hi all ..i have been eyeing on the s2 ever since it was released ..the problem is the price is so steep back then ...RM2100 ..but about 6 months later it dropped to RM 1900 ...then just last week it dropped to RM 1648 ..and today it dropped to RM 1558! it dropped RM100 in a week!? thats insane!! ..just wondering does anyone know the cause of it ?
S3 due out, HTC One due out, Xperia S out, Xperia P due out, Droid Razr Maxx due out. And so on....
And the S2 is a year old now...
Not rocket science.
i am pretty new to smartphones ..but a drop of RM600 in a course of a year is pretty crazy in my eyes ..or is this very common? i also realized that my bro's Galaxy S used to cost nearly RM2000! when it came out ..now my bro bought it for a 2nd hand for RM620 ...wow ....are smartphone prices so unstable? will the s2 cost a mere RM1000 at the end of the year?
Not unstable, simply Market forces. This is how it works, pay top price as an early adopter.
oh...thanks! oh and is the s2 is good phone ? cause i am thinking of other alternatives like htc sensation , xperia s , and arc s ...s2 is great but it ..soooo common and it's design ain't that appealing ..
I have a personal preference for SE phones, they are very well engineered and have been utterly reliable when used all over the world for me. Never missed a beat. But, I also like the SGS2, it is light and fast. The screen resolution is poor compared with Xperia, but has a greater contrast ratio. I don't understand why Samsung omit the notification LED from their phones, so I use "NoLED" from the Market to act as a notification alert. It works well on an OLED screen - very Nokia C7!
Your choice, ultimately. If you don't like the looks of the SGS2 now, you may never do so. So you might not "love" it as an owner.
In the Netherlands the price is still over 400 euro`s , more thant 600 us dollars.
Dude we love S2 not coz of " cute". But its a beast in hardware capabilities and the awesome dev section in XDA

you have to take note that in recent years, smartphone technologies have progress in lighting speed. At the start of 2010, phone with 1Ghz processor was top of the leauge, in 2011, it's duo core who catch the show (Where Galaxy S2 shine), and now its 2012, where quad core and 720p HD screen host the show, specification of galaxy S2 as of today only worth as a medium class. How much you would expect people pay for a medium class phone?
Other than Apple product, where apple have control over their retail price, it's natural for their price to drop as technogies advance. Well, only idiot apple fan would pay for overprice piece of product near it's debut retail price when it's so obsolete.

I don`t agree with you, had a galaxy note for 2 months and sold it again and went back to the s2. The s2 is way faster, more responsive and has imo a better screen. This is after a year still a top three device, but that`s just me
IMO even till now s2 is still pretty beastly ..at least quadrant , nenamark wise ..it still the highest in the business even after so long ...even higher than Xperia S , nexus ...
Tell me about it.
I bought my SG2 last month for 760$ (in Israel). Now it sells for 670$.

