I have spent a better part of today trying to find out what Im doing wrong. Im going to make a long story short as possible. When I plug my phone in I dont see my sd card or any storage. I only see 2 files with windows explorer. Do I need to uncheck debugging? I know this has to be simple but I cant find an answer anywhere. After about 8 hours of searching this forum, yahoo and some other places. I was burned out. Going to get off here again. Stressed out doesnt help my situation. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Ok flame away!!!
we need just a little more info.
What ROM are you on. Have you installed kies on your computer.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
If you are running the ICS TouchWiz build you need to turn on USB storage. Settings > more (under wireless and networks) > USB utilities.
That works for me. My home computer will see my phone as an MTP device, after it installed drivers, and as USB storage using the above. My work computer will only work if I enable USB storage.
If you aren't using the ICS TW ROMs then we need more information.
And one final thing: search before posting n00b

Thanks for answering me. Still searching and reading. Im not on any rom. Just stock. Been trying to flash a couple. I have them loaded and ready to go. Just cant figure out how to get them on my sd card. Its a little hard when I cant even find it. LOL!! BTW I hate windows 7. Anyway Im off to do some more reading and get even more stressed out! Here I thought to myself I have this all figured out! Yea right!! Just a little set back. I was on 2.3.6. Flashed back with Entropy's one click to get me back to 2.3.4. Still having trouble with wifi. But I think its where Im at. Ill wait till Im home tomorrow and try it all over again.Yes Im a noob!! But hey we all started that way!! Ill be banging my head on the wall if I dont get this figured out!! Its really bugging me.
Yes I have Kies installed.
Could you download them directly on the phone? That's what I do, so I don't have to mess with cables. I use dolphin browser when the stock browser doesn't want to download the files.

So you said you successfully flashed back to 2.3.4, just cannot get any storage displayed when plugging into your PC running W7?
a. before plug in, can you check your phone under Settings/Storage to see if SD_card or USB storage displayed.
b. Did you install the USB driver into your W7 PC?
c. Did you check to see any USB notification on the status bar of your phone when plugging it into the PC?
Have you tried a different cable? Are you plugging into a hub or straight into the computer? I couldn't get mine to connect through a hub. Needed to be straight to the computer.

I am trying to run the Froyo JPM *10/24/2010* Everything works well until I try to mount the device to the computer to transfer files. It gives me the option to connect to Kies but I do not have this installed. With usb debugging on and off I am still not able to mount to the cpu. Is there something that I am missing, it seems so much simpler to connect on 2.1.
Please help,

Make sure that USB Storage (Or something like that is on - In settings>Applications>USB Settings > Mass Storage)

I appreciate your response Master, I have had this problem on all the 2.2 roms, even yours. to be honest is the only reason that I switched back. I just need to be able to move files from the puter to the device. phone is in mass storage but still has me connect to kies every time i plug in the phone. I have never used kies so I have no idea how it works, but I no longer have the option to just drag and drop from the removable hard drive. Any suggestions as to what my problem is.
Again thanks,

Flash a stable ROM. What you're running is a tweaked and patched port, there's gonna be issues.

I have successfully flashed back to a cooked 2.1 and I have never had any issues with this. I read post of others who dont seem to have an issues as well. Im confused as to what the issue could be. I know its something dumb azz like a setting but at least i would know.
Thanks Tho,
Just a thought
This may be stating the obvious, but hey sometimes we look over the simple things. When experiencing this problem did you got into Settings>Applications>USB settings. and make cure its set to "Ask on connection"? or maybe "Mass Storage" since thats your primary focus?
Just my 2 cents.....
Well, I did it. I messed up my phone (like the other people that I usually laugh at!).
I was updating Simply Honey and during the "rainbow" something got messed up.
My Mac and PC wont recognize my phone (Odin or Heimdall). My phone is in DOWNLOAD mode. I don't think USB DEBUGGING is on.
I cannot get my phone into recovery either.
I have been working on this for a couple days now, but have not found a solution. I am hoping someone can give me some direction.
I attached a screen shot.
Thanks!
I had to download i9000 drivers. When had this prob hem never worked had to use Odin. Drivers can be found if Google i9000 drivers.

