I know you all are probably tired of seeing this but I didn't see this question in the first 3 pages of the prime so i decided to ask once more.
i'm really debating if i should get this one...the ipad2 the ipad3 or wait until the infinity comes out.
to me the price is the biggest concern. the ipad2 right now is selling for $360. But I believe the prime is definitely better than the ipad2 but it is $499. The new Ipad3 is also $499 for the 16gb model and has a better display. I realize that the display might not be such a big deal but it can play 1080p..can the Prime play 1080p? or just 720p? Also people are claiming that the Ipad3 gets better FPS in games due to quad core graphics. Also when the infinity comes out the price is rumored to be at $599 ..so $100 more than the current transformer. From most reviews it seems like it will be the same thing just better res so i don't know if that is worth $100 more. I will have to stay at $500 or less.
Also, people have been saying that the latest software update fixed the GPS and wifi. Can someone please confirm this? I thought this was a hardware issue with the back cover being aluminum so i'm not sure how a software update can fix this.
I've always been anti-apple so its hard for me to buy an apple product now but the price of the ipad 2 seems too good to pass up and then when i consider getting the prime i can use that $ to get the ipad3 with a better display. So i'm having a hard time talking myself out of not getting apple at the moment.
I will mostly be using the tablet to watch movies (netflix...and others so i do need codec compatibility (like .avi and such), also for work (taking notes), and for light gaming..to moderate gaming.
You can do a few things:
1) Pick up the current Prime and try it out and return it if you don't like it or experience too many issues with it
2) You can do the same thing with the new iPad and return it if you aren't satisfied.
3) Or you can wait for the Infinity and wait for reviews to trickle out and see if ASUS has addressed many of the issues that still plague some of the current Prime tablets.
From a former TFP owner, I would not suggest you to get the Prime at all. You are better of waiting for the 700 or getting the iPad. The gps and weak wifi will never be fixed. It is a design issue. Look all all the people "solving" the gps issue with aluminum foil, or beer cans, or what not.
-the Prime does not have a 1080 p display so it won't play anything back in 1080p
-the graphics are better on the iPad. The A5 already smoked the Tegra 3 in some areas and now the improved A5x is "4 times the power of Tegra 3" (maybe a stretch, you are up to verifying this yourself.) and you bet there will be more high quality games on the iPad.
-the 700 will have a higher res screen but the most important IMO is the new plastic strip on the back for wifi and gps. (which is also a proof that that messed up the TFP)
-video codec handling will be different between iOS and android (superior on android) on Android you just transfer the video to your Prime and open it with a file manager then choose the app you want to play the video with, on iOS, you have to transfer the videos to the memory of a certain app and you will be able to play the videos with that certain app.
What sort of anti Apple are you. The "I hate Apple as a company and won't buy anything from them even if it is good" or the "I hate how Apple handles their OS", etc

i'm more of a "i don't like apple because you don't get enough for the price" but that argument doesn't seem to apply at the moment. i did see the new acer iconia is coming out in april with the tegra 3. So i can wait another month and see if the transformer price goes down.
i don't know how you can say that tegra 3 is not better than the processor for ipad2 and not equivalent to the processor for ipad3. Where are you getting your comparisons?
i saw the following on zdnet. but note you get more texture and details with the tegra 3 in shadowgun..so the fps is lower..which makes sense. to compare as equals you would have to disable the textures and see what fps you get then.

I bought my prime about 2 weeks ago brand new, was hoping for the latest serial but ended with a C10. So far NO issues at all, I don't use GPS on my tablet (never even tried it), I have a phone for that.
But wifi has been fine so far, weaker than my galaxy s2, but still useable at home and at school for me.
I use mines for eBooks, comics, movies, notetaking, and some small games. Haven't had any issues, positive experience so far
Look man. Iproducts are basically for kids and people who have no idea what theese things are supposed to be capable of in my opinion. Crippled machines. They couls be great but apple wants to squeeze every cent outa your wallet. Id rather have a pandigital novel.

ShadowGun is a different story. ShadowGun is optimized for Tegra 3 and was one of their "show off" games for Tegra. That doesn't mean that they can't replicate the same details on the A5X. But benchmarks don't matter. Im sure both processors are capable of pushing out great graphics. But the problem is which OS will push out more games that use such processing power. And you bet it is going to be on iOS.

Woah. Calm down there. I use a Android phone and an iPad. Android phones are very capable but Android tabs are a different story. I think YOU don't know what your device is capable of. Im not the one running blown up SMARTPHONE apps on my TABLET. And before you tell me that apps on Android are designed to work with higher resolutions, there is a difference between blown up smart phone apps with great resolution versus tablet apps that actually take advantage of the screen estate.
Perhaps you could educate me on what you are capable of that general consumers care about but cant do on iOS.
For watching movie, I would say a Android Tablet, the Prime or other equivalant coming out, there are various topic on the general section, you can read about the tablet coming out then.

-- I think 1080p is overrated for movies. For one, when you're DL/streaming movies, it's NEVER in 1080p. If you're some how ripping off Bluerays, than yes, it may matter. But most DL movies aren't in even 1080p.
And TBH, put a 1080p and 720p TV side by side..... you will not tell the difference. I use to be an installer for Magnolia HT. And we sat there comparing the pictures with REGULAR content -- meaning video games, normal HD content from Dish/Cable -- it will not make a difference. Again 1080p only starts to make a difference if you're playing 1080p content, which in reality isn't a lot.

Not sure what you mean. GPS is supposed to work with or without 3g/4g. I don't drive so sometimes when I bus/walk to places im not sure how to get there and GPS would come in handy. Heck, my campus is so big, I need gps to go to that one building in that one corner where I have to do that one exam. GPS is handy for me in many situations but the GPS on my 3 year old phone stopped working.

i think you are right. for me i need to get an android tablet. i like having the micro sd card slot for movies and play multiple codecs. Also, I would prefer to be able to connect the tablet to a TV via a hdmi and watch it. I don't think Apple allows you to do this unless you buy apple tv which cost more $. i'll wait until a few more tegra 3 tablets come out and force the transformer price to drop. i think if the transformer prime was at $450 right now i would probably get it.
If you want a boring ass tablet, definitely get the iPad 3. If not, you might as well wait for the Infinity. Or if you can't wait, if you find a TFP from your local Bestbuy...get it and buy the "buy back guarantee" that way you can retain most of the tablet's value and trade it in once the Infinity is out.

Wouldn't that require you knew where you were going? To insure you ALREADY have the latest information w/ that city? Meaning you're going to have to DL all maps for said city that you're even trying to navigate to right?
In which case your GPS would just be supplemental considering you'd have an idea and already have a map?
If you wanted to use GPS in an unknown area, I don't believe GPS will be able to just randomly DL the area information and give you an idea where you're at, other than Lon/Lat?|
Maybe I'm not understanding how GPS works that well lol. I know it can tell you where you ARE, but you still need some type of data to give you an idea of where you want to go.

It actually depends on which Navigation app you use...there are some that don't require data usage, therefor all the maps are saved into an sd card. For example, NAVIGON doesn't require data usage.

There are many GPS applications that can preload maps of entire countries (IE CoPilot). You can then enter any address like 1234 Fake Street and it can give you turn by turn navigation there. So say I want to get to 1234 Fake street but the bus only takes me to 9513 Real Street, then I can use the GPS to help me get to my destination.

