I've rooted and unlocked my Prime. With Virtous ROM.
So the question is, can i update to .21? If can, how?
Will it brick my prime?
I'm new here but i like to get updated with the latest updates.
Nope I don't think so, unlocked=no updates.
21 upgrade
The latest virtuous is .21 , the developers of these roms will usually update them. Do not
update from asus , as you will brick it. Just install their latest virtuous rom zip.

I have a qeuestion regarding these OTA Updates
[*]My Hero is from Orange UK. But as of now, I m running SuperHero in it. So is it necessary to go back to the stock ROM to get the updates through OTA. Or is it enough to be connected.?
What for the official 2.1 release you mean? If you update you're unlikely to ever get it rooted again (though i'm sure someone will do it in time). But you'll be stuck on 2.1 til HTC update it (unlikely). If I were you i'd just wait for the updates to come from the community.
If you're talking about SuperHero OTA updates just run hte villainrom updater...

If you wanted the official Orange update (presuming it did come OTA), then you would need to be running the official ROM.
SuperHero is gonna be getting an update though which will make it more like the official ROM
I'd strongly advise not to install any stock update, as that will include a new SPL, which will try to prevent you rooting again. Stick with a custom ROM for now, and then you'll be able to grab a 'safe' copy of the final ROM from a dev over here when it's available. That way, you get a final copy but you also keep root.

Thanks fella. Much appreciated. I am very well aware of the effects of the official ROM Update. I bought my Hero from Orange UK, then I unlocked it and I am using it in India now. So was curious and confused regarding the update. The only thing which custom 2.1 ROMs didn't give me is a 'working exchange sync'. Each time I tried to sync it gives me an error caused by security certs. So I m still relied upon my Black berry for my official emails.

is rather shcoking as I m not able imagine going back to 1.5
So, I got my HTC Thunderbolt, rooted it, then unrooted it.
Would I be able to install the official MR2 OTA update from "Settings" then reroot my phone? I heard once installing this OTA update, rooting wasn't possible.
Or would I have to go an alternate route of rooting, then flashing an MR2 based ROM?
I'm completely lost, as I'm coming from a Droid X.
Also, what is this MR2.5 I'm hearing about? Is this just a leaked future OTA update?
Thanks in advance!
You could upgrade then root using the current method, but there's no point as it will downgrade you. If you want the OTA and root just root you phone, then flash the radio through hboot and a rooted version of the OTA ROM through recovery.
That's the MR2.5 update. hm, since it's a leak, it might not be 100% stable, correct?
Also, how often is that rooted version of the OTA ROM updated? It's not updated very frequently, is it? Is it just updated when a new OTA update comes out?
No, that's the "Official OTA MR2 Radio". Meaning the one that was pushed out via official over the air update, I've been running it since it dropped, not a single reboot (everyone's experience it different). You are correct on the ROM, only updated when HTC/VZW drop and update.
So, I just rooted my phone. Now I flash the MR2 update, and then the rooted version of the OTA ROM and I'll be good to go?
Why do I even need the rooted version of the OTA ROM? Is that so it'll be able to support the MR2 update?
No, there are many ROMs that support the MR2 radio. Check out the developement section, it will usually say in the OP what radio works with a given ROM. You mentioned updating then rooting so I assumed you wanted to use the OTA. You know what happens when you assume.
So the ROM you directed me to is pretty much stock? Nothing removed, nothing added?
It is debloated and has superuser and busybox (for root access). This one only has superuser and busybox (no bloat removed).
Hey guys/gals, so I recently rooted my WiFi tab using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
My question is, once the OTA ICS update rolls around from Samsung what will happen to my device?
Thanks.
your device will get android 4.0...
If you allow the ICS update, it will update you to ICS but remove your root. If you flash a custom ROM then you won't get the ICS update until you go back to stock.
or until we get custom ICS roms. Which at the rate development of them is going in xda, may be before the ota release.

Yeah, I have been on GB with my Samsung Captivate for over 3 months and there is no eta yet for an official update to GB yet.
often people will root the ota to keep root. i would imagine we will have ics roms before samsung releases it.
Okey, I'm not aware if this has been mentioned before, but as soon as I installed the unlocked JB WW rom I get an asus firmware update for my dock and it wants to update my system?
Is this save or not save to do? (since I'm aware asus updates can **** up ur prime when your bl is unlocked..) but am not sure about this one..
with regards, Hawkysoft
nvm, did it and all still works properly
I'm curious as to why I DIDN'T get notified to update. What version is the dock supposed to be at? I am currently showing TF201-DOCK-0207
Is that the latest, or does anyone know if there is a manual update to get the latest?
Hi, my brother in-law purchased open box/new TF201 with 3.0 version. He wants to update to the latest version. He called Asus support. They want him to pay $99 for the warranty first before they can provide any help. I've spent some time searching this forum and found manual updates to JB. However I'm not sure if he can jump from version 3 to JB. What he needs is just stock updates and fixes. I'm not an expert in android world. If someone could direct me where can I find needed updates and what should I do first, second, etc. I would really appreciate. Thank you in advance.
First, He cans update to ICS (4.0) directly by OTA.
For JB (4.1), it depends on his prime. Some of them receive the update via OTA ... Some other wait and wait the official update ... But they will not have it ... Like me ! ^^
So I've done the update manually (with some mistakes that I correct after, thanks to XDA members), and I install a custom ROM (androwook), based on the latest JB update for our Prime !
