I dont know if you guys feel the same, but I just have an urge to mess up with my phone so much, install themes, play around with roms, change settings, find out about hidden settings, anything that makes me feel that I can, just for the heck of being able to do it, and I want more and more!! what about you? do yo feel the same way? are we weird or what?
No, we're human. Don't ask Steve Jobs about customizing, it doesn't compute.
//need more input.
Is this necessary for the development section?
yes very much
My name is Mark, and I'm a phone junkie.
lol, phone junkie, nice term for our sickness, jejejejeje
Yes, I suffer from this as well. I actually still flash ROMs on my Droid, just because I miss being able to do so. It's one of the few things I miss about my Droid. I hope we see Voodoo tonight or tomorrow so I have something to play around with.
Count me in with this group.
I may reactivate my incredible just to flash stuff.
Fascinate oc1.4 for now
Lmao, I'm the same way. I got this phone last friday, but I haven't rooted yet since there isn't much yet to toy with for it. I'm going nuts. I have an inactive droid and my wife is using my incredible. I flashed roms on those phones almost daily. I've got a serious case of withdraws.

We are such sick people, needing to flash stuff on our phones
I was like that with my droid eris I never backed it up or anything I was a risk taker
Till I bricked 2 of them... But luckly I lied to verizon and just said my screen wont turn on and they sent new one
I too have this disease the only difference between me and you guys is that I can quit anytime I want to. i just dont want to. OK?!?!?
But really I miss the daily ROMs maybe we could make some placebo ROMs you know they wouldn't really change anything but they would be there for those of us that just need to flash something lol
I too am a junkie when it comes to this stuff. I came from droid 1 and even with it inactive I flash stuff over wifi nonstop since we don't have much on the fascinate yet. It's an addiction!

The cool thing about android is that you can't really brick a phone cause you always have resources like RSD, and Odin at your disposal. Now when you do brick its because its your fault, you did something stupid and deserve a bricked phone. Its your fault cause you did something stupid and deserve a bricked phone. Sorry had to say that twice cause it was worth repeating.

yeah, is kind of scary when somwthing goes wrong and the phone wont boot, or is stuck in the boot screen, your heart starts to accelerate, your mind starts to work really hard, and when you fix it and you see your home screen again, you feel like some kind of power, or realization that a stupod phone wont beat you

I really need to be brought up to speed on HTC development. I'm coming from a Motorola Droid x2 and I thought development would be the same but its totally different. I don't even know what the hell s-on or s-off means. I'm going to be receiving 2 new rezounds for my wife and I and I'm going to need to get them rooted, updated to ics, and new roms flashed on them. My Droids bootloader was locked down so our devs just worked around the kernel. Anyone know of any tutorials or anything that can help me out and bring me up to speed on the lingo and what (if anything) I should not do with these phones? Also, looks like they are being shipped to me running 2.3.4 which needs to go! Thanks!

Story, one more question from the FNG, is there really that much of a benefit to wait for the official ics to be released? I'm getting the new phones today or tomorrow and I'm somewhat impatient. I can't stand bloatware. Sorry if I'm asking obvious questions but I know once I root and install ics firmware I can't go back if there is a release. Thanks.

You can go back if you're S-OFF with a RUU.
For the time being, you can flash a few different ICS leaks which are close to the official OTA but that's the beauty of modding our phones, you can even stay on Gingerbread and flash ICS ROMs and run fine with a patch as well.
Having problems with s-off. Using controlbear but everytime I attempt to begin program it says connect device and install drivers. Thi is very frustrating. Would like to actually get to the wire trick

Sure you have installed the HTC Sync drivers, and gone through the whole HTC Dev Unlock process properly? And make sure the option for USB debugging is on in the ROMs settings, plus Fast Boot is off. Check basic cabling and whatnot first too of course. Try a clean run on another PC if all else fails.
Thanks for the help!

Okay, so, I pretty much have everything set up perfect except does anyone know how to change boot animation? Running clean rom dev edition and when I use rom toolbox to change and install new animation then reboot, it just shows the regular clean rom boot animation so the change isn't sticking obviously. Thanks

Hi all.
My wife's phone recently played out for the third time within a year (D2). When they replaced it this time they sent her a completely different phone.
Well she liked my DX2 better so I got the other (sam strat) phone. I had planned on moving to another phone in the not so distant future but looks like I got moved sooner then I thought. (Still gonna get a different phone in the near future)
The DX2 community on here is incredible, and I am sure that goes without saying and everyone of you guys and gals know that! I will miss my phone and the community but it's time to move on I suppose. I wish you all the best, I am sure I will stop in from time to time to check up on things.
DK, your an awesome Dev. and I think more so then that you seem to be a super guy from what one can get to know someone else through communicating over the internet / forums. Thanks man for all your time and effort!
GL all.
Don't be a stranger and be sure to stop in from time to time. When I got my Gnex, the thought crossed my mind that I may not frequent the DX2 community as much. But I just can't let it go. Other areas here on XDA just don't offer what is abundant here. By far the best on the web, hands down.
Best of luck in your future endeavors...neighbor!

