The galaxy player deception :-(. - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

When the SGP came out i was so excited to buy, and when i bought it, i tried to plug it in to my tv via mhl and to use ps3 controller on it...but it didin't work, so a grabed the nokia rca cable, didin't work either. I got mad at my brother because he is the one that told me to buy the SGP and he said that it does have tv out suport and usb host, but it dosen't. Anyways i have moved on and bought the Samsung Galaxy tab 7.0 plus, and it satisfy me all my needs such as playing games on tv, use usb controllers, mice, keyboard, flash drives etc.
Sorry about my horrable english and please don't laugh if something is written wrong. Thanks

Well, maybe that's a lesson to do a little of your own research before you go buy a expensive electronic device! Seriously though, it is too bad that there is no TV out, USB host I can live without. Btw, you can still use a ps3 remote, Google 'sixaxis controller Android'. All you need is a PC with Bluetooth to pair it, I beleive. I haven't actually used it as I don't have a ps3, but I, think other people with sgp have.

In my eyes, Samsung's deception is not even attempting an ICS update for a $200-$300 device that came out only months ago...
Then again, I'd rather use a community-developed ROM anyhow. In all my experience they run faster and more stable.

You are absolutely right! This has put me off any other Samsung device.

In my case, I was wondering about buy an iPod Touch or an other device then I decided to buy the SG S Wifi 5, 3 days ago I have no complaints it is a nice gadget.
It's sad that it will not get the ICS update because it is a great device , but as far I know it is not official (I'm not really sure). But you always find developers to build an ICS rom.

The roms are better tho because the have better features

I'd rather have CM9 than ICS anyway. Who needs TV out most of the time either? It'd be a cool feature, but I wouldn't expect a device like this to have it.

Do you mean you would rather have CM9 than an official ICS update from Samsung?

wiimote support [request]

I know sense and touchwiz (htc/samsung) phones dont support the proper bluetooth profiles for controllers like ps3 or the wiimote, but i believe we should band together and do a bounty for someone to develop such a method (kernel?) that allows for them to connect.
currently im on cognition beta 4 for galaxys2 att, so if i can stay on cognition and be able to connect to ps3 or wiimote id be forever happy!

Sure does. Personally used and loved it. (Before I bought a dual shock 3)
It works because CM7 , being an AOSP ROM, actually uses a standard BT stack. (Come on Samsung!)
With that said, I'd be in extreme favor of any Dev who could mod Samsungs BT stack to work with the Wiimote.

Ohhh yeah it does, I remember reading that. The only problem is you cant use MHL Tv out which is pretty much the whole reason I would want Wiimote support, haha. I did hear though that ICS's Bluetooth stack is modified to work with the Wiimotes, so once that rolls out, we could have both. but. only time can tell :\

Doesn't work over here for me..
I just ran across a thread in the i9100 forums that said it now works on stock CM9 but I can't get it to go.
Even if I manually enter the address of my Wiimote in Wiimote Controller, instead of the BT PIN code screen popping right up, now I get a notification in the notification bar that I have a pairing request. Clicking the notification just brings up the PIN code entry screen.
I guess both the Wiimote and MHL are working for the i9100 with CM9 and the Samsung stock ICS but doesn't work for me on the i777.. I haven't tried the latest ATT ICS leak but I may give in and try it tonight after work..
i777 CM9-based kernels cannot pair with a Wiimote yet due to unavailable kernel sources. Also, the leaked official ICS firmware can.

I can't remember which leak I was using... I thought it was LD3. It was right before it was announced that they were responsible for hard bricking, I think. I know it was before Task removed them from the post he put them in.

Why arent there any custom CM7 roms?

I have cm7 running on my tablet and it runs great, but Im wondering why no one has bothered to use its drivers and stuff to port something like Miui or even post up themed tweaked versions of CM7?

i was thinking about this the other day, isn't it taking alot longer than usual, compared to let's say a HD2? That initial hype of porting Android on to the touchpad seems to have died down.
not saying this in an impatient way or demoralizing developers and their hard work, cuz they are doing one heck of a job to get peoplewhat they want most of all on their fondle slab
....is it because not many developers are interested in the touchpad?...couldn't get hold if one?
That said HP's new move of selling touchpads only to developers might work in favour of getting some momentum to port Android on it

I'd be really interested in seeing a Sense ROM ported from the Puccini/Jetstream. A lot of the hardware is apparently quite similar, and it'd probably make for a better tablet-ified experience while we wait for ICS.
Although, with ICS so close, it's probably not worth it.

