Can anyone help me to understand better about this driving mode available in SGS2? What are the main features in that and how can we use it 100%. I tried for some details but could not get anything for this..
i want to use driving mode also.
but sometimes it reads the contact names and sometimes it doesnt. sometimes it just reads the contacts phone numbers.
i thought it needed internet to work but ive noted it reading out sms senders even when offline.
also
so yes how does it work? and why is there such a discrepancy in how it operates especially with regards to sms (which is what i use it for). does it d/l files from the internet or does it have a built in database?

I gave up on sideloading an App for texting on my Sony S tablet, so!
I am using Heywire free texting, I have all the notifications set to let me know when a text comes in. But it never notifies me of incoming texts.
Anyone know of a better texting program that we can use on a Sony Tablet S or how to fix the Heywire?
Oh yes I am running Android 3.2.1
Thank you
Sandy

Text Me
So far I like the Text Me, but again no notifications. I have the Wi-Fi set to never turn off even when the tablet is snoozing. I have the notifications turned on in the Text Me program. Still no notifications, what could I be doing wrong and the volume is turned up too lol.
I like that the program has options like larger fonts and things that part is great!!!
Thank you in advance
Sandy
I bought textab a while ago and its amazing!
(I can't link to the market as I apparently have the stink of noob on me. Oh well, google time for you lol)
There's a lite version too if you just want to try it first.
** edit- with textab you just use your current android phone #. With both devices connected through bluetooth you get all texts on the tablet instead.
It works great and I'd reccommend it to everyone, but its probably not what you're looking for.
I use MySMS which texts through your phone. It links using wifi
You should also be able to send texts without a phone using Google voice
I get notifications from both
I just installed heywire, and I get notifications just fine. Maybe there is something wrong with your tab.
I've been using Tablet Talk, and it's great. You can connect via wifi or bluetooth. When I get home in the evening, I connect my tablet to my Evo 3d, throw the Evo in a cradle, and don't touch it until morning. I get notifications for texts and phone calls through the app on my tablet. I'm curious how other apps compare though. This is the only one I've tried.

Mysms doesn't do phonecall notifications. I'm going to check out tablet talk
Any one else try textab and find their wifi constantly drop and connect until you disable textab/bluetooth

A few days ago I bought a device called GMATE ($80), a type of smallcell without display or keyboard which is inserted a normal simcard and communicating via Bluetooth to the Samsung Galaxy Player, which means an application is integrated with android, receiving and making phone calls, and SMS, in addition to allowing internet access GPRS.
It's a perfect combination that increases the possibilities of Our Player
IPhones must be jailbroken, a repo is added to Cydia, and then the Gmate app is installed for the integrated Gmate functionality. How does this work in Android?
In GooglePlay you can download a Gmate aplication that integrates the gadget with your android player (also convert your android phone in a double sim phone) and uses android phone's features like dialer, contacts, or any thirtd party aplication likes rocket Dial.
Received and Make calls donĀ“t need special features, if you uses the Gprs/edge to internet (in places with no WIFI) need to be rooted.
The application is not compatible with my U.S. 5.0 Player.

Go to skyroam webpage and ask for a .apk file, i have Intl 5.0 and working great, sometimes any aplication in GooglePlay seems to be incompatible for my SG player but, on a external apk source works fine.
Dutch 5.0
Thank you for the info! I will definitely buy one if it works in The Netherlands.
That does look interesting.
Anyone using it with the USA version?
Is there something similar that i can connect it to my player or to put it in the galaxy player? So this wey i dony have to worry if i get out of 10 neters or jf i fodget it at home

Wow, wonderful find. I was looking for exacly something like this. Unfortunately, With ICS CM9 installed on my GP5 Bluetooth doesn't work =( (neither does the camera or hardware acceleration. They really need to fix that.)
So I can make phone calls/sms without having wifi?

With the Gmate app, can your SGP connect to a regular cell phone with bluetooth or it can only connect to the Gmate?

Gmate only.. I tried it with my other android phone and it doesn't work.
I came further when I changed my phone's Bluetooth id to "Gmate". It didn't connect because of a password failure
It's seems good
I don't quite understand... So besides buying the Gmate, would i need a sim card as well? secondly so would i practically be using a sim card with a data plan to use with gmate? but wouldnt that defeat the purpose of just using a smart phone with a card in it?.... these are all continuation Q's if the first is a yes lol.
This seems like a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. How well does the device actually work? Does it keep a connection throughout the day, sending and receiving text messages without too much delay? I'm considering using this to replace my old dumbphone, but I'd rather not plunk down a sizable chunk of change with little indication as to how well this thing actually works.
Gmate calling speaker sound
Question: Does the sound come out of the front speaker while calling?
(I don't like to call everywhere with loud back speakers)

I don't know about GMate, but on Groove IP (and probably others), the front speaker on the 5.0 is quite functional and is used for calls.