THIS so much...stoopid programs are finicky.
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
I got it to work today! You guys were right. I simply needed the proper drivers. I used a better PC today and it actually auto-installed the right drivers when I connected the phone.
Why cant Macs do stuff like that? Oh well.
I started out with stock Froyo-JFD then installed Simply Honey ROM along with the GB bootloader. Its all good now! Thanks for the support and encouragement!
I was recently shopping for a knock-around tablet and came across leaderinternationalinc dot com this little guy at Kmart. Yep, I said Kmart. When I asked the price and they told me $129, I said SOLD!.
So far it's been average in performance and had to do some trickery to get some apps installed (Android/Amazon Market, Pandora, Google Talk, etc.) and am still having some difficulty installing other apps. It seems as if they really want you to use their market and apps, some of which are okay, I guess. I got Netflix installed, but the audio/video isn't in sync and everything is a hue of blue. Might be a Flash Player issue - also which I can't seem to update.
Anyway, the bad news is I can't find a way to get in to bootloader or able to root this tab with oneclick. Hopefully they didn't lock this thing down to hard.
Additionally, since the screen is resistive, using a stylus makes it a bit easier to navigate. Worth the money so far!
I'm praying the brilliant dev brains here at XDA will purchase this one and create a simple root/rom that allows me to take this thing to the next level!
Anybody out there?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Were you able to get the standard Market installed on it? I was able to get it along with Pandora, Google Voice and a couple others (Netflix not working well) with a little trickery. Still can't get Google Talk and a few other things like an updated Flash.
If I can get a plain vanilla Froyo on this I would give this cheap little tab a solid B.
#bonus
I know this doesn't have anything to do with my original [Q], but I thought I would share anyway...
I contacted Impression about another AC adapter... 1 isn't enough...
After I registered my device, they shipped me another for free!
Any devs out there for this one?
just return it and get another one, a tablet thats $129 is probably not going to be great at that price.. other than the time hp touchpads were $99
Yeah, it's not the snappiest device I've owned, but makes a great desk-side companion. Mainly use it for Pandora, Weather, IM and a few other things...I'm generally still happy with it although I know it won't replace my primary device. Having the (free) second AC adapter is nice so I don't have to carry that back and forth. 2 hours of streaming music kills the battery dead.
Stay plugged in with this one.
Still hoping, praying that a dev picks one of these up...

You can install the Android Market without any funny business. Just download the apk and install. Still think this device can perform much better if it just had vanilla froyo... Hope someone cracks it.

I used super1click, the newest version. It didnt work the first few times, i ended up doing shell root first, then was able to achieve root as normal. It did seem to take a while.
Edit: I just rooted a 2nd i7.... had the same trouble with it just hanging during root. When it hangs, quickly unplug the usb the replug it in. Once it detects usb debugging again it will root properly and pass the verification at the end.
Hope that helps

Just attempted rooting it myself with Superoneclick.
Did shell root first and that went fine. Attempted normal root right after and it hung right at the end when it said the device was rooted and would restart. Unplugged and replugged the usb quickly and then it rebooted.
My i7 was definitely not rooted when it rebooted. Not sure what went wrong. Attempted it numerous times with the same result sadly. Did it hang right at the end for you or at a different point during the root?

When it hangs at the end it never worked for me. Id suggest trying the different methods to root instead of auto....i just pretty much tried everything until i goot root to stick...if it hangs during root steps thats when to unplug and replug.

Oh and obviously double check usb debugging is enabled

Unless you're comfortable with using adb, know how to find or compile adb for ARM CPUs and have a tablet or device that allows usb host mode, then you're going to need a computer. As you need a computer to actually attempt to do that and cross compiling is a pain, that will likely not be an option.
Honestly, I wouldn't even bother doing that myself. Just a pain in the ass when it takes like 10 minutes to do on a PC without that versus some hours and a prayer.
Also you dont need to install anything to use adb on a PC, just the files for it. You could do this on a internet cafe pc, a friend's or a school computer. I mean if you can't find a computer through some means with given that, then I hope you're currently working for the Peace Corps in Sub-Saharan Africa and there's no electricity or phone lines.

