Gizmodo at it again - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

lol this guy sam biddle hates the note...
http://gizmodo.com/5897516/an-open-...fused-people-who-bought-a-samsung-galaxy-note
"the stylus is antiquated to begin with, and doesn't even work well—but the prime offense? It's just too f*cking big. Unless you have abnormally large hands, you can't hold and use it like a phone."
that's funny, 5 million people would disagree with those statements.
Go Note!

Poor guy. Can't believe I actually read the whole article. Haha
The Note fits in my hand and pockets just fine.

This guy is a troll and all his articles referencing the Note are trolljobs. The Note fits in my pockets just fine, and I've never had an issue with it being too big to hold(i'm sure his gf would say something similar about him).

troll articles are what the editors want though... think about it.. it invokes an emotion from you, whether good or bad, it still gets you to read the article, click on links, look at ads, etc.
it's why there's always that a-hole on morning talk shows that you hate SOOO MUCH but you can't stop listening to the show

If it had an Apple logo on the back it would be praised by Gizmodo as revolutionary and amazing. iGiz generally has pro-Apple bias in most of what it writes (I've noticed this with the TechBlock as well, especially if you've ever listened to their podcast). I expect these kinds of "articles" from iGiz, so I'm not so shocked.

This is the absolute truth. If Steve Jobs had waved this phone around, everyone would be worshiping him for creating a middle ground device between phone and tablet.

Thirding that jobs comment. They love their Iphones ... simple as that. If apple came out with it , it would be god to gizmodo. Same thing if they came out with a 7" ipad... they would say it is about time companies did it and more should follow...

Seems like Gizmodo is still trying to win Steve Jobs' forgiveness even after his death.

Seriously, I'm sick of his stupid articles, even in something totally unrelated he posted about the note, I guess they want to generate traffic out of hate? I have removed gizmodo from my RSS, about time.

Gizmodo has gone down in quality big time in the least couple of years. This article was the last straw for me, I deleted them from my RSS feed.

I posted this on my Facebook wall (hey, I just don't post the good stuff, I can post "bad" as well) LOL!
Wow, I hardly ever take anything posted on Gizmodo seriously, this is one of them, but I DID find it entertaining at the very least.
Even if I don't totally agree. Just because 5+million people (world wide) bought this phone, does not mean that it will be the defact-o standard at all! Samsung went into this area KNOWING it was going to be a Niche Market at best. They got lucky and that Niche was pretty big.
Other manufacturers are jumping on this bandwagon to make their own "Phablets", but the demand (on a global scale) is so small in comparison to the mainstream handsets that they will not suddenly abandon the "normal" sized handsets and just go huge.
Oh well... This guys always been a tool on here with his articles, taking things out of context to twist to his own agenda, it's just now comical anytime he writes something.

That dude would make a great totalitarian, lol.

OK. That article is exactly what the category says, a rant.
Not even a good one at that.
So, instead of adding to his page, I'll make a comment here instead.
An article like his is not worth responding to. It's best to just ignore it as a rant.
Now, I have said it to people who have enough sense to recognize a great phone!
Let's continue to enjoy our wonderful phone!
Oh, btw, if you feel like responding to such an article, make sure that you add something like the following comment at the end:
"Sent from the best smart mobile device ever to date, the Galaxy Note!"

I'm actually surprised that so many people from the Android community still follow Gizmodo.. Jesus Diaz had a nice anti-google streak going last year too.

I'm done with gizmodo. Sam Biddle is a moron and a dickhole. Not even just because of his hatred of the Note. But for that and every constant "article" he posts.
And lastly, if the Note doesn't fit into his pocket, he should stop borrowing his little sister's Jeans.

Gizmodo is horrible. Jesus Diaz and this guy kill it for me. They've got apples shoved so far down their throat that they spew apple chunks every time they write an article.

Zach at BGR has issues

This is seriously the most bias review I have ever seen. He basically hates the phone because of the size and claims that it's not for anyone except Basketball players. Really?
Two local AT&T stores are currently sold out on this device. It's clearly selling. Zach should probably give up writing reviews and stick to opinion pieces.

