Backing up a completely stock phone. BAMF ?'s - HTC Rezound

Is there a way to back up the entire phone as it is stock with what comes with the phone? Also have a couple of questions because I plan on loading custom roms and possibly rooting.
What are the main differences between the two recoveries:Amon Ra style vigor Current version 3.15 & ClockworkMod Recovery 5.8.1.4? I used ClockworkMod Recovery on the Incredible and was comfortable using it. Do some ROMs require a certain recovery to go with it?
Is there a recommended combination of kernel and ROM to maximize battery life?
S-On/Off is for having the ability to flash radios correct? And currently that's not available Rezound? Unlock boot loader is for flashing custom ROMS Root is for some of the better Apps(and other things I don't know about).

1. once you unlock the phone and flash a custom recovery you can back up the stock rom that is on the phone.
2. ClockworkMod has been having some troubles with the rezound so most of us only use amonRa for dependability.
3. the kernels and battery life are usually hit or miss and also depends on if you are using GB or ICS roms. GB roms have more choices but ICS seems to be what everyone is running as am i and i get great battery life as long as im smart about 4g.
4. S-off is when u can flash just about anything do your phone becuase security is off... we have s-on but unlocked which means we cant flash radios but we can flash everything else safely

BAMF external sd card issues.
So I did every and have successfully flashed BAMF following these instructions: teambamf(dot)net/index.php/topic/3185-rom-bamf-rezound-ics-v12-official-update-32512/#entry70140
but now the problem I am having is that my external sd card is not being recognized. I have tried mounting it manually in the storage settings and it says that it is "preparing to mount sd card" but then nothing happens. I have rebooted into hboot and recovery and the external sd card is recognized there. I have scoured the thread for the rom itself and have found nothing definitively helpful.
is there anything else i can try to do to make this work?
edit: I flashed this file after renaming it: PH98IMGnewfirmwarepeople.zip and this file BAMFupdate.zip for the install. Am I suppose to flash a separate kernel?

Rename PH98IMGnewfirmwarepeople.zip as PH98IMG.zip and place on external sd card then from recovery in the developer menu reboot in the bootloader and flash that file and press the volume up button when it asks.

I've actually done this twice and it has no effect as letting me read my external sd card and i've found another problem of not being able to dial out a phone call.

Did you update to the lastest firmware via the leaKed RUU? If you didn't then you have to flash the oldfirmware PH98IMG instead after flashing the ROM.

I have not, could you direct me as to where I can find it?
I went from a completely stock Rezound. I used the all in one tool kit to unlock and then perm root. And then I followed these steps to install BAMF as per their website:
Instructions for Installing Rom and Kernel (on new firmware)
Download rom file and PH98IMGnewfirmwarepeople.zip
Rename PH98IMGnewfirmwarepeople.zip to "PH98IMG.zip" without the quotes
Place both files on external SD card and reboot to recovery
Make a nandroid backup
Wipe data, cache, dalvic cache, and system
Flash the rom through the "Flash Zip Menu" in recovery
From main recovery screen, choose "Developer Menu"
Select "Reboot to Bootloader" from the developer menu
Phone will reboot to hboot, you may have to select bootloader from hboot screen
Bootloader will load the PH98IMG.zip, select "Yes" to update.
Rock on with your bad self and reboot system

Follow these steps to update to the lastest ICS leak for the Rezound this will update you to the new firmware then reflash BAMF and the PH98IMG just skip the parts for Scott's ROM.

Nevermind on my post about locking, I was able to do it and install the RUU from scott's. I will now try to reflash BAMF and hope everything works.

Well I wanted to follow the directions you posted, but for some reason I can't enable USB debugging even when the box is checked. So I can't lock the boot loader to follow the instructions using the all-in-one tool. Can I flash the RUU without having to relock the phone? or is there some other way to lock the phone via recovery menu and pc that I can do? I tried switching to ICS Ineffabilis, but it hanged after installation so I put BAMF back on and still same problems.
I guess to sum it up what do I need to do to relock bootloader manually?
also I tried to restore my nandroid back up from stock and it didn't work. I'm guess it is because I flashed that firmware for BAMF.

Right the ROM that you flashed was modified from the latest ICS leak from HTC and since you were on stock you should have flashed the old firmware PH98IMG since you didn't run the latest RUU. To run it the phone definitely has to be relocked if the command isn't recognized via fastboot you may need the HTC drivers provided with HTC sync I ran into that same problem. If you just want to go back to stock you have to restore your nandroid backup and flash a GB kernel to get it to boot properly. Hope this helps!
Cool lemme know how it turns out.

