[Q] Do I need a new battery? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey guys,
I have been running unnamed rom lately, but on any other rom including stock. My battery lasts for like 8 hours with little use and 4 hours with moderate use. When I see what is draining my battery it looks normal as the display uses the most, but I only have it at 30% brightness most of the time I have insurance should I see if I can get a new battery? Or any other tips?

Can you post a pic of your battery usage?

Have you tried to calibrate the battery yet?

Many things could cause battery drainage, such as oc-ing. You could find the original Samsung battery on eBay for a cheap price. Before buying one, try doing the following:
Clear OC/UV settings (i.e. put to defaults)
Download Battery Calibration by NeMa (on the Play Market)
Charge your phone and wait until it reaches 100%*
Tap on "Battery Calibration" and done
Once calibrated, use your phone as you normally would until the battery dies. Only when it dies you can charge it. You can charge as you please from then on.
Note: If it does not reach up to 100%, go to CWM and clear battery stats.

Which other firmwares? Anything UCKK6-based has known documented wifi drain issues.
The usual applies - look in battery statistics, use BetterBatteryStats to hunt wakelocks.

THIS DOES NOTHING ON ANY SAMSUNG GALAXY S DEVICE!

never tried the battery calibration?... does it actually work or no?

have you installed any new apps recently? those apps that use a lot of apps in the background are a pest to your battery life as they usually won't show up in the battery monitor. try disabling your data when not in use and see if that helps. if the current rom you are on does not have a toggle bar with data use the "data enabler widget" by Farproc.

Flashing decrease battery life?

I have been flashing back and forth ROM and Mods... I felt my battery getting worse compare to stock (stock Rom removed lot of ATT craps and other unused app).
Now doesn't what Rom i use: S8, Unname and CM7. My battery died at the end of the day which should last 1.5 days as my normal use.
Hmmm... well I jumped onto the ship already.
But I have to thanks for all developers that cook Rom. You guys are best.
Battery lifestyle will improve once you build up cache. Was battery life good when you first got your phone? Probably not. After awhile battery life gets a bit better.
Sent from a Galaxy far far away...
I noticed the same thing when I flashed from UnNamed to S8.
I followed some other users' suggestions and reflashed at 100% battery life, allowed the battery to discharge all the way until the phone died, then charged all the way to 100% again without taking it off the charger. I just got 25 hours with moderate usage and about 4 hours of screen-on time.
download the batteryCalibration app from the market, it requires root and makes you charge to 100% first. After that let it drain and it should do better after a couple cycles.
If you delete your battery stats in clockwork the phone relearns them and works better. But it will be ****ty for awhile

None of these do jack on our phone. I've read the kernel source for our fuel gauge driver, clearly none of you haven't and are blindly applying HTCisms to a Samsung phone even though I've posted MANY times that diddling with batterystats does NOTHING WHATSOEVER on this phone.
If someone's experiencing bad battery life after flashing a new ROM, especially a debloated one like Unnamed or S8, they most likely installed a drainer app.
If you run Skype, nuke that crap from your phone ASAP. It's a known battery drainer, and it's particularly insidious because of how it drains the battery - the usage shows up as Android OS but it's Skype that is at fault.

[Q] Battery drain problem - or is it just me?

Hi there,
just in advance: Yes, I have read quite a bunch of battery drain threads, but non of them seemed to help me.
Compared to GB, my SGS2 doesn't even seem to last more than a day in terms of battery life.
Now I wonder - is it just me playing around with (otherwise awesome) CM9 and battery life is actually normal or is there some kind of battery drain going on?
Running CM9 14-04, stock kernel, LPS baseband.
Attached please find BBS stats and other battery stats screenshots.
Help very much appreciated

Awake over 2 hours, 1 hr 43 min screen on, down to 62%. That's on track for 5.5 hours awake time, and about 4.5 hours screen on time. Looks pretty normal.
You MIGHT be able to squeeze a bit more juice out by playing with your sync and display settings, but that otherwise doesn't look that bad.

the graph looks pretty good without gsf and alarm manager wakelocks
Have you tried to re-calibrate your phone? I once messed around with my battery and i lost 70% battery overnight when it was on 100% because i was unplpugging, plugging my phone in randomly.
How do I do that?
Just bought a 2000mA battery and it seems I still got the same 'issue'...

