Ok so i have searched the forums and there seems to be loads of different answers and ways. Here is what i want for my GSM 3D
1. If possible i would like to keep the stock ROM
2. S-OFF if i even need S-OFF, all i want to do is use Fasterfix and Adfree
So whats the most up to date guide on doing this? there seems to be loads that are all different
Im not TOO MUCH of a n00b, S-OFF'd rooted etc my Desire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
As stated in multiple threads and stickies, it all depends on what hboot your phone is.
And yes, what you want to do is simple. If you don't want to flash rom's or anything, you just need root access and Superuser.
Right ill find that out!
And you sure for adfree? i had to have S-OFF for that on my desire so will i not for this too?
Thanks for the help
HBOOT 1.49.0018
Will try have a go now!
This is correct yes?

What about for S-OFF?
For S-Off, I would recommend reading up on the HTC Unlock method. It is pretty simple and you become an Online Dev for HTC in the process Wish you luck!

How do I achieve s-off? Can I revese HTC unlock method? Is there a thread or answer available? I'm not a complete noob at rooting but got excited and didn't read thoroughly before committing to the HTC process. Started sifting through threads and haven't discovered an answer yet... Please help
I've been trying to sift through them as well just out of curiosity. Here is what I have gleaned from all of the threads on this subject:
1) Unless you previously had s-off through revolutionary, the HTC method will not give you or currently allow you to get s-off
2) Although the HTC method does unlock the boot loader, other things are still locked preventing you from flashing a custom recovery.
3) Currently there is no way to root or get super user access once you've applied the HTC method
4) Currently there is no way to undo the HTC method.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but that is my understanding as it is currently. That doesn't mean that a Dev won't figure out how to allow you to do those things in the next few days or weeks. You'll just have to keep checking.
Thank you, maybe ill just "lose" my phone and get it replaced
I would wait a week or so. Someone will probably figure it out.
Try this thread. Apparently this version of CWM recovery will work with the 1.50 hboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225812
I think if you search other threads you'll see that it only works if you have previously had s-off.

Wow...fraud...people like you are why we pay so damn much for insurance/phones.
Looks like you can install recovery and Roms. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225974

There you go! That didn't take long at all. Now you don't have to "lose" your phone.
thank you
I really appreciate the info... I'll check it out tonight and let you all know how it goes. This is my absolute favorite forum bar none. By the way, I was being facetious when I made the statement about "losing" my phone... laugh every once in a while! I did when I basically noobed my own phone.
I am sure that this has been answered a million times before but I am completely lost.
Is there anyway to root a HTC Evo 3D GSM with HBOOT 1.49.0018? Preferably without losing my data
Thanks,

Hi,
the Documentation says that the hboots supported are 1.49.0007 and 1.49.0008, but not the hboot 1.49.0018 ... :-(
Greetings.
Maybe this then? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657
Never mind guys, I managed to use MyBackup with the HTCdev.com method.
Thanks for the help, however, I have another question:
Can I use the official CWM on this device (GSM)? I currently use the Revolutionary CWM as I heard that CWM has issues with the device - but I need the official one to use ROM Manager...
What kind of model you choose for an European Evo3d.
Dear fellow XDA members,
I am in need of some assistance. I just got my HTC EVO VIEW 4G and unfortunately, I accidentally upgraded to Android 3.2 HoneyComb without doing the Revolutionary S-OFF, so currently I did an HTC Dev unlock on my View but it still says "EXPRESS PVT SHIP S-ON RL" and it also updated the "HBOOT-1.14.0005." I tried checking out Revolutionary website and it does not support HBOOT-1.14.0005, so I was wondering what can I do? Do I need S-OFF for anything? I currently have Clockwork Mod installed on my View but it still has S-ON so I was scared about flashing ROMS. I am trying to flash Desensed 1.5 but is scared that I need S-OFF to do so... Can anyone chime in to help me please...
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
PS: BTW, I been searching and reading and rereading.... I just don't understand..
1) You'll need to downgrade to GB
2) you'll then need to run revolutionary for S-OFF
3) you can then re-upgrade to HC S-OFF

I don't think there is anything in the tool, that globatron hasn't already written a guide for on the Flyer. And none of them are hard to do. Anything particular you are trying to do?
ive done the OTA update, and then unlocked using HTC-DEV method becasue my HBOOT is 11.11.0011 and revolutionary didnt liost that hboot as being compatible. Ive been able to install a revolutionary Clockwork mod nad then went ahead and flashed LeeDriods ROM. But now it just starts up with the R2D2 sounds, boots a little and restarts.
Ive been reading and I think it either needs to flashed from fastboot or need to downgrade to GB and relevant hboot.
Also even though I have unlocked the bootlaoder from htc-dev it still says "s-on"?
I'm in the same boat. My flyer is
Hboot 1.11.001
OTA to HC
Unlocked the bootloader using HTC method
Load CW recovery.
Can I just follow the directions to down grade?
sorry to ask people for help again.. but there are alot of guides for unlocking/downgrading/flashing etc. could someone just point me in the right direction of one guide that is applicable to my particular case?
thank you.

I don't know why people keep coming on here and asking why they still have S-On after HTC Unlock. Its never been stated that HTC Unlock gets you S-Off, it just gives you an unlocked bootloader, which is not the same thing.
If you want real S-Off, downgrade and root using globatron's guide:
htthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307759p://
Then you can upgrade back to HC if you want using the following guide (also by globatron, becuase he's the man). You will also need to have the HC Hboot if you want to flash a HC custom ROM, which is also described in the following guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
If you want to flash a custom ROM without getting S-Off, from my understanding you can do so using fastboot. But I haven't seen any step-by-step guide. You might start reading here:

It might be just me but I don't see anything in these guides with anything to downgrade the hboot on 16gb Flyer to gain compatibility with Rev. root method. It is not for me personally but seems others here are having that issue. With those newer hboot versions is there even anything that can be done at this time?
My understanding is that when unlocked with HTC dev you can flash recovery then adb push gb hboot while in recovery then run appropriate gb ruu. Once on gb rev s off then update to hc s off

Or are there still GB Hboot versions not supported by Revolutionary?
Hi, I'm a little bit confused about the best way to root at this point. Even with the FAQ-Massive Question roundup, there appear to be a ton of different scenarios. Could someone help me find the best option for my phone?
I used to have an OG Evo, which I unlocked with unrevoked, put clockwork on there, and had a blast trying out different mods and flashing zips. That is what I want to do now with my LTE.
*I am running software version 1.13.651.1 710RD
*I want to be able to bring it back to factory settings if I need to return to the store.
What is the best option for me?
Thanks!

I am looking at installing custom ROMs on my INC 4G but am having a little difficulty finding the steps to achieve S-OFF. I am pretty sure I need to root the phone first but am pretty lost on what to do after. Should I then unlock the bootloader, or set the CID? Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a sticky in the development section titled "[Roll up] Important threads for: HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE". Not sure, but maybe there's some relevant information in there.
