is it possible to flash i777 with hong kong region i9100 rom? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I've gone through the forum and gone through the read me guides and looking at faq and q&a forum and I'm not able to find an answer so I'll post my questions here.
I've read through and am able to root my phone and got CWM on it.. i'm able to make a backup of my phone's data as well.
The reason I'm asking about flashing a hong kong i9100 rom is due to the fact that this phone will be used by my mom and she'd like to be able to have similar settings and set ups from an international phone. I know there are options out there to buy international version but the $10 deal is difficult to pass by.
Hopefully someone can point me to the right direction... (another reason for hong kong version is due the use of traditional chinese vs simplified chinese)
android version 2.3.4
baseband version i777uckh7
kernel version 2.6.35.7

You might be able to with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335377

You can use Hellraiser as long as it a GB rom. I don't think Entropy has released the ICS Hellraiser yet...

Yeah i was looking at that but i wasn't sure where to get the correct rom and was wondering if anyone had done it... and may be what else to watch out for...

So she lives in hong kong for using a hong kong plan... or jist needs the language?
If just the language then you can hellraise it as said before with a rom that has language. if you need a different data plan then you hellraisr but leave out csc file from hellraiser zip

@rdannar she's here with me in the US but just wanted everything to be like a hk phone..
@entropy *worship* hmm sorry how do i go about doing that? was a bit hesitant since i dont want to brick the phone and read up more before i flash it...
guys would it make a difference if i want to flash it and so my dad can use it in hk..? but i still need to test it in the US to make sure it works - how do i go about doing the testing..?

First thing is read up on odin and flash entropy dd kernel.tar. he has one in his dev thread. now you will have cwm recovery. then if you do not have root then flash root zip in Same thread. go to play store or market and download mobil odin. flash the GB firmware with language you need BUT DO NOT FLASH A KERNEL OR MODEM. THEY ARE CLEARLY INDICATED IN APP. then after install go back into cwm and install hellraiser zip.
For languages in rom look up intratech roms... He has them all and clearly labels languages etc... He is in i9100 dev thread.
If you make it through these steps just ask and we can talk about csc for your dad

It'll set all the language defaults for United States, and also I'm not sure how the APN settings in the CSC will behave on carriers other than AT&T.
The best solution is to use a local CSC appropriate for your region/carrier. But you can probably manually set up all of the differences.

3a.) How to Install a customized kernel containing ClockworkMod Recovery onto your Rooted phone from your phone, using Mobile Odin Lite or Mobile Odin Pro
This is the preferred method to install a customized kernel onto your phone. In addition, Mobile Odin is a very useful tool that will allow you to install custom software directly on your phone without using a computer.

... using Mobile Odin Pro...
Download the file containing the kernel you want to flash, and extract from it the zImage, which contains the actual kernel. There are several kernels available which can be found in the AT&T SGS II Android Development forum.
Transfer the zImage to the root of your phone's internal or external sdcard, using a usb cable or another method such as dropbox.
On your phone, open the Mobile Odin program. If you installed Mobile Odin Lite, when it prompts you to install the add-in, click cancel. If you installed Mobile Odin Pro, you will have already downloaded and installed the add-in to activate all the features in the program. With Mobile Odin Lite, you will still be able to install the kernel.
In Mobile Odin, click on Kernel or Install Kernel, find and select the zImage on your internal or external SD card, and then click on Flash Firmware.
Mobile Odin will flash the kernel and then reboot the phone. You have now installed a custom kernel containing clockworkMod Recovery without changing the flash counter.
If you want to confirm installation of the new kernel, reboot into recovery to verify that you now have ClockworkMod Recovery. (The stock kernel has 3e recovery.) Or install CPU Spy from the Market (before you root) and compare the Kernel Info it displays with the same info from the stock kernel.
To reboot into recovery on the SGH-I777: With the phone powered off, hold down the vol up + vol down + power buttons continuously until the initial boot screen appears a second time.
The 5.0.2.3 and later versions of ClockworkMod Recovery have a different button configuration. Home = select, Back = back, Power = back from submenu or toggle logo/main menu. The 5.0.2.7 version of ClockworkMod Recovery retains this button configuration but changes it to Power = select.

Similar boat - Need Thai Rom on I777
Hey sorry for jumping in here but I have a similar case.
I have a SGH-i777 that I flashed with the official Thai files for AIS service:I9100DXKL3_I9100OLCKL2_I9100DXKL1 Ver 2.3.6
I used Odin to flash my phone with the official Thai 2.3.6ver.
Everything works except a few things:
No sound or mic on incomming or outgoing calls
Return button and search button on phone don't work
and Home button acts like return button.
So I flashed my phone's baseband with i777UCKK6 thinking that would solve the problem but it does not.
My question is, can I use the Hellraiser procedure to solve this problem?
Hellraiser only works with roms right? So is there anyway I can use the stock Thai 2.3.6 and hellraiser?
Thank for your help and suggestions!