I love to watch youtube, i love to surf the net and play flash games.. I love to read books.
my main uses i got out of my ipad 1 was utube and browsing, but i can't handle lag... will this device be faster then the ipad 1? in all aspects? Is the ipad 2 really that big of a leap from the first?
edit: i used the ipad mainly for these little things, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't love other things. I have no idea what this tablet can do, i only did those simple things before because i couldn't find any other uses out of my ipad.
For you use, either one is fine. In fact, you should save some money and pickup the original Transformer and that should be enough for your usage.

In terms of Youtube, Browsing, and Flash Games, the Transformer has an advantage as you have the OPTION of Adobe Flash. Sure it slows browser speed and drains battery but at least you have the option and you can disable it to achieve "normal" speed.
For me, im getting the Transformer because I like the flexibility Android gives as well as the dock option. That way I could walk around with the Prime as a tablet with just the screen and dock it when im going to be sitting down and doing something.
You should also note that the Android Tablet market is far behind the Apple Tablet market. There are not too many apps for Android Tablets atm (which im sure will change eventually like it did for smartphone apps). You could look at your favourite IOS Apps and try to see if you can find them in the Android market.

truth be told i do like the little games, but there not a huge deal to me, every once and awhile i would go look at a top 10 and find a few games, spend an hour or so on them and be done. Games are fun, but im sure android will be enough for me.
Im concerned that with flash on the browser will be laggy? even with the quad core?
what other things have people found they like to do with there tablet?

Regarding flash, it will definitely be slower than HTML5 but it is definitely still usable. Generally flash should be kept off unless you are on a site that is not compatible with HTML5.

not sure what HTML.5 is... im pretty choked to hear that my browsing will be laggy with my flash on. I don't know nothing about nothing, but 4 cores can't handle flash? that sucks.
Why not go to best buy (or wherever) and play with the original transformer TF101? Browse to some flash websites and see how they feel.
Until any of us actually get or hands on one of these, all of these helpful comments are just based on speculation and "hearsay"

HTML5 is a number of API's and technologies that add new functionality to the modern web. Modern web consists of PHP or other server side engine that generates pages of HTML for you, HTML itself that is sent to your browser and is rendered by your browser, CSS that styles how HTML looks and JavaScript that modifies what is displayed by your browser.
HTML5 is an incremental update to most of those technologies. It consists of new HTML elements that your browser knows how to display (like video and audio without flash), it consists of CSS3 which includes new rules that describe to your browser how to display certain HTML elements (like rounded and gradient buttons that so far have been only possible with pictures only) and new JavaScript API's that allow your browser to draw Flash-like animations, store data locally in new ways or use geolocation in your device.
As a regular user you won't notice a difference in the end, HTML5 is still not an official standard but after a while it will replace all existing Flash in the web. For example, many browser-supported games already work without Flash (including Angry Birds) and sites like YouTube have an option to already work entirely without Flash and display videos through HTML5 only.
In few years time Flash won't exist in any of the major services you are using today and most users won't even notice a difference while web will be faster and more standardized in the end.
Possible uses:
- manga reading: install one of manga reader apps (I recommend Manga Watcher, tried a number of them and this one is the best) and create your manga library... it downloads them from assorted web sites and stores on your tablet
- ebook reading: best app would be MoonReader (it's free, and there is MoonReader Pro, paid version)
- comics (cbr/cbz)
- movies: Original TF plays well up to SD (640x480) and widescreen (maybe up to 800ish x 400ish, 720p is hit and miss, usually too slow. With all software updates it plays well up to 720p but not 1080p. Try RockPlayer and MoboPlayer
- Netflix
- games: there is better stuff than flash games... look for THD-labelled games. Also stuff from Gameloft. Still, I would expect iPad 2 to be better in this regard.
- as a notebook if you have a keyboard... its Office app package is usable for taking notes etc, but it's definitely not in the same class as the regular MS Office which you can have on a Windows netbook.
- Skype? Not using it myself, but it should be a decent Skype device.
No Gameloft games work on the Transformer.
Well, at least gameloft doesn't allow Transformer users to buy their game for whatever dumb reason they have.

Most common uses for me:
- handwriting for studies (also on PDF books),
- games
- reading PDF books (those that my Kindle can't handle) and comic books,
- reading news and www in general,
- youtube videos,
- e-learning (I study in a mode where half of the lessons is on the internet).
I'm an iPad 1 owner that is getting an Transformer Prime.
I bought my iPad because there were no good Android 10 inch tablets at the time. I tried upgrading to an original Transformer and Galaxy Tab 10.1, but Honeycomb really disappointed me. So I returned those and stuck with the iPad.
Flash used to be important to me. It's less important now. I still want it to play videos, because a lot of videos are still Flash only. I would not use it for Flash based web games though. Flash really kills browser performance. So it's a double edged sword. But still nice to have.
For me a big deal with an Android tablet over an iPad are things like having micro SD and HDMI ports. I can easily supplement my storage and pretty much have unlimited storage capacity by just buying more SD cards. And I can plug in my tablet easily to my TV (without the need of a big ass ugly adapter).
iPad certainly dominates when it comes to apps. But Android actually has a pretty decent selection of apps that work well. Unfortunately sometimes I find an Android version of an app to be inferior to an iPad version, such as TuneIn. But it's usually not to big an issue.
Not sure if the iPad 2 supports USB controllers. I know I can plug in a USB keyboard with it's adapter. I may end up playing 3D games on my Transformer Prime though because Android support game controllers (I'll need to buy a big ass ugly USB adapter like the iPad though).
I'm really torn on which screen ratio I like more. At first 16:10 was my obvious favorite. But after using an iPad for well over a year. I'm kinda found that 4:3 ratio has some pretty nice points as well. If I want to hold the tablet in one hand, I found it's more comfortable to do that in portrait mode. 16:10 tablets are way too narrow to read many websites in that position, while 4:3 still has more width for that.
iPad has a much smoother overall experience. Android 4.0 looks like it's improving, but they seem to still be behind trying to catch up. But on the other hand Android let me put my icons where I want, use widgets and customize my UI a lot more.
I really liked my iPad. And the iPad 2 looks great. But for me the Transformer Prime is an no brainer.

Is this really true? I hope not as I have a ton of great game loft games on my iPad that I hope will be on Android also once I get the Prime. Even of it doesn't let you download the game, can't you side load it or install the game from another android device if you put the APK on it? Why would game loft make such a dumb move. It's not like their apple only as I see some older game loft titles on other android devices. Asus prime with tegra3 would be perfect to showcase the great games they put out. I won't base decision on getting tablet based solely on video games. I don't have any home console systems anymore and haven't for a long time but my iPad 1 is now my only source for playing video games and served that purpose very well. Game loft needs to get with the program ASAP. Anyone know the reason why they won't work on Transformer? I have tegra2 Atrix phone and side loaded Order n chaos up there and it played perfectly. This was even before they officially real eased it to be compatible. Thanks to this great XDA forum . So if it could play perfectly on my Atrix phone, I'm sure the original transformer or the new prime shouldn't have any trouble pushing it.
As far as other uses for tablets, it's what you make the most of it. I do all these things other posters stated and more on my ipad1. Trust me, a lot more can be done with these Android and apple tablets than most people believe. It's not all about playing games and watching movies or you tube..lol. These are and can be great productivity devices and make things a lot easier and more efficient. Since I got my iPad almost 2 years ago or whatever, I've never used a regular computer since. Whether it be a desktop or laptop. Never had the need to. Everything I can do so much faster with my iPad. As I have it jail broken and modded out like crazy to allow me to do most things a regular pc can do. Everyones needs will be different. I'm still amazed with this tablet just like the first day I got it. Can't wait to get my hands on the Prime and fall in love all over again.

iPad has a much smoother overall experience. Android 4.0 looks like it's improving, but they seem to still be behind trying to catch up. But on the other hand Android let me put my icons where I want, use widgets and customize my UI a lot more.
I really liked my iPad. And the iPad 2 looks great. But for me the Transformer Prime is an no brainer.