Had my fun on the X2 from Eclipse to CM7 and CM9 so I know whats what with the device as well. So thats a +1 for me as well. Guess I will see you over on rootzwiki then? They have a forum for the Stratosphere. Rooting+flashing isn't so bad once you learn how to use odin. It's definitly a lot easier rooting the x2, but oh well. Still stuck with 2 or 3 roms too which are all tweaked versions of stock because the radio interface layer is locked by samsung. They say we're supposed to get ICS(only reps, no official updates), but won't give out any dates or anything. Oh well.
I reccommend tweaked 2.2. Pretty awesome!

Hi guys, I am very new to the Note 2. I just unlocked and rooted the latest ota using Casual. Thanks to Adam Outler and everyone else involved. So my question is which ROMs are compatible with this ota? Basic question I'm sure. I came from the Razr and the kernel had to match so I assume its the same here? Anyone willing to shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Any rom you want as long as it is in the VZW Note 2 threads can be flashed ours arent locked down by what update we are on because our bootloader is unlocked where it isnt on Moto phones. AOSP roms require AOSP kernels as TW roms require TW kernels. The roms come with kernels though so that isnt something tk worry about unless you I want to.
The only thing to remember is if you go to a 4.2 rom and want t I go back to 4.1 you have to flash a downgrade zip so your SD card doesnt become corrupted. You can find the downgrade zip in the Official CM 10.1 thread in the OP.
Check out Droidstyles guide in Android Development, its a sticky, it explains quite a bit and would ne helpful to you I think.

Thanks for the info. Exactly the answers and info I was looking for. I just flashed CleanROM and went through the flashing process. When it got to the end and said finish to reboot it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Couldn't get to recovery or download mode. I had to pull the battery and then turn it on. It went straight to the new ROM though without a hitch. Is that a normal part of the flashing procedure on the N2? The battery pull I mean, or did I miss something?

Thats not a normal thing to happen, but it does happen occasionally. As long as it boots up after the battery pull I wouldnt be too worried by it. I have had it happen to me before and after the battery pull I experienced no issues whatsoever.

CleanROM's good. It was the first ROM I flashed when I got my Note II too.
Eventually though, you may want to switch to something more feature-rich like Jelly Beans, which is what I'm rocking now. The features it adds are pretty awesome and you get full touchwiz functionality (S-Pen and the like) with the look of AOSP.
DL'ing Jelly Beans now. Gotta make a new TiBu before flashing though. Will give it a go shortly. My wife fusses at me sometimes cause on my old phone (Razr) and on this one I am always flashing different ROMs. She especially hates it when she calls and my phone goes directly to voicemail cause I am in recovery flashing a ROM or kernel.

Hi all, I'm feeling like a n00b on the Note too, and really appreciate the help all of you seem to be willing to share with each other. I'm not new to modding phones, recently I've been through an S3, DNA, RAZR HD and M, and even another Note 2. I made the mistake of swapping the Note 2 for an iPhone 5, and regretted it about thirty seconds later. Now that's my wife's phone, and due to the grace of another (local) xda member, I'm back rockin' the Note 2. This time around in looking forward to getting into some serious flashing and tweaking to get the most from the hardware. I've decided this is Verizon's best phone at the moment, with everything I need.
Don't worry, you're not alone in having a wife who gets annoyed at flashing and tweaking. Happens to me all the time, but I use the excuse it's one of the few hobbies that I have which doesn't involve the rest of the family and I need a bit of alone time. It kind of works as an excuse until the point where I need to use it again.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and wanted to say hello.

I like jedi X rom...I got 3 days off my battery with just the right settings...my recommendation is to not mess with the per app dpi for the settings app because now I'm stuck without a settings app and about to switch roms...just about any rom will work as long as it's for your carrier... Best of luck!

Beans is the best! photosphere camera (page 1 of forum) works great with build 16! Check it out! Also, I agree about Jedi: definitely magic battery settings. Enjoy your new hobby! My wife is the same way.
We're in second place in overall threads and as far as the amount of posts, we're in 4th place, but still. While I know this doesn't represent ROMs, it does show activity, and we're not a ghost town. So, please, stop complaining about the lack of development here on the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 forum. We're as active as can be at the moment.
Agreed. I think you and all the Dev's are doing great. Learned a lot about the phone and ODIN just from the developement going on. I appreciate all the hard work.
Agreed. This is a niche phone, and still the quality of the development here is strong, and gets better by the day.
Best to dig in and enjoy the things this phone can do as opposed to what this community lacks.
Easier to complain, I suppose.

Thank you for the post freeza, the quality of what is available now is top notch. The Note 3 is already an amazing phone, so for you guys to improve it so much is a commendable feat to say the least. I appreciate all of the devs hard work and really anyone contributing in a positive manner. I know the latest onslaught of self entitlement won't ruin it for the rest, but there had been a growing sense of it in here lately.
Even if it's not necessarily an entitlement thing people just need to respect what is currently available and be grateful for it.

Not a complaint here. .. I'd also rather have quality over quantity! I wanna thank all the great devs that are here making things happen. I know for a fact that there are great things on the horizon. ...1brainsurgeon has acquired the n3... skunk ape is working on his rom! Things are coming along we just have to patient!

Always here to squash trolls, and back up those who need it all in the name of development, so I say carry on to those in here who are committed to continuing on for the Note 3.
When I first got this phone and came here I thought about development being slow, but then one dude pointed out that the quality of this phone from what I came from is night and day and there was a reason for there being so much development in other forums - - pretty much because the phones had a ton of issues and this one doesn't... Still reading and doing reasearch on Odin, looks simple though, I've always had HTC phones.
