They just released a new hulu for 7 tablets, including TFP and when i went to play a video i got the error message "streaming unavailable [91]"
sorry we are unable to stream this video. please check your internet connection, ensure you have the latest official update for your device and try again.
I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader on the .15 build, not .21
do you think this is the issue?

Works fine on .21. Why not update?
up until recently updating was not available to people with unlocked bootloaders, but someone made a zip of it and it works great btw and so i used supersu to retrick my root and my root checker did not say i was rooted (cause i was) and i reinstalled hulu plus and still have the same results, sigh. i would say this problem is only going to be for people rooted, running custom roms and unlocked bootloaders, i am going to do a full unroot and report back if i have success. It did not... help?

Same problem here. I am also rooted AND unlocked
what is your location ? Hulu plus works in united states only.
I am in Tucson AZ
hulu sucks
Im having the same problem. Hopefullysomeone comes out with a mod for root soon!
Nj. And I did a full unroot with no success. Sigh. I got all unlock boot loader happy ever since I bought my gnex..... I wish I didn't for the prime. Root was enough

I have the same issue on the motorola xoom streaming error 91
i mean, does hulu not have a programming team that works on this type of thing? i still dont have hulu on my nexus either
Has anyone found a solution?
I am still having this issue also. Has anyone found a fix?
Wasn't there already a thread for this? Anyways my Hulu plus is fine. I have no issue running it.
Rooted and on .21 locked BL.
I think that we have determined that it only doesn't work on TFP's with unlocked Boot Loaders.
I am bumping this...
Would love a workaround for this....
Super annoyed that they basically have blocked it on unlocked boot loaders...

It works. Its when you use highly modded ROMs that hulu won't work. I had success using hulu with a stock ROM, but still rooted.

listen guys, hulu plus is NOT working with unlocked bootloader. When you unlocked it removed some DRM files. We need dev to modify the application in order to make it work. It stills work if you only have root, but not unlocked bootloader.

Looks like they moved my original link so this is a direct link http://suipre.com/8310b8
If you download from the link using your prime use chrome browser. Stock browser didnt work for me.
There is an update in the play store after this. Do not install it or you will be back to not working.

So, I finally got my Transformer Prime TF201 after long waiting.
Sadly I am not able to root it due the latest update from Asus (.21).
Since my tablet is unlocked/virgin, I would like to offer my help finding a new way to gain root.
Since I am new, I am not allowed to post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526487, so if somebody could let them know, that would be great.
I have quite a lot of experience with Linux administration/configuration and software development.
So do you have a new exploit?
Do you have a working proof of concept?
If any of the answers are No to above, dont bother, everyone else is in the same boat.
Still waiting for the exploit. If you have found it, I think you can discuss or PM to Mod to post into the DEV forum.

I have a virgin Transformer Prime and wanted to offer my help in the hope it might be helpful. Reading many threads here about it I got the impression that most of the devs do not have anymore an unlocked device.
Clearly I do not want to unlock it right now. But am willing to test/try out experimental stuff.
I read here very recently, by a dev I recall, that since the unlocking tool is available and once unlocked you can get root, you have that option. They continued saying no dev wants to burn an exploit just to have it shut next update. You have to pay to play, meaning sacrifice support from Asus by unlocking.
I tried to find the post and supply a link to reference but failed on my mobile to find it.

This tool was only made to make it easier for everyone to root. I did not come up with the root methods, I just made the tool based on an existing root method. What people need to understand is that, from a dev perspective, with an unlock available it really doesn't make sense for a dev to work on root for this tablet for a few reasons...
1 reason is that Asus seems to be the most frequent updater of any OEM I've ever seen. There is no doubt that they read how we got root and intentionally fix it in the next update or two. This leads to problem number 2... using a root exploit that gets fixed and then becomes known and leads to other OEMs patching and making future devices harder to root.
I understand that people may think "oh well, burn a root exploit, we just want root!" Sorry, devs aren't going to think of it that way when you have an unlocking method. That's just that way it is. Honestly, don't ever expect root on .21 because it may never happen.

And a similar statement prior to that one.
-viperboy- said:
I've said this before but I'm not sure if you'll ever see a root for it because you can unlock. No one wants to work on a solution that is going to get blocked in the next update and burn through an exploit. Unfortunately, you have to pay to play. If you want root right now, you need to unlock the bootloader.

But aren't they android exploits, not Asus? Your comment doesn't make any sense to me. If an exploit is released, it will be for specific version(s) of android. Even if ASUS patches it, the exploit is still IN android. Nothing is 'burned' until Google patches it.
My comment is only based on the quotes provided by someone who I assume knows volumes more than I. That means I know little but try to help, by posting, when I feel I can help.