Great points as I'm an ipad1 owner also. I use it for everything. Feel the same way as ipad1 and 2 is great BUT Transformer Prime will be my next device. As it seems more future proof. Plus you won't necessarily need adapter for game controller for Android, it's been stated and seen the bluettooth wireless gamepads are supported now on Android. Lots of reviews where people using new transformer prime with logitech wireless controller. Asus also states it will work with Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and most other wireless models also. So wireless controller gaming on original and transformer prime already been confirmed.

At first when they mentioned wireless game controller support, I assumed I could use my Xbox 360 controller without having to plug in the receiver. But then I noticed in some reviews the guys had to plug in the wireless USB receiver with their Logitech controller ASUS gave them. So now I'm assuming the Xbox controller will be the same, need to plug in the wireless receiver to work. Which kinda makes "wireles support of game controllers" kinda silly marketing bull if true.
To me the worst part about the iPad is the screen, or more specifically, the screen resolution. I bought the original iPad when it came out, and the reading experience was just crappy - the fonts were just fuzzy and it tired my eyes too fast.

I noticed that also. I guess it depends on the type or wireless controller it is. Of it relies on just bluetooth, then I don't think you will need a receiver plugged into USB port. Some videos show no piece hooked up and the wireless controller working fine. I guess through Bluetooth.
As an owner of both an iPad 2, and 2 Android tablets, If you want Youtube, and flash games, android is the only way to go.
The Android Youtube app is much less restrictive. Most VEVO content, and music videos can be played, whereas most music videos are blocked on the iPad app.
Flash isn't even available on the iPad, but it kinda makes up for it since there are many more games on Apple's AppStore, but as much as I love paying money for games, free flash based games are better.

I'm web developer for many years and if Flash is properly optimized it will take less power-processor usage then HTML5, also when people say HTML5 have in mind HTML5 on its own can't do much, it must work with CSS2/3 and JavaScript to be able to do some proper "stuff".
Flash will rock on games and video especially HD and that will be the future, HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript will take more websites. But Flash and Flex will remain as superb choice for creating advanced RIA's or Apps for Tablets and Smartphones.
Flash and Flex has unique very advanced GUI that no other solution on this planet can compete with and when they would be able to, Flash technology will have even more features than what they have.
So entertainment Flash is #1 choice for a long long time to come. Just keep yourself updated with latest versions and you'll be all good.
I like HTML5/CSS3/JS but you gotta make ton of manual coding, where in Flash you can simply do drag&drops and do this far more easily then in any other technology. Not to mention components for developers, it's just too easy comparing to anything else.

I think there are 10's of threads you could have added your opinion to. But, that said, I think if you're hoping for ICS to magically make the Prime a better option for you, you're going to be disappointed. And I'd not hold out for a "3g add on module"--the 3G version of the Prime will be a completely new, redesigned device.
Sounds like you should return your Prime and wait for something that better meets your needs. And just for the record, I only have one app that routinely crashes on my Prime, and it's problematic on other Honeycomb tablets as well. Otherwise, I've found the Prime to be remarkably stable.

ASUS seriously should have waited for ICS until they sold the Prime. The above post is the perfect example of what happens if you rush a generally super nice device with totally crappy software on it...

I'm still hoping that Asus will come up with a plastic window solution like the Ipad for its gps problem, they can easily retool the case and fab the plastic insert.
As far as apps go, its not Prime fault. those apps need updating from developers that made them. Google earth works perfectly now as it was just updated the other day. as far as that movie studio goes, I had the same thing happen. I don't like it really. So you can't fault the device from a software standpoint. because that always can be improved. Plus you can expect alot of apps not to be working in ICS because not all apps updated yet to support it. The apps are getting there but alot still out there that needs ICS support.
The GPS issue I can understand. You can bet though that 3g version will be at a minimum $100 more plus you will be tied into a massive data plan which requires a premium extra fee because its a tablet. Prime is still a Good choice. even without GPS working.
I've had my for three days now. I'm deciding if I'm going to return mine or not.
Pros:
Screen and brightness is second to none. Super IPS actually hurts my eyes. Marvelous.
Wifi works fine for me. Mostly like my OG ipad
Camera quality is great. Video and pictures great.
Games like Riptide and Madden play super.
Flash websites like HBO go.com work great compare to OG Transformer that I owned.
I like the when you correct a word it zooms in on the area without a circle.
Kind of fun to hold. So very thin.
Having 64gb thanks to my SD card
With volume+ app. Speakers very nice.
Charges fast
Battery life continues to get better
No screen lag for me when transitioning.
ICS coming soon.
Cons:
GPS is brutally awful. Not sure if its a deal breaker.
Bluetooth and wifi don't work together like they should.
Lack of accessories.
Do I feel this is better than the first TF (owned for 6 months)? Yes.
Is it better than the current tablets now out (including I pad 2 wifi to wifi)? Yes.
Will this be the Blackberry Playbook of 2012 (considering major flaws for some)? Decisions. The last thing I want to see in a couple months is TF Prime for 299.00 at BB.
This thing is going for a premium on EBay right now as well.

But can I ask you what your personal use for GPS is in your particular case? I had a Samsung GT10.1 for 8 months and I used the gps maybe three times. And even then it was locked onto a signal fairly quickly because the used the auto assist wifi signal, and I cannot fathom a usage instance that requires gps without wifi.

It's the current battle of selling points with iCS, gps and 3/4g being the main contenders. Any new tablet that does not feature these will suffer from lackluster sales, imo.

I bought this as a work device/toy. At the moment I don't know what I want to use GPS for but I just want my tablet to do what it says it should do on the tin. I don't like Apple but they seem to have set the bar really high and the iPad pretty much does what it says it will do.
I understand what you are saying and it may turn out that I never need it but I paid for it and would at least like the choice to not use it rather than not use it because of an Asus major design flaw.
To add to the list of cons it reboots every morning whether it has been charged or not.
Why wasn't this added to the rest of the gripe threads? Nothing stated here that hadn't already been a rebeating of the dust that used to be the skeleton of the dead horse.
I think we all get it. People always strive to get somethng, then when they get it, they want more.. some more than others.

