[Q] Stuck in Odin - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all developers or users,
The thing I encounted is horrible to my i9100
I tried to flash a lidroid rom through Odin, but I encountered some errors, therefore
I plugged out my cable. I regretted but I just tried to reboot my phone. But there is
not the original boot animation, instead, it is a sign that 'a triangle between a phone and the computer'.
I cannot access to the Recovery Mode but only the Download Mode.
In Odin, I tried to flash different roms to replace!!
But I was stuck in all of them.
some at NAND WRITE START!! and some at Sbl.bin
What I can do????
A poor rookie

Did you try to flash through Odin stock rom, not custom?

That triangle b/w phone & computer is forced download mode if I'm not mistaken; I.E you it's forcing you to flash something in order to boot the phone.
Search for stock firmware either in Intratech's thread; carrier branded here or country specific/non carrier branded here. If the links don't work, search Samfirmware.
Flash the stock rom in Odin. If it doesn't work try the following:-
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again. Also run Windoze Update.
*Check the rom you download for corruption. Programs like 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar, etc will allow you to 'test' the rom file you download. If there are any errors/any of the files fail the test, bad download. Try again/try downloading with a different internet connection if it keeps happening
*And if all this fails, try a different PC.

I tried flashing the ICS stock, but Odin stops at sbl.bin

Sounds like a bad download.
Best thing to do is go back to Gingerbread stock in the first instance as per my post above. Then you can try the ICS thing again when you have a 'clean slate'.

I tried downloading one now!!
Is the rom there flashed by Odin??

Another option for you to fetch a stock rom is to get it directly from samsung's servers, using CheckFusDownloader.
Just flash any stock rom similar to the version you had (2.3.x ?) to go back to a stable state, then you should be good to go.
Also, make sure you *don't* activate the "PIT / repartition" option in Odin - I think this wasn't your problem otherwise the phone wouldn't even go to download mode if this was messed up and no working SBL existed on the phone any more.

Yes. Flash firmware downloaded from Samfirmware with Odin, however, follow whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site. They might differ from the instructions in Intra's threads. I wouldn't know for certain, never flashed firmware from Samfirmware.
Also, Tungstwenty's suggestion to use Checkfus to download firmware is an excellent one if you're happy to use the latest stock firmware you'd normally get via Kies. If you do use Checkfus, flash the firmware you download with it following the Odin instructions in Intratech's threads.

How can I deal with '.enc2' extensions??

From Checkfus ? If my memory serves me correctly (and I've only downloaded firmware with Checkfus once a few months ago), it automatically decrypts the enc file when it's finished downloading it. If not, maybe have a look at the Checkfus thread on here.

I successfully downloaded that but I flashed fail.
I stuck on that command Sbl.bin inside Odin.

Try all the suggestions in my post on the previous page (there were a stack of them). My guess is a bad download. If you try all those suggestions, I'd try another PC and/or downloading the rom with another internet connection.

I search for internet and someone said it might be related with the bootloader. Is it related??
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA

Might be. I've never had a problem with a bootloader, so I'm not going to advise you what to do around same given you run the risk of bricking your phone when you mess around with bootloaders; you only flash a bootloader if you have a specific reason for doing so.
Maybe someone else will be prepared to do so.

I tried to do that on another pc then first.
Or is there any method to clear my binary times without access to the recovery mode.

Can't flash with ODIN - PLEASE help!

Spent a frustrating day trying to sort this so I'm posting here as a last resort as I'm at the end of my tether!!
So. Was browsing the marketplace(new style) and my phone crashed and then would not reboot. It would only go as far as the Samsung Galaxy S2 screen. so I took out the battery and half an hour later returned to see if all was well when I reinserted the battery. It wasn't. I should point out at this point that I was happily using the latest MIUI and appart from the occasional reboot all was well. When reinserting the battery did not work I tried to reboot into CWM but found that I could not. I can however reboot into download mode so have been trying to reflash my phone using that. However I can't get past factoryfs.img! It just stops there every time! Tried :
Usb Jig
Different USB ports
Restart computer
Reinstalling Kies drivers
A different version of ODIN
Many different ROM files (including Litening 1.5 which I know works from a previous flash)
Re downloading various ROMs in case the download was dodgy
Please, please help. I just don't know what to do now
Im thinking its very possible that something in your phone fried and the only option you have is service.. From the way you describe things as not advancing past factory fs.
You make no mention of flashing a stock rom via Odin .That is the normal method of recovery.

