It's a very special day today where I reveal an exciting new feature of the ASUS Transformer Prime. I've been doing loads of video about the Prime (as you may have seen on my other thread) as they've caught the interest of the boffins over in Seattle. Microsoft have very kindly sent me a pre-release version of Windows 8 that they've been working on as a proof of concept for Windows 8 on the tablet.
I've only had this for a couple of days but first impressions are it blows iOS and Android out of the water.
Check it out
Ah, April 1st. Love it... If you've only had it for a couple of days why does it say February 7 on the calendar?

April fools?
Actually I read somewere about the option of dualboot of Jelly Bean. So yes, it's possible!
2.08 Dots show before he even touches the screen. You really have nothing better to do?

Not officially I don't think. It is possible that Asus could release a similar tablet to the Transformer Prime with Windows 8 on it.
If that happens it is definitely possible that some talented Developers could get Windows 8 booting (hopefully Dual-Booting) on the Android Based Prime! As long as it is ARM based.
My assumption is Windows 8 ARM will come pre-installed on Windows 8 tablets. The OS will not be transferable to other tablets. And can not be purchased separately.
So if my assumption is true (I have no knowledge of how MS will distribute Windows 8 ARM), then there would be no legal way of putting Windows 8 on the Transformer Prime. Definitely can't make and distribute custom ROMs, that'd be piracy.
If I'm totally wrong, feel free to educate my foolish self.
Its quite possible they won't release a version installable on tablets easily. Its just the possibility of making it happen has many excited (including myself)

Earlier in April, Microsoft showed a Windows 8 build running on Tegra 2.
Ah, I'm so thrilled! I was about to drive 100+ miles after work today to pick up a Prime at the Wilkes Barre, PA Best Buy. Just so happened that a customer brough his 32GB Grey Transformer Prime into my store today to swap for an iPad for his wife! Brand new, unopened! So excited
Anyway, there is 1 32GB left in the Wilkes Barre, PA store if anyone is interested. SKU 4038674, price $499.99. Phone #: 570.819.0719 - no need to mention you saw this on XDA
viper! glad to see you on here. you officially now have (and hopefully will support) all three of my android devices: epic touch 4g, evo view 4g, and transformer prime!
Glad to see you here and hope to see some dev work coming from you once this tab gets off the ground a bit more.

Thanks all, sucks there is no root method yet but all in due time
So I received my Transformer Prime today and am having wifi issues (very poor connection strength). Also, I have a group of very bright pixels on the screen.
I know there is a new Transformer tablet in the works that has significantly better specs...so I'd be best to wait. In the meantime, I found a mint TF101 with docking keyboard for $350. Everything checks out and it seems like a great package for the price. This coupled with ICS arriving in two weeks for the TF101 makes it a reasonable decision to return the defective Prime and get this original TF101 w/keyboard.
Is this a good move? I've never owned the original Transformer and hope that it is plenty fast to play flash content. Anyone care to offer a POV on this decision?
I plan on getting the newer Transformer in Q2 when it's rumored to release.

I have both and the OG TP is pretty damn laggy even with a 1.65 OC.
That + the random reboots and freezes makes in a no go for me.
I did it and am happy with my decision. Wifi is crazy strong and the device is plenty fast.
Wake me up when the new Transformer is released. The Prime isn't ready for prime time IMO.

Well the latest possible release date has come and gone. Now they are saying July 5th which is well after the new shared plans go live. I have to upgrade before then, so looks like I am getting nexus or a rezound.
I wonder if I can then return it and exchange for the Inc 4g.

Thanks demandarin.. do you think there will be a time this year that nexus 7 will have a rear camera? The price of nexus s so tempting... thanks again...

I would go with Samsung and their Note tablet if you can wait they seem to have their products running pretty good (Galaxy S3) with their hardware and software, and they have good development here for their devices. I wish the Samsung Note Tablet with their CPU and hardware was out when I was deciding what to spend my $650 on.
I would wait before purchasing an Asus tablet again and see if they can fix their I/O performance problems if I were you. The Prime, Nexus 7, TF700, yeah they look nice but looks can be very deceiving as we know (Example= Prime).
IF Asus ever gets the I/O problems fixed then the TF700 or the Nexus 7 could be good choices. I wouldn't buy anything from Asus (Tablets) until you see if they can fix their current issues because if they cant fix the Primes performance they wont fix the TF700 of Nexus 7.
As an owner of the Prime I feel we were basically beta testers for the TF700. I refuse to recommend any Asus tablets after being used as a beta tester they got me once but not going to happen again. The bad part is I had to pay $650 to be beta tester!
Tablets are suppose to be a fun enjoyable experience not as frustrating as its been with the prime, we keep hearing they got an update coming out that's going to fix all the issues, but every time we get an update it does not deliver!

I doubt it. the rear camera was cut out to save on costs. Even without rear camera, its a great deal.
There is a slight chance that down the road, once manufacturing costs drop for this device, they "Might" release a revised version with rear cam. I doubt it though. never say never though

I would wait to see what Samsung is bringing next. If Samsung's next top tier tab comes with a Exynos 5250 it will be far superior to any Tegra powered device. But for $200 a Nexus 7 would be a great buy even if you end iPhone getting a 10" down the road. I bought a GTab 2 7" and think I like the size better than 10".

Yeah, thats what i thought about sizes. 7 is much easier for me. I can use it at almost places im in. I commute everyday by van, and cant get my prime out from my bag, and when taking pics, ridiculous, it's huge. But anyway, its still is useful inside my office....