[Q] No recovery

I really need help. I unlocked my bootloader through htcdev.com and I flashed clockworkmod then I installed a rooted stock rom. then I installed rom manager and it made me flash clockwork mod again to use it so I did that. Now every time I try to boot into recovery I get the htc white splash screen for about 20 seconds then the phone reboots and I get no recovery. Anyone that has any idea on how to help please do so I am really lost here.
Go into the phone settings under power and uncheck fastboot....that should help

I would forget about using rom manager for now, just flash stuff manually in recovery. You're going to need to reflash your clockwork recovery, the one that was meant to be flashed with the htcdev.com unlock method. Also, I believe I saw someone post a TWRP that had been modified to work with the htcdev.com unlock method as well, so you could also search for that. Just download a PG86IMG.zip of the recovery you'll use, place it on your sd card, and then boot to the bootloader to flash the recovery. After that, you should be able to get back into recovery and restore a nandroid or flash a rom and start fresh.

[Q] Idiot's Guide to Clean ROM 1.5?

So I'm running an unlocked and rooted rez that I want to put clean rom 1.5 on. Thing of it is, I've never flashed a ROM on anything and am a complete newb in terms of programming anything. Could use some help.
As I understand it, I dl the zip and throw it on the SD card, and then I know I need to do a wipe and factory reset and install the zip through recovery (all of which I think I can do with ROM manager) but I don't know how to get all this done.
1) Do I need cleanflash and if so, what do I need to do with it and how?
2) How do you flash cleanROM 1.5 and not lose NFL mobile and facebook/twitter? (It says there are other files to flash before rebooting, I found them in the cleanROM zip but I don't know what to do with them)
Any help is greatly appreciated, sorry bout my kindergarten question but you gotta start somewhere
Here is a guide with lots of useful info. Rom Manager won't work right now because we are using a unofficial ClockworkMod recovery. I would highly suggest installing Amon RA as of right now, and nit using rom manager. This guide by Con will walk you thru what you need to do. Thank him, because though I have only been on the same phone/forum for a little while, I have come to respect what he does for us in these forums..Peace
Edit: For the apps you want to save, download titanium backup off of the market, and backup your apps. After you flash your new rom, redownload Titanium, and restore the apps you want. I would just do the app, and not the data as that can cause problems sometimes. Good Luck

1) CleanFlash definitely streamlines recovery/boot flashing. Just make sure to put the boot.img and recovery.img in the same directory as the zip files.
2) After flashing CleanRom in recovery, before you reboot flash the framework zip file in the CleanRom directory on your sd card.
Sent from my newly unlocked Rezound running CleanRom 1.5/Clockwork Mod.
Alright, well I just went ahead and gave it a shot. I flashed Clean ROM and the social networking zip and rebooted, then flashed recovery.img and boot.img with clean flash and rebooted. Does that basically cover it?
Not sure what the framework.zip file is, I didn't see it in recovery mode in the cleanrom folder, what does that file do and do I need to go through the paces again to flash it or can I just flash it now that I'm up and running?
The file is called Social Networking Framework.zip and it's located in the CleanROM directory on your SD Card after you flash the CleanRom 1.5 zip. The Verizon Bloat Services zip file contains your NFL mobile and other Verizon/HTC apps.
It is recommended that you flash these files before your first reboot. So I would say, yes, reflash CleanROM and make sure to follow all the steps in the CleanROM thread.
first timer
This will be my first time also installing a rom, I have unlocked the bootloader and it is left unlocked, I have rooted and installed amon ra recovery. I have downloaded the new clean rom 1.5.5 and not sure what to do next.
1)Do I have to unzip the files from my PC then put them on the sd card or leave it zipped I also need to install the Social network file also.
2)Do I have to update the boot.img if im coming from stock if so how?(tried the flashtool for aman ra and didn't work for me)
3) In the instructions under the rom thread it says install rom and reboo. will it just pop up and ask to install rom if I place it in the right folder?
Thanks for helping out a noob. Rom looks awesome.

