How to change the number of Rows on the homepage - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi, On the default homepage, we have 4 Rows (+ 1 for the dock) and 4 Columns.
When we use another launcher, like ADWLauncher, we can choose 5 Rows (+ 1 for the dock). And with our big and precise screen, it's fine.
The only problem (but big for me) is that we loose the benefit of some Sony widgets, like Music, Photos, Tools,...
So is there a way to change the number of Rows in the "XPERIA" launcher?
If not, do you think it will be possible in the future (it's my 1st Sony phone and I don't know what have been done with other Sony phones in the past).

I love the launcher but five rows would be awesome. Without root we're pretty much stuck unless you use another launcher, but I dont like doing this with another launcher still chewing up resources in the background.

If you use a different launcher and set it to be the default, the original one won't take up resources. Once you reboot it won't even be loaded unless you manually run it.

Good to know, on my x10 and arc it used to run always.
Had a brain fart, even if it did run u could just kill it anyway lol

I'll open thread with my mods tomorrow. For now you can use mods with more screens and rotation posted in arc section.
Can someone post screenshots of desktop and apptray?

[Q] Installing ARC Launcher in SK17i

Greeting guys, i am currently facing a problem here.
First i tried to install from this .apk i found here:
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kypc7i8pu4ccs72
It come to no success as it said application not installed. So i find another APKs happen to found quite a lot over XDA. Just google Xperia Arc launcher on google and you will found them all.
Code:

Every APK i tried give the same result. I am not that desperate to get an arc launcher working on my SK17i. But just that i love its sleekier look. I am currently using LauncherPro instead of stocks launcher. I just hate the stock homescreen, thats why i want the arc home instead of SK17i's.
In order to get it working, i had uninstall stock's launcher, but it backed up of coz. I had also try moving the apk to system/app and set permission to 755 using root explore, but still failed.
Second, i tried installing through adb but it turns out failure.
If there anyone can help me to get it working, i would appreciate your helps. thanks in advance.
Just a curious question, why you want the LT15 launcher? Because the stock launcher of SK17 is optimized for the SK17, which benefits from the 4 corner launcher (which holds max 4 shortcuts inside). The SK17 maxes to 16+12 = 28 icons per screen!
I wonder why you hate the stock launcher, care to share what it can improve on? I had used several androids before and I like the stock of SK17 as it is.
I know the ability of the stock launcher that can hold alot more icons. But it not about that. For me, the four corners launcher block me from adding more widgets. The arc launcher can benefit me well although i know i will lack of several shortcuts. Hehe

You can't install Arc launcher because it can't be installed as an usual app. You need to place apk to /system/app (e.g. with Root Explorer), set correct permissions (just look at the permissions of the any other file in /system/app) and reboot the device. And, first of all, your phone must be rooted to do that.

On X10 mini pro, I needed to add a couple of lines to build.prop file to make Arc launcher working. Unfotunantely, I don't remember what exact lines.

You know you can just put widgets(or folders/shortcuts/whatever) where the corner icons are and the corners will disappear, right?

Thanks for this. Yeah you're right. Putting a widget over one of the 4 corners will hide the corner on that screen. Amazing!

Nova Launcher works great on Prime!

For all you all, Nova Launcher does in fact work great with the Prime tablet. Just set the home screen grid to 10 columns by 7 rows for proper sized layouts, and i would stick to the cube or none transition.
but it does work great! just so everyone knows. (not a fan of adw, personally)
i've been using it as well, and i agree it works great, super fast and much cleaner looking than adw imo.
i've been using a 10x8 layout personally.
I use Nova too. I actually hadn't gotten around to changing the layout because I like my screen bare. But I'll have to try that. So far I like it the best, pretty quick.
Dock not showing up
Am I doing something wrong? I can't figure out why the dock isn't showing up. Anyone run into this problem?
why do you say it works great?
the icon labels doesnt show in landscape mode, the card stack transition is messed up. hardly can say working great...
however i do agree it has great potential and worth keeping an eye out for.
it has some issues, but it runs very fast and doesn't have any issues that are showstopping.
I really like it! thanks for this post!

Same here!!! Is hidden because of the tablet config???
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is due to the device type... Tablets = No dock by default. This may change with future releases of the Nova launcher.

