Just got a new Lumia 800 and updated it to the latest 12070 firmware and it's really loud. It was like it before, but it just seems like they way over power the speaker on this phone.
1/30 is loud enough that I can hear my music play from my phone a room away, when it seems like 1/30 should be barely audible unless it's fairly close to you. Am I taking crazy pills? Is any one else's phone like this?
It's a known bug in the 12070 firmware, there's not much to do about it, except rolling back to the previous firmware...

Interesting how I didn't find anything about this until after I already made the post....
Is there a guide on rolling back updates (preferably without wiping?)
I get this bug from time to time, sometimes with music and sometimes with games/apps, 1-5 is max volume, and 6-30 seems normal.
I usually just close what ever it is and open it again and it seems to be ok!
Annoying bug though!

Restore your backup Ofcourse, all data put on the phone after you updated will be lost.
As with all things, hind sight is king.
Unfortunately I did not make a backup, am I pretty much screwed?
If you updated via Zune it should have created a backup. For the CAB-Sender and flashing variants: You could reflash an older Version however it could void your warranty.
I have this bug as well, but it only affects certain games and music for about 1 second after incoming calls. I hope the new firmware is coming soon... also, tethering?

Not a big deal really but it actually IS annoying at times: the lowest step is way too high for when you need a really "quiet" notification, and the sound is messed up in some situations. E.g. If you're playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit the last 3-4 steps are buggy because only certain sounds are played, and the sound generally stutters a little. There are similar bugs with other games as well...

Hi,
I have read conflicting info on the status of the volume issue on the X10.
I have a X10 - now running Free X10 2.2 Beta 3 (LOVE IT!).. but the in call volume (and speakerphone) is still atrocious. I'm not after a debate as to whether you have the same problems or not, many people clearly have this problem.. for me it is so bad that I can generally not hear a phone call unless I am indoors and in a very quiet location..
Does anyone know;
a) Is Sony Ericsson actually working on a fix .. or are they just ignoring this. Xperia-x10 quoted last august that SE are working on it.. but it seems a long time for no fix to arrive
b) is this possible to be fixed in a custom ROM.. or is it impossible until the bootloader is cracked.
I have Poweramp, so I can sort of boost the volume when playing music, but honestly this could easily be 20 - 50% louder and then it would be similar to most other phones.
Anyone with anything helpful.. I would be most appreciative.
CheerS!

I have read that the problem can't be fixed unless the bootloader is hacked, or Sony actually come out with a fix.
Can anyone confirm this. I have read through 300 pages of posts on Free X10 Beta 2 /3 , and there is NO mention of a volume fix in the works.

No problem bro.
hate to say it but I suspect it's hardware limited - I don't think that the earpiece speaker that they've put in (most, if not all of the units) isn't really upto the job - mines better since the 2.1 update, but I still have to have it on full volume.. when I use a headset though, it's fine... in fact I have to turn the volume down a bit.
I had my hearing tested for work, I heard near 0 decibels, I've used the dog whistle app and according to that I can hear 18Khrtz.
It's not "us", It's the phone.
I'm dying to get this solved. My X10 lives in a drawer and I have since gotten a BlacBerry torch ( Which by the way is the most boiled pop-tart of a phone) and the sound is much better.
I still bring it to restaurants and play Angry Birds on it

Succeeding fw updates caused more problems than improvements.
Rapid Battery drain issues
Wifi connection issues
Reboot looping
Audio player forced closures
White screen issues
Sluggish performance
UI fluidity update caused screen transition jerkiness
Deep sleep issues
Tethering issues
Very limited in going back to previous fw's
etc, etc, etc.....
And what about all the stuff that was defect in 2.1.0.8?
All the things you are talking about have effected a few users and thousends have never heared of them.
Wifi is mostly connected to the router ( ok that stupid >10channel thing coming back now and then ).
Batteriedrain is in 99% caused by the use of some software that doesn't let the tab sleep.
UI, if you stay with the std launcher there is no help. This is the same for every Android device, that's the reason why every rom has some other Launcher included.
Otherwise everything you talk about is fixed .
Is you glas half full or half empty?
Have you even considered that you are doing something wrong?

Again, if you are happy any firmware updates since 2.1.8, what are they specifically and why?
I never upgraded my 101 beyond 2.1.08 because it was stable for me. I did briefly play with a tablet with a newer firmware and didn't notice any issues.
I am still on 3.2.61 on my Gen tablet because it is working for me and none of the changelogs have mentioned Bluetooth fixes, which is my main issue.

Do you know this page:
http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/changes_firmware_archos_android_gen8.htm
Here's another questions:
Why do some users stick to the old times, while others live on the bleeding edge of daily updates?
I am happy with the updates, and i don't know any reason why not to do it.
The only thing that i miss sometimes are the working mpg codecs in the 2.3.81 firmware.
Have fun!