1. Don't unzip the zip file just place on external SD card. Look in the instructions regarding Social network file I never used it.
2. Check the instructions for sure, but I think Clean rom still uses stock kernel so it would boot and run just wouldn't get the performance tweaks Scott puts in the kernel he uses. Otherwise, yes you would flash the boot.img after the rom before you boot up the first time. It really isn't hard if you just put the boot.img in the same folder you used to unlock that contains fastboot . Open up the command prompt while phone is in fastbootusb and type fastboot flash boot boot.img and viola it will flash the kernel for you . Then just reboot phone and your done.
3. Just place the downloaded zip onto the external sd card. Reboot into recovery ..chose the wipe data factory reset to wipe , then after it's wiped choose install zip menu .. choose the external sd card then find the zip select it and confirm you want to flash and bam. If you are going to install the boot.img at this point.. go back to main menu and find the choice for developer menu .. select it and then chose reboot to bootloader.. place the boot.img in your fastboot folder you used to unlock and do the command I typed in 2. above and it will flash the kernel. Then return to recovery and reboot !
Just read the instructions and they are pretty easy.
Actually, I think for 1.5.5 you will need to install the boot.img so just look at the instructions to get the boot.img out of the zip and the rest of the instructions are pretty clear.

Rezound won't boot

I flashed clean rom, flashed the patch in bootloader, and restarted. It is stuck on the boot screen. I did a battery pull and booted into the bootloader, but it is not allowing me to select recovery so that i can wipe or flash again. How can i get back into amon ra?
You will need to remove the PH98IMG file from your sd card and once back in recovery reflash but the patch needs to be flashed through recovery not bootloader.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Yeah, remove the PH98 from the sd and then wipe and re flash the rom, make sure you flash the boot img and old firmware patch. Use fastboot to flash the boot.img if you need to
ok, i removed the PH98IMG file, i was able to then get into recovery and wipe/re-flash the rom, but then how am i supposed to flash the patch if i removed it form my sd? i'm sorry for the silly questions.
You could download it again just don't rename it and flash from recovery.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Don't name the patch ph98 that's why it didn't boot. The installation of the rom copies the boot.img as a ph98img.zip to the sd, and if you already have a ph98img.zip it won't work. Also, make sure to boot the rom once before you flash the sd patch in recovery
ok, so i deleted the PH98IMG file from the sd card. only files on the card were the rom and the GB patch. i booted into recovery, wiped, flashed the rom, flashed the GB patch which is required and rebooted. Now i'm stuck at the same point on the boot screen.

You need to boot back into the bootloader so it can flash the PH98IMG which the rom created once that flashes you should be fine.
when i flash the rom the PH98IMG file is not being copied to the sd card. it even says in the instructions of the rom to place the rom, the PH98IMG file, and the GB patch to the sd card. I am S-ON, if that matters in this case.
Was there a download for the PH98IMG with the rom? If so you would need to download that and put it on your sd card. What version are you trying to install?
Open the zip for the rom, and flash the boot.img in fastboot from your computer. Dude it's like you're not even reading my posts. If you would have done what I said your problem would be solved by now

This is how you should have installed the rom
1. Place ROM and SD patch (old firmware patch) on SD Card
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Wipe
4. Install ROM and SD Patch
5. Reboot to hboot to install the PH98IMG.zip that was copied to your SD card during the installation.
6. If no PH98 file was copied, you would extract the boot.img from the ROM zip file and flash that in fastboot. It CANNOT be flashed in recovery on an S-ON device.
7. Reboot.
Like I said, if you had taken the time to read my post thoroughly you would have understands what I meant.
---------- Post added at 07:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:36 PM ----------
But anyways you got your problem fixed so that doesn't matter anymore. Just remember to read instructions thoroughly
well, i still don't understand completely tbh....the PH98IMG.zip has to be placed on the sd card prior to flashing the rom according to the dev's instructions. the problem is, when it is pre-placed onto the sd card, i cannot boot into recovery.
i'm back on viper rom. flashing cleanrom after viper still did not work. i thought it was because it got past the white htc screen the past time but was still stuck on the boot screen after all.
No the ph98img is copied during installation

well now my mind is completely blown, bc when i first installed cleanrom i did it the exact way i described...and i don't see where it says adb recovery?
Method 4: Installation for S-ON Devices on Gingerbread firmware
Copy ROM to SD Card AND PH98IMG.zip AND GB Firmware Patch to ROOT of SD Card
Reboot to recovery
wipe data / Factory Reset
Flash ROM
Flash GB Fimrware Patch
Use Developer Menu to reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img file in the PH98IMG.zip
Reboot
Profit!
NOTE: If you are not S-OFF or on ICS Firmware you will need to download the Extra's and place them on the root of your SD Card BEFORE you flash the ROM! They are no longer included in the ROM file itself!