Did you try to wipe your battery stats? Also, I noticed that playing around flashing the Roms, requires 2-3 full charging cycles before the battery was "stable" again
I've also read the following but didn't try it (I imagine it does the same than wiping the battery stats in the recovery, but you never know, you can try it):
Delete batterystats.bin in data/system, after full charging (with Rootexplorer or another app)
Then, use it until to 90%, and full charging.
Good luck!
When is it a good idea to wipe battery stats? When it's empty or at full charge?

The CM9 has some battery drain problems because is still developing maybe try wiyth another rom and see if the problem remains

Stats seem fine to me. Your phone shouldn't drain much when idle, but once that big screen is lit up the power drains much faster. The SGS2 stock battery is not huge to begin with either. Your 2000mah will be better though, especially after using it for a few cycles. You can also try flashing a different stock kernel or custom kernel (Siyah, etc).

Thanks guys!
So charged my 2000mA battery up to 100% now and wiped the battery stats. Hope this helps.
I really wanted to stick to CM9, because I don't wanna do a factory reset every couple of days when flashing other ROMs, because I'm tired of setting up all my stuff over and over again...
Are the other ROMs really that much better? Thought that CM9 would be best, because most popular...
Or could it be the baseband/modem too?
I am on LPS right now... I've searched the forums forever, but can't seem to find an answer for:
What is the best baseband/modem for battery life?

Battery drain issue.

Hi guys,
Is anyone having battery drain issues with their new sgs3's?
With my one it wouldn't last 12 hours without dying. Also if its at 100% it'll drop to 70% overnight while i sleep (6-7 hours) and thats with power saver on, sync off and running juicedefender.
Today I factory reset the phone and only installed flash, whatsapp and dolphin browser. Have wifi on, sync, data, gps and bluetooth off. Havent got pictures of battery stats yet since I only reset it half an hour ago.
So is anyone else experiencing battery drain? if so have you fixed it? and how?
Are there any apps I should be aware of that drain the battery?
I would remove juice defender.
Uninstall lightflow app if you are using it.
Use betterbstterystats to identify any wakelocks. The xda thread of the same name will be able to help with solutions.
Other than that follow general tips on increasing battery life that are found all over xda.
This device is easily capable of much better battery life than you are getting.
Good luck.

No issues at all so far, in my case. In fact this is the first Android phone I've owned that has no battery-related issues
Based on my previous experience what you can try doing is (a) install CPU Spy to see if your phone is entering 'deep sleep' appropriately (b) install BetterBatteryStats to identify offending applications.
Even the 'Battery' section in settings is useful -- just check if any apps are keeping the phone awake for longer than you've actually used them ('Stay Awake' number).
ok well ive installed bad ass battery monitor since its free. Also since I did factory restore i charged it to full and in 1 hour 44 mins it used 7% on idle. Going to charge it to full again and use it normally to see how it is.
Only apps ive installed is XDA, badd ass battery, dolphin browser and whatsapp.
maybe you have samsung widgets etc set to refresh every hour or shorter. Or could be Whatapp

Just woke up and about to start work (Australia time). Ive taken a bunch of screenshots from stock battery monitor and from bad ass battery monitor. Will post up when I get home.
Also I installed battery monitor pro but it wont let me select 2100mAh. when I put it 2100mAh and press ok it just goes back to 1500mAh. Battery is currently at 36%.

Not too happy with my battery either. Fully charged over night and its down to 89% 1hr 30 later. Is that normal? However, you did mention lightflow earlier though which I have installed - Is that a massive battery drain? My battery stats seem to show display as being the big culprit but I have brightness set to it lowest setting.
Also, can't seem to find battery monitor pro on play?

I'm on Omega V4.0 and with wifi always on, fully charged 3 hours back and when i woke up it's 95% remaining. So about 1.66% loss per hour in sleep mode. With regular usage and installing and testing different roms and backing up etc them i easily get about 8~10 hours. Phone's made in Korea and battery mfg date is 2012.5.6.
Plus tons of widgets on home screens.

[Q] Batery calibration issues.