I usually take the first two or three updates immediately after release. If my Archos is working fine, then I usually wait to see what others say before updating after that, unless it is an OS upgrade or there is something in the changelog that fixes an issue I have. One of the reasons I wait is because sometimes you can't downgrade the firmware if you have major issues.
i lost usb mouse
Hdmi viewing has always been a pain but with a ussb mouse i could gey around. Now its gone! So is my extenal keyboard.
This sucks.
Has anyone noticed any issues with speakerphone after flashing roms? When I make a call, it's horribly quiet. It'll play other media out of the back speaker like music and ringtones, just quiet on calls. Checked to make sure everything was turned up. Any thoughts?
Sent from under your bed using xda premium
I remember the was a tweak on the htc eris that allowed the speaker to almost double in volume. I'll have to research and post back. The only issue was some people would blow their speaker, hehe.be careful what you wish for.

As a bandaid fix you could try turning on the hearing aid option in accessibility settings. Doesn't get to the root of the problem of course.

I tried that, but it just won't boost the sound. I've used a bunch of different apps, looked for different mods, but nothing seems to work. The crazy thing is that all other sounds from that speaker are perfectly normal. Music is loud and clear, all notifications are loud, it's just that damned speakerphone. It's just annoying since I usually hate to hold my phone up to my ear when I talk.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully I'll find something or someone knows a good trick.

Using Ziggy's kernel. I'd go back to stock, but I like this kernel too much to go back. Guess I'll just deal with the lack of a good speakerphone.
Basically, stuff that wasn't advertised. So far I see:
1.) the hissing in the audio seems to be pretty much gone, which is awesome
2.) they added the battery meter thing into the "power" menu
3.) when synced to facebook, peoples birthdays are no longer a day earlier than they really are in the People app..they're the right date now!
------
to be tested:
1.) see if they got rid of the clicks/pops of the video camera (going to try to do a guitar video tomorrow to test) ****TESTED and they still have NOT fixed this. the audio is still god awful.
anyone else notice anything cool that wasn't advertised?
realllllllly? nobody noticed anything else? lol
Everyone else is rooted and still figuring out how to get the OTA! lol.
Seriously, if I'm not mistaken, those that are rooted and go right back to their nand, like I'm about to do, won't see the changes except the radios and hboot version.
EDIT: Restored my nand of Ineffabilis and I still see the 5 bars, I see the battery level indicator but not in the "power" menu, in the "About phone > battery" menu. I hope that means the calendar date thing is fixed too since I'm about to break down and sign up on Facebook.
lol nice nice..yeah, i'm not rooting it yet. the phone is working 100% how i want it to, and i don't feel like rooting and throwing roms on there..when i rooted the Inc, i went through a new rom like every week, and i can't keep doing that to myself lol

Ack! They still didn't fix that compression distortion in the audio track? Damn, thats like the only reason I rarely ever record video on this thing. I wish they would fix that. It makes it sound like s**t. The other day I tested the video after I bolted on a quiet muffler on my car. In the video, I can still hear that compression noise very loudly, even with a quiet exhaust sound. Dohhhhh come on htc.....
yeah im gonna keep hitting them up until something gets fixed lol... either way, I bit the bullet and rooted lol so hopefully the devs can work on it now

Has anyone had a problem with the music app? It's no big deal but sometimes it locks-up and won't open unless I turn the phone off and turn it on again.
Skype wants to use earpiece for audio now rather than speaker on video calls. Not sure how to change it, but, it also means I can do a video call with my Bluetooth headset which is kind of nice. I tried this before the update and it didn't work.

Hey fellas,
I updated from perfectly working CM9 last week to CM10 now. I set all volumes to MAX in the settings but have the feeling, that it's still not as loud as it used to be. I just received a phone call and wasn't really able to hear what the other person said, because it was just a notch too quiet.
I looked through the first 10 pages of every SGS2 section but couldn't find a fix. So... is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there a solution to turn the phone sounds up? (ringer, text, alarm, calls, etc)

Maybe CM10 has that issue , go back to CM9 as i used CM9 and it was awesome experience :good:
The only sound issue that I've noticed on cm10 was using headphones...but you can use ex tweaks/stweaks to get a powerful volume using headphones!

CM10 has some volume bugs. If you don't want them the statement made before is true: return to CM9
However you can indeed install another kernel that support extweaks/stweaks to turn the volume up, but in that way you loose support in the CM10 thread.

bummer... I really like CM10 and kind of don't want to downgrade again
I just remembered that with Lightningrom you simply had a fix - hoped to have something similar in this case so that all sorts of tweaking can stay away from me. haha!
thanks for your help!
