I'm at my wits end. I was having problems with Google Play. So I attempted to unroot and start over hoping that would solve my problem. Turns out, I screwed something up because I'm stuck in the CWD Recovery v5.5.0.4 and I can't get out of it. I can't even turn off my NT. Power and N does not do anything. I have tried to everything I could find. From the acclaim_update.zip to rerooting to Nook_Recovery_Fix.zip and nothing has worked. I formatted everything that I could through the mounts and storage (I know I shouldn't have formatted the ROM, but I was a little upset at the time). The only thing I haven't tried is throwing it against a wall, but that's next. Does anyone have a solution or an attempt at one? Any help is appreciated.
If you hold PWR for 10s the tablet will certainly turn off.
Boot CWM from microSD and restore the image from this thread.
After that you can make a factory reset or whatever you want.
Once you get things working good again, root, apps installed and everything, make a backup, it will make your life much easier when something goes wrong.

Well Albert's method did not work, but I attempted AdamOutler's Ubuntu and it worked. Very excited. Now I can start all over. But a thanks for the 10s hold. I had tried it before and it didn't work, so I thought I would try again and about 20s later it powered off. Appreciate the help.
Yeah I agree on the 10 seconds being not long enough. I have both a NT and NC which always take longer than that. I ALWAYS must hold the button combination for 20-30 sec it seems. Don't count, just hold em down! Glad your back up and running

In anticipation of flashing Eugene's MacNut with GPS working, I managed to somehow got to the point where the phone will now not even boot up. I did a factory reset, "Linda" said "complete", then when I rebooted it did so but then shut off. I was able to get to Odin via reboot download, I flashed back to stock, but when it rebooted it shut off again. Now I cannot get the phone to boot up, either normally or in to recovery. Anyone ever have this experience, and is there any way out? TIA.
New issue...
Good to see that nobody else had this problem. Fortunately I found out how to get into download mode. I may have successfully (maybe?) reflashed stock through Odin. However, when I reboot the screen goes black and the phone turns off. I've spent hours trying to find the exact type of potential issue I have, and none of them get me past where I'm at now. The most promising I found was this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811820
but I am not exactly sure of the sequence: constant "adb push update.zip /sdcard" that I should be doing. Like, how many times do I do this? When I push the power button while in recovery it (obviously) just reboots, which is what it is supposed to do. Am I trying the wrong thing/ in th wrong thread? TIA.
This worked for me, but it re-partitions, so you'll lose your data.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
I was also trying to find the instructions where you odin "froyo that doesn't brick" and then odin the original, but I don't see it now.
if you need to get into download mode, use Eugene's method:
pull battery and leave it out
plug in the usb to the phone and the computer
hold volume +/- key
insert battery while holding the volume key

Hey, thanks for the reply. I am able to get in to download. I'm uploading the file now, it's a big one. We'll see when it's done. Thanks again.

Oh well, so much for the theoretical impossibility of bricking a Vibrant. I did the whole YouNeek fix, no go. It still does the same thing as it has since I screwed it up, it turns on, reboots and then goes black. Oh well, I think I've about had it with Samsung. The screen is awesome, but the OS is just not user friendly. The irony is that when I bricked this thing I took the SIM out and threw it back into my G1, which I have NEVER had an issue with. HTC...
I had the same issue you had, boots, screen goes black but buttons still light up. I posted the fix in a few different threads, one of which I started myself. If you search for threads I've started your fix will be there. You have to flash eugene's "froyo that will not brick" through odin and then flash the stock rom again through odin. Check my thread for a link to the exact instructions. I fix my phone in about 5 minutes once the roms were downloaded and happily shipped my replacement back so I won't have to pay the $20 in shipping

i wanted to do a factory reset so i followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420408
and what i exactly did is:
1. i didn't turn the nook tablet off. i went back to the home default launcher.
2. i hold down the power button first, after that i simultaneously hold down the home (N) button.
3. i saw the nook tablet turned off (i saw a black screen, so i thought it was turned off), and then at this time i released the home button and the power button.
4. as i said before, i saw it turned off, so i turned it on and it start flashing the screen, stuck at "read forever".
and then i chatted with nook support, they said i need to do a factory reset (which is what i tried to do before) and they told me to follow this:
I see. It seems that we may need to do a factory reset on your NOOK. Before we proceed with this, please be advised that doing the factory reset will delete all of your personal files permanently, so I advise you to back them up. For your BN contents, they will be recovered immediately after we do re-register your device. Lastly, please take out any SD cards installed on your NOOK.
Now, please do the following steps after fully charging your NOOK:
1.Hold the power button down until NOOK Tablet is powered off, ignoring the "Power off" prompt.
2.After Your NOOK is powered off hold the "NOOK Home Key" down then simultaneously hold down the "Power" button, release the buttons immediately after the “Read Forever” logo disappears.
3.If successful, a grey NOOK Logo will appear and the screen will refresh momentarily and flash yellow. A prompt will appear asking if you would like to perform a “Factory Reset,” Tap the "NOOK Home key" to confirm. Tap the "Home key" again to begin the process. If not, re-do step 2 process again.
4.After a few minutes your device will reset and re-install all necessary software. Once completed, you will have to register the device again.