Thru odin you must use 4 files first you have to use pit- ext4 , then- pda , then- phone , and finaly csc.
You got all files here and do please read.
These are stock roms.

Latest:
Unistalled Kies
Installed a newer Kies
Tried Odin 1.83 instead of 1.85
Since reinstalling Kies and reinstalling the drivers, my computer won't recognise the phone at all even in download mode. Might have to admit defeat soon
Flash this recovery package, which is XXKI3, 2.3.5, Open Europe http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html
Tick the 3 top boxes (Re Partition, auto reboot and F.Reset time)
PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
If that doesn't work or fails, flash this, which is a XXKI3 Kernel : http://www.multiupload.com/WDOO81L5H6. After that, re-flash the recovery package (with PIT and repartitiong, but be careful )
Report back if it doesn't work, and good luck!
If that doesn't work, flash the old bootloader : http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD in either the PDA or Bootloader section in ODIN. If that is successful, flash the Kernel again, and then the XXKI3 recovery package I gave you.

Problems with odin and bell galaxy s2

hi
i am not unfamiliar with flashing using odin as i have flashed galaxy tabs and captivates.
i bought a used sg2 that has the triangle logo on the front and appears rooted and is unlocked.
i have done a factory wipe/restore thru cwm and fixed permissions.
i am trying to flash the kh3 modem to improve gps which is dismal to say the least.
i have kies installed and odin detects the s2 fine with the yellow comport.
am using odin 1.85 with no pit and the modem bin.
odin never completes and never gives an error.
the phone is in download mode with usb debugging enabled in android.
any ideas on this?
i have tried 2 different winxp computers and both exhibit the same problem with odin.
also is there anyway to get back to stock without odin if i cant get this to work.
thanks

where would you put the modem.bin or modem.tar?
phone sd storage or external sd storage?
thanks
i have put more info in my op regards to kernal.
I would turn off usb debugging .
Stop Kies from running via task manager .
Download modem file from modem thread make sure its an ODIN flash able file not CWM as that wont flash via Odin .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
Open Odin put file to PHONE
phone to download mode
Connect Samsung cable
Flash
If it fails retry with file in PDA instead of phone .
Fails from same thread try a modem for CWM flash via CWM .

Download mode problem

So I have a stock unbranded i9100 that I'm just starting to play with. I roited it yesterday using Superoneclick, which went fine. I then tried to download a new kernel onto it to install clockworkmod recovery.,The phone goes into download mode just fine, anf yes I do press vol up to confirm. Odin and heimdall even find the phone and start the diwnload pricess, but heimdall doesnt progress beyond 0% and Odin freezes at zImage. Kies also cannot successfully update the firmware. Ive tried in an xp computer, a win 7 computer and a mac, no luck on any if them. The phone still works fine after I take the battery out. Help! What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Your Odin problem sounds like wrong firmware or wrong file or wrong phone .

Perhaps playing is the wrong word - I did read the FAQ's/guides before starting and thought I knew what I was doing.
Under About phone, I'm using a GT-I9100 running 2.3.3, Baseband I9100XXKE4, Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2, Build GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
I used odin 1.83 and 1.85 on several different computers, killing off all mentions of Kies in task manager first. I've tried multiple kernels including CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.zip from the link above and get stuck at the same point every time - odin just gets to zImage then freezes. Could somebod be more specific about what I am doing wrong or how I can find the information I need?
Thanks for your help!

