EVO 3d GSM boot loop - HTC EVO 3D

hey guys im hopeing u guys could help me im new to the android revoulution but i love my evo 3d and i decieded to root it.
I used revolutionary to root worked well i acheacived s/off also and i installed a lot of roms and was useing infected eternity rom for the past month and was working well.
two weeks ago i saw a thread for a red theme so i downloaded it and insalld it through ROM MANAGER i use rom managaer because since i rooted clockworkmod dosen`t respond to any comande it just goes a black screen with a hat and nothing works.....so after i installed the theme phone got stuck in a boot loop and since then i can`t do much execpt get into fastboot...
since clockworkmod is not working i wanted to flash a new recovery.......but i don`t know how to do this through fastboot because it seems that u must install the file on the root of your sd card, well i cant access the sd card because i when i plug my phone it doesnt appear on the comp like a «d« drive or «c« drive i guess its because the phone cant get to the regular ui or something anyway if u have a suggestion please let me know thanks
also i was wondering what recoveries actually work with evo 3d (gsm) cuz its seems that most like team win or (twrp) only work with cdma so if u could point me in the right gsm direction thanks

[Q] rom manager crash

Got my e3d and loving it. managed to use the phone for nearly an hour before discovering that I am no longer satisfied with an unrooted phone lol.
Anyway got root and clockwordmod installed via revolutionary but when I try to use rom manager it tells me I need to flash clockword mod .
when I try to do it through rom manager the phone just siezes up and I have to remove the battery and do a nandroid restore to get the phone to be able to boot again. Not great as removing the battery cover on the E3d is a pretty nerve racking process and feels like too many times and it will break.
Does anyone know what I can do to get rom manager working please.

Had the same problem unfortunately I had no backup
Rom Manager has no GSM Evo 3D. It contains so far only CDMA EVO 3D.

ROM manager doesn't work even after u hv revolutionary recovery installed because It's dependent on clockworkmod recovery, however, u cannot install clockworkmod recovery on the gsm EVO 3d, so ROM manager is essentially useless for now on EVO 3d, correct me if I'm wrong

[Q] Cant boot phone

I have looked and looked, cant find what I need to do. I own an htc Thunderbolt on Verizon I am new here, recently got it rooted and flashed Das bamf with sense 3. I was messing around with clockwork mod and tried to change the font on the the phone and it crashed. I cant get it to load past the white htc screen. I can get clockwork mod to come up and I have tried loading a couple different recoveries I had found on here. I have a new one coming tmrw frm verizon thanks to a friend that works there. But it isnt broke it just is stuck at the white htc screen and wont load Android. What do I do? ANY help is greatly appreciated.
Also I cant seem to find a step by step of what should be done with Clockwork Mod before flashing a new rom.

Bricked after Booting new ROM in Boot Manager Pro

I was running infectedROM Sense 3.0, and I had successfully set up several other ROMs via boot manager previously. Today I just installed Playground ICS to an SD slot through boot manager and I backed up my phone ROMs boot img and clicked reboot to playground. The phone rebooted and showed the splash screen. After about 10 seconds on the splash screen, it shut off and won't turn back on. No charge light, regular boot and vol down + power both don't work. All I need to do is get to recovery, then I have to flash the update.zip for my phone ROM in the bootmanager folder. Can anyone help me get into recovery or the bootloader?
edit: I installed playground by installing the zip, and I didn't install any other mods/kernels on top of playground. On the other ROMs I have installed in boot manager, I installed them via a nandroid backup.
If you look through the last few pages of the Playground ICS thread, it is an issue and can be fixed, but its not that easy unless you know what you are doing. I hope you have a linux box.

no problem. You might want to post anything further in that thread, you will probably get more help over there. But either way let us know if you succeed.