I suggest we set up a bounty for root. I would donate a bit to the one successful in rooting the latest update. Anybody else in???
Well, I can explain you why I think I NEED root access:
I have a Nokia N9 as mobile phone. It seems only to be able to provide Ad-hoc wifi tethering. Now, as I understand, Ad-hoc tethering got removed from Android 4, and the only way to get is back is by tools which use root access.
Without internet connectivity my Prime is worth only half
But since I only have it a few days, I do not want to void 24 months of warranty just because Google dectates it.
Please proof me wrong if there is another solution. I also tried Bluetooth DUN, but the phone seems only to provide OPP . Also USB networking seems not to be supported by the Prime.
Secondly, I WOULD LIKE to have root because there are many cool and useful tools which need root.
I am a Linux user for many years and feel very confotable in the command line.
Having a Linux device but not having the root privileges over it is just a shame.
I am not demanding for a rooting tool. I am at home in the Linux system, so any cryptic instuctions would be enough for me.
I also would pay for a working tool/instructions!

What?
Update to .21 and try again with that tether... Don't forget to backup su.
I have already the .21 build, else I would have root by now
But I now seem to have successed!
When I use the JoikiSpot on my N9 with no encryption, it seems not to work. The Prime always onlay sais "saved". Now I tried it with WEP128. This is almost a useless encryption, but now the Prime is able to connect to the internet.
So I am very happy right now
As a site note: with an iPhone 4 as tethering device, it works also fine without any encryption.
Not sure if this option can work for you like it does on my LG Revolution, but get WiFi Tether and set the profile to LG Optimus and SoftAP. My (rooted) Revo then acts as an AP, not AdHoc.

The N9 and N950 (which I use) are not Android based, but Maemo/MeeGo. Thats a great Linux based Operating system for tablets/phones. Sadly Nokia and Intel droped it, so it has no future. How ever for me its the right thing, because I now have a Linux based mobile phone with root rights with which I can do almost what ever I want.
Sadly JoikuSpot does not provide many options for tethering settings.
i dont know if the guys over at androidforums can help since they dont have a prime. they rooed our samsung prevails tho and one of them ported cm7 and cm9. im not sure if they are willing to help tho.
I don't know if it would work, but OTA rootkeeper is able to keep root and bring it back after updates : I have a prime rooted after update with it while still locked - for now. Anyway, my point is rootkeeper seems to backup some files and then restore them after the ota update. Would it not be possible to find what these files are and mount a script or instructions for anyone having .21 unrooted prime ? People could simply download OTA Rootkeeper, get those files, put them back in their proper place in the prime's folders and then restore and be done with it.

Does this mean we will be able to flash custom ROMs on here? Or does that require the unlocked bootloader?
If you can flash custom ROMs, what exactly does an unlocked bootloader provide that root doesn't?
Sorry I'm just a newbie about to pick a Android phone (don't have a smart phone), and just trying to make an informed decision.
No, root by itself doesn't enable custom roms. You might get jumped on for your question because a noobproof search would tell you that customer roms need a custom recovery, and that requires an unlocked bootloader.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader for custom roms in all cases . My xperia x10 got some custom roms before the bootloader was unlocked.

Root won't do that by itself. Did you debloat/uninstall some apps? There was a report in the general OG forums that if you uninstall any of the Google apps it will trigger the LG security lockout. Freezing them works Ok, though.

Did you RMA your TF201 before? I did because of WLAN-problems. They changed the WLAN-board so that the MAC-address of this board didn't fit to the rest of the device anymore (ASUS.TW-hq-support told me so). Because of this tablet-ID/MAC-address-mismatch the unlock wouldn't succeed. I always received the well known "network error bla-bla" message using the ASUS-unlock-tool. MAYBE unlocking could work as soon as you are able to change/spoof the MAC-address of the WLAN-board.
I had to RMA it back again to let them change the MAC-address so that I was able to unlock the tablet without any problems. But pay attention - I've heard that sometimes ASUS wants some cash for doing this job (~ 100 Euro + transportation). I was "lucky" because the WLAN-port again was broken and I pleased ASUS to also change the MAC so that it fits to the rest of the board.
Good luck & regards,
Roy

I want to install the TWRP 2.5 and i read that if you load the wrong bootloader version of twrp you could permabrick the tf201....
Haw can i determine my bootloader version?
By now I'm on cm10 nightly rom...
I already found the answer after much searching and am already rooted and on a custom rom.
If the Nvdia logo at bootup is at the bottom right of the screen, you are on Jelly bean bootloader. Else, if it is below the Asus logo, it is ICS.
Hope this helps.

If you have the ICS bootloader still then do the nvflash process first. It can only be done while on ICS and will make you brick proof.
Once you upgrade you can never do it again.

