I keep accidentally setting off the contacts widgets when I flick them in an upward motion to get to the list view that is below them. Then I'm calling someone I don't want to and screens are closing as I try to frantically fidget back to kill the call. This is really driving me to drink. All I want is the list view for the contacts not the widgets. Is there a way to disable the widgets out of the contacts app? Or is there a modded contacts apk?

I am using ADW Launcher and the GMail widget causes the the homescreens to always switch to the one where the widget is when the tablet is rotated. Anyone else noticed this?
This also happened to me after i added the Email widget! Even worse, LaunherPro FC's and I'll have to repick my default launcher (wich is LP) every time i reboot and the launcher is loaded.
I've done nothing else but rooted my tab.

I had the same problem. It annoyed me so much that I went back to stock launcher.

I only had these problems straight after doing the gmail widget fix since i lost gmail widget after rooting so i tried this;
Solution: uninstall both your launcher switcher and launcher, then install latest home switcher (the gingerbread ready), and reinstall launcher.
Now, change transition effect, if you have that option, to 'none' and turn off high quality scrolling etc...
I'm now running a pretty heavy homescreen including gmail widget, emailwidget, several widgetsoids, twitter widget, facebookwidget, g+ widget and some other stuff on latest bonsaiROM, and everything runs smooth. Note: I was already on latest bonsaiROM when the problems occured

Hey guys,
I installed launcher pro on my phone and use it as my preferred launcher. However, even when the settings under dock are checked, I don't get a number letting me know I have a new text message over the icon in the dock. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, have you found a solution or is this something the developer has to fix? Thanks for the help
+1
Just installed LP and the dock notifications are not working.
I've got LauncherPro (Plus) on my GS2 and the notification icon is working for the text messages. I don't use the missed phone or gmail notifications. I also changed my dock shortcuts to the stock shortcuts and stock icons. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I also use Handcent as my default messaging application and turn off notification bar notices for all but a few close contacts (daughter, hubby, etc.).
LPP is my default home app...
When I was using LPP (with custom icons), my notifications for all three stopped working after a while. I switched to Go Launcher EX with notifications, and they didn't work either. It's pretty damn annoying.
It was originally working for me as well. I read somewhere that Google had patched Gmail for security reasons but I forgot to disable updates on Gmail ... so I think when I did the mass app updates in Market that it broke it like it did last time on my HTC aria. I'm assuming we need the original apk now but I have a feeling we're screwed ... I don't want to revert to my cwm backup since I did so much tweaking since then but it may be the only way to get email notification to work again.

Okay I restored my stock rooted backup in cwm and almost immediately market tried downloading Gmail updates. I killed my data connection before it finished downloading and cleared market cache and data. I froze Gmail and started the market with data connection again ... so far I still have notification in Launcher Pro but who knows if there's a way to disable Gmail app updates in the future?

Anybody else upset that it doesn't come with one ? Any suggestions for alternatives?
Really depends on what info you want to see but I use Simple Calendar myself.

I used Simple Calendar in the past. But now I use the Today widget that comes with the phone.
I'm a big fan of the Pure Calendar, it's a pay for app.
i really like the LauncherPro calendar widget...
I like the business calendar widget, can take up a full page on the home screen if you want it to

I went and installed the TouchWiz 4.5 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883 and it works flawlessly. It has the Calendar widget as well as some really cool features not found in TW4. I highly recommend this for someone wanting a near stock TW experience with some really functional tweaks.

+1 for the business calendar widget, or there is also android agenda widget, which is pretty customizable, and will also scroll if the launcher you are using supports that....
If you just want a list of upcoming appointments, Agenda Widget is awesome. Very customizable, though it takes some work to get it just the way you want. In just a 4x1 space on my screen I can see my next 4 appointments, with little bullets next to them telling me which calendar they are from.

Eh? Am I missing some detail about this question? My device has 2 calendar widgets pre-installed: Agenda and Today. Agenda takes up most of a home screen and scrolls to display lots of calendar appts; Today just shows the current/next appt for the current day.
is there really no month view calendar widget for tw launcher that links up with google calendar?
i have tried go launcher ex and the calendar widget on that is perfect, but i want to run tw launcher instead.
i dont want to add agenda or today widget because i want a month view. any suggestions?

This is a list of bloatware removed from the Cognition ROM:
http://ponack.net/designgears/Cognition777/removed/
The TwCalendarAppWidget.apk listed there has a month view. I believe it's from the Euro SGS2 version of Touchwi but not sure. Anyway, replace the corresponding app on your phone with the one from the link. Worked for me on UnNamed 1.3.1.
Attachment so you can see what it looks like. Not bad.
thanks!
do you know which folder it goes in?
is is possible to theme?
/system/app
same one as your current TwCalendarAppWidget.apk should be in. It should be possible to theme using all the normal tools, apk manager etc.
EDIT: OK, now you got me curious. I was able to decompile, edit some XML and recompile without problems, so yes, I'd say it definitely is possible to theme it. FWIW, I changed the first day of the week to Sun (normally Mon.). I might do a full flashable mod with different themes and what not. But it will take me at least a week b/c I am busy with stuff. No promises!
EDIT 2: Oh, never mind, my changes were superficial. All I did was change the day of the week label, not the display of the widget. Still a good project. Not sure at this point if it is above my head...
EDIT 3: Ok, now this is just getting embarrassing. Using the apk I linked to, all you have to do it go into the Touchwiz Calendar app, go to preferences, and set your First day of the week preference. Widget should reflect this change, otherwise, delete and re-add widget and it should be there!
I SWORE I tried this before and it didn't work.

Pure Grid Calendar is absolutely gorgeous. I have a month view on my lock screen and a week view 4x4 on one of my homescreens.
It pulls from multiple google calendars and displays duration bars corresponding to your events.
Simply stunning. Hands-down one of my best app purchases.
I would like to have a quick access shortcut from my homescreen to certain gmail group contacts. Clicking on the shortcut should bring up all my work contacts for example. It sounds simple enough but I can't for the life of me find an app our widget for this. Anyone have any suggestions.

I am using Photo Contacts Widget from the Market (free). I actually have this set up twice on my Photon, one for personal contacts and one for business contacts.
I want to use a more customizable launcher, but really like the s planner widget. Is it possible to get this working with another launcher, or is it kind of 'built in' to touch wiz?
You don't get the option to add the widget on any launchers I've tried and can't find a better, or as good as 3rd party calender.
Thanks

Yes I too like the S Planner widget especially the tasks widget however I'm using Apex launcher.
Anyone found out yet how to port this?
Or.... is there a way to make Touch wiz launcher 5x4 in portrait?
Thanks heaps
Hey guys I'm new to the galaxy :silly: I have an s2 i9100 and touchwiz for me ranks as one of the worst UIs I have ever used (motoblur is my top hate).
but the two things I really liked was the S Planner app and widget, I even copied the 3 related apks from the phone before I switched to miui. now I wish I new a way to get them working but I wouldn't be very good at it and I probably would stuff it up some how.
I've been trying to get pure calendar widgets to work in the same way as the s planner widget (the widget is all I want).
I'll upload the 3 apks if anyone is interested but with all my research the sad fact is no touchwiz no S Planner widget :crying:
by the way if anyone out there knows how to get just a basic month view setup with the pure calendar widget can you please help me?
I don't want
scrolly nonsense
current day/week at top
timeline view confabulary
100000000 widget sizes
I just want
show current month with tap to view next previous month
show upcoming events from my synced calendars (google)
tap on day to view that days events.
thanks for your time.