i know it's similar to the guide at the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420408). so i tried it. and the confirm screen showed up, i confirmed, on the screen it was "Clearing data".
i thought i was successful. but NO, after it cleared data, it reset the nook tablet, and again, stuck at "read forever".
so i turned it off, and come to this forum to post this thread, PLEASE HELP ME
additional information:
- i took out the SD card before i do the factory reset (because they said that), but when i tried the first time (after reading the thread at XDA), i didn't take out the SD card (16 GB)
- they said i need to do after fully charged, but i did it when my battery was like 30%.
- last time i did a factory reset, i saw after it cleared data, it also restore factory setting, ("please do not turn off your device..."). but this time it didn't do that.
is it because the battery is not good enough so it didn't do the factory reset?
p/s: i'm charging it when i post this thread, and waiting for your help. i think i will try factory reset again after it fully charged.

Charge the NT up and then just let it sit for about 15 minutes. I had a similar problem just a few minutes ago that I fixed by doing that, clicking on all the "force close" buttons I was getting, rebooted into recovery via the Quick Boot app, and fixed permissions.

i'm not sure what you mean, it stuck at "read forever", nothing else shows up, there are no "force close" buttons and what is quick boot app, how can i do this when i can't even see the home screen.
what i want is just do a factory reset successfully, i don't why it was clearing data but it didn't recover.
Do you have CWM installed internally possibly?
If not you could make a bootable sdcard with CWM and make a wipe data (factory reset) once there.

i don't even know what CWM is,
but can i put the file acclaim_update.zip into my sd card and use it to restore? (i never tried this)
last time i tried this method to root the nook :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488035
but when i boot it, it just boot normally, there was no "Apply update.zip from sdcard" screen
so i'm not sure if the sd works or not

If you're nook tablet is the 16GB model then you can try that .zip but if is the 8GB model then dont try it or you will brick your device.
Your should first read my FAQ - link in my signature (see below).
omg! it's so bad now
i charged the nook tablet while it's turned off, (because i don't want to see the flashing screen - i think it's not good), but i just went to nook support and they said DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE WHILE CHARGING.
so what can i do? if the battery is not good, it will not restore (nook support said that when i contacted them),
so the only thing i can do is leave the flashing screen, so it can charge, that will make the screen "dies", probably?
____________________________________
EDIT: don't know why and how but i tried again and finally it restored. i feel better now.
and i see the battery is 84%, which means it did charge, it is charging.
so why do they say don't turn off when charge?
p/s: i think as a newbie, i should not be curious about the stuff i don't know,...

your screen won't die just leave it on it's ok, walk away and come back after 1 hour or so (if your battery was very low).