Do you know how many times I tried to brick this thing when I was downgrading? I almost gave up! And you do it by accident? Lucky you
Edit... Sorry bout your luck, hope all goes well.
no luck so far, I opened windows sda13 thru sdk13 and none of them found the device. i guess i'll reboot and try sda13-sdz13 lol.
Just took my phone to a sprint store, after about 30 min the repair guy came back and handed me the phone. He told me he doesn't have the tools necessary to fix it so I need to come back tomorrow, but he said I'm going to have to lose all my data in order to get the phone working again using his method. I hope the emmc_recover works tonight, or tomorrow I'll probably have hboot 1.5 and s-on
Is it possible that emmc_recover won't work because I'm on the engineering hboot?
I just realized I should probably post in the downgrade hboot thread, so I'm doing that now.
EDIT: fixed my phone flawlessly, the only reason it didn't work the first time is I forgot to pull the battery before plugging it in. Thanks again for your guys' help!
Post-trial of ICS Playground
w0rd,
I had the same problem with my EVO after playing around with this as well. For all others that may have this problem here was my solution...
Symptoms:
After trying to re-flash from ICS Playground to another ROM my phone was stuck at the HTC splash screen and would not do anything. I restarted into recovery and was unsuccessful; even tried to recover to my original files and after that it passed the splash screen and then the screen went black.
Resolution:
Finally used fastboot into recovery and flashed another ROM and it worked. Morale of the story use fastboot from your computer to get into recovery and Flash your ROM.
Hope this helps...

I appreciate the reply. However, the problem I had was with one specific release of playground which bricked my phone once installed. I couldn't boot into recovery or the bootloader; the screen wouldn't turn on no matter what. Fastboot won't work from this state. The only way to unbrick at that point without going to a sprint store is to use the emmc_recover tool that's part of the hboot 1.5 downgrade process (in case this happens to you or anyone else, you have to follow step 3 ONLY in the downgrade process in order to recover from bricking your phone)

Just curious. How do you know it was a specific release, and did it happen to anyone else? Do you know the cause of it?

The links netwokz provided above showed me that it was a specific release. TwistedUmbrella was experimenting (and I downloaded the experimental ROM, not one of the more "stable" releases) to try to get usb mount to pc to work, and something was wrong in the build I downloaded because it wiped the emmc so I couldn't boot to the phone, recovery, or bootloader. Basically, the ROM bricked my phone in the same way that you're supposed to brick your phone when downgrading from hboot 1.5. Luckily, Twistedumbrella is a great dev who helped people who bricked their devices out. In case you're worried about running into the same issue I did, the build that bricked me is no longer online, as he's updated the experimental and regular download links.
I know it was a specific release because I wasn't the only person who reported this problem. I think it was the 1 am experimental build from 03/22. Anyway, I'm now downloading twistedumbrella's latest experimental. Back to the ROM flashing game
With boot manger they say you must be running the same os as your phone rom or you could brick it. If your phone rom is GB I would recommended running GB roms instead of ICS roms

I haven't had any sort of issue from running an ICS ROM in boot manager while running a sense 3.0/3.5 ROM as my default OS. This reported brick was caused by one specific release of playground ICS that would have bricked my phone in the exact same way if I just installed it through my recovery instead of through boot manager. Boot manager wasn't at fault here.
This thread was resolved several days ago. Can I close this thread or something? I've never tried to before so idk how to go about doing that...Well in the meantime, I guess I can just hope nobody else decides not to read page one before posting...

[Q] Roms boot looping

Hi first off, this is my frist post so I'm sorry if I make any errors. And if so PLEASE correct me/
Device: HTC Amaze 4g (mobilicity) S-off SuperCID and have Juopunutbear Hboot 193.2222
I REALLY don't know WHAT I did wrong.....I hope someone can help me.
Every rom I install in 4EXT Touch Recovery or TWRP Either boot loops ot it actually boots properly but the rom has no soun at all Some roms vibrated some didn't...I've tried (So far that is) "ViperRom 1.4.1, "NightmereSense 1.6", And SpeedRom 7.9. I still have a backup of a Telus 2.3.4 rom and it boots and works fine, so does the mobilicity one (I hate the boot animation and sound on the Stock Mobilicity rom which is why I like the telus one0 If there's something i'm missing, or have forgotten to mention up here for you to help me easier, please tell me so! Also the phone is Sim Unlocked, as in I used a code for it so it reads any GSM Sim...I thought maybe that would be a factor but I hear it's not...
Thanks in Advanced to anyone who read this and tries to help me out!
The problem may be that the kernel is not being flashed.