Things seemed so much easier on my D1 and DX, haha. i used to flash 5 roms a day to test them out on my X, everything on htc just seems a bit more technical.

Its because the DX didn't have custom kernels. 2nd init was used to override Motorola's services. Thats why the dx and d2 got cyqnogenmod. The 2nd init allowed the devs to use aosp libs and such that complied with the pre- existing kernel values. The rezound's boot loader allows for the installation of kernels through hboot, but not recovery. (If your s-on at least). I reccomend you try incredikernel because it shows truly what the benefits of flashing custom kernels are. Hope I helped :3, I do agree that the rezound is a little harder to hack because I came from a Droid 2, but custom kernels are nice. Unfortunately I'm on the leaked ics ruu and there's no kernel source which means no custom ics kernels yet.

Sir, patience with the newcomer please.
Part of the problem is that you are telling him the ph98img file is extracted during the install. Well, according to the installation directions, it is NOT. The user is directed to download the ph98img file and the patch before hand.

Question about flashing ROMs and kernel

Hi all,
I'd like to try newtoroot's one XxX sense 4 ICS rom as my first ROM on the rezound Clicking through newtoroot's XDA thread takes me to the following link:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?12042-Rom-Newts-OnE-XxX-RLS-3-(Sense-4-ICS-4-0-3)-6-14-2012
Apologies for these newbie questions...
1. Just to confirm, the order of flashing would be the RLS 3.1.2 zip, followed by the RLS 3.2.1 patch, then the boot.img?
2. The boot.img flashes the kernel correct? I am currently running the ICS OTA, S-off, Amon Ra 3.15, locked bootloader. I can't use fastboot to flash the boot.img. How do I flash it with a locked bootloader? I think I need to make it into a ph98img.zip but not sure how
3. I feel like I should back up the stock kernel just in case. Does a nandroid made under Amon Ra 3.15 with the default checked settings (the first four on the list) also back up the stock kernel?

1- flash 3.1.2, the boot image, boot into the Rom then into recovery and flash 3.2.1.
2- if you are s-off why don't you just flash jupunto bear hboot? It makes everything a lot easier.
3-I'm not sure but I think it does back up the kernel. If I'm wrong someone correct me.
1. You're s-off, the boot image (kernel) will get flashed automatically with the rom installer, you don't need to flash it separately.
2. See 1.
3. Yes the kernel gets backed up when you do a backup with the default settings in Amon Ra. Since you're s-off you can restore it via Amon Ra also if needed.

Oh it doesn't work? I tried the taking photo during video and it crashed the phone. Had to a battery pull And now it seems like I have to reboot twice everytime I want a clean boot - the first time it just boots up to a corrupted boot screen. However everything seems to work on the second reboot - except the two arrows beneath the 4g signaling data download/upload do NOT light up any more. Any ideas?
EDIT: oops apparently data arrows don't work in general on sense 4.0 roms from what I've read.

have you tried to flash any other roms? and make sure smart flash is enabled when trying to flash your rom?, or you can re-partition your device with 4EXT then use the "toggle usb" to mount your sd card and place the rom on there then try and flash it
Had that issue with a friend. Your internal storage is corrupted. Toggle USB and go on your computer. Right click the internal SD and format it. Restart recovery and it will be good to go.

If you are still facing problems, you could always use this S-Off only tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762936

here's a way to return to stock RUU, you need the all-in-one toolkit from hasoon2000
download this file Here and rename it to PH85IMG.zip (this file is for ICS) the older one for GB didnt work for me
use the "Relock Bootloader" command on hasoon's toolkit to relock your bootloader (i received a security warning when doing so, but still worked)
place the PH85IMG.zip file on the root of your SD Card
turn off device and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery then simultaneously hold the volume down and power buttons (to boot fastboot)
Fastboot will detect the image file on your external storage. After it loads, accept the "update" - this will revert you to stock (including recovery and radio).

yes the file listed in that quote is the one for wind mobile.. i updated it
I'm probably coming too late, but I ran into this issue before. It's because I flashed a new Rom, and rebooted my phone before finishing the initial setup. You have to get passed that first and get to the home screen, or the internal sd card doesn't get partitioned properly. Did you do something similar to this?
In any case, I wish you luck!