ICS source comes out in a couple weeks.
It would be pointless to spend weeks working on a port of something, if the new version comes out shortly.
Devs are just waiting for ICS source to drop.
Plus the HD2 was a totally different scenario.
It was made by one of the largest android phone makers, and the hardware in the phone was similar to its android counterparts.
Why don't you make us one minds?

the Touchpad is not an android tablet!!!
It is a WebOS tablet.
It takes a lot of work to get a different OS working properly.
name me other tablets that have stable android and did not come stock with android.

This is not their day job.

I'm happy with what has been posted so far from CM. I haven't had a lot of issues with what has been released. I guess I have too much going on to be concerned with changes to the touchpad. I can patiently wait for ICS to be released. I'd have to imagine it will be easier to work with since it ICS is designed with tablets in mind.

ICS is designed as a hybrid with phones and tablets in mind. If you really just want tablet, then use the Honeycomb source which has also just been released.

ICS release, it's mean Honeycomb is over

ICS source already released on market by Google, it's mean Honeycomb is over ?
ICS design running both on mobile phone and Tablet, who's going to use Honeycomb on tablet anymore ?
Since honeycomb source was never released, the only people running it would be tablets that haven't gotten the update, ergo honeycomb will be over once everyone picks up an update

I did the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago. I really didn't like honeycomb at all. I really hope ICS is better. I am going to be truly disappointed if it is a lot like honeycomb. I guess I will be one of the few with Gingerbread on an Evo3D a year from now. Hopefully HTC can get the ugliness gone with Sense.

Honeycomb Source was released because it had to be released due to Open Source Licensing. (GPL & LGPL)
Even thought the development of Honeycomb has pretty much dead ended with ICS source being dropped, to remain in compliance they had to release it.
The only reason they didn't, as I understand it, is it still being a bit buggy and the fear of people trying to port it to phones resulting in mass hysteria.

Why do you guys threat Honeycomb and CM7 as completely different OS? 3.0 is way better than 2.3, its better optimized, runs more smoothly, has more features. CM7 is alpha, its ****, not better than Honeycomb 3.0. It would be cool if someone manage to port honeycomb into our touchpads until CM teams decides to make a ICS port which they have said will take 2 months.

Unfortunately (as you'll find out soon once you start reading these forums) until Samsung releases ICS official for the GT10.1, we don't have camera drivers that work with ICS. So, unfortunately, the answer to your question is no, but probably will happen within a few hours of Samsung releasing ICS (whenever that is....). As far as I've heard, it's a pretty gimmicky feature anyways (doesn't work in the dark, doesn't always recognize, slow...)
BTW, if you must, go ahead and suggest that someone use the driver from HC. I'm sure nobody has thought of that yet. (Excuse the sarcasm. Every time a new person finds out that we can't use the camera without Samsung's drivers, they always suggest something simple, as if none of the devs had considered it before...).

Gingerbread ROM on Galaxy SIII

Howdy,
For testing purposes I want to load a pre-ICS ROM on my GalaxyS3. I need the flash built in that got dropped with ICS.
Has anyone tried this? If so, what are recommended ROMs?
If no one has done this, what ROMs are closest to what the S3 runs and would stand the greatest chance of working?
Thanks,
Joe

to be equally fair, i'm in the same boat. i had a captivate for a while, loved the gb roms i flashed constantly to find my favourite. bought an s2 and absolutely love the phone. i hard bricked my previous s2, i dont think i had the right kernel, something i did was for a non canadian version of the s2. after i sold that one i bought another brand new s2. the s3 was around for a little while at this point but my girlfriend has a galaxy nexus and her sister an s3 and i just dont like the way ics and jb look, feel and operate. it felt like switching from windows to a mac after using windows for years. i would go to close a window and the 'x' was in the upper left and not right like windows.
its a personal opinion, i'm sure in many ways firmwares past gb are better in many quantifiable ways, but i just dont like em. not to mention the stupid physical home button like some loser iphone. i love the 4 backlit buttons that samsung uses on many devices like the blu ray player i have. it's just awesome.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of android?
in closing, think of the amount of roms out there for the captivate which are based on froyo people still use. gb ics and even jb roms are available but many people still prefer the look and feel of froyo.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of
Got a couple of thousand to spare might interest a dev otherwise not likely .
Try one of the developer forums where devs have a contact or question route .