I've had my Desire HD for almost a year now and it's a great phone and has served me well but once again the new year has rolled around and my annual phone savings have started to swell so I'm looking to get a new phone.
The only phone at the minute that seems like a formidable upgrade from my desire HD and has caught my eye is the Galaxy Note, my main question however is:
Should I part with my money now or wait to see what 2012 has to offer?
Any replies/suggestions/opinions are appreciated, thankyou.
I heard that there's going to be a very fast phone coming in 2015.
I'd wait. quad core phones should be rolling out within the next few months.
unless you get a super good deal on a dual core phones out now, and don't need to have your new phone asap, really no reason not to wait just a couple months or so.
now why the heck would one need a quad core? one more way to uncharge your phone?!
ptt: if you don't need the best cam, i would def. lay down your money now on the GNex, best phone i ever owned... and the pure Google Android experience is awesome in my opinion
I'm not a massive fan of the nexus, just not my cup of tea design wise, if I'm to get a new one it'd be the note hands down.
I think I'll stick with my desire HD for now and get one of those lovely £10 a month GiffGaff simcards, upgrading so soon is a bit silly considering I only want the note because of it's superior browsing experience, everything else is just buffer.
Thanks anyway guys.
No matter when you buy, the next generation will be out a month later.
If you want the best futureproofing ATM, Galaxy Nexus is the best choice. But if you are into the HTC experience since you had the DHD so long, HTC should announce their Tegra 3 quad core phones shortly after CES, in case you want to look out for that as well
I'm personally going to wait to see the selection of tegra 3 devices that come out or are announced over the next 4 or 5 months before making a purchase decision. My CM7 Touchpad will do for now.
I think it's better to wait for quad-core phones.
After a couple of days pass there'll be CES! I think a lot of great quad-cores (actually not only quad-core devices) will be shown at the exhibition. So, there'll be much more devices that can 'catch your eye' and more options to choose from
They're out to get you
No matter what you do, the manufacturers are all out to get you in the end. You buy one now, 3 months later, there's something new that's out that you can't just get an "upgrade" to your existing phone for.
Samsung is a classic example. They could deploy ICS to the Galaxy S, but instead of just doing it and giving their customers what they want, they make them go out and buy the S2 (which is a fine device... ), but it only helps the carriers lock people into another 3 year contract, when they only had a year in to begin with.
It's a serious cramp in consumer leverage.
Wait till Cortex A15 processors (and Qualcomm's Krait architecture) come out.
The only quad core devices that will be coming out in the next roughly 3 months will all likely be Tegra 3, which IMO has a lackluster GPU and is A9. Tegra 3 definitely is pretty nice, but I think A15 chips with more powerful GPUs will be much better than Tegra 3.
I think it's safe to say that the Galaxy S3 is going to be something special. I'd wait to see just how good it is rather than buying now.

I agree, the new S3 will be something. Wait mid year and see what gets announced.
S3 will no doubt be fantastic specs wise but I just don't like the plastic construction and the lack of a bit of weight in Samsung phones and I know I'm not alone in that, so will probably be buying the HTC Edge, although if it's disappointing or not right for some reason I'll probably just try to find a good 32GB Gnex deal, can't justify spending the €500-600 most are looking for on Ebay for the 16GB model atm.

Yes. That's true and that is exactly what causes the low resale value of an android phone, IMHO.
hey I love the pace and the low resale value of android phones
otherwise I would never have my S2 on boost
I could never afford the phone otherwise
so you manufacturers keep cranking them out please because I don't do contracts
I cannot wait until the next batch of phones comes out because then I can grab a couple of extra S2's on craigslist
I am flat out impressed with a galaxy s 2 the only thing is really lacks is not enough resolution for the screen
for most things including games and videos you cannot notice the resolution lacking but the interface is too crowded things are too large I found lcd resolution allows me to change the dpi too an affective 160 dpi which simulates a 1200x720 screen resolution much much better
if a new galaxy s 3 has a 720 resolution screen keeps the SAMOLED screen feature I will buy it
otherwise I am perfectly happy with a S2's amazing feature set
If you're in America, don't wait for the S3. We most likely won't get them until late 2012 unless you fork over $800 for the international version.
Just my humble opinion, but quad cores are a bit early to adopt, there isn't going to me much application support utilizing all four cores till they flood the market, and there was already a bunch of new dual cores announced at CES - granted it's only the first day.
I think you better wait and buy something more worthwhile
you better wait for SGS 3..i think it will be good
Well hello bigger forums I came from the Ace family and I have plans on buying SII. I've heard good rumours about the phone and I've seen lots of interesting roms for it too (plus it's on main forum XD)
My options are HTC One X, GNote or SII and SII is quite leading in my eyes ATM.
Last question is, what is the price of SII in the US WITHOUT the contract?
Thanks for the responses guys, hope to see you soon
S24Lyfe
it depends on whether you're looking for an unlocked phone (being able to use any network) or if you wish to purchase it outright from your current service provider.
Unlocked it's about $500-600, and prices will range depending on your carrier if you want to go for option number 2.
I personally own the S2 and I can honestly say I love this phone.
Took less than 5 minutes to root, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of custom roms being developed for it, and the hardware itself is just great (it outperforms the iPhone 4s) - I highly recommend it.
Just my two cents.