I've been using my s3 for the past one week and my device shows 99% assoon as i remove my charger! i've tried changing the rom, erased my Battery stats, recalibated my battery using playstore apps. even though it shows 99%. please help! by battery life is worst!
All GS3's are like this only. The battery actually never charges to 100. Its purely cosmetic.
Please tell me you've actually tried searching for this before posting since there are literally dozens of threads and discussions revolving around it.
Physically it's very simple. If a battery is 100% full, it's as full as it can get. This is not true for everything but for most consumer-related stuff. (Airplane turbines, reactors and other industry-machines see it as a maximum value for long-time usage but can go quite a bit above)
If you unplug it, your phone starts draining battery since -surprise,surprise- it needs power. So the battery cannot stay at 100% if a (however tiny) part has been removed.
Phones that remain at 100% after unplugging for some time are lying to you to make them look better. And you don't want a manufacturer lying to you, do you?

Better check of you have rogue apps in the background or your screen brightness, my batterylife is quite good (about 2 days with medium/heavy) use. Running stock firmware.

That's perfectly ok. Relax Been discussed here already...
PS absolutely no need to calibrate the battery
This happens to me as well but don't fret over it.... Calibrations should be done regularly but not overly or it'll stress your battery more than necessary.
You do not calibrate your battery regular the year is 2012 not 1995 .
Battery auto calibrates itself use it ignore it .

[Q] A Very very Wierd Problem...Please Help !

I was really suffering from massive battery drain....see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933012
ive now found out that i am having a very wierd problem...My rom is showing some 30% battery while 4ext shows 50%......Sometimes it is exactly the opposite....Once i discharged my phone to 2% (rom reading) and when i saw in recovery it says 17%....
I have completed many many cycles of battery from charging to full....and discharge to 0.....Also i used the battery callibration app SEVERAL times!!!!........But nothing seems to work...
Can somebody help...Please
I am really suffering from massive battery drain http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933012 :crying:
Did you try to delete battery stats? Or use an app to improve battery life?
I have the same issue too when booting into recovery. I don't worry about it. I suggest the same as Ramjet in your other thread.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
I had this issue with my old battery and old charger,
Now I dont use my phone while charging , I charge other batteries with the wall charger while using other ones and everything is fine now.... battery % seems to be same in both android and recovery.
I have that same issue too. Lol maybe the recovery can't read the battery correctly. It'll show up higher in recovery and then when I reboot, it will read the same way like in recovery. Tried numerous batteries with the same result. Although I havnt tried battery calibrating. Ill give that a shot.
Is there any solution ??
Try klect's solution and go into recovery, wipe battery stats. Then let your battery drain and die. Then charge your battery back to 100% with no interuptions like pulling your phone off the charger too soon. When you wipe your batt stats you are getting ready to recaliberate your battery. After you let it charge to 100 percent. Let it drain to 0 a couple times to recondition your battery.
You do know that the evo 3D gives around 3 hrs of screen time dont you? even on stock rom on normal usage. If you have the wifi on all the times you'll get around 2:30 maybe 3 on a full charge.
Your battery certainly is draining faster than usual but have you tried keeping it idle and seeing what kind of drain you get? From that screenshot in the other thread it seems like your phone is getting some heavy wifi browsing or something (and do check if facebook or email apps are the culprit. Having push email on drains a lot)
And the recovery/rom reading wrong stats happens all the time. just recalibrate your battery like these good folks here have already suggested
Yes i keep wifi on all the time...
But once i kept my locked for abot 3 hours after full charge...when i unlocked it showed 99%...i was happy and i didn't do anything just surfing my screens it dropped very very fast to some 70 % !!!!
Also please hit our thank you buttons please. Even if you didn't get the exact answers you wanted. It's appreciated for helping one another.
you really should check your apps battery usage using one of the apps ramjet73 told you about
ramjet73 said:
There are a bunch of tips here.
Usually that kind of drain is caused by an app. Try running a stock ROM for a day or two and see if the issues go away. Or use one of the battery monitoring apps (BetterBatteryStats, SystemPanel Standard, Battery Monitor Widget) to determine which app is causing your drain.
It may take some work on your part to isolate the problem since there is no global solution to battery problems.

top culprits are mostly facebook, email exchange, google maps and pretty much anything that syncs alot
Also try using you phone on min brightness auto brightness is also a battery killer