The icon labels only show up when there is enough room for them, I've got my desktop grid set to 7 Rows and 8 Columns and they show up fine. If you add anymore rows, the labels dissappear.
The only problem I have with Nova is that the wallpaper is zoomed regardless of how I crop it. Anyone else have this issue?

it has to do more with how HC/ICS handle wallpapers over the launcher, i use the multipicture lwp and it sets them properly.
ok guys... seriously.
NovaLauncher is a modified stock launcher. notice you don't have a dock on your stock launcher on your ICS tablet. well.. that's why you don't have one in NL either. tablet's don't have launchers unless you get a 3rd party launcher that forces one on a tablet, like adw. even launcher pro does it but not well.
secondly i can say that it works great because it does. don't use the card transition. the icons labels DO appear in landscape, just depends on how many ROW you are using in your grid.
why don't you do some investigating and trying things out before flaming the app. it does have great potential, but it also works great NOW!. it's better than the stock launcher, and personally i dislike ADW. so cada loco con su tema.

You won't find it on the marketplace. Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071. Just download and install the NovaLauncher_beta.apk that's all you need. It quite good. Oh one quick hint... Once you installed use Titanium Backup to convert the app into a system app, that way the widget will preview properly as your ICS stock launcher.
By the way... is in fact the best launcher for ICS so far...

Widget sizing

Is there anyway to adjust the sizes of the widgets to fit the 5X screen width? Most widgets are 4X as all other phones are only so wide.

I've been exploring go launcher as an Android noob and have really been enjoying the level of customization it provides including widget resizing. Also allows you to set the "grid" size to whatever you want. The downside I've seen is that a lot of the widgets have a lot of dead space that gets counted as complete grid space (if that makes sense) which is kind of frustrating but I've managed to get it to where I like it.

Try ADWEx paid version. Yes it cost money but I like it better than the Free GO Launcher because it is less laggy.

Disappearing homescreen widgets/Launcher redrawing

Hi all,
This is the only consistent issue I've had since day one (B1.532 - B2.257). Homescreen widgets disappear once in awhile without any warning, and frankly, I'm sick of it. They aren't disappearing completely, but they "hide" until I longpress the homescreen and they'll show up again. This typically happens when I use an app for a longer period of time.
My guess is that Android is killing the launcher and it redraws when I hit the homebutton. Not because it's trying to free up some RAM (got plenty of that), but it's trying to rid itself with an "old" process. Nova Launcher has the "Aggressive Desktop" mode where it'll it'll keep the launcher in RAM and not kill it like it does here, but I find it strange.
This is just speculation from my side though, so I'm not 100% positive that this is the case.
Question time! Are you experiencing the same problem, or is it an isolated case?
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
Hmmm.. Are you not using Greenify with an all too aggressive setting?
Never had this with my ultra :l
Note2 though had this a lot.
Tapatalked from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
So far, none like that happening here. But I don't have too many widgets on my homescreen yet, so I dunno if I put some more, if it'll happen. Will get back to you!
I don't use Greenify, and I only use two widgets: DashClock and a calendar widget.
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
Just reinstalled Nova again to check if I got the same behavior, but nope. Nova works fine, so it's the Sony launcher.
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
Yeah, I can confirm that this does happen with the stock launcher, at least on my phone. And I really only have one page, and one widget. At most I had three pages and about four widgets. The speed that the processor brings the widget back though is incredibly impressive though, so it hasn't actually bothered me yet. I didn't know other launchers kept that from happening though, hmm... May have to get on action launcher or Nova.
Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk
I have clock and 6 shortcut icons, does not redraw
Same behaviour
Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem on mine, I use 4 widgets over 3 homescreens, power amp, tune in radio pro, android pro widgets (just the calendar agenda widget) and 1Weather.
The power amp, calendar and tune in widgets never disappear, but when I go back to the launcher after it has been hidden for a while I can sometimes see a delay in them redrawing, which doesn't really bother me, but the 1Weather widget hides permanently until I long press the screen where it is hidden or reboot which is Ultra annoying, no pun intended
I'm on build .257 and have an update to the launcher installed, I've tried uninstalling the update, integrating the update into the rom, converting 1Weather to a system app and even tried locking the launcher and 1Weather into memory with an app called memory locker, all to no avail.
Has anyone had anymore thoughts on this, any ideas, anything else for us to try ?
The updated launcher fixed it for me.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
That's strange, I either didn't notice it or it didn't start doing it until about a week maybe 2 after I installed the updated launcher, it never happened on the stock . 527 launcher in my case.