[Q] cwm recovery boot loop, will not acept a rom install :S

Hi all
ok so i'm a bit nervous writing this expecting all manner of attack in that i may be posting something that's been posted before lol, i've been working on this phone from start to finish about 9 hours, over two days..... i've googled just about every combination of words to do with the title and everything in between but nothing seems to come close to what i actually need to do as nothing works
i have an LG Optimus 2x / p990, it had ICS on it but was far too slow to handle this, it needs something a bit less hardware intensive to run smoothly, so i went ahead an found cyanogenmod stable ...... 7.2 i installed sdk after an hour of finding out how it works i finally got adb and fastboot working, i then needed this, that, this, that, etc etc etc.....
to cut a 9 hour story short, i've managed to get myself to the point where i wiped the phone of everything but CWM partioned for ics via the AIO software but CWM will not let me install any ROM onto the phone. to be more precise it says i have installed CM 7.2 successfully! (i've tried this via the CWM via external SD card and sideload) i reboot the phone it's as if i've never done a thing, no trace or suggestion i've even attempted it on the internal card... nothing
i'm at the point now where i'm quite happy to just have my phone back now and install ICS 404 but can't use the LG kdz install software as the pc doesn't see the phone as an LG p990 because it's recovery and i can only get it to come up as internal and external memory cards
i'm not really a noob when it comes to tech stuff but this little phone has me stumped.... please, i'm begging you, help me any operating system that can get my phone working will do, preferably the CM 7.2 if not back to ICS 404?
and i know, i know i should have backed up but i had no idea it could be so complicated just to put an OS on a tiny computer
ETA i've tried that exitrecovery.zip thing and it did nothing :/
It's quite simple
Try to reset and unroot/re-lock the phone then unlock and root, then what you need to do is get ROM Manager and get the Clockwork Recovery and the version that supports your device, although you might need to hook up your phone to your computer for the process to work.
Also put back in ICS 4.0.4 when unrooted and re-locked again like stock and make sure it's the stock file for your phone.
And after you got ROM Manger and the Clockwork Recovery
Then just in Clockwork wipe out all data on the device and don't do a factory reset in Android just with clockwork and delete everything that was made on that phone then install CyanogenMod.
After that it will seem to take a long time or just a while to boot up and then it boots faster then the original ROM.
If you have Clockwork Recovery just wipe out all the data while it's still in there and you should be set.
When it was my first time putting in CyanogenMod it was 10.1 RC1 on my Nexus 7 and it didn't work and forever bootlooped, and that was because i forgot to wipe the device. Then after going into Recovery with Clockwork I deleted all the data of my tablet and it worked but took 5 mins. to boot up which is nomal.
And if Clockwork doesn't work, do the same with TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) and download that which can be found here teamw.in/project/twrp
If you don't want to get ROM Manager or that one isn't working then try this website to get Clockwork because it has the whole list of devices and I recommend downloading from the website instead of their app. clockworkmod.com/rommanager
cheers for that, i've tried all of the above still to no avail, having a think about it the phone is partioned for ics, i'm trying to install CM 7.2 which as i understand isn't ICS so.... maybe the error is that it's a different partioning sequence/setup i'm gonna go for CM 10.1 and see if that makes a difference.
to add i'm not sure why everyone rants and raves about CWM, TWRP seems much more complete and advanced do you (or anyone else) know the main differences?

TWRP has a completely touch driven interface that is 100% themeable, while CWM has a touch version and non-touch version. Also TWRP has a built in file manger and terminal emulator where as CWM does not. A lot of people like TWRP because it provides a lot of good features with a simple and straightforward yet powerful user interface. I would recommend taking a look at this guide if you want more information on the differences between the two http://www.droidiser.com/2013/04/twrp-vs-clockworkmod-recovery.html?m=1.

ok i managed to do it i can't remember exactly how but some good links and info for anyone who stumbles across this in need of help
i went for cyanogenmod 10.1 to make this work i used this AIO tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
repartioned with OLD partion layout and BL
installed TWRP (included in the aio)
if you need to reinstall the google play store make sure you have right version if you flash it and get "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" repeatedly you have the wrong version see this link for which one you need http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps
obviously make sure you have adb and fastboot setup and drivers too.... it's a long process installing the entire sdk, personally for flashing this once and most definately not inclined to do it again i'd go with just the adb and fastboot rather than the whole sdk
also i found a keyboard error with 10.1 where i'd type 1,2 or 3 characters and the keyboard would minmise not sure if there's a proper fix (i found one thing where you disable the autocorrect but didn't want to do that) so i decided to download and install hackers keyboad which is based on the gingerbread keyboad and is much better and comes with full features and integrates nicely
coupled with the info above from YoyoscratchMC and you should be in the field
good luck to all i was ready to jump out my window with my phone first so i could land as hard as possible on it last night but i got there in the end lol