[Q] Some questions about CSC

Hello xda-developers this it my first post, but it will be more and I will try to help you.
I have a SGS2, bought from Romania, but the CSC code is "XEF" which probably means that it was imported form France. Now I want to change my CSC in "HAT" or "COA" according to my country but I don't want to lose my warranty.
1) There is any method to do this?
2) If I will find the CSC files, flashing only this with Odin is possible and if yes I lose my warranty? I only flashed AIO or PDA,CSC,BOOT files in the mean time on my second phone,Samsung i5700, but never only one of those.
I tried with CSC Selector from Play and with Preconfig code, but my phone have no Multi-CSC, it have only "XEF".
My SGS2 informations:
PDA: I9100XWKJ2
PHONE: I9100XXKJ4
CSC I9100XEFKJ1
Thank you very much for your answers and sorry for my bad English
no need to change it unless you need something specific in that csc.
I want to upgrade to ICS via Kies, but in Romania the update exists and in France it doesn't... That's why I want this

Just flash XWLP8 Frankenstein with Odin. Kies is a complete piece of crap. Uninstall it right now and just leave the samsung usb drivers.
The aforementioned package already includes everything you need... and it's official... and it's newer than the package you are planning to flash ; )
@bala_gamer: I will look forward CSC files and just flash them with Odin... But is it possibile? My device is not rooted...
@victorator: Doing this I will lose my warranty...Am I right?

Go into settings->about phone and write down what you have now.
Worst case IF you ever really need to get warranty just flash this package...
End of story. The link I gave you gives you the newest official ICS rom, non-rooted. It doesn't increase the custom binary counter (that's how they check if you messed with your phone) and it is official. Just flash it.
Ok, I didn't know that I can put the phone into download mode and flash a new firmware without increase the counter, thx

The only thing that increases the counter is flashing specifically a kernel via Odin that is not signed by Samsung.
This is why flashing some ROMs won't necessarily increase the counter: If you flash a ROM that includes a kernel that is signed by Samsung, it will keep the counter at zero.

That kernel is posted just in case you need it, if you flash a custom or insecure kernel, and want to flash back to stock. If you don't flash a custom of insecure kernel, you won't need it. Wouldn't hurt you to download it anyways though, again, just in case you need it later.

When you go into Download mode, it will display a count if you have ever flashed a non-Samsung signed kernel. If you have never done so, it will not display a count at all.

You'll have to install CWM recovery to do this... which means flashing a kernel NOT signed by Samsung, which means increasing your counter.

[Q] Newbie --India --Three Network mobile -- Basic Questions

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.

go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...

i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.

@Snipe,
That's the change list number for UCLE5, so he almost certainly has stock UCLE5 and wants to root it.
@saravanan_ganesan,
Flash the pre-rooted UCLE5 from here. Please pay close attention to the warnings in that thread, as you already have the dangerous stock kernel installed on your phone. Whatever you do, Do not perform a wipe data/factory reset either before or after you flash the pre-rooted UCLE5, and then follow the instructions to replace the stock kernel with a known safe kernel.

I was thinking he got it from your thread and was already rooted. Is there any you can extract that kernel out of the package and replace it with a safe one? If I can help with anything let me know....

The package must contain the stock kernel in order that the flash counter is not incremented. Any custom kernel would increment the flash counter.
So to root stock UCLE5 without incrementing the flash counter, the only two options are to use this stock plus root, or to flash Gingerbread stock plus root. Either option is as safe as the other as long as peeps follow instructions.

I already gave you the link. Read and understand, and then flash that.
You evidently do need to do some more study. It's much better when you fully understand what you are doing.
The root files, superuser.apk and the su binary are injected into the system partition and repackaged as a flashable tar in the UCLE5 stock plus root package. Thus, you will be flashing the full ICS version all over again, just like you did before, but this time you will have root access, and can then proceed to install a custom kernel, to debloat, to back-up files, and whatever else you want root for.
Edit: If as someone suggested, you have already flashed the stock plus root package, then you are already rooted. Look in your app drawer for the SuperUser application. If it is there, then you are rooted already.

It's only a .tar file of a kernel. U could also flash it with mobile Odin but since he doesn't have root he can't. He can download it from any source he wants, I've done it countless times. Now if it were a firmware or rom of course I wouldn't advise using any other site besides xda. But if it makes anyone feel better just do a Google search for i777 .tar kernel or i777 .tar siyah either one would work. The idea is just to get him off the darn stock att kernel with the brick bug. He could also just flash all the way back to stock with a one click from the download repository. I'll remove the link though, just to keep everyone happy. Good luck all, happy flashing

Phalanx7621, thank you buddy!! Much respect for you seeking out trying to help someone.... The problem I see is knowing how many headaches he has caused XDA best to stay away from anything he has touched... I have never seen a 3.4.3 Siyah .tar kernel (I could be wrong here) but that file you linked came from him stright from him so that means he repackaged it and who knows what he did, best to just stay FAR from it..... Once again much respect!!! :good:

Thanks.