Is this the same review we discussed here:

Yeah the initial review they did was pretty garbage, par for their site I guess, that's why I don't waste my time with them.
yeah the initial review was the "I've seen worse" lol
this is the same as seen in another thread. bgr are iphone fanboys anyhow.
unless you own an iphone there is no sense in even visiting that site..besides i think all the reviewwers there have freakishly small hands like the BK commercial..

Careful with the short man syndrome stuff... I got some small hands, am a short man, and would not give up the Note for anything! Why would I? I can use a tablet with any problems, I should definitely be able to use the Galaxy Note...
you know i honestly wonder if apple pays for sites like that.
Oh I dunno...he did stick with that stupid "they'll laugh at you". And if you're a fanatic of wanting to easily do things with just one hand, maybe the Note isn't for you. But almost the entire review was him praising the Note. I think the only other thing he was critical of was he wished they'd made the screen more smudge proof like on the S2.
But he did say if you wanted a large phone that would attract attention or a small tab, then this was def the phone for you. So I'm not exactly how biased against the phone he's being like Geller or whatever his name is.
I will say that this phone does indeed attract attention. My high school and middle school students were freaked out when they saw it on Mon and Tues. And the fellow teachers all wanted to play with it. I had it at the gym and a lot of people that saw it came up and asked what it was. A large percentage of them really liked it and were thinking about getting one because of the large screen to browse the web, play games, and work with files, etc.
I think not being able to text neatly with one hand is well worth all the benefits of this phone.

I meant no offense..
I'm believe the fact that I can't do a lot of things one handed easily as a bonus now. More times then not it simply stops me from using my phone when I really shouldn't.
Unfortunately, we are still living in an Apple world. It seems like more and more people are switching, and realizing that they've been duped into having a company tell them what's best for them. BGR is still under that company's spell.
This review wasn't nearly as bad as Johnathon's, but complaining about the size of smart phones nowadays is getting ridiculous. I could understand if it was an enormous brick, but it's more thin than the iP4.
Basically at this point, it does help to make a list of websites that are Apple-infested...and to avoid them completely. Obviously each click to their sites benefits them..so yeah.
I didn't bother opening the article...but seems like this other BGR guy also said no ones gonna buy the Note.
Based on 3 nearby at&t stores that I stopped by, they're currently sold out. When I asked them what kinds of people bought it, they said surprisingly iPhone people made the switch cuz they wanted the extra screen estate that's offered.
It really was a pretty fair review all the way up to the "size" paragraph. It will be hilarious looking back at the biased "journalism" of BGR and other iphanboi sites when the Note is finally recognized as a truly trendsetting device in about a year.

Then I guess you missed his comments on how he got a fulls day use out of one battery charge and how gorgeous the screen was and how fast it was and how nice the hardware looked? He actually listed a lot of good things about the Note.
And I don't see where he actually made fun of a person using the phone. He said it would attract attention and that it was a phone made for a basketball player but he never insulted anyone that would buy the phone. I think he even said if you shrunk it down about 20%, so that would drop it back down to around the 4.3/4.5" mark. So he's not exactly against phones larger than the iPhone.

From his original "review" and his dumb comments on his twitter account, I honestly think he just threw in a couple of positives after taking so much heat for his original assessment so that he could look less biased. Just my opinion/theory.

The Galaxy Note exudes a coolness factor/Samsung did an awesome job advertising this

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...llion-galaxy-notes-hopes-10-million-years-end
If you seek attention, I'm sure you will find it.
Seems as if you either walk around waving this phone in the air or you are doing something to draw attention to yourself.
Its only a phone dude!
I get a kick out of these type of threads. I used to read them on the iPhone forums and laugh, but it seems the same type of people are here as well.
Probably a bit of an underage issue a well.
I've been using the latest phones and tablets for awhile now and have never had anyone come up to me and ask me about any of them . Those that say they constantly have people coming up to them at obviously seeking attention.

I got the note cause I'm fat and needed a big keyboard. So far the only ones to ask me about it are my close friends. Never have I had someone cone up to me or stare at me because of this phone.

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

i don't know about the Advertising
but after using it hands on for a few days I'm addicted, it's so hard to get back to my T989
I get a lot of looks, and some comments. mostly "is that a phone???", "is that the one with a pen?", or "Is that the Super Bowl phone?" (referring the commercials played at the Super Bowl).
I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.

