M 79% /data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 1.5G 316.0M 1.2G 20% /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 190.0M 63.3M 126.7M 33% /cache
/dev/block/vold/179:9 14.8G 8.0G 6.8G 54% /storage/sdcard0
Or, is it possible to switch the partitions around?
1. make a Nandroid backup [just in case]
2. edit the fstab? or is it init.d? and switch the /system and /data devices around so the system is 468M, and data is 1.5G
3. boot into recovery mode, adb pull the /data/ to laptop
3. adb shell, rm -r the /data/ folder, cp -r the /system/ into /data/
4. rm -r the /system/, and then adb push the original "/data/" folder from laptop back to the phone
5. reboot.
6. profit?
lol
Wouldn't you just be undoing the work of jt1134? He's put all the critical stuff on the faster chip.

In the newest builds, system is now stored on the eMMC, data is stored on the OneNAND, and cache has been moved to /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 which is a previously unused (by us, used by Samsung/Vzw for their stupid paid apps like tetris and other bull****) that is on the eMMC. This eliminates the "lag" experienced in earlier builds due to the fact that write speeds on the OneNAND are extremely faster than write speeds on the eMMC (Samsung should've never shipped those stupid, ****ty-ass chips to begin with).
This means that with the bootloaders, kernel, etc there is only 468mb left for data storage, along with a ****load of extra storage available for system. This is bad due to the fact we have less data storage space, and good due to the fact the device now performs much better and future versions of android will have plenty of system space available to them. Just the upgrade from ICS to JB alone requires nearly an additional 100mb of space for system. If you're running low on data storage, either move apps to the sdcard, or if you're crafty enough, move certain apps to /system/app. Things like updated Google apps (Market, Maps, etc) are perfectly fine working from /system/app, and can conserve lots of space. Attemping to do other trickery like place certain chunks of data onto the eMMC without impacting performance is both difficult to maintain and a pain the ass to come up with anyways. It is what it is, and it'll stay that way."

[Q] Getting "not enough space" errors when there is plenty

I'm running stock NC5 with SafeStrap 3.72 installed and getting the oddest problem which presents as not enough space to write into the internal SD card (/storage/emulated/0). A bunch of apps start reporting that they have stopped and clearing cache is only a temporary fix. Multiple disk usage tools and commands (Settings->Storage, df, ES File Explorer, DIskUsage) all show gigabytes of free space on the internal memory, and yet, when this problem crops up, I can't do the simplest thing, e.g.,
> cd /storage/emulated/0
> echo x > xyz
(Error: not enough space. I forget the exact message.)
I'm a computer engineer, but not an Android developer, so I've researched and tried a bunch of things such as clearing Dalvik cache, using various commands in DU Speed Booster, etc. but every time it's just temporary.
I've concluded this isn't a space issue, at least not in the internal SD card. I'm guessing it's a space problem elsewhere that manifests itself for some reason as errors trying to write the internal SD card.
I'd be very grateful for some tips on where to look next. Thanks.