I had the same problemas you. I RMA'ed my tablet for something and when it came back the unlock tool would not work not matter what. It gave me that same error: "unknow error occurs which may be a network issue. please wait and try again later."
I couldn't figure out why it was not working except that some poeple who RMA'ed could not get it work. Your explanation makes sense. Now I need to find a solution. Do you have any idea it is possible to change the MAC address without sending it back in? My warranty has run out anyway. I did acheive root with the new motochopper method. But this will not allow me to get TWRP or other custom recovery (meaning I cannot change the rom - which is what I really want to do) until I have unlocked the bootloader.
I hate how slow this device is with stock rom. I know it is capable of so much more. Anyway, If you have any ideas how to get this Mac Address and ID to match with root but locked bootloader I would love to hear.

For the moment, yes. Attempting to return to a previous stock ROM, even via ODIN, will fail - I tried this myself last night. ODIN hangs on trying to install the last part of the ROM (the bootloader, if I remember right). If you do try to use ODIN to restore a stock ROM, you will need to run a repair install of the 4.3 ROM (you'll lose all data on the phone). Fun stuff.
So in short, we're locked & unrooted if we update using the official update via Verizon's update software.

Damn. So I am completely willing to wipe everything. I already have everything backed up. If I am willing to have everything wiped, is there a way around it, or just wait for the good folks here at xda to stick it to Verizon

You can try to root with kingo (google it, xda won't allow links to it) but you may be out of luck on unlocking the bootloader again unless someone finds another exploit.

I saw references to kingo, but it looked sketchy. Can you tell more about it, and perhaps why XDA doesn't allow links?

Nothing I can tell you that you can't find searching for it. Plenty of conversations about it already. No need for another one really.

Thanks - I did find a lot threads. It does look sketchy, though nothing definitive.
Unless someone has found a root method for one of the other Samsung 4.3 builds, you better go out to your nearest wholesale store and buy the jumbo size of Vaseline.

Kingo works on Note 3. Obviously different device but in theory it should work.

I did an OTA of 4.3 on my Note 2 already and was able to root using Kingo, no problems.

Ditto here. Though trying to flash a recovery (say, through Goo Manager) trips the Knox counter....and fails to boot ('unauthorized software' message)

Yup. Bootloader is locked. That's why there's a sticky saying not to take OTA's.

Aren't both the S4 and N3 4.3 builds rooted? Maybe you're thinking bootloader unlocking???
After OTA my n2 lost root.
I can also confirm, that Kingo roots the N2 after taking the Verizon OTA, but the bootloader remains locked. For me acquiring root again was great, because I use the Xposed framework a lot and many other apps that need root. As for the bootloader, I'm sure that sooner or later, one of the great devs will kick butt and get it unlocked. For those guys that challenge is like an itch.

Wouldn't bet on it. S4 and Note 3 are both locked and will likely remain that way. Never say never but the likelihood is slim.
You're right and honestly as long as I have, root I don't care much anymore. If it happens great, if it doesn't ok. Sooner or later we will upgrade to a new toy. Lol

No issues at all after using it. However, kingroot will install its own superuser app and I have not been able to replace it with supersu (It should be possible with a custom recovery).
Root works fine without supersu but you could try following these instructions after you root if you want to get rid of king root: http://www.yomitech.com/2015/02/how-to-replace-kinguser-with-supersu.html
I got root failed with king root?!?! edit: I used kingo root and that worked. You know if xposed works on this tablet.

I forgot to mention that I did not allow the software update to run before I used king root. That could be the only difference between the 2 tablets. I won't try Xposed until we at least get a custom recovery

I hope there's some development for this tablet.
Have had mine since release and I love it I own a Nexus7 2013 and it is as fast as that one , it so far has handled all the emulator games I have thrown at it like a champ I have loaded N64 games and some NDS games I got and has played them great. Also I love the fact I was able to add a 64GB micro in for extra storage well worth the 199.00$ price tag!
Got rooted with KingRoot and later replaced with SuperSu
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61168022&postcount=30
Didn't try Xposed yet, but should work under SuperSu
Give exposed a try and let us know if it works. Thanks
I used King root and it worked just fine...until my son used it and did an update. Now it is bricked. Here's hoping that it becomes popular enough to have its own forum and someone creates a decent ROM for it.
For the price it has good (enough) resolution, color and speed.
Have you tried holding power and volume up for about 10 seconds to get into recovery and do wipe/reset?
I did. I can get into recovery, did wipe and restored factory but nothing. It looks like the files created by kingroot were not compatible with the update.
BTW sent a PM

Thanks. I will.
I just got this tablet and it's pretty f'n sweet. I want to do my usual Root/ROM dance but I am not gonna touch it just yet. I am gonna wait until there's some real dev work (done by trusted devs) behind the solutions.