The lame response by lindenhurst has inspired me to share.
Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

Sure, it sucks for Samsung. But a lot of what Apple went after them for at least made a little sense. Samsung blatantly copied Apple in many situations. And even if there were examples of prior technology that fit the case, Apple was able to show that Samsung intentionally copied Apple's work instead of basing work off of said prior technology.
Before we start a circlejerk of people condemning Apple and all of its employees to hell, please realize that this was a legitimate legal decision and the people who made this decision put a lot of thought into it. I'm not happy that Samsung lost either, but I also believe that they lost for a reason.

This major win with a major competitor will only give birth to a whole new round of suits and new strategy that will probably lead to us being phucked over. The realization of apple being a monopoly is becoming ever more true. You think the bs we had to put up with when our EVOs were held in customs was crap, just wait. I see bad things heading our way. I know Samsung copied apple. We all said that awhile ago. But jeez, if the courts will agree with apple that a rectangle with rounded corners is copying, then what does that say for us?

It's not like Apple is going to be able to go willy nilly on other OEMs now. They don't have the resources for that, and if they keep it up, Google will eventually step in.
Exactly that's what I'm saying...apple isnt gonna stop at this..google is gonna need to get involved..which it looks like they did with the Motorola suit..everyone knows moto is an ip bank..

As much as I love Android, I kind of have to agree that some of the devices that Samsung were making did look like iFails. Hell, I think Touchwiz does. I will say though, that Apple suing anyone for stealing ideas when they themselves have done so repeatedly in the past is just bs.
Here's the break down of what was infringed. Placement of home button? Thin frame with rounded corners? Serious!? I'm no Samsung fan, but for the sake of our future of android devices I was rooting for Sammy.

That's like saying the dump you took today didn't smell as bad as the one you took yesterday.

[Q] A Good Day For Samsungs Sales

This is a discussion about the Gs3's future sales after the announcement of the most popular phone on the market, there have already been numerous 'comparison' threads closed, lets not turn this into one of those.
After today's underwhelming announcement of the iPhone5, the people sitting on the fence about whether to switch to the Galaxy S3 or Note2 (or something else) have to make a decision.
I've been reading comments on Android fan sites, Apple fan sites, and 'Neutral' tech sites, and the general feeling I got from all of them is that the iPhone5 just hasn't done enough to persuade a lot of people to stick with them.
Now, obviously, this thing will sell like hotcakes for the people that don't know any different to make an educated decision / that actually like the iPhone anyway / have bought too heavily into the apple ecosystem to switch now.
But those that are in the know, like everyone who watched the olympics... the S3 was plastered all over the place ... and the people that were keeping up with the patent trials (anyone who reads the news) will now know that there are better offerings out there and most likely opt for a Gs3.
So, do you think we will see a significant boost from the already 20m phones already sold?
.
Samsung has done a wonderful job with the SGS3 and I'm sure the sales will keep up for some time, but it's not easy to convert Apple fanboys to Samsung. I don't think the sales are going to rise much further. The iPhone caught up pretty good (at least in the eyes of casual users).

Even those that have been sitting on the fence the last couple of months to see what Apple has to offer?
Also, a personal insight, my mom and sister got a gs3 shortly after release, and genuinely with no persuading from me. They aren't tech heads, but they knew a class phone when they seen it.
The guys waiting for today to make their decision i think will go galaxy.
i think so, seen people taking 99$ deal on amazon right now
it will not be huge spike but there is going to be one.
for me the new iphone disappoint
no new tech or old favorites like fm radio, xenon flash, still LCD and only 4'
i mean 4.5 would have been fine
I wouldn't under estimate the loyalty a large percentage of smartphone users have towards Apple. Most of us probably had an iPhone at one time and moved to Andriod because we expanded our knowedge to include other smartphones and made an informed decision. There are a lot of people that don't realize there are options and will still buy the iPhone 5. Not sure if they will sell 20M after what I saw today but I have learned to never under estimate people with loyalties...

