[Q] ICS color depth - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I changed from MIUI GB to ICS yesterday and I've noticed that graphics like button which has gradient filling, are showing low color depth and I can actually see the gradient.
So instead of having smooth gradient, I have bands of gradient.
It wasn't like this in MIUI.
Can someone verify this?
Thanks.

Same here! I don't know if this is Samsung or Google's fault. Even on Nexus S, the gradients in settings menu are crap?! I played a little with Galaxy Nexus and everything is fine there. Is this something releated to the screen type or what? For me this is the deal breaker for ICS. I've searched the net about it, but nothing! No one speaks of this. Thi sreminds me for the problem with crappy youtube video quality- also no one talks about! Personaly i am waiting for Supercurio next app for color correction, and see if that helps. If not, ISC is NO GO unfortunately!

So far there's no Kernel for ICS that supports supercurio screen app...
Hope there will be a fix for it. This really sucks. all the great super AMOLD display and crappy gradients...
someone up there is really stupid.

Same problem here!
Is there any solution??

If you're running CM9 the gradients can be fixed by changing the mDNIe scenario to camera.
To do this go to the Settings menu, Advanced sub menu, Screen tab. Click on Scenario and select Camera.
No guarantees but it made a huge difference for me.

cm9 has a lot of bugs so it will take time until I'll change to this rom.. but I can't wait anymore

I like the samsung roms, and can't live without all the functions of them. It seems however, the problem with banding, is not present everywhere, it seems ok in gallery and browser. Maybe the twiz rendering is 16bit?

It also happens in Apex launcher.

"holo" background in settings menu. Yes, I've noticed this too.But in tw everything is even worst.

Today i found something interesting about this problem.
If i open the default browser, and go to menu>brightness and color, and change that from defautl to something different, the color banding was gone, but the screen got blueish tint. So obviously, the browser can change the color settings? Then, they must be stored somewhere in the system, and maybe that is the key for resolving this thing.

[Q] Any way to add browser color invert from CM6 to Vibrant?

I've been looking for ways to boost my battery life. After getting some Tasker profiles set up to do this, one thing I've been focusing on is the screen since the AMOLEDs don't use any energy for black areas of the display. I use LP with a solid black background, and very minimal clock on my homescreen, widgets are on a screen to the left, apps I frequently use are on a screen the right, but my homescreen is almost entirely black. I also have Bionix 1.3 which has a nice, mostly black theme, and the new JAC kernel, so it's hard to say what the respective gain in battery for each change I've made is, but my battery has only dropped 30% after been unplugged for 13 hours, and which included a fair amount of use.
I was looking around for a way to invert the browser colors, so that text within the browser would be white on a black background (low energy cost) instead of black text on a white background (high energy cost). It turns out this is a feature in CM6 (browser invert color), so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where I'd have to look to try to do the exact same thing, while I wait patiently for CM6.1 to be released for the Vibrant. I know there was black theme for the Droid which even modded the Gmail app to be white on black, but given how much more I use the browser, I'd just be happy if I just got that.
If there's another way to go about doing this, by all means, let me know. I looked around for a theme for Dolphin HD but I couldn't find a way to do it with that either. I'm fairly comfortable with the command line, and if it's just a manner of editing a XML file or something, I'm sure I could manage that, I just don't know where to look, and I kind of just don't want to start editing config files on my phone without really knowing what I'm doing. Thanks.
My understanding is colors displayed on websites are property of the website and not the browser. I am sure you have seen black themed websites in the existing browser. I can be wrong though.

I'm interested to know too. But just like what the guy above said, it's probably on the server side.

I want third ability so bad. White chews the battery and I hate having white on my screen which is all the time when I am web browsing. And frankly that sucks

If you're looking to increase your battery I highly recommend Juice Defender (ultimate), increased by batter life 1.8x.
juice defender its worthless as you lose functionality to gain battery that's not acceptable when having a browser with invert colors loses no functionality for the same our close battery life gain

You might be right, I'm not really sure. I do know that there is a common function for inverting the browser colors in the existing CM 6.0 releases. And if it can be done across the board in CM6, maybe there's a way to get working on the Vibrant. That's all I'm trying to figure out...well, that or another way to accomplish the same thing. I could understand if the way it is implemented in CM6 is a FroYo only thing, but if it isn't, we should be able to do that on the vibrant.