1) uninstall KIES
2) Download drivers (copy in my 4shared, see link in sig, 4icon)
3) install driver
4) try flashing
If that doesnt work try
1) Changing USB ports
2) Changing USB cables
3) Try a different PC.
Thanks for sharing the drivers but still no luck.
I guess I'll order a new USB cable and see if that helps. Is it likely to - the cable transfers data ok otherwise, its just in download mode?

And its just a few things that might be causing the problem, no guarantees its the problem.

You need a working USB connection to use Odin.
You could install the Samba app or something similar on your phone, copy the ROM to it via wifi, reboot into CWM an install from there (you'll need a rom in CWM zip format).
Alternatively, given USB worked at some point (as you installed a ROM) you could try uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung Kies and the Samsung USB drivers (they install wit Kies).

Multiupload and megaupload were forced to close some time ago by the US Department of Justice and the FBI. Any links pointing at those domains will not work and it has been known for quite some time.
You can try to find stock firmwares that are still linked to those two domains with CheckFUS or at samfirmware.com.

Your phone seems to be soft bricked. Are the stock roms you downloaded .tar files or .md5 files? If they are .zip files or .rar files, uncompress them with 7zip. Did you put them in the PDA slot in ODIN?
@Amo5,
Sorry to be so late to answer your question, but I have been traveling out of town for the holiday.
Go to the Download Repository and get the latest stock distribution, I777UCMD8 Stock Binaries (Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean). Enter download mode and flash that, and see if the flash will complete. If the flash completes, but the phone does not boot past the splash screen, enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset.
If the flash is not successful, your phone may have nand read/write corruption, so post back here with the results of the above, and I will post the instructions for clearing nand r/w corruption.

The problem MAY be NAND read/write corruption. It is also possible that you have a bad or flaky connection between the phone and the computer. Sometimes failed flash is due to USB cable or micro USB connector on the phone, or you may need to use a different USB port on the computer, or even another computer. If the problem is NAND read/write corruption, then the following should clear it.
Instructions to clear nand read/write corruption. Instructions are specific; do them in order, and don't skip.
Odin3 v1.85 is recommended.
1) Download the Tar version of Siyah 2.6.14 Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
2) Flash the Tar.md5 of the full stock Gingerbread distribution from the Download Repository, I777UCKH7 including the bootloaders and everything, in the PDA slot.
3) If that is successful you are done. If it is not, then:
4) Download the SBL Bootloader from the Download Repository. Flash it as PDA in ODIN, without ticking Re-Partitioning. (Please observe normal bootloader flashing caution.)
5) Flash the Kernel, as in step 1.
6) Flash the full stock Gingerbread distribution, as in step 2.

I would first suspect a problem with the connection. As I wrote previously:

Try different cables. Try different USB port on the computer. If you can get access to a different computer, try flashing from that. That will be a good start to troubleshooting this issue.

In 99.9% of cases (I'm not going to say it's an absolute, but nearly so), when the phone can go into download mode it can be flashed. I'm not sure I know all the possible factors that would interfere with a flash, but the connection between the phone and the computer probably accounts for the vast majority of cases.
Have you ever had any problems with the USB port on the phone? You might try cleaning it with alcohol, not 80% as it has too much water in it, at least 90% or better.
Another thing you could try is flashing it using Heimdall from the command line instead of using Odin.

There is little else I can add to help find a solution to your issue. I've already covered pretty much what I know about the SGH-I777 with respect to your issues.
Even though you have been unable to flash with the things you have tried so far, it still may flash for you if you keep working with it. I have seen users report in the forums here that they were able to get a successful flash on the xth try (I don't remember, 5th, 10th, 15th?)
It could possibly be an issue with your micro usb port on the phone? What have you done to trouble shoot that?
There are some things that could cause the reported behavior that are not related to the connection between the phone and the computer. I have seen one or two reports of actual memory module damage that would allow the phone to boot, but not to function correctly. In such a case, the damage is in a non-critical area of the memory.
If you live near an AT&T service center (not a store), you might take the phone in to the technicians there and ask if they can help you out. I know the phone is rather old and out of warranty, but they still might help.
You could send the phone to Samsung for repair. There will be a charge. I think you could determine how much by calling them ahead of time.