My boss wanted to buy the iphone 5. He is very loyalty to Apple. But he started liking my S3. He already have doubts about buying iphone or not.
My mission: convert him into an android guy and wake him up to the reality

Of course, they'll sell shed loads. But the huge advertising campaign with the Olympics, the recent trial and those already on the fence should have the gs3 planted in their heads! I think Samsung will steal a good few of them.
Htc might get a wee jeg too if they get in the news regarding the lte patents (if that even happens)
Exciting times for sure.
I've cleaned up the mess fellas. Please remember to be polite and let's not get too far into the "you know what" discussion. :highfive:
A guy named John Pirsig (sp?) wrote a book titled, 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' a couple of decades back. In it he proposes there are 'Romantic' and 'Classical' people. He and a friend rode across the US (in the book & maybe in real life) on bikes. He had a Harley and the friend a BMW. (patience, it's coming... ) When they rode up the Rockies, the bikes started playing up and while he stopped and worked on his bike, and finally realised it was the reduction in atmospheric pressure needing just a tweak to fix, his mate went and paid a small fortune in a town garage to get his BMW fixed.
Pirsig talked for a bit about those who want an end-result experience and those who wanted to enjoy the journey. Some people forever focus on the end result and miss all the learning and fun along the way, 'big picture' people for whom the nuts and bolts are a horror to be avoided at all costs - literally in the case of his BMW mate.
At the time, as a Helpdesk person, I realised most Mac users are Romantics, people for whom computers are very much NOT fun and who use them solely to get a result and because they have to. Windows users were often some of the same sort, using Windows simply because their work said they had to, but far more of them would, if the subject was explained in terms they understood, become interested in the process and learn to fix their own printer/Word/Excel issues etc.
Apple have polarised the world again with their same-old, same-old tactics. The recent court case against Samsung proves Apple have not lost their litigious attitude towards protecting things they stole in the first place. (WIMP from Rank Xerox) And again we are shown the division between the Romantics and the Classicals - these forums are full of Classicals - look around and you will see lots of people who post about how wonderful this or that version of a ROM is, only to upgrade instantly a new version or even a different ROM comes along.
For most XDA'ers, I think the journey IS the end result - we tend to be travelling along with no particular goal in mind apart from a nebulous 'perfect phone' concept, and if all the developers stopped producing new ROMs to try we'd be heartbroken.
The Apple is good enough for most Apple users, be it Mac, iPad or iPhone. We will never convince them otherwise because they have sipped at the Kool-Aid fountain and like most religious people, they cannot even SEE the contrary information. It doesn't matter if the new iPhone has an A5, A6, A15 or quad or dual, it will be better in their eyes because it powers an Apple. They don't MIND buying expensive corsds ands connectors of all kinds because it is for Apple.
And they definitely don't see an ongoing development process as being a thing of benefit - Apple has spent far too many dollars convincing their world that you don't ever upgrade your device software, you just buy a new device. It is the proud boast of many Apple users that their product is far more stable than Windows, but my old enemy Microsoft constantly produced product that would work (most of the time) on any PC made across a spread of about 10 years, while Apple only ever made software for a very specific hardware platform - if you like, MS made an OS while Apple made glorified Firmware.
The same scenario is happening right now with Android. Android is being made to support all kinds of devices, with a legion of eager supporters providing updates and fixes. (on more of a Linux model than a MS one) Apple will not produce an iOS6 for their old phones, just for the brand new one you have to pay a small fortune for. Samsung (and other Android vendors) are producing updates so you get more life from your phone, providing a level of support to their clients Apple has never tried to match.
And eventually, the numbers will tell - just as in the PC/Mac wars, Apple had to compromise in both hardware and software, (Intel chips and running Windows on Macs) they will find eventually their tactics fail them. In my opinion, Android is the up-and-coming world of phones and pads, and Apple is the dinosaur relying desperately on massive programming... sorry, I mean advertising to keep their victims... I mean customers, loyal.
I think there will be a swing away from Apple as the actuality of the new phone falls far short of expectations and even the glitz Apple will give things will not hide the fact that all they have done is copy what is already being sold for hundreds less. But don't go expecting those weaned on the Kool-Aid to be coming over any time soon - the religious always resist the encroaching reality checks of the real world.
And on a personal note? I LIKE Apple for their litigiousness and mean spirit. If they had been sensible back in the late 80's/early 90's, we'd all be using Macs and locked down so tight I wouldn't have had a 25 year computer career helping others. For more than 2 decades I've had a job description of, 'I'm a bloke, and I fix stuff' that would never have been possible if Apple had treated their customers as anything other than sheeple to be fleeced to the maximum. Their greed allowed PC's to develop and become what we see, and now Apple's greed and contempt will allow Android the space to grow and become the new ubiquitous OS for mobile devices.