S2 is still a beast when compared to other mobiles you have mentioned with the exception of HD screen. If you like bigger screens and feel compact to use it go for note, else s2 with its amoled is what you need
Thanks for the opinion guys. Im planning to buy it directly from a samsung store so yeah network unlocked. Can it run tegra games without chainfire3D? or simply does it have a tegra chip in it?

I'll be going next week so I need to make decisions now.
SGS2 is still a good phone. I had it for just over 10 months and loved it.
Got a HOX now and love that just as much. HOX has the HD screen which is lovely. SLCD2 vs AMOLED. Amoled has better blacks and such but I like the SLCD2 as well. Whites are better and not prone to screen burns.
Hardware wise both are beasts. Dual Core vs Quad Teg 3. DC is still fast enough not enough optimising quad at the moment. With TEG3 you get the range of Nvidia games without the need for Chainfire.
Design wise HOX wins, it's sexy and sleek but the SGS2 is lighter and thinner. Both feel good in the hand.
UI wise, Sense wins for me personally, but TouchWiz is not as bad it has it's own feature set.
If you want the cheaper device go for the SGS2 as price is decent. You'll be happy with any of your choices. The Galaxy range of devices are far easier to root with their unlocked bootloaders if you want to go with custom roms and such and development is very active with HOX it will get active when more devs have it. I'd still rate the Note over the SGS2 as it's a beast, if you can handle the size then definitely get the note.
I agree, the note is excellent.

S3 to the S2 is what the iphone 4s is to the iphone 4
Look at the main differences, they are only software oriented... The only upgrade is maybe the camera, the quad core cpu (with same gpu) and the led notification light... The super amoled hd is a pentile screen...

thats what i was thinking.
cause the camera is the same old 8 mp cmos sensor but flatpanel.
just the screen size, resolution and the processor has been changed.
so i think would stick to my S2 for one year more and wait for S4.
my DAD will be happy that this year his wallet will not be empty like last 2 years.
Other than the screen and battery, there's nothing I want over s2 TBH. When's the last time you found s2's CPU struggle with anything? Now what you going to do with a quad core CPU that put some laptops to shame?
I know most S2 users will say it's not worth it, but after reading both the engadget and androidcentral coverage (and also technobuffalo and pocketnow) I have come to the conclusion:
I want it.
First of all, this is not iPhone 4->4S. The only thing there was a dual core in stead of single core processor and the camera. No DESIGN changes, it looked the same. No screen changes, it looked the same.
My initial feeling was mixed. First I wasn't amazed by the design. After seeing more and more articles and more and more pictures/videos, I changed my mind. That "metallic blue" colour is very nice, I like the home button design, the curved edges. The only thing I'm not amazed about is the back, but it's ok.
Hardware wise I'm happy. People with the S2, I understand you doubting if it's worth the upgrade from an S2. But some people on the net saying the hardware is total "****" should be locked up. People expect WAY to much. 2 years ago I would have only dreamed about such specs. While my S2 is no slow guy, I am starting so see room for improvements. It's slow some times, not a lot but ok. Also the change from WVGA to 720p res is a great thing, even if it's "pentile". Another small but maybe unknown detail is the S3 uses a "wolfson" soundchip or how it's called, so supercurio already tweeted we can expect amazing sound quality.
Atm I"m enjoying my S2 and somewhere in June/July I might get the S3. Like I said a while ago, standard pattern of most humans:
Initial disappointment, after a while start changing their minds, buy the phone anyway, start loving it hardcore mode. Every year. People usually focus only on specs on paper, but start seeing the small details later. And off course actually holding the phone in your hand, that's when the magic chicks in ^^
Of course it's worth buying the SIII. They upgraded the best feature in the world: pink spot right in the middle of the photos.

Exactly .... and the special thing thing is the chip is better than the one in sgs.
Generally people will never have the mind to update their previous flagship, adding the poor design for sgs3 the upgrade will be slower from sgs2 users.
If you like HD screen, capture more photos, better battery life then you can switch to sgs3 without a doubt.
People haven't read the initial review from anandtech and gsmarena, this sgs3 blows the competitors with wide margin . The only drawback I would say is the back panel design.