Course charting in a boat using Navionics software for one. Saved me thousands on a marine gps unit and I'm using a very old Ipad for it now.
I don't expect everyone would do this, but Come'on these statements like, "I never used gps so I don't know why anyone else would", just expose your lack of imagination.
my 2 cents:
Of the 3 tablets I now own...the tf101, ipad 1, and the prime...the prime easily wins the day. Its the best tablet I have ever used.
There are a few niggles.
1. The tf101 has the best wifi of the three. The prime and the ipad 1 score exactly the same in my testing for wifi performance....which is good enough for me. Not sure why people are griping about wifi so much while mine is par or better than the ipad 1...at 50+ feet and 4 walls from my router I still get 3-4 Mbps. Netflix, etc streams beautifully from the farthest corners in my house.
I don't often bother with bluetooth on my android tablets so I have yet to test this.
2. I rarely use my tablets for GPS so this is not a deal breaker for me. I have an offline GPS system anyway that does not require live data connection which I prefer on the road. I have yet to test the prime GPS...right now GMAPS snaps up my location using IP address I imagine.
After that this tablet plays high profile 1080p mkv files both from my network and from the sdcard without a hitch, has a GORGEOUS display, slim, light, has great battery life and runs honeycomb better than any tablet out there (I've fiddled with just about all of them). ICS will be the icing on the cake.
Sometimes these forums can turn us into quibblers. I never would have noticed the issues raised here on my typical usage of the prime or any of my tablets. For example, I never knew the TF101 has such great wifi performance compared to the Ipad 1 until I tested it because of this forum. The ipad always seemed just fine to me and so does the prime....and really thats all that matters.

In all likelihood it sounds as if the assisted GPS will serve your purposes just fine then. I really do not understand why anyone thought this tablet was going to be a Garmin. I also thought (and suppose I am or could be worng), that this was always advertised as aGPS. GPS does work when it is assisted by wifi, and it works pretty well when it's not. I wouldn't rely on it to drive, but I don't know why anyone would rely on anything other than a dedicated GPS to navigate - I certainly never take off on my bicycle to place unknown with just my phone, I always have my Garmin. If someone needs to navigate then they need to buy a dangerous Garmin and not think they "Got lucky" and scored a $500 tablet that allows included a real GPS that costs at least $100+ app on it's own.
Anyway.....the rebooting thing sounds like a real pain.. Mine has never reboot randomly. You say it happens in the morning, and I wonder what the culprit could Be? Are you powering it up and then it reboots or waking it Up? I wonder if it's an app.

It reboots after waking up. I have no plans to give up on the TFP at the moment and I' will persist to iron out as much as I can. I will post any findings.

I am going to use marine apps as well. Do you guys think if you have a GPS lock the Prime will keep it because the speed of a sailboat is not too fast?
Accuracy doesn`t really matter.
My phone with google navigation is perfect as a GPS, I don't need something four times bigger that won't ever fit anywhere on my car and won't charge on the car adaptator.
aGPS is more than enough for me.

Maybe you will have better luck than me. But, my Prime couldn't keep a lock, motionless, in the same orientation and location. The GPS just seemed to lose everything and started searching again, for no reason. That was a deal killer for me. If Asus had offered to fix this one problem, it would have been a real keeper! Instead the way they handled it just made me lose all confidence in their ability to support a quality product.
Be prepared to hear that you shouldn't expect GPS to work but that's no problem, and why would you want to use it on a tablet anyway? It would appear that most happy Prime users don't get out much or realize that an automobile is not the only use for GPS!

By the time I got round to editing and exporting a movie I had already installed all my fav appz. I'll start first with removing the MXvideo player
Hi guys, before now I was a galaxy tab 8.9 user and even though I was disappointed with the performance of honeycomb on that tablet (mainly due to samsungs touchwiz and Nvidia tegra 2 hardware limitations) I still enjoyed the tablet especially since running an alpha build of ICS on it. I decided to sell my tab when the transformer prime was released for obvious reasons. (Its an overall much better tablet) and within my price point.
However I have had cause to hold back because of all the negative press the tab as been getting. I am not really concerned about the gps issues because I never for one day used the gps on my galaxy tab 8.9. I have a galaxy s2 which satisfies my gps needs.
What I am most concerned however is the wifi issues reported by users and also the Is the Is flickering issues some are having since upgrading to ics.
How bad and wide spreed as this problems? do you think the prime is still worth buying or are the wifi and Is the screen flickering issues minor issues which can be fixed via software update?
I would really appreciate recommendations from users before I make my decisions thanks
Dude just go for it, buy it, try it out.
I was concerned too when I ordered, but I lucked out with a good prime. The tablet is awesome and the quick updates from asus are constantly improving the experience.
Worst case you don't like it, just return it and get your money back.

Its still a fantastic tablet. Im fortunate to be in the UK and have the dock which truly makes it a worthy purchase. If I'm honest I wouldn't have bought it without the keyboard.
I can see the GPS issue is an annoyance but I would never consider using the device as a Navigation aid. The fact that you need wifi for the maps to work I never expected to use it in such a way. Lets face it the iPad doesn't have GPS and the apple fans aren't up in arms that they can't navigate from their device.
With the dock this is the closest thing to a netbook and love the fact that in essence I have an Android based netbook.
My advice don't expect too much, its an excellent tablet and even with its faults I love mine.
You will definitely need to try this for yourself to see if it works the way you use it.
Just order online, then you can return it within 2 weeks, that should be enough for testing.
I had many of the same concerns but I went for it in hopes of getting a good unit and i did. I'm extremely happy with it and it gets more use than any laptop or desktop in my house.

I second that. Only hassle I have is GPS and that is no dealbreaker for me on a WiFi-only device.
Make sure you get either Build 8.33 (Honeycomb) or 9.4.2.27 (Icecream Sandwitch) on your Prime, especially the 8.33 sped most things up with HC.

How can you find out what Firmware a Prime has prior to buying? Will the Retailers tell you?

I don't have wifi or screen issues. I half-heartedly tried to get GPS going but really have no patience or the inclination to do so! GPS is not what I bought the device for...and I bought the TFP knowing full well of the GPS issues. If I can't see any satellites...oh well. Am I a "dumb" consumer for buying a product that doesn't have all marketed specs working...I don't know...maybe. But spending $500 on the TFP without GPS was well worth it to me. I've bought PCs in the past where I knew the video card was crap....I simply swapped it out for something that met my needs.
If you're worried about encountering the noted issues (not including GPS which sounds like it will never work 100%), buy from somewhere with a good return policy. Try it out for a couple of weeks. That is what I'm doing and so far mine is a keeper. Actually, I bought two from two different stores...the second is still en route. I did this just in case one of them had problems...the second one is probably going back without ever being opened.

Get it... The problems are very much exaggerated in my opinion. Really who is going to put the tablet on their dashboard and use it for GPS ...
I have it, it's fast, It's stable, it's running ICS, almost no issues, wifi runs great, it's just a beast of a tablet. I suggest it for anyone.

Beyond slower wake up for the Wi-Fi and some other quirky wi-fi issues (won't work with my Verizon MiFi currently), I've had no issues with it. Still waiting on my keyboard dock, however.
i was a little upset when i first got it.. the wifi signal was pretty week when i used it in my bedroom (furthest point from my router, up stairs and on the other end of the house) infact it was loosing connection. However after some updates it does seem better. i no longer get a dropped connections get about 1 bar of signal. it works really well everywhere else in my place plus i can tether my thunderbolt to it if need be. i was at first going to return but i am leaning more towards keeping it now.
i hope they release another update that focuses mainly on wifi strength.. is that even a possibility? still testing but overall id say im pretty pleased.