*grins* In 1987 I bought an XT clone (1MB Ram, twin 5.25" FDD's - envy of the few I knew with PC's because I could put my programs floppy AND my data one in at the same time ) to write books. I was sick of having to re-type a page or more just to change a sentence. 3 months later the PC got me a new job supporting WPO's at 3 grand per year more than I was getting. and I still haven't written my SciFi books. Working on it now and of course, along comes bloody Samsung S3 with Android and I'm fighting against techo distractions again... le sigh...
Forums like XDA will help greatly with selling Android; some older members need to recall that they once didn't know stuff but mostly folk are very helpful and there is a LOT of info to be had here. Mind you, it suffers a bit from popularity - search for something you want to know and you get like 5000 threads to look through. Needs an Advanced Search function, or maybe I just haven't found it yet. And why can't I search on the entire Samsung S3 forum? le sigh...
I think the reaction from a number of sites about how the court case showed Apple users how they could get everything Apple offered for far less if they stepped away from the Kool-Aid spigot shows an interesting facet to the competition. I haven't seen such comment before, even for Mac/Pentium battles. Usually it was about the differences, not the fact you could get the same thing. It could make a difference, particularly if the members here make a point of posting such a view on any/all forums they are members on.
5th column... the ONLY Army to join...
It is surely a good day for people that knows stuff from the gadget world but for common people they are still awed no matter what. The power of Apple's marketing can even turn a pile of scrap metal into gold.

Just goes to show how smart iPhone people actually are.
They just buy it because their next door neighbor has one and they wanna compare to them or feel better.
Fkn idiots.
I'm sure they took out the people who were smart enough to notice and not just blindly assume its a new superior phone. Most of those people look confused and I'm sure they just didn't want to look like they're out of the loop
This was an article I just saw . Total fluff piece saying how great the new iPhone is, when really it's playing catch up. They brag that iPhone users can now take panoramic photos lol. And apple says Samsung copies. SMH

This. Using the magic of video editing to prove a point is great, isn't it?
All in all, I gotta say it's a beautiful phone. One aspect of Apple has always been great design. Two pieces of glass has in fact proven to be an ignorant decision, but damn if it doesn't look good. Still it does bother me to see so many people happy to see outdated features. I had canned sms and sms reply (call rejection) well before I ever owned a smartphone. The panorama? I have quite a few nokias lying around that have more then a reasonable amount of vacation panoramas. LTE? Poor Steve, he really believed it was too early and I'm easily swayed by his argument considering that all major providers are still in the middle of expanding lte coverage. So what if android got it first? How many of you can actually use it reliably and not as a "look what I can do" moment. NFC? Again, Steve Jobs believed it was too young of a technology and thus an unnecessary impact on performance (however small). Look around, how many reliably working nfc terminals are in retail? I have two gas stations that support nfc, but only one will accept my evo. The phone is nice, the quality definitely appears to be a step up from the previous, it finally has features that bring it up to par with the cellphones I had in the 90's. I still don't like Apple products, I don't think a certain incomplete (yes, even Andy Rubin has admitted it's far from what he considers finished) linux based operating system is any superior. I like my particular phone and it suits me for the time being. I will never understand why so many people take such pleasure in seeing ill-informed people who's more rational sense of being is being obscured by vanity.

It's still funny, even if it is edited. Especially the ones holding the same phone in their other hand.

Yea but as I said before, a few of them seemed to be confused initially. With a camera documenting your reaction to the phone, and quite possibly being a publicity stunt for the latest product. Would you want to appear a foolish rube out of touch with technology? It appears to be vanity more then ignorance or stupidity.

I totally agree.
You may be right, they could be vane. They could just be techno-stupid. I would have to attribute it to Apple's superb marketing.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
They do have a reasonably aggressive marketing strategy. The beauty of it, is that it does not appear aggressive at all (lawsuits are not marketing, although in Samsung's case it could be)
OMFG. I saw this and it just clearly shows how ignorant and stupid a person has to be in order to operate such a silly device.

All in all, the iPhone is a nice device, as to simply put it, "it just works". I recommend them to my non tech savvy friends that don't tinker with their phones and want a device that "just works". Different strokes for different folks... You will never see me carrying an apple device, EVER!