You can accomplish pretty much anything juice defender does with tasker instead.
No Steel had this option for like one version, night mode i believe it was called. It inverted text and bc color.
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!

Funny, I have the same setup
There must be a way to get the websites inverted, I had the Samsung Wave for a week and it HAD that option. I am also desperately looking for some solution for the Galaxy S (same as Vibrant?).
It drives me nuts that for example applications like the GMAIL one, do use black text on white background! WTF? We want to use the amoled properties!
Looking for a solution...
Cheers
I got in touch with the DolphinHD team, and feedback looks promising. Probably I will write the add-on myself so stay tuned!

[Q] Lockscreen Transition

This question may be hard to explain, so if I am doing a poor job at explaining, please let me know, but right now I have a rooted Thunderbolt (Das BAMF Remix 1.6.3) and I am using WidgetLocker. When I unlock my phone, I like how sometimes it just go straight to the homescreen with no transition, but sometimes it does that 'zoom out' transition where the screen gets smaller as it zooms out into the homescreen. I tried looking all over in the preferences of WidgetLocker but I cannot seem to find where I can make it so there is no transition and the lock screen goes straight to the homescreen... I also looked at my LauncherPro preferences to see if I can stop the homescreen from transitioning from the lockscreen (maybe that is where the problem lies). I could not find anything and was wondering if there was a way to make it so the lockscreen/homescreen do not transition when the phone is unlocked? Any help is appreciated - thanks!
Bump - if I need to clarify, let me know, because I sometimes do a piss poor job at making sense of my words, ha.
Hmm.. does it do that without widgetlocker?
It could possibly be just part of the structure of the Rom.
Mine, when I unlock, has the fade effect.
Would that be what you're talking about?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Possibly? It looks like when I unlock, sometimes it goes right to the homescreen, which I like, or sometimes it looks like the lockscreen background (which is different from the homescreen background, maybe I should have clarified that earlier, sorry) zooms away into the homescreen background, which looks awful. I feel like it is trying to transition, but since they are different backgrounds, it looks weird unless I can change that. Is that better or is my explanation still a little confusing?
From what it sounds like, its just the lockscreen app you are using, just having a different wallpaper. Have you tried changing both to the same or is it something else?
I believe I know what you're talking about with how the lockscreen seems to "slide" away so to speak?
It did that with me when I used lockscreen apps
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yeah, I am using WidgetLocker, which a lot of people told me was great, and so far I really love how customizable it is. I would like to keep it both different (I have a sort of theme going on and it wouldn't work right if they were different), but yeah, the lockscreen just sort of zooms away and the homescreen flies in (the background does not necessary fly in but the top notification bar and the icons fly into place). I feel that there is a way to make it so there is no transition or anything like that, but I cannot seem to find it, ha.
Not really sure. That's just how the system works I believe. It's basically an app transitioning to another app. (Which can be disabled in phone display settings)
So let me know how it goes because I have been considering about getting widget locker too haha.

Hmmm... Your post actually gave me an idea and I switched that Animations from "All Animations" to "Some Animations." I have no idea if this will work or not, but I will let you know.
EDIT:
"Some Animations" made it go away - thanks to everyone who helped!

What's the difference between touchwiz and a rom that isn't ..

I was wondering what the difference is in a touchwiz and non touchwiz rom is. What does one offer that the other doesn't?
The Touchwiz UI

Why does that contain? I can't find anything on what it is. Is it similar to sense or more like entertainment?

User interface. Helps with settings, eases twitter, Facebook and other widgets to be open and recieve live feeds on honeycomb homescreens. Adds a screen capture button which helps with forums. Just research galaxy tab 10.1 touchwiz UI. Really can't miss it.