Seems to depend on what you want from your tablet. If you want navigation device that will help navigate a cruise missile to its target, then maybe you should got with a Galaxy Tab LTE.
Now, if you want a slick/fast tablet running Google's latest and greatest OS, there is no comparison. This thing is hands down the best Android tablet on the market.
I just got mine in the mail yesterday and I'm really liking it. I think at this point you're less likely to get a dud.

Guess, I will be the one contrary opinion.
The hardware is very nice. It is even sleeker than the iPad which is really saying something.
The Android fragmentation is still a major issue which unfortunately means, if you honestly look at the user experience, no android tablet is worth buying unless you are a hardcore Apple hating tech geek, or unless you must have a 7 inch tablet.
I have tried 5 different Android tablets the last month and am really surprised what a disastrous mess the Android ecosystem is. You would think that any tablet with the same processor and version of android could run the same software straight off the market. NOPE. I mean seriously, WTF?
Google needs to clamp down in some way to end this stupidity. I have a bunch of recent action titles that run on an Acer Inconia A500 but wont run on other Tegra 2 tablets under the same version of Android, and forget the prime.
While much is made off how the prime is the best Android gaming yet, Google for graphics benchmarks of the iPad 2 vs the prime. The iPad 2 is more than twice as fast in most graphics benchmarks. Not only is there a vastly larger selection of games, they all work. When a new OS update is released everyone gets it, no waiting and wondering if you will ever get it.

I will be keeping my lowly 8GB Acer Iconia A100 because I love the compact 7 inch size and comfortable to hold round edges. The sharp edges of the iPad 2 makes it uncomfortable to hold for long, and this is one thing the prime should not have copied from the iPad, the prime is even worse.
I changed the build.prop file on my A100 to make it think it is an A500. It is compatible with far more hardcore action games than my prime. How is that for irony?

Unless Google muscles in to clean up the fragmentation mess, if Apple pulls a mea culpa and actually releases a 7 inch iPad, Android will continue to be the poor cousin of iOS that people only buy because it is cheaper or because they are fanatic extremeists who want to strap on an explosive laden jacket and run into an Apple store shouting "Android Akbar!!!!"

I will give the prime this one HUGE compliment. It is the first tablet that seems to equal the elegant design and build quality of the iPad. In fact I think the prime is better looking. I have never seen a PC laptop that was even close to a MacBook pro or the latest MacBook air in terms of quality, and I have owned HP Envy, Alienware, and other expensive laptops. Higher price to performance sure, but never close to the same build quality and display quality. At least with tablets non-Apple manufacturers are FINALLY waking up to high quality IPS displays. That's a great thing.
And I definitely prefer the 16:10 ratio screen of the prime to the iPad's 4:3 especially for video. Won't hold the reported wifi issue against it, as my prime has no wifi nor GPS issues, then again neither did my iPad 1, which had the same wifi complaints from many people as the prime seems to.

As to customization, you would think the alleged "open" Android system is more so but no. Especially since the iPad 2 is now jailbroken. There are far far far more options out there for a customizing a jailbroken iPad, and if you consider the amount of software, and especially accessories, even a non-rooted iPad has far more options for customization. But even that I don't hold against the prime cause really no one needs that amount of customization. The problem with the prime and Android tablets in general keeps coming back to the atrocious inexcusable app incompatibility even among essentially identical hardware. Seriously. WTF?

I will give the prime this one HUGE compliment. It is the first tablet that seems to equal the elegant design and build quality of the iPad. In fact I think the prime is better looking. I have never seen a PC laptop that was even close to a MacBook pro or the latest MacBook air in terms of quality, and I have owned HP Envy, Alienware, and other expensive laptops. Higher price to performance sure, but never close to the same build quality and display quality. At least with tablets non-Apple manufacturers are FINALLY waking up to high quality IPS displays. That's a great thing.
And I definitely prefer the 16:10 ratio screen of the prime to the iPad's 4:3 especially for video. Won't hold the reported wifi issue against it, as my prime has no wifi nor GPS issues, then again neither did my iPad 1, which had the same wifi complaints from many people as the prime seems to.

Sorry, but I call b.s. on Ipad customizations. AS I have one jailbroken and modded to the extreme. You have to jailbrake Ipad to only be able to do half the things android does right out the box. THE IPAD ZCUSTOMIZATIONS FROM CYDIA N SUCH are crap. All stuff still looks basically the same. You can change wallpapers, some icons...system sounds, lockscreen n that's about it. THE MOST EXTREME Ipad mod was getting a sort of launcher called Honeypad. Its more of a hybrid android OS of honeycomb. I can launch it and you would think my Ipad was an android tablet. REALLY MADE Ipad feel like a new device. I could apply Widgets n stuff. But with ipad1 or 2 having limited Ram, you run out quick. That's when I knew I wanted an android tablet. Yes apple has superior games, which I have all the best ones like Infinity Blade2, etc... Android allows wauly more freedom out the box n you can do more. USB adapter support on either Ipad is a joke. Apple nerfed it.
WHEN IPAD1 first came out, you use to be able to hook thumb drives, external keyboards, mouse, even external harddrive. VERY shortly after apple released people were doing this and didn't like it. APPLE ONLY WANT YOU using thEIR ACCESORIES. SO on an update apple reduced the voltage output to USB adapter therefore making it useless except for only apple accessories basically. This caused a huge uproar on ipadforums.
Ipad1, as much as I love mines, has nothing on the prime. NEITHER does ipad2. PRIME is way better than both. People believe in that Ipad vs. Prime gpu benchmark b.s. too much..lmfao point blank prime is way more powerful. It was even said although ipad2 might score higher on gpu benchmark, prime/tegra3 in real life will perform and look better. AS its fact that tegra3 CPU is a hell of alot more powerful than ipad2 CPU.
Op get the Prime. If you want old outdated devices, get an ipad2 or any other Android device. There won't be anything coming out to be more powerful till around may-june at the earliest. As of right now, Prime is the most powerful tablet in the world!
I have been up in the air myself with all these negative reports. I plan on picking one up this week locally and reporting of any issues.
From an outside view on these forums and others. It looks really bad for the prime having so many issues. I am willing to take the risk and spend the money in hope for getting a great unit. Anything less than amazing, i will return it and venture elsewhere. Apple makes great products. Just not for me.
Aside from the Wifi, I don't care much about GPS myself, this thing is ridiculous awesome. It has serious power decodes 1080p mkvs no problem, with ICS the stock video player does it even I love the tablet, the design is great, the performance is killer... The Wifi issues do suck though, I can;t wait till this actually gets resolved

