Does R mean 4G LTE?
Mine only says I717, does that mean it's not 4G LTE capable?
If not, I might as well just return it and get the R version.
Or am I totally wrong?
Google/XDA search didn't provide any information about this.
Thanks
BTW, I have AT&T SGH I717

I'm pretty sure that the hardware is the same for all models, just the firmware is slightly different, so they should all be LTE capable, but I can't confirm that for sure.

Those however, run the Exinos chipset, and not the Qualcomm, and only support HSPA+ and not LTE. The chipset is faster, and the data is slower.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! The Rogers internals are different. Uses Qualcomm, the others don't. 1.5 Ghz processor compared to 1.4. The Rogers Note -r is a entirely different beast.

The N7000 and I9220 are physically different on the inside and the outside from the I717 Note version. They have a physical home button and run an entirelly different chipset.

I've read somewhere that AT&T version i717 came first, and then 'lettered' versions for Canada appeared. So they are slightly newer and better revision, but I have no idea to what extent.

Hi, i hv a question. If i buy the galaxy s2 from korea, will it work in Canada?
Whatever you do, do not buy a Korean SGSII. The Korean SGSII is highly localized with a different type of SMS that Canada uses right now. It's going to be a real pain in the butt trying to get it to work in Canada which is why I suggest getting an international version or a US version when it comes out.

Korean galaxy model support frequncies are follow.
UMTS single 2100
GSM 900/1800/1900
so, if your carrier frequencies are UMTS 850/1900 , you can't use it.
(i heard that some of carrier support UMTS 850/1900)
and Our korea SKT model using their own SMS(SK-MMS).
(KT model support OMA-MMS)
Finally, i can NOT recommend you are using to our korean galaxy using in canada.
And in Italy? would it be usable in Italy?
Thank you guys

Just to hijack the thread, does anyone have a source on a compiled SHW-250S/SHW-250K firmware so I can mess around with it and reflash it back just in case I need to send it back in for warranty?
If not i'll just have to do it myself from the open source release, hmm

System dump I guess? And repackage them Odin flashable (.tar)
I have not tried yet but probably work.
I would do that if I wasn't a silly and flashed before dumping the original firmware. Carrier specific settings I can get easily enough from talking to a service rep, but they'll probably raise eyebrows at the odd firmware without any of their branding and the giant yellow caution sign, lol
No big deal atm, i'm still fooling around.
Quick question... does anyone know if the ringtones and notifications and other media are available from the Korean SGS2?
I dont want the international version
Just the Korean version.. Thank you

sorry for bumping a old thread. Any idea if I can flash a korea galaxy S2 with a stock international version Android firmware? or any custom ROM I can flash with? And how do I do it? Yeah, like the topic says... How do I know if my sgs2 is a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (SGH-T989) device?
mine is bought in Finland (Europe)
Well you'd probably only get the SGS-T989 in the USA because of it's AWS frequencies. T-Mobile in Europe uses same frequencies as everyone else so it would be a GT-i9100. You can always check under the battery instead of asking too, it say it right there what it is.

Umm, No that means you have a GT-i9100. If you had a SGS-T989 it would say that which is a T-Mobile USA Galaxy S2 device, you have a International (original) Galaxy S2 device. The T-Mobile (USA) one as you wrote is SGH-T989. AT&T USA is SGH-I777. There's also a Sprint one as well.

Since all the U.S. phone companies are getting the Galaxy S3, I was wondering if rooting and flashing roms was going to be compatible with all the U.S versions of the GS3's like the jailbreaking and cydia apps are for all the Iphones 4s? Just wondering because if so the development is going to be crazy by all main carriers having it (GS3).
Rooted apps will work the same or SHOULD work the same across different platforms.. ROMs however will not.
There will be different files for each carrier's device. Meaning the method of rooting will be very similar but the files will be device specific. Hope that answers your question!

Since the only difference between carriers should be the radios, and hardware is exactly the same, can't the roms and kernels be shared?

This is my hope. That all GSM North American versions will be identical. The Verizon and Sprint versions will be one-off's though, IMO, due to CDMA requirements. Are there any S4 phones that are identical in hardware between GSM and CDMA in North America? I'm not aware of any, but I don't pay attention to VZW/Sprint lineups either

Yeah that's true I suppose. Though there is no oneclick root for the s3, so you'll probably need different files. Right now we get root by means of flashing a kernel or a zip... both of which have to be for the right device.

Samsung is a great device for Modding.. very very easy, unlocked bootloaders, and we have Chainfire xD! His impact on this community is enormous. None of it would be possible without him.. and his mobile Odin app, which is even cooler because all this is done without the use of a PC. Samsung smartphones ..especially the galaxy S series are arguably the best supported device in terms of what you can do and how easily!

You actually mean I9305 which I own but I am from australia. There was a user from the US on t-mobile and he stated it worked Only on Edge... Dont ask me what Edge is.. I am thinking it is like 3G... Unfortuanetly the device will not work on your 4G network. One user purchase his from ebay for $800 I beleive it is still showing and here is the link. Location is apparently in Texas, Houston.... Only thing is its only in Black.. I myself have the Grey_Titanium which I love!... But hey if you love black gadgets your in luck!

yup, the i9300 is indeed compatible with AT&T's 3G (i'm using it right now as we speak). In some regions, T-Mo's 3g also works, but there's a link somewhere that shows you exactly where the 1900mhz band is in use.
@OP
if you're going to get the tmo (USA) version, you should check out the appropriate forum for it (no sure what the exact model number is, but you'll find it). Flashing anything from this forum would most probably brick your new phone (due to differences in some hardware and software).

Also if you look at software version 4.2.2 that is too new for the Aviator. It also has a newer MD2 baseband and the kernel in it was built just like 5 days ago. I am pretty sure this is a development device. I cant find a proper ROM to flash to it either. I have tried LTE and GSM and CDMA versions. No luck. If you google device information I can find a few quadrant and open 3D benchmarks that have been run but that is it.
