I'm not responsible for any damages to your phone. Neither am I responsible, if the phone becomes alive, runs away, dominates or kills you ;P
Also, if you don't know how to flash this, then you probably shouldn't... just saying...
All this work is done "blind", since I don't have a note, so be thankful to the testers, who were willing to sacrifice their devices

correct, I dont have a device (yet)
and I still need someone to test this (possible flash counter reset)...

Hmmmm. I'm highly tempted. Do you know if it would be a hard brick or soft brick? Sorry for asking if there's no way to tell.

hard brick,
otherwise i wouldn't ask
my "usual" testers all are out of the 30 days return policy

That's what I figured. I'll check my receipt when I get home in like 3 hours. If I'm still in the 30 days I'll give it a go for you.

If these Glas T protectors were not 35 bucks I would be game, hard to take the risk on that kind of cash though.

braway said:
I need a tester
please pm me, if you fulfill the following criteria:
- you own your phone less then 30 days/have phone insurance and you are willing to return & replace it with a new one (or you have too much money)
- you own the at&t i717
- your flash counter is not 0 (meaning, you flashed a recovery or a kernel using odin)
- you are willing to potentially brick your device (thus the return&replace)
- your phone has cwm installed
Thanks
PS: chance to brick the phone is 50:50, even though I'm pretty confident that it won't brick...but I won't guarantee anything...

I wish I saw this before dropping my note off at the UPS store a few hours prior to your post. I meet every criteria except for the 30 days thing, but I was sending my phone in for a screen flickering issue. I'm gonna call samsung up to see if I can intercept my package and get my phone back. I'll let you know if I'm successful.
Thanks for all your work.

I'm willing to be the guppy...I have 3 days left, what would you like me to do?

Well you have to try to enter download mode first.
If the jig doesn't work, your Note is done for. Good rule of thumb is, if you are even 1 % unsure, WAIT IT OUT.

That's what you should have done in the first place. You might be better off trying to get a warranty replacement. If the phone is bricked, they won't be able to tell if you tried to do something to it anyway. Just an idea. Hope you learned your lesson. Should have been a given.

About a half hour of reading in the first place would have saved you the 600+ dollar paperweight you just created. In a half hour, you could effectively figure out that n7000 ROMs are a big no-no for the i717, learned how to root your i717, learn how to flash CWM on your i717, and flash an i717 ROM to your i717.
Not to condone screwing over AT&T, but I would suggest you do the following, if you by chance have the monthly insurance on your phone: report it lost or stolen, pay the $200 deductible to order a new one, then take your old one which is now completely useless, and smash it with a hammer, run it over with your car, burn it, spray paint it, burn it again, smash it some more, wrap a strip of firecrackers around it and light it off, use it for target practice for the nearest firearm or paintball gun, then put it in a display case to keep in a prominent location in your home or office as a reminder of what a lack of reading can do to your device. Then, while you are waiting patiently for your new i717 to arrive in the mail, take the time to READ everything you can about your specific phone so you know every in and out of it before it is in your hands.
All joking aside, the best you can probably do is report it lost or stolen, order a new one, and then see if somebody needs it to try out JTAG repairs for the Note. I'm not sure if JTAG has been accomplished on the i717 yet, but that's probably the most use your phone will ever provide again.

No one has even asked the guy what his description of s brick is...cause everyone throes that word around like it means whenever your phone is in a state of not being able to use it
Op does your phone do ANYTHING AT ALL? bootloop, hang at splash screens, only show charging symbol when plugged in? All of those aren't bricks and are recoverable
If your phone just sits there and does absolutely nothing, nothing at all, like a corpse, then that and ONLY that is a brick.
What exactly id your phone doing?

Fine. As you should. But you should also follow the rules when doing ao. I gave my advice in this thread as did others in which the same advice (not by me) was also posted in countless other threads including ones the OP posted in. If you forgot here is a refresher for new users:

Devs- I will test/explore/brick my phone to help you

May not be in the proper section but I would hope this gives more exposure to DEVS in this section. Please move to proper section if you feel the need
All Rezound Devs-
I have a spare rezound for 5 days that in the end must be bricked prior to going back to warranty center.
I am offering to beta/experiment for you this weekend.
I can have a linux setup if need be.
Id rather let the community use me to test things rather than a dev kill their device and slow down dev progress.
If you dont brick this phone I will LOL
Please feel free to PM me and we can set up a time, via gtalk/irc etc

If you really need to brick and a dev does not come to you. Pull the battery and usb during an hboot flash or s-on while on an eng/patched hboot.
theres a pretty simple way to brick your phone.
flash a bad radio.
pull batt during radio install.