Having gotten the original Galaxy S and SII, I was greatly anticipating the SIII even though I was very impressed with the HTC One X.
After seeing the device, I have to say I'll be getting the One X instead. I waited and waited but was ultimately disappointed.
This new device is pretty ugly. How can the company that made the elegant Galaxy Nexus also make the chintzy, cheap-looking Galaxy SIII? Seriously -- the Galaxy SII actually looks better with its more pronounced edges -- the curved appearance of the SIII reminds me a lot of the Galaxy S -- in other words, the design went backwards. At least the iPhone 4s retained what was a good-looking design.
That's not the only thing that went backwards: the display technology Samsung is using on the SII is superior to the Pentile display of the SIII even if the resolution is lesser. What's more, in real world use, the SIII will probably not be that much better than the One X. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the front camera also has a slightly smaller sensor, doesn't it (1.9Mpix vs. 2.0Mpix)?
Moreover, whereas other manufacturers are exploring the use of new processes and materials for its builds (Apple is allegedly planning to use new materials and processes on its iPhone and HTC already used a different set on its new One series), Samsung has stuck to ugly, glossy plastic.
What's bizarre is that if you look at Samsung's other offerings, like its televisions, it isn't afraid of producing elegant, spartan designs. There's nothing elegant or spartan about the Galaxy SIII, it's just cheesy.
Also, while I thought Touchwiz 4 was passable enough, the new TouchWiz looks like a disaster waiting to happen. You can already tell there's going to be a ton of crapware on the i9300. Where's the evolution? Why persist with the iPhone knock-off design sensibility when Android has already moved forward? Why insist on a very ugly hardware home button when Sammy itself shipped the first ICS sandwich with virtual buttons?
Rather than going for an ICS-influenced look which was meant to unify the appearance of the OS across devices and manufacturers, Samsung doubled-down on the most-critiqued software feature of its devices. Also, as one can see from the various hands-on videos, they even retained the Gingerbread-green battery icons!
At least HTC had the good sense to tweak SenseUI heavily to give its users a good user experience while incorporating just enough ICS to please the Android purists. Just looking at the TW5, you know it'll be another invasive, ugly experience from Samsung.
The only redeeming quality the SIII seems to have is its SoC, which is why some are saying its an evolutionary rather than revolutionary update.
So, sorry, Sammy. You aren't getting my money this year.
Better stay away from xda, internet for some time
If i say just once that I need new phone, I am kicked out of house

i'm pretty disappointed with the Galaxy S3 to be honest.
1. looks like a piece of soap.
2. screen is pentile
3. hardware buttons (really samsung?)
4. fat bezel
5. a9 battery sucker instead of a a15 for the sake of marketing
6. crapwiz
it's a galaxy SIIs. I'm gonna wait for the next Nexus. just my $0,02
In my opinion, SG3 not really a idea phone to buy if you already have SG2. Because:
1. Still not need quad core yet.
2. 4.8inch too big for "mobile" phone. Almost size of Samsung Note.
3. Same camera MP.
4. Ugly and non pro design.
The only things that interest me is the NFC technology.