Search the forum for the answer this is a common problem. You will need Odin. Since you have bricked your phone install a custom Rom and Kernel. You will not go back to stock!!

What firmware was you using when this happened. You've sounds like it's recoverable. If download mode is all you can get your probably get best results by downloading official firmware from Sam firmware and extracting it then flashing the zip file in odin via PDA section. All the best.

I don't remember exactly my firmware but it was 4.0.3 and I haven't installed 4.0.4 but I did have CM10 just before I did restore from CWM and now I did factory data reset, this happened.
I prefer stock ROM, but I don't mind custom ROM either as long as I can get back to stock ROM

Flash a stock Rom via Odin. Wait till your phone boots up. Go back to Odin install a custom kernel (i recommend siyah kernel). Backup your stock Rom, then install a custom Rom. There is a lot of tutorials to tell you exactly how to do this process. If you need help at any point of this process just send me a message and I will give you a detailed walkthrough. You should be fine though!!
Goodluck

How about from the intratech's thread? And is the Odin flash failing risk big with the situation I have right now?
I've used odin A LOT and never had a problem. I only ever use the PDA section and never touch anything else because I don't understand it. I can't comment on intratechs thread as I've never used his software. Any custom ROMs are normally flashed via CWM.

[Q] Help! Soft-bricked. How can I return to stock Chinese version?

My model is i9100G ZCLPI
I have the zip file I9100GZCLPI_I9100GOZHLPI_CHN which I downloaded as a backup. Is this the ROM or the kernel? It contains a tar file over 500 MB so I guess it is the ROM? I tried to flash the tar file using Odin but it never works.
Where can I find the stock kernel and stock ROM?
When I boot now, the screen shows phone--[!]--computer. The yellow exclamation point.

I downloaded and flashed the stock firmware already. I guess that's what I9100GZCLPI_I9100GOZHLPI_CHN is. I am going to try again from Sammobile, but right now their search is not functioning.
Firmware should be a large file about 500 MB uncompressed or 250 MB compressed, right?
First check if you can access download mode using 3 button combo..
You can only flash the firmware you want via Odin.. (as stated above post)
Always always do a nandroid backup before flashing or updating firmware.. always keep a nandroid backup in your sd card..
Oh yeah always backup imei (there are tutorials in xda or google search)

It just reinstalled stock firmware!!
Usually it hangs at setupconnection. I let it go for almost an hour before with no change.
I still want to flash another ROM on it because the Chinese version doesn't run Google Apps. Any advice? It first soft-bricked when I flashed it with MyGKernel.

I should have done a backup in the SD card. But since I couldn't install any file manager (no access to Google Apps on Chinese stock) I just downloaded the stock ROM, backed up my contacts and flashed a new kernel. For some reason when I tried to restore stock it didn't work, many times. But just now I restored to the same stock file, no problem.
Can I do a nandroid backup without using software from Google Play?

I just verified I can use the phone, send text messages, and my contacts info is still in there. Seems to be running properly.
I'm not sure that MyGKernel was the problem. I just tried it because I found someone on another thread used MyGKernel on their Chinese i9100G successfully.
What should I be looking for if I want to root and flash a compatible kernel/ROM? Should the kernel be ZCLPI compatible? LPI compatible? Most kernels / ROMs seem to be incompatible with the Chinese model.

To root it must be compatible with your firmware..

Root your device with the tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679778
You should be able to backup your present ROM, flash whatever you want after rooting.
Apart from Google play store issues, is there any other reason why you want to flash another ROM?

edit: I'm going to root the phone first by the tutorial Jokesy linked to.
I'm unclear on the issue of compatibility. Should the kernel match my currently running version of Android 4.0.3? Or should I flash a kernel which matches the version of Android I want to install (4.1)?

Ah, so it is the rooting step that is the main hurdle. I will follow the guide you linked to. After I root it, I can install CM9 or AOKP or whatever as long as it's for the i9100g?
My main motivation to flash another ROM is to get access to google play, google calendar and skype.

Custom kernels are dependent on your Android version.

We posted at almost the same time. I'm trying to get google play, google calendar and skype working.
I have successfully followed your instructions (thank you! :good and my phone has cwm and is rooted. Now I am wondering if I should just install google play .apk or try to flash a stock ROM from say, Taiwan. Which may have google play on it, I'm assuming.
Do you have any advice on how to install the google play .apk? I have a vpn set up on the phone already, so I should be able to access it once installed.
