The country China has a firewall set up so specific websites like Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter etc. can't be accessed. This is what he means.
EDIT: Lol, sorry you beat me to it.

Cannot work. Unable to connect for me.
You could perhaps use AutoProxy and dig up a proxy on a non-firewalled port to connect. There was a time when Proxy Hunter on Windows was good for finding them, but it has been years since I have used it.
http://hidemyass.com/proxy-list/ has a reasonably fresh list.

Vpn is the answer, but you need server outside of china. I'm sure there's some app that can do that, but again, you need server. Vpn is virtual private network, like proxy but more sofisticated.

VPN is the only thing I found to work.
A free option that somewhat works is DroidVPN (on the market) but for the heavy stuff I just use my house VPN provider, StrongVPN has a nice deal where if you buy one VPN account for the house you can get a second one for a very cheap price, I use the second one on my phone.
Their prices are reasonable at around 60$ per year.
I heard there are specific places in china where the internet isnt filtered o-0.

When I was there, I used sshtunnel to connect to my Linux box at home, which had sshd listening on 443. Worked perfectly.
Forgot to mention, there are sites out there that let you test access from China to your home IP prior to going there.

Actually I am using iwasel VPN service on my android without rooting my device, it gives me 6 connections at the same time with perfect speed and security, here you can find a discount code https://www.iwasel.org/en/trysmoketunnelfree/ and you can get an account for trial before paying money.

As stated above. A little more info. The Chinese government is allowed to monitor all traffic by its citizens. As such they block most outside competitors like Google and fb mostly due to them not allowing the government access to the info.

I can download just fine on my phone, but it's easier to get on my computer and download from there. That's what isnt working.
Your ISP is probably using a new public IP address. Thus, your computer is recognized as out of the states.
Edit: if this is the case, it will go away by itself after a few days when the servers are updated.

Isp doesnt affect Android market, as if you go to market settings you will find your phone model and mobile service provider that you are using. Android market depends on that data. I can use russian proxies to download US apps and market wont block me till I am on US mobile network.

Root your phone and install AdAway
Adfree is free better than adway ..
Edward Cullen
That won't block porn websites - just in-app ads.
OP - does your service provider not give the option of adult filtering at their end? In the UK it's actually turned on by default and you have to request if you want it off.

Try this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trendmicro.tmmspersonal
It gives you a fully functional version for 90 days and then you have to decide whether to pay or not. It has parental block for the internet.
Edit: Actually, a search for parental block apps on Google Play turns up quite a few...

Awesome App that modifing HOST file in your android , and more advance than other ads block app's , that u can update it easily form the application
Suggest "ROM Toolbox"
One of the tools in ROM Toolbox Lite is a hosts-file modifier that can block ads, casinos, porn, and 'risky' domains. Seems to work well and it's nice and simple (as long as you've rooted your phone of course).

I'm also looking for android filtering apps to block sites while surfing or use apps. But it seems it's a little more difficult to make it than developing the features on Mac or Windows operating system. I use Aobo Internet Filter ( http://aobo.cc/aobo-filter.html ) for Mac and PC, but can't find any apps to block unwanted sites for android phones. I want to know if you found anyone, just tell me, thanks.
Can someone tell me what's the use of DroidVpn? ?

online login to upgrade
Hey, ik I'm not supposed to post in here but I'm not sure how to create a new thread, and I'm sure droidvpn will see this since its their most recent post. I just had an issue with the online log In on the site. It keeps telling me I have an invalid log in ID or password but its the same one I use to get on the server with the app. I'm just trying to upgrade to premium.
Heya guys,
I had 4.1.1 till few weeks ago, after I updated to 4.1.2 Wanamlite ALL adblockers I try don't work... I used Adfree before and had 0 Ads in apps.
Now, no matter which one I try I have ads in there.
I had to install another version of adfree which removes only a few ads but not all, I tried adblock plus, adaways, and adfree....
My phone's rooted as usual, i let them acces internet via droidwall...
What is the problem ?
Is there a general change in 4.1.2 hich prevents some ads from being blocked ?
Thanks in advance.
Gram
All should work. What if you turn off droidwall?
Adaway worked for me on 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 leak. I then moved to 4.2.2 aosp and it still works

Heya,
Droidwalls logs are empty, i set things up a year ago so doirdwall isn't it. plus adfree and all the others adblocker apps always have all permissions.
So should I simply try another version other than 4.1.2 or why the hell isn't it working ? *sigh*
If you don't know why its not working, how can you rule out any cause?
Logic says remove as many variables as possible. I asked what happens without droid wall. Did you try it? I ask because you didn't satisfactorily answer the question.
Please rule out droidwall first. Then we talk more.

Adblocker plus (not crapy Play's one) works fine here with AFWall+.
It can't block all adds, only those coming from external add networks, not those natively brought through the application's server (mostly games I guess).

Yeah its the same for me.
I am using the same aps I used to use before 4.1.2, I was using the older version of adfree which was working perfectly. No inapp ads nothing.
Now i had to update the adfree to another version and the inapp ads are not blocked anymore. I mean those built in.... because those aps cannot acces the internet anyways.
The got blocked before I am just wondering why not anymore...

Thanks. If this is from /system/etc (or /etc) then it rules out the apps. Your hosts file has 25000+ entries (more than mine by about 4000)... so it would definitely appear to be a rom issue. The app is doing its job by writing to the hosts file.
I trust it has standard /system permissions?

Hey, yeah prolly... It has root permissions. I was using the older wanam rom, it was working pretty nice....
What I am asking myself is: some ads seem to be built into the ap itself, since i don't allow any of the games or apps i use to connect to the internet. So ofc some ads are always there right ?
But then I realize, hey I was using all those aps before and none of those ads were there before...
What u think, should I change the rom ? can u recommend a good one ? I was pretty happy with wanam tbh...
cheers.

If you can tell me a few games to test for you I can let you know....
Since the hosts file simply blocks web hosts connecting in from the internet, it can't touch ads that are embedded in the game that works when the internet is off. So yeah, anything that still works with no internet cannot be blocked.
When I use touchwiz, I prefer wanam

First game: Third blade
In this game if u start a level, u get a small banner ad at the center top of the screen. Now, the game is blocked and cannot access internet. yet It has this ad. Here comes the twist though, When I had my sgs+ back 2 years ago, and had adblocker i didnt have that banner ad, so whats deal with that nowadays ? Simply different version ? (upgrade with integrated ads) ?? The sgs+ had 2.3.3 or so...
Second game: Jewels saga
If i start the game now I get this stupid fullscreen ad which I have to press away. I used the same game in 4.1.1 with wanamlite and adaway and dindn't have this ad, so how come after the upgrade, under the same circumstances this ad now appears ? Please check if u get the fullscreen ad at the start..
I deleted a **** load of games so I only have these 2a atm...
Thanks alot.
Sincerely
Gram