i can't believe that there still people thinking that image quality is measured in megapixel. it's 2012.... we should be over this now. people like you are the reason why the sgs3 has a inefficient quad instead of a a15 dual. CUZ M O O OOOAR IS B E TTARRR!
So now we have seen the great galaxy s3
I have three question
1-What do you feel about it ?
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
3-are you going to buy it ?
Actually I was only disappointed by the design ,, but also some people who tried the galaxy s3 in the unpcak , said that it feels good in the hands
Secondly I am very impressed by the hard were
And the screen ,, I know it's pen tile
But hey with samsung's amoled Every screen will look gorgeous
Before I see the s3 I decided that I may buy HTC one X but now i I'm sure that I will buy the s3 because I know that it will be the greatest phone for the next six months then the galaxy note 2 or the new nexus will take the lead
the main selling point for me is the screen..we tech nerds like clear screen and picky about it maybe i just have good eye sight or got spoiled on my crappy iphone 4 screen had the note but returned it do to screen pixel issues and waited for theGS3 to come out but now im a bit eh about it due to screen should of been a plus+ HD..so tomorrow im going to best buy and get the HTC One X for a test drive..
like about GS3..screen size is nice/battery/SD card slot removable/design is ok not drooling over it could of been better like that mock up pic with that big clock widget on it that was nice mock up..just not digging the pentile screen..
like on HTC One X..design/screen...dont like..no sd card/removable battery/16GB on att version i think i can live with 16GB plus the 25/30GB of drop box thanks to grandfather unlimited data but still get slown down at 5GB on LTE but i can live with it.ill hit around that much of data by the end of the month..att sucks for doing this.! att version should have came with 32GB internal as well like the international version..plus the battery could of been a 2000mah for more use but i think the S4 chip helps with power consumption just depends on user/settings/how they use it ect.. if the HTC One X had a SD card slot and removable battery that would of been a winner IMO..
decisions decisions decisions us tech nerd geeks make huh most regular consumers wont care about pentile/not pentile screens..us nerds want the most high end out of the device so that said phone battle awaits for 2012 HTC One X/GS3/iPhone 5/Nexus..not sure about note 2 that to me is a hybrid and a nice hybrid device oh i miss my note in a way darn you pentile screens
1-What do you feel about it ?
I like the front design which looks like a Nexus device, but not the back. Overall neutral, its expected from Samsung, I have zero worry about build quality. I also feel Samsung shouldn't pay Microsoft the Android royalty fees and as for Foxconn.. nm
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
I generally reserve these feelings for women, but... Yes the benchmark of the Exynos quadcore is very good and it has Wolfson DAC for excellent sound quality. I'm not impressed by other features, overall its a fair improvement, but major leap from the SII.
3-are you going to buy it ?
No, I just bought a Galaxy Nexus. I do think the SIII is a great phone, but I'm not willing to buy it for its (predicted) released price when there are much cheaper Galaxy models that work just as well even though not as powerful, not to mention the One X and S. Though I will likely buy one during Christmas time if the price drop a lot by then, which I don't think it will due to quadcore still being a big fad. So I predict waiting for the next Nexus device, but I doubt I can resist the temptation to try out a different phone once every few months.
1) i like the look for the fact that they have gone for a minamilistic look in a rather hungry market.
2) i believe it will satisfy me
3) pre-ordered as soon as i could have which was the following morning, guy on phone said "this is the first one i have put through" and this was at like 9.05 am

1-i think its a great looking phone. but i am worried about the mm of black in between the edge of the screen and the beginning of the bezel. i am hoping that it was just an issue with the pre-production models. otherwise... its a huge flaw in my book. its like painting your living room without 'cutting in'... sloppy.
other than that i am totally digging everything samsung has done this time around. the software tweaks alone make this phone a little nugget of gold in my opinion. the gs2 is/was a great phone. the gs3 ups the bar for each and every manufacturer of each and every os. the gs3 totally stands out from the crowd in software.
2-i think you can probably tell that i am satisfied. i knew that the hardware was going to be very similar to the one x and the design was going to be normal samsung. i was on engadget a couple days before the release saying that in order for samsung to keep the removable battery... i feared that would mean a plastic back. so the design and 'plasticyness' of it was of no surprise to me.
i must say though that i was definitely pleasantly surprised with all of the software tweaks within touchwiz (which i actually dont mind). we knew the eye tracking stay awake thing was coming, but i was impressed with the pip. the raise to call. these new lockscreen gestures. the airplay and airplay powerpoint. etc.
3- i dunno. if i do buy it then i will most likely buy the international version. it will be a while before att gets lte into nashville. if it is anything like their uverse roll-out then i will be the last city to get it. not to mention i read somewhere that they needed to buy crickets lte spectrum in order to cover those areas, and just the other day i read that cricket was going to start rolling out their own lte soon. so things arent looking good for me and an hspa+ phone will be all i need for the next year until the gs4 is released. and i for sure dont care to buy a phone that has the same processor as every other high end phone that hits the states.