thank you for your help while i'm having problem with my NT.
finally i success (edited in the post above)
Well I read your other thread, and if I read it correctly, didn't you remove the entire /system/app folder by mistake? If possible, why not make a recovery sd card which can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 ?
So I attempted to root my NT using Ray Waldo's Jelly Bean & Root for Nook Tablet 1.4.3
(here's the link so you know what the process was: http://raywaldo.com/2012/09/root-for-nook-tablet-1-4-3/ )
and I got as far as booting the NT from the SD card that contained CWM recovery on it, and it began the process. It then decided to just shut completely off after it seemed to be either almost finished or finished with the boot process. Either way, the problem now is I cannot turn it on. I have used every button press combo, as well as several attempts to boot off of recovery SD cards. I have tried connecting the NT to the computer via usb while holding down the power and home buttons, and all that jazz. No matter what I do, my NT will NOT turn on for ANYTHING. Although the battery seems to be fine, since after plugging in the power cord (after attempting to press buttons or whatever else) it turns orange for a few seconds to a few minutes (depending on how much I mess with it) and turns green. I am starting to think that any method that uses the SD card to boot into recovery or flash to stock or anything is simply not going to work, as my most recent attempt was to boot it into Ubuntu Recovery using Adam Outler's [UnBrick]TOTAL WIPE and reflash back to 1.4.0 via Ubuntu Recovery --Now Easier!!!! (here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 )
and after following the instructions for both Ubuntu AND windows, the card will not make the NT boot into recovery. Considering Adam Outler's method is supposed to completely set everything to 0, I am pretty sure that anything regarding booting from an SD card is NOT going to work.
Is there any way that I could connect the NT to the computer and fix it through that? If anyone has any MEANINGFUL and USEFUL tips regarding this dilemma, PLEASE help me out. I am aware of the possibility that my NT could be fried beyond repair, but at the same time I can't help but think that there's GOT to be a way I can fix it. I don't care about saving anything on there, or what ROM I flash it to, or anything like that. I just don't want to be a paperweight anymore. I would like to at least figure out why it won't turn on, if nothing else.
Like I said, I have already tried several methods regarding booting to recovery through the SD card, and none have worked. Again, NOTHING is making it turn on at all. Please help me!
I would try the repart.imgdecribed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 before attempting anything else. I think your trouble stems from TWRP, but either way, try the repart.img before you start messing with anything else.
I know you say it's impossible to boot from sd card, but I still think it's worth a try. Insert the card. then insert powered charging cable. If it still seems dead, hold power button for 10 seconds. Remove and reinsert powered cable.
The fact that the charging cable is green does not automatically means it's charged. It just means it's not taking any power, and that could be because of whatever makes it not turn on. I think it may not actually have been dead when you thought it was at first, and then it could have drained completely. It needs to get some juice, so try keeping the chargging cable inserted when experimenting with buttons.
Hello everyone ... I think I dun goofed, but perhaps someone knows something that I don't :\
So today I wanted to switch to a new Custom ROM... standard procedure I guess. Without doing anything, btw, apart from using my phone, I got several random reboots into bootloop today, especially while texting, which I didn't get at all, but didn't mind because they ceased after several times.
So I get home and get cracking ... backup my Contacts, try to make a NANDROID backup, which gets stuck while backing up /data ... which I didn't get, but unfortunately CWM didn't wanna react after this, so I had to hard reset, and lookie lookie, it rebooted into Android. Now, however, nothing works.
I put in the battery, the bootloop begins, not even a press of the Power Button is needed, I press the combination for Download Mode, actually SEE THE WARNING SCREEN, can't however proceed because the reboot begins immediately after, and CWM won't load either
Does this mean I'm pretty much f'd in the a?
EDIT: Welp, seems like removing the battery right when the loop starts makes it so that I have to press the power button again which makes me able to access both Android and CWM, I literally have no clue how this could have come.
Can someone please help?
i did something so totally stupid last night. i don't know why I did it. I must have been on a sugar high from all the candy, or something, but I made the stupid stupid stupid mistake of "rooting" my beautiful Ascend Mate 2 using Kingroot.
And now it won't shut down.
I started the shutdown process when I wen to bed last night and it was still doing the shutdown process when I got up this morning, and it won't shut down.
Can someone please help? I really need my phone to shutdown or to remove this, what I now know to be not very good, Kingroot rubbish.
Thanks.
Hold the power button for I believe 10 seconds and it should shut down, or possibly attempt to reboot. Do you know if it will boot or work normally afterwards?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
If I hold down the power button it reboots. I don't want it rebooting. I like to shut my phone down every night.
Any other options? Is there no way to remove Kingroot? I tried a bloatware remover app. It said it had uninstalled Kingroot but it is still showing on my phone and still works so I'm assuming it didn't remove it.
Would doing a factory reset work? I hate to have to do it but i will if necessary. Also, if I do a factory reset will it keep Android 5.1 or will it revert back to whatever Android was on the phone when I got it?
Thanks.
Even the Kingroot uninstaller won't uninstall this app.
I tried resetting the phone but all my apps (including Kingroot) are on my phone - even when I choose the option of setting it up as a new device.
I'm going to cry
So your device boots and works normally? I think you should just back up the apps/files you need onto your computer and then wipe the phone from recovery mode.

I tried doing a wipe data/factory reset using the power/volume up button combination and setting it as a new device but Kingroot was installed when it booted up after performing this procedure.. So i tried a second time. Same result. I tried several times to uninstall it using the apps own uninstaller. It won't uninstall.
I have managed to get it to a point where Kingroot is force-stopped and disabled but I'd like it removed.
I'd also like my phone to shut down properly.
I used to love this phone. And now I don't. All because of my own stupidity!
You're probably going to have to reflash the stock firmware for your phone to get Kingroot fully removed. This will clear out all your files so make sure you have everything you want backed up. The firmware files for your phone can be downloaded from the mirrors provided in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61682526&postcount=3 . They should contain a folder called dload with some files in it. Copy the dload folder to the root folder of of an SD card and put the card into your phone. Reboot into SD upgrade mode by holding Volume up + Volume down + Power buttons at the same time. You can let go of the Power button when your phone powers on.Now, just sit back and watch the installation progress as the device verifies and flashes the update. After that, your phone should reboot automatically. This will clear out anything you have on the phone itself and will flash the stock firmware. once it reboots you should be free of Kingroot. hope this helps.

Thank you everyone who tried to help and to robertbarber for the solution.