Here is my short story why I have sold my Asus Prime. Some of you can lough at me because few days ago I was laughing at Ipad3. But I asked myself few questions... and changed my point of view totally.
Generally my first tablet was Asus Transformer. I liked it very much. Unfortunately in the first week after I got it I had to send it to RMA. I had dust under screen. I was mad...
After 4 weeks I get it back. After few next days I discover that it creaks - another reason to be mad for Asus.
But I kept it using. Meanwhile I bought Ipad2 just to test it. The first thing I noticed was that every game/app was designed to work on Ipad properly. Nice
graphics, fast and so on. I could not say that about Android and Asus Transformer. There were (there still are) so few apps/games that works in 1280x800 resolution.
Despite all those games and apps on Ipad2 few things forced me to sell it after 2 months of using:
- low resolution of ipad - this was the most annoying thing
- no flash (minor thing)
- no sdcard slot (then It was important for me - now it is not - why ? because I really do not use this... )
It was December 2011. I decided to wait for new Asus Prime. Tegra 3 I thought - man. That is going to be awesome.
In the late end of December I bought Asus Prime. First impressions - WOW!
And then:
- still only few apps/games for tablets
- my unit is creaking - AGAIN! (aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!)
- HDMI broke after 3 weeks! (aaaaarrrgggghhh!!!!)
- battery is drained after 5-6 hours of using (only browsing WWW)
So now when I see that Ipad3 has great Retina display am changing my way of thinking.
I have enough of Asus lies. Yes. I feel cheated by Asus. The battery was supposed to stand for 9 hours. I get 5 and sometimes 6. The same as it was in first transformer (my Ipad2 had 9-10).
I have enough of VERY poor quality of Asus products for 600$!
I have enough of laggy ICS - yes it is laggy as hell - especially when browsing
I have enough of 1280x800 resolution. It got to old...
Am not going to wait another few years for apps/games that are mainly designed for Tablets. I can imagine how long will it take to see apps for Asus Prime Infinity (1080P screen)...
Yes - am aware of this that Ipad3 does not support flash. But it not a big problem. Only 1 site I visit uses this technology. Yes - there is no sdslot in Ipad. But do I really need this? No I do not.
I asked myself a question. What is the most important for me in tablet:
- the highest resolution it can be - for now it is Retina
- I want to have A LOT of games/apps - for now iOS is the only option
- I want fast and smooth system - again iOS is the best. ICS is much more better than Honeycomb but it has no chance with iOS
- I want my tablet not to creak!!!
Am not using only theory. I had Ipad2. I know how it works. I know it has some limitations. But I want a tablet that has plenty of apps on it. I want tablet with super resolution. And I want a high quality products. Not Asus **** that creaks...
I will never ever buy anything that is made by Asus.
Of course I respect Android. This is VERY good system. Full freedom. But one thing kills this system. It is poor quality games/apps. They are fine for Phones with small screens. But how many of them works in full 1280x800 ? Few....

I'm not deflecting to Ipad but I do respect your viewpoint. my batteryvlasts 9-10hrs. and tablet doesn't creak. plus I have tons of great apps n games. in my Neo Geo emulator alone I have 34 games.
but I'm not posting to convince you otherwise of your experience. all I can say is good luck with it. make sure when you get one to check out ipadforums.net for all latest n greatest info on it. jailbreaking info and guides in there also.

Not I. I personally can't stand IOS and the resolution of the prime is more than fine for me. I have a 1080p TV for most of my movie watching, and mkv movies look perfect I think on the tab when I need it (IE Airplane). Prime is the best tablet I've ever used.

Well believe me. Am not happy about this. But I just feel bad with Prime. You know it is very expensive product and still I see no diffidence between TF101 and TF201. I like it but I have to sell it. It is so called toxic love - hahaha.

Hmm maybe because that is why the forums are for? Imagine 20% of people reading this thread wants to or already have exchanged their primes for ipads.

Deliberate downgrade of the camera to 5mp even though Apple use millions of 8mp versions for their iphones.
Pushing Face Time as a main feature then only using a VGA front facing camera.
No ability to upload to browser ie, adding photos to image hosts.
No ability to transfer files through Bluetooth.
No ability to connect to HDMI source without purchasing expensive peripherals.
No ability to plug in USB drive to transfer files.
No ability to plug in an SD or micro SD to increase storage capacity.
No access to the file system to access, move or delete files.
No ability to customise the homescreens with widgets or launchers.
No ability to use different icons without jailbreaking.
No Flash videos on websites.
Etc etc.
If Android ran their tablets with those issues, the OS would be slammed throughout the tech world. For some reason Apple reviewers don't mention any of these major shortfallings.

It's a known issue that if a reviewer posts anything apple does not like, they do not get review samples next time.
The truth is some people should use iOS. The OP is seemingly one of them. However I have to wonder about the lust for a high rez screen on a 10" device.. I wonder if he knows none of the software supports it yet.
The fact of the mater is right now a random person who buys a tablet is probably 75% of the time an iPad buyer.
However with so many people with android on phones, in time more will choose the same OS for a tablet.

But I also don't understand why you felt the need to post this thread. I am sorry you weren't happy with the Transformer Prime, but I don't know why you feel the need to justify your purchase of an iPad to anyone. It isn't helpful to people who read these forums looking for info on their Primes and I seriously doubt that the majority of people really care about what tablet that you find is right for you.
If you look at your poll now, you can see that the 20% of people who switched to an iPad is now a much smaller percentage. Why? Because this is an Asus Transformer Prime forum, not an iPad forum.
The funny thing that strikes me when someone is unimpressed with a product to the point of selling it for something else, i.e.: it's competitor, is that implied notion that the competitor's product is inherently better.
--The Prime may not have a display of the "New" iPad, but it is in it's own regard, awesome.
--I, like others have stated, consistently get 8.5 to 10 hours of use. Obviously, battery life depends on what you're doing...
Also, people seem to think that because it's an iPad that it just works...

Disclaimer: As I was reading over my post, I felt that I was really critical against Android/TFP users. But the only reason I am writing this whole comparison is because I want you guys to have the best experience. I didn't sit here and type this whole thing up trying to bash you guys or show off or anything. End/
So I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for doing this cause of all the Android fanboy vs iOS fanboy debates. But guess what, I have used Android and have been on XDA for years now and I now have an iPad, no hard feelings. Don't be fanboys of companies, be fanboys of good products.
Anyways, I'm gonna compare the TFP and the iPad 3 since I have owned both. PS, this is gonna be pro iPad so cover your eyes if you can't take my opinion.
These arguments are mostly gonna be Android vs iOS but since the TFP is the best Android tablet IMO and the iPad 3 is the best iOS, I will use them for reference.
App Availability
This is the biggest and most important difference. I still use an android phone because the apps on it are still ok. Not as good and polished as iOS apps but still manageable. However, tablets are a whole different story. Maybe just me telling you won't do any good. Just download iTunes and see for yourself. The number of tablet apps on iOS is amazing. They aren't blown up apps like the Android "tablet" apps. They really make good use of the bigger screen. I think that there are probably more retina ready apps (retina iPad came out 4 days ago) than there are tablet apps in android.
The problem is and will continue to be the fragmentation on Android. I suggest you to read about MikaMobile, creators of Battleheart, ZombieVille, etc halting android support. Basically, they said that it takes them way too much time and money to support Android due to all the different OS versions, screen sizes, hardware, etc. And until this is fixed, iOS will continue to get all the good apps which would in turn attract more customers, and this greater app support and the cycle repeats.
Smoothness
The iPad is really smooth as butter. While the TFP boasts all the hardware, I always had little lags here and there (scrolling in browser, reading large PDFs, moving between apps, etc). Again, there is no point in me telling you. Go to a store and try out the iPad. Almost never had any lag or stutters.
Sad to say but Android tablets aren't even close to what iOS tablets have to offer. I really cant see any reason why you would want an Android tablet over the iPad.
Reasons You Want Android Over iOS
1) Customization. Probably the most common argument Android users use.
-Widgets: Sure I miss them a bit but I will take good apps over widgets any day. Perhaps you spend too much time on your home screen staring at all your widgets and custom icons because you don't have any good apps.
-Custom roms/Tweaks: Can't really talk about custom roms since I have not tried any on the TFP. But I doubt it would be any faster than iOS. If you jailbreak your iPad, the customization isn't that bad, I would say better than Android actually. There are a lot of useful tweaks in Cydia that Android doesn't offer. IE, pull down in Safari to refresh page, Moving multiple icons at a time, No gravity on home screen, etc. I'm sure a rooted/unlocked Android could have those tweaks too but too bad there arent enough Android tablet users/devs.
2) Multitasking
This is actually one of the only advantages of Android. Android offers true multitasking while the iPad has pretty poor multitasking. Not much to say about that.
3) Price
This is the TFP forum so they should be about the same price. But i guess if you are getting something like the Kindle then the price is a deciding factor.
4) Keyboard + Ports
Yes, the killer feature of the Prime. Another one of the only reasons you would get TFP. However, you can check out Clamcase for iPads and it is actually better than the TFP dock in many ways minus the ports. If USB and sd ports are really that important and you dont want to use the ipad dongles then I guess this is another deciding factor.
5) Drag n Drop over iTunes