EDIT: I HAVE FIXED THE MAIN ISSUE WITH MY GMATE, MORE INFORMATION BELOW
Well, my Gmate+ came in the mail today, and I've been playing with it for a little while now and am able to give first impressions. First off, the device is much smaller than I imagined, it easily fits in my palm, the vibration (on the plus version) is very loud. As for the function itself, it works. You can call and send and receive text messages (haven't tested the web access yet) with a few minor (and one major) annoyances. My device is currently a US SGP 4.0 running Terrasilent 1.1 and EtherealRom 2.3.
Minor annoyances I have found with the Gmate+:
- Notifications (read: texts) do not make noise/vibrate while the screen is locked. Once the screen goes on, if you do have a new text, it notifies you, kind of ruining the point of the notification.
- Text messages you send have proper time stamps, for some reason, the ones you receive are off by a few hours, as if the sender is in a different time zone
- Seems to be no way to delete contacts from the address book, even uninstalling, wiping data, reinstalling didn't do anything about this.
Major annoyance with the Gmate+:
- It disconnects, and by that I mean it disconnects ALL THE TIME, the device is pretty much useless because of this, it will be fine for a few minutes, then disconnect, regardless of how close the Gmate is to my SGP. Every few minutes, I'd check it, and guess what? No connection. Sometimes it would reconnect, sometimes I'd have to manually do it, sometimes I'd have to restart one or both devices to get it to work again.
Seeing as everything the device does it actually does quite well when actually connected, I want to rule this problem to some battery saving tweak in my kernel/rom. As such, I'll be returning to stock and trying the Gmate again to see if any of these issues are cleared up. As it stands, I have a 75$ paperweight that buzzes occasionally.
EDIT: After flashing back to stock and noticing no change, I began searching around and found other people having similar problems with similar devices, mainly connecting their smartphones to the bluetooth sound system in their car. Turns out in Deep Sleep, the device has issues keeping constant bluetooth connection. After downloading an app (Bluetooth KeepAlive: ~$1.30) on the market that keeps the device from entering this mode, the Gmate no longer disconnects, and has remained connected for several days, having no problem with calls or text messages at any time. In summary, with this app, I am now happy to recommend the Gmate to anyone who is looking for this kind of functionality. Guess it goes to show that non compatible apps are listed in the Play Store as non working for a reason
Hi all
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but as it's a general Android issue i thought this was the best one to post in.
I have had this for a while since i have been using ICS Roms and I wondered if anyone else has had it
I use a abacus Bluetooth watch which among other things vibrates and displays when I receive a sms
Sometimes I have noticed that if I get a sms it displays on the watch but it does not appear on the phone at all, not in the message app or notification bar
But weird is that today it happened and as I saw the text on the watch but again it did not appear anywhere on the phone so I sent a reply and straight away their 2nd text appeared as normal so it's not even down to a certain contact
I've checked all settings that I can think of and it can't be anything to do with the watch software as that only displays what the phone receives
I used to have ARHD installed until I Tried Elegencia and have had the same issue with both, maybe it's a ics issue ?
I have posted this in the Rom thread but thought that this may be a wider issue
Would love to hear if anyone has the same issue
Thanks
My Truesmart comes in on Wednesday and I'm thinking about grabbing a data sim and using this for calls, anyone know if it works?
https://www.phonnix.com/mobile/
is working fine
Hi, I installed Phonnix Lite because I#m very curious and still want to have a companion app.
Have to install Phonnix on both devices, Smartphone as host, TS as client. I actived it, for call and SMS forwarding.
Unfortunately, you get no direct message displayed on TS, but you get al logbook an there all call and SMS activities are logged. But you need a SIM card in both devices.
Also you get an E-Mail notification for incoming calls and SMS.
Not really a functioning compananion app, but for free ists a nice gimmick. The advantage is: no pairing and connection via bluetooth necessary and you get the notifications even when you forgot your smartphone at home or you are aout of bluetooth range.
Thx for the tip.
Maybe the pro version is a little more comfortable.
Hope this helps, you, guy.

You rock! Thanks so much.
I guess I just need to find a good way to get data in this thing to check for sure. I wish I could put it on my mobile share.

tested it for a while.... its extremly draining the battery. In thelite version for free its necessary to reconnect with your email data, longest time is 12 hours. not funny to type the data on the TS keyboard.
If you want to have a permanent connection, you have to buy the pro version
will think over it if there is no companion app or oui 2.1 with companion integrated in the next 2 weeks.
I also tried tablet talk but is not functining coz of bluetooth issue on the TS
EDIT:
I installed the pro version for about $ 2,50. Now I have a connection between smartphone and Truesmart. When there is an incoming call on the phone, the TS also is ringing. Nothing else happens, you cant accept or reject the call, but that is a big step to a companion app.
So I get my calls and SMS displayed in the Phonnix logbook, and the TS rings.
So I understand it right, there is no BT connection necessary. For the time the TS is connected with the internet, it will ring at an incoming call on the phone even when this is turned off.
There are some time restrictions for the phone as a host device, but now, logged to my gmail account on the TS as client is permanent.
Very, very nice & smooth....
I will test it for some days and if anybody is interested in my experiences, I will post.
Hi there! Great stuff!
I'm the developer of Phonnix and I'm very much interested on getting some feedback.
I didn't really tried in on smartwatches so I'm don't even know if it works or not but the idea is quite appealing
Did you try the latest version lately? Lots of improvements there!
Looking forward to hear your feedback!
Cheers,
Paulo