the main selling point for me is the screen..we tech nerds like clear screen and picky about it maybe i just have good eye sight or got spoiled on my crappy iphone 4 screen had the note but returned it do to screen pixel issues and waited for theGS3 to come out but now im a bit eh about it due to screen should of been a plus+ HD..so tomorrow im going to best buy and get the HTC One X for a test drive.

i was the same way when i went from the 4 and then a week of the 4s to the gs2. i couldnt wrap my head around not being able to read the small text when browsing. i eventually got used to it after a couple of months, but it did take that long for it to happen. if it wasnt for me loving android so much more than ios i probably would have gone back to the iphone myself.
i hope by test drive you mean 'until the gs3 comes out'. lol. the ppi is hitting 306 on a 4.8" screen. you arent going to care that it is pentile. the droid razr screen is pentile and i can barely tell a dif from my amoled+ gs2. if i were you i would wait another couple of weeks before i bought the one x. by then there will probably be a tentative date for the us release and if you time it right... you can get a months worth of use out of the one x and then return it for $35 when the gs3 comes out.

I am buying one in a few days. I am from Argentina and I am upgrading from a Droid 2.
I think that suits my situation very well, as I want a bigger screen device (3.7' to 4.3'). It has an excellent design, which is something i really like. It has 2 cores (1 GHz core from D2 to 2 1.2GHz cores). I am also gaining RAM.
But above all this, the phones that are currently available in Argentina (where i live) are not that great. The S3 is releasing soon but at a huge price and screen seems to big for me. Then there are not other better choices in my carrier at least. Only got Milestone 3, HTC Sensation, Razr, and stop counting. So S2 is my best choice.
See how is your situation, you are not giving many details, but I think that it's a great choice, that's why I'll buy it.
Totally worth it ..!!
I don't know if people feel the same way about the Galaxy Nexus as I do, but I think that phone is the clear choice if you're going to buy an Android today.
It's priced very competitively. I think it's 350 USD (plus taxes) from Google Play?
Here in Hong Kong, it's about 400 USD (all inclusive).
Plus, with Jelly Bean it performs just as fast (if not faster) than the new phones like the S3 and the 1X.
I've had the S2 since launch and it's great. But I recently purchased the Galaxy Nexus for my wife. I updated it to Jelly Bean and that phone makes the S2 (running CM9) seem dated.

I could have easily bought GNex days ago but reviews with camera quality, 5 MP vs 8 MP on S2 discouraged me. Also 1.3 MP vs 2 MP front camera. I always do self portraits, that's why. But GNex has sharp screen. Really a hard choice. But both are good and up to par with current and I hope future developments.
Bought 1 a few months ago after its price dropped. Imo it's worth it since i'm not subscribing to data plan

I don't know how much your budget is but (in Holland at least) for 70 euros you have the htc one s, if the extra cost is within your budget and you can get the original s4 (not the s3 variant), I would get that. It feels like a big upgrade compared to the sgs2, the screen is better, touch sensitity is better, it feels better in the had, standby is much better (up to 5 days on a single charge with light use), it feels much faster overal than the sgs2
Absolutely not IMO. Either wait for next Nexus or buy that classic designed SIII.
totally worth it, ive got this phone for 6 months now and already convinced 3 friends of buying it aswell!! And my girlfriend is soon going to sell her iphone 4 for the galaxy SIII.
The phone is very good and it got alot of roms to play with! I am happy i bought it.
The galaxy siii is ofcourse much better but also much more expensive... i would go with the s2 if i was you
Currently own S2, but next phone will be Nexus.
I don't know how it is in India, but here where I live is impossible to get a Nexus for less than U$1000 (unlocked). Really! I'm not lying. And carriers don't bring this kind of device.
Another thing to take into account is the fact that both SGS3 and Nexus are very big devices, surpassing the 13cm mark.
i9100
I've had this phone for 2 months and I really don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having an sIII or nexus... Just root the SII, and flash a sweet ROM.. (I use Resurrection Remix...) you will have a device that destroys anything that is stock.. plus... getting something epic for half the price of cutting edge is part of the fun.... also I can vouch for the 8mp camera on the i9100 it is freaking awesome!!! better than my point and shoot... and destroys any other phone camera I've used... plus 1080p video camera is freaking sweet!