I will be happy to respond to the typical "walled garden", "no customization", "no flash", "crappy hardware", "Android/Apple fanboy" comments.

After playing the new Mass Effect, Sky Gamblers, Updated Real Racing 2 & Updated Infinity Blade 2....I can honestly say that my new iPad smokes the Prime and Infinity Pad. The graphics are amazing!!!!

It's not they aren't making money on Google market/play, nor is it porting or various hardware problem in later interview with the dev.
Returning briefly to what took up the majority of that 20% of their time dedicated to Android development, it was not related to fragmentation as some have asserted. The two activities that required the most time were the initial porting process (not shocking) and simple customer service (download and payment problems). The latter seemed to be a particular thorn in their side and of course is made all the more exasperating by the fact that those are in fact areas in Google’s control and not really something a developer should be dealing with at all. It’s hardly the first time I’ve heard that complaint from a developer and it is a subject worthy of discussion on its own at some point.

I've had an Ipad over 2yrs. jailbroken. so I know cydia and the other places very well. while cydia does have some cool tweaks to make Ipad more useful, its chump change compared to Android mods n tweaks after rooting.
Ipad has:
-no Overclocking
-no custom roms
-no memory tweaks
-no Widgets
-no undervolting for even better battery life with overclocking
-no Linux or Ubuntu can be loaded on it
-no way to make backup of the whole system on device itself
-no real customization or personalization lmfao device. all Ipad can do is change wallpaper. then if you jailbreak you can use the crappy icons or themes in there. even with those it still looks the same.
-no downloading file in stock browser, Safari
-no uploading files in stock safari
-no access to flash content. skyfire on Ipad blows. puffin browser decent bit slow as a mofo. I know, I have these apps. and Crash is a joke
-no great custom keyboards like android has.
- all apple keyboards blows. clamshell one is NOT better than transformer dock. how can you even claim that when it doesn't even have a built in battery. no USB ports. no full size SD card slot...apple peripherals blows hard. its no contest Prime has the superior keyboard. alot more functionality than apple keyboards can even dream of.
-no USB host capabilities on Ipad itself or dock. Prime can use mouse, a separate keyboard, external hard drives, etc... even apple adapter sux. all it allows you to do is access pictures. it doesn't even accept most forms of thumb drives because apple crippled the voltage output. therefore it won't even recognize devices if its not apple made. you can't even hook your phone up to Ipad and transfer files through USB adapter. it doesn't even recognize phone because it says it draws too much power.
-no ability to download attachments in native email app. you can't even create a new email, within email app, and add files or pictures to it. have to be jailbroken to partially do this. android does this out the box.
- crippled stock media player. apple only allows you to play mp4 out the box. you have to get other apps to play other formats. android/Prime plays most formats out the box.
-no real multitasking. On my prime I can use overskreen browser and surf the web while another app is opened. or like stick it media player. I can be surfing the web and watch movie at the same time with no issues. plus I float those apps anywhere on the screen I want.
-no native out the box file explorer. you have to jailbrake and get ifiles. android does this out the box.
-no optimized aspect ratio for watching movies. 4:3 aspect ratio is ratio of old a$$ television sets. you try to watch a movie and go fullscreen, it cuts off the image very badly and zooms up movie image and not as sharp and clear anymore. prime has perfect movie theatre aspect ratio. Far superior for watching movies and videos.
-safari browser not able to change user agent. most of the time it loads up mobile version of sites.
-no way to enjoy using device outdoors in the sun. its display isn't bright at all. even on highest brightness setting its hard to view outdoors. prime has no issue at all having ips+ technology. easily viewed outdoors on the brightest days.
-no developer support
-app non tablet apps look horrible resized. android does a way better job at resizing and still keeping clarity n detail of app.
-Ipad apps cost more than android version. I already compared since I have both units and over 150-200 apps on both devices.
-video conferencing far superior on Android. Android Skype, tango, fring, o'clock are better versions and perform better than IOS counterparts. I have all this apps on both devices. although my ipad1 doesn't have a cam, I'm still able to use the video chat and see the other person. I'm more so comparing quality of the video stream coming in. facetime blows because only enables chat to other IOS devices.
-NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT FOR GAMES. this is huge since Ipad tries to focus on gaming. this is what happens in locked down OS where they don't give you USB or BT host capabilities.
-Ipad apps actually crash quite frequently. instead of saying FC or would you like to close, it just crashes back to homescreen.
-new Ipad no longer has the thin and light form factor like the price. its just as thick and as heavy as the first Ipad. major step backwards for apple. especially how ipad2 was advertised by apple so much for being thin and light.
-not able to create apps and developement on the device itself. Android now has this ability and apps to develop for other android devices on the tablet itself.
-not able to go to most movie and videos sites and watch. doesn't support flash.
-Ipad YouTube app is far inferior to android one.
-no system monitor apps on Ipad. no real ones to let you monitor CPU usage, memory usage, etc..
-very large PDF files load up and turn pages very slowly on Ipad. my prime with same large PDF file plows through it easily. example: I have the complete Service manual for my dogs magnum. same manual service center uses. PDF file is over 300mb and several thousand pages long. I can use it easier and faster on my prime as I put it on both devices.
-Ipad doesn't even recognize all forms of photos/pictures. especially ones coming from android phones. apple has their own specific formats it'll only recognize. prime recognizes all picture formats.
-less than a handful of processor optimized apps and games. 99% of apps n games look and perform just as good on my ipad1 as they do with ipad2 or new Ipad. developers makes the apps n games for all generations. none hardly take advantage. so Android version of the same games end up looking better on Prime. more visual effects, details, etc.. not our fault apple or its developers too dumb not to optimize at least some apps for newer processors ipad2 and new Ipad has.
-no way to play another opponent over local wifi network like Android. on apple you can only play online. no local network playing support.
-apple has to use iTunes to transfer media, movies, make backup,etc...android can do all of thieving device itself.
I own both devices. for me, the negatives outweigh ipads positive. Ipad a straight up consumption device. Android is more productive and do things apple can only dream of out the box or jailbroken. Ipad gets no love here. This Android country. As you see Ipad/IOS has a very long list of negatives that I wasn't even done with yet. My negatives for ipad is far numerous than your positive points. i could've easily doubled that negatives list in size if i felt like continuing to list negatives. plus your comparison wasn't unbiased or even attempted to be. so expect the heat to come and thread probably shut down eventually. the ones like this always do. Mass effect coming also to android and will be tegra3 optimized. meaning we will have better looking and playing version. just like shadowgun and Riptide.