There's liquipel coating to make phones submersible, its like 70.00 to send out and have done.
On a side note on warranty replacement number 2 the search key doesn't light up much, but I can tell by looking last person who had this was in Cambridge Massachusetts, further inspection into epst shows they made 91hrs of calls on it, phone was refurbished on 4/17/2012 too lol

Intermediate note user's question...

Here is my situation : I have preordered gs3 and sold my HTC one x. I bought note for the time being and love it already. My question is that if i root it and custom Rom it, will it be easy to go back to stock sp that i can return back to best buy within 30 days?
Sole purpose that i got this phone is so that it can fill in for the time being...

Yes as long as you tell them that you returned it because you didn't like it they wont ask or care. If they ask you if you did anything to it then its on you to tell them yes or no. I bet is will be out by then and you'll be hooked. Good luck

Well these phones have a flash counter that can be reset i believe using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24145452 . Also in the development section, there is a sticky by appdroid that has stock flashes. Although i would almost hate to risk it. I think if you check out both of those threads, you may be able to make a better decision. Hope it helps, someone might be along here to better answer you sooner or later.

try using a usb jig. with it you will be able to get in to download mode . after that with odin you can take it to live

Yours is an error that people make fairly routinely. Since you are familiar with other phones, you think the same information applies to this phone, and then you don't take the time to read and verify your assumptions.
On the SGH-I777, ClockworkMod Recovery is built into the kernel, and therefore it is not recommended to use Rom Manager, or try to flash CWM separately. As you learned, that can be dangerous.
If you are unable to get any signs of life from the phone at all, then I would suggest you follow the advice above to use a USB jig first to see if that will get you into download mode.
If the phone shows any signs of life, let us know what.
EDIT: Or... if as the other thread implies, your sister's phone is SGH-I727, then ignore the above, and go look for help in the 727 forums.

My 2 cents your ****ed you flashed a firmware for a phone that you don't have on another phone and if you took time to read settings and found device type it would give you SGH-#### that's the forum you should be in just because it says GALAXY S II doesn't mean it's your device

Hold up did I say commit fraud? No I didn't I said tell them the device is NON responsive which it is I didn't say lie about anything I simply said get a warranty replacement hope they don't notice it was flashed under no circumstances did I say commit fraud
Also before it's said I'm in the military and a firm believer the omitting the truth isn't the same as lying essentially if they don't ask you don't have to tell them or volunteer it same goes with anything in life if offered a great job that didn't run a background check and didn't ask would you tell them you have a felony? No you wouldn't volunteer that information unless they asked

+1. He damaged the phone by doing something without understanding what he was doing. The phone is dead because of something he did, something that explicitly violates the warranty. Sending it in for warranty repair is committing fraud.

Read my laundry list post above and technically it was deemed during the entire apple jailbreak fiasco that they can warranty a device not the firmware and that it's your device to do with what you want they may not cancel a warranty for changing software Samsung tried it to me and ended up sending me a new device 1 month after purchase because I knew the legalities and I read my TOS agreement he does have the right to send it in and Samsung will decide if the device is unrecoverable which he would be at fault or if it's a simple repair which they will warranty under user stupidity very few of you have called or spoken to Samsung let alone sent in for repair replacement so if you don't know what your talking about your best to step out of the thread as your only adding speculation at that point
SAMSUNG has apart of their TOS that says we will supply a warranty replacement for your device at our discretion and that they may reject a warranty claim if they accept said claim its not fraud under no circumstances do I condone or recommend fraud this is simply following their TOS if they ask if you flashed firmware I'd say be honest but it's your choice if they don't ask which they rarely do then they will run down list of things with you punch it and their warranty software will make a preliminary decision

This really isn't complicated. If you mess with your phones, like we are,.it voids your warranty. Trying to get them to replace the phone when you're the one that messed it up is not cool. I mean we all know the risks here.

[VRALJB]VZW Note 2 Deodexed System

Not sure if anyone wants this or not, but here is the entire /system from the release firmware of the VZW Note 2. It's mostly useless at the moment, but I'm sure people can figure it out. If you use this for anything, I'd appreciate at least a mention in your post about it, though it's kind of hard to track just deodexed stuff. Nothing has been done to this other than deodexing and archiving. Enjoy, and if you download, I'd appreciate it if you sent a few $$ via the donate button as this is quite a large download.
Download Me
NOTE: This package cannot be flashed to your device. It is meant for people to work off of for theming and/or other development related use. If you're a standard user asking "How do I use this?", then odds are, you don't need to worry about downloading it. It will save you time, and bandwidth on both of our parts.
Thank You, donation sent!
I'd thank you but currently your thanks meter is 1337 and I don't want to be responsible for ruining that.... I'll come back later
Welp... Done ruined your Thanks meter but you earned it

Can you Odin this instead of the rooted TAR in the other thread?

It can't be flashed atm. This is for developers to build off of.