To force launcher into memory and stop redraws past this into the build.prop and then reboot...

Best launcher to use for Tab S

Hey guys. Just wondering what launchers you have rocking on your Tab S.
I currently have Nova Launcher and Smart Launcher Pro. Both are very light on memory and I can zip through everything without a lag on my Tab S.
Any others?

What grid size do you all use on Nova? I always have it looking weird where I have too many icons or they are too far apart.
Go Launcher Ex is far more feature packed than Nova and has cooler animations and themes. Additionally it seems to make whites whiter which means your browser will have more contrast and you can turn brightness down. It also has an extensive list of custom widgets. In addition when holding the tablet in landscape mode the icon dock goes vertical on the right side which is very handy because you can scroll through icons with your thumb.
Go Launcher bothers me. I've tried it on other tablets. It looks nice and does lots of things but there are so many addons that I feel I'm being sucked into something (not quite sure what). I like Nova or for simplicity CM's Trebuchet.

I'm loving Lightning Launcher Extreme. It takes a bit to learn and get used to, but it's the *most* flexible and customizable launcher I've seen, and I went through about a dozen in the last year or so.
The trick to LL is to remember that it's a tree, and that all the branches are containers and all the leaves are single objects, and that all properties are inherited from the parent.
Each container is essentially a separate desktop that can have it's own size and grid, so my desktop can be a 10x16 grid, and my launcher bar can take up a 10x1 space, but internally be a 9x1 space.
Each container is individually zoomable and scrollable, unless you tell it not to be.
Containers and objects both can be unpinned from the grid and moved, rotated, skewed, and scaled with subpixel precision. This includes widget!
LL can also designate a desktop as the lock screen... so you can customize that as well.
As a topper, the Extreme edition allows scripting in JS with a few launcher specific extensions.
As mentioned, it took a bit to figure out, but my home screen is *exactly* how I want it.
Go Launcher is horrible. Are you being serious? I'm running Nova currently, but I've used, and purchased, the premium version of every launcher that's been out for longer than a year. I just get tires of the layout, or the interface, or something, so I go through all of them, shortly after I remember why I didn't like it, and I always end up back using Nova. It seems like the market has been flooded with new launchers over the last 6-12 months, too many to give them all a try so I'm trying to figure out which one to use next. On my Galaxy S5, I'm using Buzz Launcher, which is pretty cool because you can download entire homepacks, or screens, that other people have designed and all the widgets, icons, layouts, backgrounds, etc install automatically and since it supports 9 screens, I could n have a new look on my phone everyday. Unfortunately, it doesn't support landscape very well. I might go with Next Launcher next. I kind of miss the 3D effects it has. I always like to show it to friends who have an iPhone.
Any of you tried TSF launcher?

If you have tried all of the launchers and you have not like any of them then maybe it isn't go launcher that is horrible but rather your expectations of a launcher. It sounds like you have like a relatively simple and straightforward launcher with a clean interface. With that in mind I'm not sure why you keep looking.

Really? I've used Nova and Go and prefer Go quite clearly. Better screen contrast, better widgets, better animations, better themes, vertical dock in landscape. Go is constantly updated and improved whereas Nova doesn't seem to have significantly improved in years.
Please list for us the ways that Go Launcher sucks, what you prefer and specifically why it is superior.

I love TSF Shell on my S5, but for tablets, I prefer more simplicity for some reason. Therefore Apex is my daily launcher since it's customizations seem to meet my needs best. For some reason I've always had trouble with slight lag with Nova, especially with the dock.
Nova Launcher is by far the best launcher to use. So plain but customizable. You can do pretty much what you want with it. Not a fan of go launcher its bulky, and tries to force there cheesy widgets on me. Just my 2 cents.
On my S5, I use Go Launcher (for now) because I like to always change. For this tablet I still don't know what I want to use, I tried go launcher, nova, TSF but I haven't found the one yet. For now, I'm using the stock launcher for lack of a better choice .