There's nothing wrong with you preceding IOS or Ipad over Android and prime. The problem is when you come into an Android/Prime dedicated forum and spew Ipad/Apple propaganda. Do you expect us to be like OK, he is right, Android and Prime does suck. now I want an Ipad..lol.
don't take the apple fanboy comment personal. comes with the territory. I am a fan of great products also. So based on my list of negatives for Ipad/IOS, I'd say I made a great decision sticking with Android and Prime. Me and alot of others don't easily fall for the me 2 hype. Ipad is a great device and the graphics are killer. For me though, Prime and Android is more well rounded. ill take far superior CPU and computational power anyday over just a focus in graphics. Life is not all about games you know.

I'm using right now OverSkreen - and this is a killer app. It changed the way i can use my Prime while browsing. Watching a stream in one and browsing in another window? That's magic.
I can use vPlayer and let the video play in the background. Download stuff? Access my NAS without hacks and tricks? Watching every Video (besides 10bit) on this planet? Hey, i can even watch a straight blu-ray rip with DicePlayer.
I don't need Millions of apps. Give me Apps which are awesome and gamechanging. Who cares about "garage band"? I think people will be blast when they see that Android user can use the inet in a PC-style.

Sorry i dont have an ipad3 yet but have read many official reviews that its a tiny bit faster than ipad2, sharper, better camera/video capture, and high resolution. In my opinion, I dont see the point of very high resolution on a small 9` inch screen. A 1080x720 would be plenty enough. A resolution like the ipad3 belongs on a 60` hdtv screen , not on a small screen. Seems like a marketing strategy by apple that serves no real purpose. The cpu is a modded a5 or core2 duo to accomodate the quadcore graphic chip.
Ipad3 beats tfp in the graphics department, but tfp definitly beats ipad3 in the cpu performance. Dont believe me.... go read about the benchmark. Xgary you should really try rooting your tfp and flash the rom to virtuous prime . I just did it yesterday and can honestly say what a big improvementt with the browsing experience and swiping between pages. The webpages are opening up much faster, more responsive, and feels a lot smoother. I played with tfp tablet for a total of 7 hours today to make sure i wasnt dreaming. Xda developers did an awesome job and they werent lieing when they said the rom will maker your tablet run faster and smoother.

What about general functionality? smoothness and beauty are nice to have features to maximize the user experience but functionality is the must-have base ... I don´t own an Ipad, only read articles about it and look some review and test videos to build my own opinion. If i then compare this information with this thread, 2 totally different images of the same product can be seen.
I mean sure there are lots of high-quality tablet apps and games for iOS and everything is very smooth, but to be honest, thats the only really positive thing about the new Ipad. I saw several reviews showing crashes of system apps, for example app store, game center and so one ... There are retina games available, which seems to cause heat problems and frame dropping after playing this ones for longer times ... In general there is an unbiased study available, that iOS apps crashes more often then Android apps.
One big task a tablet should be able to offer in perfection and mostly unindependant is browsing the web, in my opinion, a tablet should be able to raplace a desktop pc in matter of browsing! While Android tablets offer flash support, good working html5 and javascript, the new ipad is far away from that. No flash at all and many bugs in html5 and java script, for example try to post a comment on the youtube website in desktop view so html5 is used. it will be impossible, it will be impossible to do anything on the site, buttons are only place holders lol while the iOS youtube app is very ****ty compared to ICS one ... (as intended from google ...) For me a multimedia tablet really is useless if i only can work with some parts of the web ...
the ipad misses a stand-alone concept in general, that starts with the fact that you are not able to use your new Ipad without having a PC with itunes to activate that ...
You also underrated the port-topic regarding to the new Ipad. If i read all the opinions it seems that gaming is a really huge topic if it comes to iOS, so the lack of generic usb host feature that allows to connect input methods to controle the amazingly-looking games is a big FAIL, epic graphic engine is useless if the games must be controlled with emulated touch controls ... in most cases ...
Then there is that huge amount of limitation on iOS, if i get it right i´m even not able to use a .zip attachement received by mail (in the build in email app), thats just absurd, same with the fact that i would not be able to free copy and paste text between several apps, for me that are real must-have features to be able to do some work on that things ...
Then the form factor, funny idea of apple to choose a format which is not able to play 95% of the multimedia content for which it is build for in native aspect ratio (without black bars).
Then the usual standards that could be expected in multimedia tablets, like generic hdmi and the ability to just clone the screen, again try it with your ipad that way ...
And i really could continue, pls don´t get me wrong, i don´t say that iPad is a bad product, but in my opinion it is not "more perfect" than an android tablet and in my situation, the disadvantages of an Abdroid tablet(like a milisecond of lag every 30 minutes, or that i have to wait until 100+ hd games are available for android tablets and so one) are much more compensatable than the major feature lack of iOS ...
I'm just curious to why these posts keep popping up? I guess I just thought anyone on a developer forum would already know what ios has to offer. I mean for me yes, apple makes pretty nice hardware but I cant stand ios. Also I find it funny that everyone claims no bias when there clearly is bias one way or another, and yes I read the edit. These apple posts need to die. I almost miss all the *****ing, at least that was relevant to the product people own. Maybe I'm just confused on what this thread is trying to accomplish.

Depends. I don't need millions of apps either. but find me Android apps that are as good as Notability for note taking, Safari for browsing, iBooks for PDFs, Flipbook for news, Tweetbot for Twitter, etc. Then what about all the good games that are almost always available on iOS first? All the game loft games (I didn't have to beg game loft to support my iPad like we had to for TFP , mass effect, Fruit ninja online, Infinity blade, Temple Run (I waited for months for them to release on android) ZombieVille 2.

Lol benchmarks again. I always looked at benchmarks too. Then I played with an iPad and switched over right away. You know, the reviewers don't all praise the iPad because theyre fanboys, it actually is the leader. Besides, I doubt the custom rom runs as fast as my iPad but let's say it does. Why do I have to void my warranty and then have to flash a rom to get a smooth device?

Coming from someone with 80 posts. Are you paid by ASUS to defend their product? I'm sure they invested all this time into me posing as a fake xda member and posting for years and on the TFP forums way before it was even out so that one day I could bash the product. Yep, Apple is genius. They also pay every single reviewer, iPad user in the world. That is why they praise the product, not because it is good.

And I care about benchmarks because? I wish I had my TFP with me so I could show you how I get little lags here and there and how reading my 1000 page PDF textbooks lag everytime I scroll to the next page even tho I tried adobepdf, ezpdf, and repligo.

I don't think they are as "full" of complaints as the TFP did with Bluetooth, wifi, gps, screen problems, etc. The iPad has a huge userbase so it is expected to see complaints. But guess what? Got a problem with your iPad? Go to an apple store and they will give you a new one. What about TFP? RMA and wait a few weeks.