Can The TW works on my P7510 (Chinese stock)?
Stay away from TouchWiz, is a pile of horse **** bloatware.
TouchWiz is by far the most advanced software you currently can get on a tablet. The user experience it provides is light years ahead of anything else out there, even Honeycomb 3.2.
Not only that but TouchWiz gives you access to specific hardware you cant access without it. The ability to change color temperature of the screen is a HUGE feature you can only have with toucwiz.
Here are just a few of the features you get from TouchWiz that you cant get anywhere else :
1. REAL multitasking just like in Windows. You can have TWO apps open at once on the same screen and not have to switch back and forth. There is nothing like this available in the market or in 3.2. HUGE props to Samsung for doing this.
2. Ability to change color temperature of the screen.
3. One touch wifi file access to tablet from PC <-- AWESOME
4. Sluggish menu scrolling in vanilla Honeycomb are gone! It looks like
Samsung devs used video hardware acceleration for scrolling which creates a smooth experience compared to Vanilla honeycombs laggy jumpy scrolling in may menus.
5. Awesomenew notification/settings popup menu. FAR superior to stock Honeycomb.
6. One touch screen capture button in the task bar takes a snap shot of the screen and automatically saves to a folder.
7. Lots of cool QUALITY widgets not like the junk you find in the market.
8. Motion gestures
9. Superior App Manager/ RAM manager which can run ON TOP of any app you are running.
10. BEST Music app and runs super smooth. Much better than stock H.C. or anything in the market
11. BEST Ebook reader app you can get.
12. Your tablet will run FASTEST with touchwiz. Samsung is using hardware acceleration for menus like Apple. Stock HC uses software rendering which is why its so slow and laggy. You cant get hardware acceleration if you dont have TouchWiz. No the Devs here will not be able to add it as its beyond their capabilities.
The list goes on and on. TouchWiz is simply a superior experience than stock HC. I would even dream of using my tab without it. Your tablet is incomplete and missing features to access hardware if you dont have TouchWiz.
I am really curious about changing the color temperature. How do you do it?

Settings --> Screen --> Mode
Thanks 5th, that is exactly what I was looking for. This is my first tablet, and Im only coming from the HTC evo. And from that I came from the HTC hero. So Im still pretty green to this.
Is it worth swapping the kernel out? I know and Im sure you know as well, doing that on android phones will help out a lot. But what about on these tabs? IS that VooDoo what its made out to be?
touchwiz is pretty cool, but the gmail and calendar sucks big time compared to the original honeycomb version. how the heck can i see week view NORMALLY like honeycomb calendar instead of zooming with pinch and zoom. c'mon!

I respect your choice, related to TouchWiz. I enjoy vanilla builds of Honeycomb and I think TouchWiz removes the Android authenticity. There is a reason why devs like PhantomHacker release their ROM's cleaned from the bloatware Samsung adds. I'm looking forward to install his vanilla 3.2 ROM on my P7510.

[Q] Launcher & Wallpaper resolution not playing well

To begin with, I'm far from new to Android, just new to Samsung and the Note.
Also - I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't run across a solution yet. I can take and image I want to use as a wallpaper and, on the lock screen and the Touch whiz home screen and it looks exactly like I want it to. But, since I'm one of those folks who dislikes the fact that I can't swap out apps on the TW launcher bar, I slap my own launcher on the Note to make it mine again. Unfortunately, then comes the annoying part.......
Whatever photo I put up as wallpaper looses resolution and seems to explode in size so that only about 1/4 of the original wallpaper/ photo is visible and what's left is very blurry. I know this isn't limited to just one launcher - I've tried ADW, Launcher Pro, Nemus, Go Launcher, Holo, and a few more I can't remember the names of right now. And they all give me the same problem.
So far I've changed the format of the wallpaper photo to .png or .jpeg and back again, tweaked the size and resolution of the picture, dug through XDA and a few other forums fort wisdom, and used harsh language on my Note - all to no avail. So, can anyone tell me what I'm missing or if there's any hope for me at all? I'm rooted stock 2.3.6 and would prefer, for various reasons, to stay that way for now. But, at this point I'm willing to consider options if all else fails since I'm getting quite annoyed by this.
Thanks for any help/ insight!
Use the Quickpic app to set the wallpaper.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

3D parallax Background issue

Hey all,
I recently downloaded an app called 3D PARALLAX BACKGROUND.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vinwap.parallaxwallpaper
Seemed like a cool and interesting thing, much like the new iOS feature. Background looked pretty awesome too once I was done installing...
Only problem is, it changed my lock screen to something else (I guess a default within the program) and no matter what I do, I can't change it back to stock.
I have tried uninstalling the app, restarting the device, changing lockscreen to every stock lockscreen available, etc but it still won't change back.
Super weird and it seems that I am the only person that has had this problem. I looked through the app reviews and nobody mentions it. Wondering if it's an HTC One problem... Running 4.2.2 Android Revolution 12.0
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have attached a screenshot of the lockscreen in question. It's a nice looking one at least, but I am not a huge fan of the functionality and I would rather have a 12-hour clock than a 24-hour one...
TL;DR App changed lockscreen, can't get the stock one back.