Yeah you should be able to just grab adb from some random post on xda and run it and you'll be all set for what you need to root the manual way by downgrading and such. No install needed on the pc as long as you have a pc that runs windows, osx or linux. Just stick it on a usb stick or something and run. If you have issues, just post here again.
If you're using windows, then this should have everything you need in it to use adb without installing it:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a3sx25laka08g0n
You'll just need to go to the directory you unzip it from and run adb in it from the command line.
Hello,
I recently got a friend's old Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) from Verizon, SCH-I500 EH03. This is the first Smart Phone I ever owned and I wanted to join the bandwagon, long story short I read xda-developers.com for a couple of days trying to absorb as much as I could and after all my faulty USB Cable messed it all up.
I was updating PIT and PDA through ODIN, Powerwashed and Atlas when my USB Cable got a little bit loose, I tried to put it back it and unfortunately it came out of the device, Odin errored out, phone froze and I got a Green Screen, not knowing what was going on and out of desperation and bad judgement I pulled the battery out.
Now I get a black pitch screen with no icons on it, Ive already researched for Soft Bricked and I do not get the Black Screen of Death, this is just Black. Computer doesn't recognizes phone at all, I've trying holding power button for a long time, removing battery or just using USB Cable but nada.
I' did some research on the Jig mod but it seems that it only works if you get at least something on the screen while all I get is a black screen.
I'm about to try to attempt doing this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206216 - The Captivate Development Platform AKA Unbrickable Mod.
Before I do so I'd like to know if there is any other alternative, I don't have much experience on electronics and I'm going to purely base my judgement and fix on the thread above me. I realized that my phone might be gone for good so why not give it a last try.
Thanks in advance for reading.

I did try to run Odin without the battery but the phone wouldn't even turn on at all, Id like to think this was caused because the Cable I used was a generic one and not the Original Samsung one, I have ordered one Online from Ebay, one that is Branded Samsung and specially for this Phone, I will update this thread as soon as I get it and try your steps.

I must admit it man, I knew you knew your stuff, but I had my doubts, Thanks a lot for your help, I'm truly grateful for your help. My phone is unbricked now.
I got a couple of questions for you if you don't mind,
Id like to have newest android but I'm not sure if this phone can support it, you seem to have the same phone number as I do.. what version of Android do you run.
And last but not least.. is it true that since the phone was vberizon and I want to use a different carrier I can only use the Voice Plan for it?, Data plan won't work on rooted phones unless I go to the original carrier, is this a myth or true?
Thanks once again for the amazing help, I'm truly happy!

Np This phone is one of the most supported phones out there and the fastest. Right now I'm getting performance as good as the galaxy s3. This phone can run ICS, jellybean, and even the new 4.2. Jellybean ROMs run the smoothest though. Just look and droidsytles guide section 4 it will tell you everything. I also have couple of ROMs up. Also it is a myth.

I've followed the guide, I got Paranoid Android Jelly Bean running on my phone, The only issue I have now is that I'm unable to Activate my Phone, I need to dial a number and then select an option but when I'm calling it just keeps telling me to activate and doesn't let me use th enumber pad, is there a way to get rid of the Verizon/Phone Activation so I can use the numbers pad?

Okay, I will go to their location to complete the activation, one more and last thing, Which ROM do you run on your phone, I instaleld Paranoid Anroid JB 4.1 but I've read a few threads that it drains the battery so I was wondering if you could share what you use since you seem to know this phone pretty well.
Thanks for all the previous help, without you I would be using a really old phone right now

My phone has been activated, with a different carrier than Verizon which is the original carrier of the phone.
They have reset my Android OS back to stock... but phone finally works I guess is a good thing, if I want to go back to JB Paranoid Android 4.1 would I have to reactivate again after following Droidstyles guide? or can I just do the 4th steep and the phone will be ready to go.

If you should need to do it dial *22890 or *22891
That will get you past having to input a number option to activate

Almost perfection!.
Two more questions,
1- Is there anytihg else I would need to do, load a rom or tweak so DATA works? , I've activated my phone and Voice works perfectly fine, I can also send text messages and WIFI works.
2- Somehow my phone still thinks is with Verizon Wireless for some stuff such as Google Play Store it gives me the option to Add a Card, Redeem Code or Charge my Verizon Account?
Also when I turn on the phone the bottom of Jelly Bean Menu to unlock the phone shows Verizon Wireless, is this normal?
